Lifting shoes

Hi, I'm on the lookout for some shoes for weight training. I think I would like one of those "crossfitter type" shoes like Nike Metcon or Reebok Nano. I'm not interested in heeled lifting shoes or Chuck Taylors. The problem is, I have very narrow feet - do you know of a good alternative to the...

Building muscle while breastfeeding

Hi! I'm currently nursing my one and a half year old son and I've finally gotten to a good weight where I can start building some muscle. Does anyone have any idea what supplements I can take to do this? If not supplements, what would be the most realistic way of achieving this? I'm trying to gain...

Smile I can front squat but can't back squat.

Hi there, My legs have always been the weakest part of my body which is weird! About 8 months ago I started to focus on my legs training them twice a week. However I can't even squat the bar by itself without my upper body leaning too much forward. I tried the front squat and that was no...

Where do you hold fat?

Just a mini gripe.. my shoulders and chest keep getting leaner, but my abs and upper thighs have stalled. I guess it's just how my body naturally carries fat, but I want leaner abs, not more veins on my shoulders and striations on my chest! Anyone else want to complain with me so I'm not alone?...

Leg Presses - what weight do you do?

I've recently just started going to the gym. Did some strength training for thighs and butt today and found that I quite like the 'leg press' machine. Just wondering if you use it and if so, what weight do you do it on and how many reps/sets before you get tired?

10 Ways You're Consuming More Calories Than You Think

This hit home for me - mostly because I used to be one of those people who were eating 1200 calories a day and couldn't lose weight. At that time, I didn't track vegetables or condiments, and I eyeballed everything. For all of you who think you are stalled at a low calorie intake... Read it, learn...

Cool Girls-What is the Stupidest thing anyone has told you about lifting?

I was told this past weekend by my Aunt who is an RN (from back in the day, mind you. No education in over 20 years), that I should be careful lifting heavy weights or I could prolapse my uterus.

Guys Staring at the Gym..How do you take it?

First let me say there's a difference between staring, and noticing. For example, I never stare at women at the gym when they're stretching/exercising, mainly because I don't want to be seen as a weirdo or pervert or anything like that, but I'm sorry, when a woman with a nice body comes in with a...

What are yours floor press (or bench press) : squat ratios?

I've noticed my FP:SQ ratio is 1. I always thought legs should be stronger than the arms and the ratio maybe more like 0,5 or 0,75? I don't have a bench at home, so I do floor presses instead. Post your ratios and add a comment of which exercises (ex. BP/SQ or FP/SQ).

Eating too little or too much? Or just impatient?

I am currently trying to lose the weight I gained during pregnancy while also trying to increase my fitness. I work out 5 to 6 days a week (3 to 4 days a week of weight training) along with a few cardio sessions (mostly outdoor mountain biking for enjoyment but it is a very high calorie burn). I...

Carb Cycling Question

I am currently cutting on 1700 cals (145g Protein, 145g Carbs, 60g Fat). It was going well for awhile, losing about 1.3 lbs per week..... and then I just got ravenous hunger and succumbed. :-/ I would be able to stick to my macros for a few days and then go way over. Since I noticed this pattern...

As some of you know, I've lately switched my focus from running/swimming (triathlon stuff) to lifting. I love it--I feel so much more comfortable in my skin and more satisfied with my energy and strength day-to-day, and my entire friend group can see it and is impressed (especially when I do...
