Smith Machines

I want to join a local gym but it only has a smith machine. If I used this for squat, deadlift, bench (DB press more often) would my max still go up in all of these workouts when I used a normal squat machine and other equipments?

Glute Question

I was told by a physical therapist that I have an anterior pelvic tilt so I tried adding a Barbell Hip Thrust to my workout routine. The exercise can be seen here: It says this is a glute exercise and the other muscles...

Breaking through a Plateau on a few lifts

Maybe I'm speaking prematurely, but I feel like I shouldn't be having this problem yet. Currently on a slow bulk at 3,500 calories. I haven't really seen much weight gain the past 2 weeks (in fact might have lost some/staying the same/recomping I have no idea what the F*ck is going on with my body...

Neck Harness Help?

Got my neck harness today. I started off safe with 5 lbs and did 3 sets of about 40-50-40. Is this right? Should I aim for lower reps and heavier weight? Should I move the weight up to 7.5 pounds or go straight to 10?

Let's argue about close grip bench press form

This is one where it just seems like no one can agree on how to do them, and I seriously have no idea who's right and who's wrong. Hands over shoulders or thumbs 6-8" apart for grip width? elbows in or elbows out? touch the bar high on your chest or low on your chest at the bottom? ...

1,000 push ups a day

I decided I wanted to set a goal in order to do 1,000 push ups in a day, not all at one time of course. I plan on starting at 20 push ups, 5 times a day for a week. Then each week at +20 push ups each time. So week 2 I'd do 40 push ups 5 times. Week 3 I'd do 80 push ups each time. By week 10 I'd be...

Hi guys, I started Starting Strength a few months ago and have seen good progress in all my main exercises. In this video I'm deadlifting 140 at my campus gym and would like to get some feedback on how I can improve my form. I'm obviously a beginner, so I would greatly appreciate any advice...

Videos - What I'm Calling my "Peak Contraction" Series : D

So I was feeling very weak doing traditional lifts this week, and kind of made up these tweaks. I'm sure it's been done at some point before, because most everything has, but I've never seen it and was feeling creative today :D The point of these movements is a small range of motion, that...

Getting dumbbells into position for pressing

In the past I have mostly used barbells for my pressing exercises. I have been using dumbbells more lately for chest. I have been getting stronger, going north of the 100 pounders for flat bench and close to that for incline. Nothing super impressive, but not bad for me. Anyway, I have found...

I've recently started working out gain and am scared of one thing, my shoulders. I used to work out religiously then dislocated my shoulder multiple times. What's Your Warmup Routine; Does It Change Depending on Specific Days?

Hi guys, I'm curious as to what all of your warmup routines consist of on your workout days? I'm still trying to get the fundamentals down so I don't feel like I'm doing needless exercises and I want my warmups to make the most out of me. Also do your warmups change depending on what days you work...

Using a dip machine one arm at a time?

I injured my rotator cuff a few months back and I still think dips are an excellent tricep mass builder and strengthening exercise. I can't perform bodyweight dips but my gym does have two dip machines. One of them is a hammer strength plate-loaded machine that has a huge load capacity but it...

Going to failure with 2sets?

Hi guys! This is just a theoretical question really! If somebody was working they're full body 3x a week and therefore volume was low! Maybe 2 work sets per exercise. Given that only 2 sets are being performed, Should they be done to failure in order for it to be necessary to consistently progress?...

Overhead press and shoulder subluxation

So I have been doing a lot of research on the topic of shoulder subluxation and possible substitute exercises for overhead press. I am aware that there is no perfect alternative to the overhead press because of its compound nature. I would like to know what combination of exercises can be done in...

Mehdi doesn't give detail on this one specific area, If I only have one warmup set between first warmup set and working weight, how many reps should I do? He says to do 2x5 with bar then 1x5 upping the weight 25-45 lbs until the last two warmup sets in which you do 1x3 then 1x2. What should I...

Most Badass Lift

I've saw a video over a year ago of a guy doing a hang clean, into a front squat then popping the bar up and catching it with one arm (in the center of the barbell) overhead. Anyone know the name of this lift? I can no longer find the video.

how many exercises

How many exercises should you do per muscle group? I've only been working out for 4\5 months and do each body part once a week. I do compound movements at the beginning of workouts and usually do about 3 more exercises, looking to build mass, thanks.

You can kinda see it on my DP, my right oblique is sticking out more then my left. I'm 4 weeks into my cut, and dropped 12 pounds ( still look chubby tho at 186). I have noticed that my right obliuqe is pointing out causing a deep curve on my right side combined with my right lat as oppose to my...
