Sticky Thread Sticky: Training Program Basics

It is said that "working out" is when one just goes to the gym and does exercises whereas "training" is what one does when they are on a program designed to specifically progress them. If you are reading this, you are interested in finding a program that will progress you. Is This Training...

Sticky Thread Sticky: Daily Workout - Challenges and Victories

In light of the extreme focus this board has in regards to the 'body beautiful' (and the frustration that results in people not 'getting results fast enough'), I thought I would create a sticky that changed the focus a little.... This is a thread for posters to use to recognise 'every day'...

500 lb. club

How many of you ladies would be able to be part of the 500lb. club? You've probably heard of 1000lb clubs at gyms, a group of guys primarily that can lift 1,000lbs from a combination of 3 exercises: Deadlift, bench press, and squat. I was looking for females at my gym that would be part of the...

How do I *avoid* a wide upper back?

After a long term shoulder injury, I have gradually started training my back at home. I have a few good sets of dumbells, an exercise ball and a few kettlebells but no bench. I'm pretty sure I've developed a bit of definition recently, but I also think my already wide upper back is getting...

Question What's the deal? Wide grip, shoulder width grip or narrow grip?

I am talking about lat pull downs, I see so any different articles with one saying wide grip works the lats more, then one saying narrow grip works them more. This week I decided to try with my hands shoulder width apart and felt it in my lats much more than when I would grip the bar not too wide...

Tricep rant most recent of several)

So I hate my triceps. I recently bulked up over 8 months and am now on a mini-cut (just a couple pounds for bikini season). My arms have bulked up a little, and overall look better. But I have tricep jiggle (still) and now that I"ve gained some weight it seems worse. The question is, how...

Question Thoughts on Erin Stern's Elite Body 4-Week Program?

Looking at potentially doing Erin Stern's or Kris Gethin's program...thoughts on either? I've heard a lot more about Kris Gethin's (all positive) than Erin Stern, but just exploring options. Thanks in advance!

Question Deadlifts

I feel stupid asking this question, but am I doing something incorrect here? I'm not feeling much burn *at all* anywhere but my lower erectors. I know I used to feel my DLs in my hams, but I had a way too long layoff, so maybe I'm messing it up now or something? My plan has me doing DLs after...

What's everyone's training look like?

Just curious about how everyone is training. Like if you are doing a split training, or total body training. Or if you are following a specific type of program.

I have uneven glutes/shoulders and need advice!!

I'm 5'7, 133 lbs, and I'm guessing around 22-25% bf (not sure though). I've been lifting weights 3x per week for 5-ish months, and my main focus has been on my glutes and legs. I quickly noticed that I have some sort of imbalance going on in my glutes, as I realized I could not feel my right glute...

Cool What's your opinion on the crossfit craze?

All it's hyped up to be? There's a crossfit gym near me that is offering a 3 day trial but I have not the slightest bit interest. I like good old fashion weightlifting. But I must say, crossfit people are jacked up.

Glutes

Hi, I work out my glutes using weights, doing exercises such as side lunges and lunges. When I am working out, my glutes burn, due to the exercise and stretching of them, however when I'm finished my workout, my glutes don't hurt anymore, like when I'm walking around for example. But as soon...

I'm a 28 year old female, 5'4" 125lb (unfortunately can't post pics due to new account). I've been regularly working out for about 2 years (starting out 50lbs heavier) and am thinking of switching to a more defined program. For the past 2 years I've been doing crossfit, and until recently had not...

Fun cardio?

I hate cardio. I usually listen to music and run on the treadmill but I really hate it. If it's warm I will take my dog for a run outside and that's not so bad. Unfortunately it's still snowing where I live. So does anyone have any ideas for cardio that's more fun than the treadmill?

Newbie - Kind of - need help and direction

So, I'm not new to the whole dieting/weight loss/youI crap, been a pro at that for years. Almost two years ago I said enough was enough and became serious about making a lifestyle change. I went from 240 (by all means, not my highest weight) to hovering between 173-178. I did this weight loss with...

Maybe trying first bulk

I'm thinking about bulking, and as many I'm a little nervous about that. My BF is about 20%, want it lower but I'm afraid if I cut I'll look too skinny. I've made some clear leg muscle gains within the past year or so by eating a normal amount of calories, just recently have been targeting my abs...

? About squats...

I wanted to run strong lifts 5x5, but I have problems with squats. Whenever I put the bar on my back with any weight, I feel like it's compressing my spine & it's uncomfortable. To the point that I can't add weight, even though my legs could handle it. So I squat with a bar in front or with a...

Newbie - not sure if I'm getting the right advice at the gym?

Hi all A couple of newbie questions… Had a very basic introductory gym programme put together in December after a few months of running, and in March went back and asked for a more strength orientated plan. I do this plan 3/4x per week and run or do HIIT on a treadmill a couple of times a...
