Big biceps and rack position

I've heard that oly lifters never do curls because big biceps would prevent them being able to properly rack a clean. I can't see how someone's biceps could possible interfere with the rack position unless they have 20 inch+ arms. I could understand if people said curls are useless/a waste of...

Smile Building a foundation to start olympic lifts. Do's and Don'ts

What's up guys, I'm planning to eventually start olympic lifting once my strength levels are adequate and I am flexible enough. Though I want to start training a bit more specific in my commercial gym. What are some things I could do other than focusing on: - Squats (front, high bar...

Oly program feedback- shoulder and knee pain :(

Long time lurker. Need some advice from the Oly brahs here. I joined up with a Crossfit gym earlier this year, picked up Oly lifting for about 3 months now. The trainer at the gym provides the program and its been alright so far however the training program seems to push 1rep maxes nearly every...

What's up with Pendlay forum?

Does anyone know what's going on with the Pendlay forum? I haven't been able to get on since yesterday. There was a huge debacle Friday night regarding MDUSA hiring Travis Mash as a coach and Brad Hess of MDUSA not wanting to explain why they hired him (as is his right, IMHO). However, it seems...

Knee Pain

Hi everyone, For the last 6 weeks, I've been experiencing pain above my knee caps and sometimes pain that feels as if it is coming from the center of my right knee. Additionally, there's been some soreness/pain in the joints of my left ankle, and now I'm starting to develop what almost feels...

Wish I could find these Adidas in 8.5! Best ones I've ever had

These Adidas weightlifting shoes are the best I've ever had...wood heel, solid. They still have life in them, and gosh, I must have paid $200 for them back in 2003 or so...have searched high and low to find them, no luck. I'm sure the new Adistars rock..

Power Clean Form Check

Video: *****:// (add http) Triple at 185lbs. I'm doing these as part of a general strength program, anything stand out that I should work on? I'm not exactly going for perfection (don't plan on competing), just making sure there aren't any major flaws. To me, it looks...

Effect of "bulking" on weightlifting

What are your experiences on adding weight while training? Is there ever a reduction in speed or explosiveness, or does it just help you set new PRs? (Obviously I'm talking about adding a controlled amount of weight, not a see-food type thing)

Bumper Plate suggestions?

Wanting to build a home gym. I have decided on the new Rogue 2.0 Bar that is about to be released. Also, kind of up in the air on the Squat Rack. Leaning towards Rogue S-2 but I keep seeing this AmStaff Fitness chinese made copies for cheap, sold in Canada. Main thing I cannot choose are...

Power clean form check

I power cleaned for the first time today, I need some feedback on my form. They were pretty light, as I only caught them in a quarter squat, but I'm not sure wether or not my form was even remotely close to ok. *****://

Vertically challenged garage gym flooring question

So finally got around to setting up my garage gym and need to figure out the flooring. Most I've read say to not drop bumpers on concrete, what I've found so far below (best to worst): 1. build a platform 2. plywood covered by stall mats 3. stall mats on concrete 4. cheap rubber flooring from...

Olympic squat form help

Hey guys. I recently started olympic weightlifting, and have been training with a coach (only once per week now, will be more frequent soon). I am running starting strength right now to get my squat up, but my squat has the ``buttwink``. I am 6`1 with long femurs, but pretty flexible nonetheless....

How to fix huge lean on snatch bottom?

I recently started learning the snatch and I've been video recording myself to check how I'm doing. I noticed I have a very big lean forward at the bottom of the snatch/catch and it is aggravated with weights. If I squat with just a wooden stick the lean is not that exaggerated. I foam roll and...

Max clean attempt worth watching

So about a month and a half ago, as high school was coming to an end, I wanted to try a 295lb clean because that's what I made my goal at the very beginning of the year. (I was at 245 then) My best before this attempt was 280. I thought any lifter would enjoy watching this video because of the...

Clean and front squat form check

Beginner checking in. I've been practicing the technique for clean/jerk/front squat for the past few days with a wooden stick only. Question Form problem methinks - any tips?

I'm fairly new to Oly lifting (only past 6 months) though I competed in power lifting 20+ years ago and have maintained performing those pwr lifts over all 20+ years since at much lighter weights. Unfortunately I don't have access to a lifting coach so I've been teaching myself from the internet....

new guy question with the power clean

I wanted to go back to OLY lifting and today was the first day and to see my numbers I maxed on the C&J, I got 195 the clean was easy but the jerk needs some help. I just went for a straight max on the clean and got 225. For a C&J to count in competition, do you have to squat? I got the clean...

Weightlifting Gym in Long Island

Hi, I set up a weightlifting gym in Holbrook, on Long Island. I'm 20, so not a coach or anything, but I have a pendlay bearing bar, and bumper plates. I would like to try to get a gym of dedicated olympic lifters. It's hard to find places out in Long Island though. I invite anyone interested to...
