Starting to do olympic weightlifting

I switched to a crossfit gym because my gym kicked me out for doing noisy deadlifts. So I was in the crossfit gym yesterday and a lot of people approach me because they recommend me to do some olympic weightlifting because they saw me lifting heavy on squats and deadlifts. and I said that I'll...

World Record Hang Clean/Power Clean?

I was just wondering if anyone new of the world record in just the Hang Clean or Power Clean? I would think it would be somewhere in the neighborhood of 500 lbs. In college, I Hang Cleaned 365x1 at 230 lbs which I think it pretty solid but I know that is probably warm-up weight for some...

I just want to Lift

Hi everyone, I was active on here over a year ago but I quit Olympic Lifting when all the injuries started presenting itself. It started with mid back pain, then patella tendonitis, shoulder impingement, and towards the end I learned I had two knee caps in my right knee... Well one large knee...

High bar squat and pushing the knees out question

How far should the knees be pushed out aka how open should the hips be? It seems like half the sources say to really shove the knees out while the other half says to have the knees only out a little bit aka more forward. Thoughts on this? I usually squat with knees and toes only slightly open,...

Should I compete?

I do CrossFit... Let's get that out of the way. Haha. But, I thoroughly enjoy WL. My bodyweight at the moment is 78-80kg not 100% sure and my lifts are 125 C&J (training... Not sure what it would be in comp) 105kg Snatch (did this in a CrossFit comp without any Oly shoes.)

squat first and lift later or the other way around?

i m comfused it is better to have squat as first excersise, before the oly lifts? or do the lifts and left squat for the end? taking for granted that you lift more kg's on squat than the oly lifts

Question Issues with Snatch technique - bar too heavy

Heyo, I'm just learning Snatch technique and what not but the issue is that the olympic bar is too heavy for me to snatch and get it any further than chest/collarbone height. The practice bars they have are too light and I have no issue getting underneath those. I'm taking a powerlifting/oly...

High Bar squat stance (long femurs)

Hello I am 185 cm tall. People say my legs are longer than my trunk. I feel my femurs are long. I can post numbers/measurements and or pictures if this is necessary. For me my squat stance improved when I narrowed my stance. And also when I rotated my toes less outwards. Not straight forward...

COMPETITIVE weightlifter, I need your input !

I'm new to the competition. Been doing OW srsly for 1 year. I compete in the 77kg category. I did 197 kg total in my competition today. It sucked. I needed 216 kg total to gain access to state level competition. Not even close... In 10 weeks, I will need a 222kg total. I can't see how I can...

Should I focus on strength more?

I train for Olympic weightlifting, though not at a competitive level of any sort. Currently the way my workout is set up is that I always start off with an Olympic lift(s) and then move on to strength exercises later on. Hence I'm always somewhat fatigued when it gets to squats as they're the...

Is set up posture important? *video*

I'm fuking mad right now bc my knee has really been bothering me and so is my lower back now. Look at this vid, just doing power snatches for triples. My set up posture looks disgusting but I get into good position before the lift. Opinions please. Thanks mAjvBAbCM68

Thinking about putting a gym in my garage

Hard to find a decent gym where I live that isn't packed. Plus I can hardly snatch where I'm at now as the grip is worn off on all of the barbells (and I'm not going to a gay crossfit gym :)). Getting fed up with the situation and am considering putting a gym in my garage. I'd build a platform,...

snatch going up, C&J suffering

Hey guys only been oly lifting for a year and been battling knee issues but I started the catalyst athletics 8 week general program. Finishing week two and my snatch has gone from 155 (when I was 15lbs heaver) to 170 but my c&j has gone from 235 (when I was 15lbs heavier) to missing 225 today. Is...

Help with legs spreading too far on cleans

Hey everyone, When I do the little jump during a clean my feet go out farther than shoulder width apart. I find that instead of squatting under the bar to catch it I do a semi squat and spread my legs. Any advice on how I should go about fixing this? Thanks, Seb

What tights/half-tights do you use?

I've been training in gym shorts for the past few months and noticed that some are starting to rip at the thighs from all the cleans I'm doing. I've been doing a lot of triples, and noticed that i hear a tearing noise sometimes when I catch the bar at the thighs on the way down. Also, when I squat...

Getting into olympic lifting (HELP)

Hi guys! I have been training on and off for some time, but I am on my longest lifting stint now, been steady at it for 4 months, mostly doing powerlifting style training. I want to get into olympic lifting, but there is nowhere to do it in my town. There is a club for it, but they don't have...

Form Check and Advice Needed

Basically I'm looking for any advice on my Power Snatch and Power Clean and Jerk, and how I can improve them. I would say I have some reasonable experience with powerlifting style training and the "big 3," but I'm pretty new to oly lifting, I've only done sub-par power cleans for about 6 months....

Addicted to Power Cleans

So I just learned hang cleans a little bit ago, and I worked my way up so now I can do a full on muscle clean from the floor. These are my new favorite lift! Swinging all that weight up just feels so awesome. It's such an athletic lift. Soon I'll be doing them heavy with the squat. And then I'll...

Power clean programming

Most suggested routines I see have the clean and snatch programmed in. If I wanted to take the snatch out would u increase clean volume? If so how?
