Did you know that doing Gua Sha on your face and neck area not only promotes better circulation and flow of your lymphatics and blood and acts as a natural face lift but it ALSO reduces your FIGHT or FLIGHT. If your sympathetic nervous system (SNS) is on overdrive this will result in low vagal tone. Over time you'll be creating a maladaptive response where your SNS stays up and your parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) stays low. Most people are in that state all. the. time!!! By increasing the vagal tone, you increase the signal of the nerve which will in turn increase your PNS activity and decrease your SNS activity. Your vagus nerve (Cranial Nerve 10) innervates so many important areas of your body: the throat, lungs 🫁, heart🫀, spleen, liver, stomach, kidneys & small intestines. Therefore by stimulating the face, neck and clavicle region will stimulate the vagus nerve which in turn will increase your rest and digest system as well as optimize the function of the organs listed above. In neck region you have other cranial nerves (CN IX glossopharyngeal, X vagus, XI accessory) that are homologous. Meaning, by stimulating one, it will carry over to the others. In the face you have CN XII hypoglossal & VII facial. They both have an interconnectedness with the vagus nerve. Long story short, manual techniques, massages, acupuncture, pressure points to the face & neck region have a DIRECT & QUICK improvement on the nervous system!
