Should there be a slight bend in elbows while doing lateral shoulder raises?

Every demonstration of proper form I find on the internet is 50/50 on this. I keep a slight bend at the elbows so as to not lock them in, because I feel a "not-right" pain in my rotator cuffs keeping them completely straight but the slight angle keeps the tension in my shoulders without the pain....
