Something interesting I have learned from working out at a gym is that I must be stronger than I look. I can't believe how often I see men who look a lot younger than me and a lot stronger than me who don't lift nearly as much as me. I am amazed when I see these men using 30-50% less weight on a lift than I do, and looking like they are straining to lift it. I guess 25 years of working out has gotten me somewhere, even if I haven't gained a lot of size. I guess size doesn't equal strength.
Of course there is always the guy who's built like a tank and lifts more than I can imagine ever lifting. When this happens I just walk over to the pullup station which is next to the bench press station, and while he is lifting a huge amount of weight I do a set of 10-15 pullups, something those guys could never do.
