Sticky Thread Sticky: Training Program Basics

It is said that "working out" is when one just goes to the gym and does exercises whereas "training" is what one does when they are on a program designed to specifically progress them. If you are reading this, you are interested in finding a program that will progress you. Is This Training...

Sticky Thread Sticky: Daily Workout - Challenges and Victories

In light of the extreme focus this board has in regards to the 'body beautiful' (and the frustration that results in people not 'getting results fast enough'), I thought I would create a sticky that changed the focus a little.... This is a thread for posters to use to recognise 'every day'...

workouts - how important to write them down?

I've always kept a spiral notebook with me during workouts, jotting everything down from sets/reps, to how I was feeling, if something caused pain, to whether a particular lift needed extra work... I've always felt like I *had* to write it down, otherwise how would I make progress? But I wonder...

Deadlift form check

This is the first time I'm doing deadlifts in a few weeks (took some time off to heal back). I'm trying sumo. I think my form is off...a lot. I'll try to get another angle in a few days, and sorry for the awkward music my gym plays! KZnmNl1ySqE

can you develop decent quad mass with only leg ext/leg curl?

I hate to even ask, but I'm still struggling with SI joint pain, to the point that squats, deadlifts, lunges, and full ROM leg press are out of the question. It could be months before I can do any of those lifts... I don't have too many options left for working my quads, that eliminates any low...

Bulking help (trying to get through it with my sanity)

I've been bulking for about 3 months now and, because of a lot of setbacks with personal issues and college, I haven't made as much progress as I would have liked. I'm still continuing to bulk, but am struggling with feeling good about myself. I've put on a few pounds; about a 1:3 muscle-to-fat...

I'd like your feedback on this workout.

I've started this program after finishing Jim Stoppani's Beginner to Advanced. The workout by Stoppani had high volume and I had great results. I'm liking this program but I wondering if I can still get results since it seems a...

Sumo vs Standard Deadlift

I have been having issues with doing a standard deadlift because I am scared of blowing out my back (I suffered from 3 herniated discs about 6 yrs ago). I feel that as the weight gets heavier I pull more with my back. I had someone suggest doing sumo deadlifts and for whatever reason it seems more...

Can't add more weight-what are my options?

Right now, I work out at home with 100lb barbell set. I've reached the max with my squats and deadlifts and we won't be getting an upgrade for about another month. Given that going to the gym is not an option for me, what should I be doing to continue my strength gains? Currently I am able to do...

Thumbs down One Body Part per day - ??! Doesn't seem to be the best use of time

So I recently have this trainer with a bodybuilding background and because I'm just getting back into things it was told to me to just do one body part per day for 5 days and include cardio as well. which is fine but seems to be not the best use of time given that it only takes me about 30 mins to...

Is this reversible with training?

My knees go in - it's not my favorite attribute. I've had it my whole life and my boyfriend makes fun of me for it (in a nice way), but it really bothers me sometimes. I'm a runner and don't do a ton of weight lifting- just getting in to it. It's pretty clear that the inside of my leg has...

anyone have an in-office or at-work mini gym?

I have a desk job as a bookkeeper and my hours just went from around 22 per week up to 30. I still get my regular workout in, but I would like to come up with a few pieces of equipment I can keep in my office to do mini-workouts during the day. I definitely feel like the longer time at my desk...

Lower body tweaks needed?

I have questions about my lower body progress. I'm only 5-6 months into my training so it may be just that I don't have enough time invested yet. Also, I started bulking a couple of months ago and know that I've added some water weight and fat to my lower body which is the area that already loves...

What Does the Amount of Weight Represent?

Just something I was thinking about yesterday... What does lifting a heavier weight mean? Does lifting heavy directly reflect a person's strength? Does it only reflect muscle size? Is it a result of weight moved compared to body weight carried? Do muscles have to be bigger to lift heavier? Or...

Coming back after serious illness
