Do mass gainer calories make you fatter than normal calories?

The reason I'm posting this is I want to understand why mass gainers are so bad. I know a calorie is a calorie, but why does everyone seem to be so against mass gainers for bulking? I have the pro gainer from optimum nutrition and the macros seem awesome as a meal replacement (650 calories 60 grams...

Chicken breast, weigh cooked or raw for calories?

Ok, I know it might not be all that much but I would like to get as close to figuring out my exact calories. I've been to all the sites and I seem to get conflicting info. I make simple boneless skinless chicken breast. Just cut up, shot of pam in a pan and cook. The total cals i get when i...

Edible Raw Cookie Dough: Protein Style

Ive been working on this recipe for awhile now and due to the PMs I get about it I figured I would share. It really helps with the sweet tooth craving, is fairly straightforward, and can be as "clean" or "dirty" as you like it. I dont take full credit for this. If you google something along the...

Do you recommend calorie counters by heart rate? Or are they inaccurate?

I'm thinking of getting the one that comes with a strap to put around your chest. It doesn't count footsteps. I'm thinking that if it's pretty accurate, it might be a really helpful tool for me. If not....well, I don't want to waste money. My activities vary so greatly by day that it's hard for...

What foods tend to give you a bloated look?

I hear carbs will do it as they bind to water, is that true? I've been taking my green smoothies late in the day (not for this reason) and may keep them there if so. How about fats?

Eating dinner before going to sleep - issues?

I have been told to not eat dinner before going to sleep because digestion of food just eaten will disrupt sleep quality. Is there any study to back it up? I have personally eaten before getting into bed and I am not noticing any significant change in sleep quality. I wake up the next day feeling...

Does a high fat diet during a bulk make transitioning to a cut easier?

While bulking I ate about 380g carbs. My first week of cutting felt like someone pulled out my power cord, it was tough. No energy, headaches, etc. To be fair I was cutting at -1k (still am in week 3, now I feel fine though). In the future I'm thinking of starting the next bulk by raising fats...

Off Days

I am new to the gym. I am 18 yrs, 5'10" and 168lbs. So I am not super skinny. I am a decent mix of fat and muscle, but more fat than I would prefer. My question is on Wednesdays and Sundays, what should I be doing as far as Protein shakes and smoothies go. I have my muscle milk on days when I...

Transitioning to bulk from a cut

So I've been cutting for near 15 weeks or so now (slowly, but surely) as sort of a practice prep in the event that I ever get an itch to compete. Plus I just wanted to see what it took, as this has been my first legitimate attempt at cutting. Anyways, I'm about to head home for the holiday break in...

Protein per pound?! Too vague!

We've all heard that we should consume between .7 grams and 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight. Here's my question: Is that per pound of our ACTUAL weight? Per pound of our DESIRED weight? Per pound of our current LEAN body weight? I'm asking because I'm a 35 year old male, 5'11, 255...
