So I am 1 month into my pre-contest diet and am having excruitating muscle soreness. Is this due to LA build up? Is there anything I can take to tone it down?

Did you start training different for your contest prep? Some people tend to start lifting with higher reps/lighter weight (which I do not agree with)... if so, this will tend to fatigue your muscles in a different way and build up latic acid more.
Did you also drop your sodium levels? Again some people tend to do that during a contest prep (again, something I strongly disagree with). With lower sodium levels you're not lubricating your joints with the water you retain with sodium so everything tends to be drier.
