hey bro. thanks for the reps on my journal.

just wanted to commend you for losing so much weight and maintaining strength. it's a long road doing it this way, but it's definitly worth it. i've managed to go down from 175 to 160 while mainting/gaining a bit of strength. unfortunatly it's taken me 8 months and i still have a bit to go. Anyway, i'm interested in your diet macros, whats your p/c/f intake like? Also, have you noticed fat loss in certain areas where others seem to be lagging in fatloss? I know for me, i lost chest fat first, and then it seemed like i lost weight in my ass, than love handles/ midsection. can't wait till this arm fat goes though, really want some freakin' arm seperation!

no problem man, thanks for stopping by here.

Ok, I shoot for around 2300-2650 calories a day. Usually higher calories for the days that I lift heavy and lower for those days that i don't.

usually I shoot for a 40-40-20 breakdown, however there are some days when I do a 50-30-20 breakdown; again depending on the workout schedule.

As for the fat loss, the fat seems to be coming off everywhere at the same time. At least that's what my measurements show. i here you on the arm seperation...

Now that the weather is breaking, besides my bike riding, I may head over to this one park. Plenty of dune climbs allowed there. Pretty steep inclines on some trails.

I feel for you Jae...whenI lived in Chicago there was nothing but concrete & asphalt. Now, I live in an area with sand dune hills. Although...my wife is considering changing positions & I don't know which way we may be headed.

I've always wanted to go to pismo beach and go 4 wheeling on "the dunes" I hear tons of people talk about it, it sounds like a great amount of fun.

Are they basically sand? Or a harder dirt surface? I would imagine incline sand running would allow me to last about a 1/10 of a mile before I collapsed lol.

Have a nice off day Quick!

lol, was it one of those buckles where your knee locks back up when it should have went forward? I love those! Back in college when someone would trip or on leg days when we would stumble home from the gym and a buddy or I would trip up someone would always yell "sniper!" it always created a laugh.

Grats on maxing out the calf machine, now you have colorful drop sets and other things to try and figure out what to do with the weight you do have available :)

thanks for stopping by man! I add those last sets with either drop sets or less weight to make sure I have a nice pump. My thought is more blood in the muscle will equal more muscle growth. When I lift my heaviest set my muscles are tired but sometimes not full of blood. When you are seeing more sets added to the end, it's because I felt I could force more blood into the muscle.

Just keep moving. Sitting is the worst for them. On one of our recent trips to Chicago, I did legs on Thurs (as usual), and on Friday afternoon we set out for my mom's house. Four plus hours later we got to my mom's and it was sooo painful getting out of the car. It was agony to stand up straight, but I had to do so and move quickly because it was raining. Ouch!

okay leg day today. LOL. I messed up I was doing plate loaded squat and had already finished my warmup and was getting ready for my "big" lift. Last week I did 750*3, and I really really wanted to improve by one rep. As I loaded the plates, all I was thinking was 750*4, 750*4, 750*4. So I loaded up sat down and banged out 4 good reps. When I looked down at the weight I realized I had added too much weight!! I had banged out 770*4! I'll take it!

So here it is...

plate loaded squat
450*8, 770*4, 630*6, 540*8, 450*6, 270*8

hack squat machine
90*8, 240*2, 230*3, 180*6, 90*6 (drop set, kinda :p )

hamstring curls
90*8, 145*6, 90*8, 45*8

single leg extensions
45*8, 65*6, 45*8

standing calf raises (i managed to slide a 10 on each side :) )
360*10, 450*10, 470*10, 360*10, 270*10

and my pieces of rubber are done! OWWWW!!!

As I was leaving I looked over at the cardio area; I can't even imagine trying to do anything over there! My rubber legs are hurting something fierce....

Very nice workout Quick, you really get deep into your damn legs with all of that weight. Scott is right, the DOMs the next day after doing cardio aren't nearly as bad. My legs are hurting, but they would normally be KILLING me since I haven't done them for 2 weeks.

Sort of the reverse to short term pleasure long term pain. Short term pain (cardio) long term pleasure (less DOMS) :)

Hell of a leg day though, are you starting to see little grooves in your legs yet?

Quickxi
05-03-2007, 10:35 PM
yes during the leg extensions, I can see leg muscles. I don't carry a lot of fat in my legs, no veins though :D

I honestly can barely walk after my leg day. Do you think I should go a little bit lighter on the legs to get a cardio in?

JaeGee
05-03-2007, 10:39 PM
Nah your workouts are pretty sweet, I'd stick to what your doing. Plus the DOMs probably is managable after doing it week in and week out. Or atleast you are as used to it as you can be.

Veins on legs...that would be awesome. Would have to be a pretty low BF to see that :(

I am having some good vascularity in my arms all the time now. Keep up the good work Mike, you will have that too.

Up to you on the leg workout. You may try it for a couple weeks and see if the extra cardio gives any extra fat loss benefit. First try dragging your rubber legs on the TM for a while. The first 10 minutes are not pleasant, but it is much better after that, for me at least.

The hill is a deadly, 2/3 of a mile, steep as anything, "pathway" through part of the apartment complex. At the bottom is a decent warmup area with a gradual incline.

The second part of the climb is where the incline gets steep.

The third section levels off only to lead into the

OMG PART! This is a windy windy steep path that is something straight out of hell. The little kids that are in the area usually avoid this part because of how steep it is. I usually walk as fast as I can up the entire thing twice.

Maybe after I lose some more bf I can attempt to run up it but at this point that is out of the question.

I reread what i've typed, and it doesn't sound as bad as it actually is. Trust me it's rough as anything...

okay so that was my leg workout. Some details of my gym:
1. Thursday the cleaning staff is in
2. upon entering, the cardio is immediately to the right
3. everything else is straight ahead up 5 metal stairs
4. on the left side of the stairs there is a railing
5. there is no railing on the right side
6. the gym is going through some renovations but is open while they repair things

Okay, here's the story, I hesitate to type it here, but I figured since it happened might as well.

I had just finished my last calf raise and was walking to get some water. As I drank, my thoughts went something like this:
"Man! My legs are rubber....I can't believe Scott and Jordan do cardio like this...well i've seen their results....success breeds success....both of them lost a good amount of body fat by doing cardio...I think that I'll give it a go...oh sh*t was that the stairs...!!!!!! I had gone down the wrong side of the steps and there was no railing to break my fall...

I snapped out of my thoughts at the last minute and tried to keep my legs from buckling under me. It was too late as I fell I locked eyes with the cleaning lady, for what seemed like forever I watched as her face twisted into a look of "OMG". Luckily, (for me, not the gym, keep reading...)the bucket of water that the cleaning lady was using was there to break my fall. Unfortunately, the bucket was filled with water....yeah remember the renovations? The bucket flipped over and the water ran right into an electrical outlet that was set up for a drill. Because the line was hot, the water shorted out the outlet and caused all the lights, the bikes and the televisions to turn off. Most of the cardio machines were still ok...
People were livid, thank god that the gym was mostly empty...I turned to the manager who had made her way down from her office and shrugged and sheepishly said, "leg day." Being that she has a sense of humor, she smirked and said she'd see me again over the weekend and asked me to drive carefully....

It was the dumbest thing, it wouldn't even be funny on a sitcom because people wouldn't believe it. I was/am so embarassed, but i figured some of you would find humor in this. Maybe when I return home from work it will be funny, but right now, i'm seething....

i'll post upon return....

Don't let that put you down.
Actually use it as a motivation to work harder!!!

You are doing a great job so keep at it :D

It seems those measurements are very small differences. Perhaps some kind of water-retention effect?

Just wanted to say I've been following your journal for a while now, but never posted. Keep it up!

Your stairs story reminds me of a time when I got launched off a treadmill in college. I had it up to 9 or 10 MPH - trying to push really hard at the end of a run. I was pretty tired, and I sort of tripped on a step. Next thing I know I'm on my side on the treadmill, then the thing shot me off the back of it. I had some pretty nasty burn marks on my arm and side where I hit the tread. Good thing it was only me and one of my friends working out up there - it was late.

The fact that the scale hasn't moved AND the WAIST HAS GONE UP IS MADDENING!
A quarter of an inch could easily be measurement errors or slight water retention. You are talking about a 0.56% difference.

If the trend continues on the next scheduled measuring, then worry.

I know how you feel man, when I go at it hard and expect good results and they don't end up being what I expected I get really pissed off.

If next week you see similar problems with your weight maybe it's time to change something up.

Just have to tell yourself in the back of your head that every result is just a stepping stone on where to go next.

Nice workout! What kind of ab machine do you use?

Hanging leg raises with ab straps are great ab exercises.

I don't like to use 'machines' because I don't isolate enough and use other body parts to help with the exercise.

Don't worry about the numbers. Think back to your diet, most likely something there gave your the water retention. Maybe you didn't drink enough water the day before....?

Congrats on your loss thus far.

Just a tip, for fat loss your cardio should be lower intensity for a longer time. This is optimum for fat burning. Do the following formula to get a good fat loss heartrate:

220 - "your age" x .65 (approx)

You are not looking for something that leaves you gasping if you want to burn fat. Drop your cardio pace and go for longer periods and your fat will fall of faster

As far as your "salt/grease" craving, I am with you. I keep Rold Gold Honey Wheat Twists on hand as well as Planters Roasted Deluxe Nuts. I just use them in smaller amounts and it keeps me aways from fries, cheesticks, etc....

Good luck and remember, you didn't gain that much weight overnight and you definetly won't lose it overnight.

Nice workout, are you going to start doing more of a HIIT cardio from now on? Or were you just a bit bored and needed a change?

BBQ at all today? I didn't do a damn thing, felt like I wasted the day lol.

I agree...Nice workout!

I smelled a lot of BBQ's during my bike ride. I admit...I did have a hot dog & cheeseburger yesterday for dinner.

scheduled off day today. Have to go to Maryland on Wednesday for work. I get to fix a mess, yeah me! Any way, means that I will post tomorrow but won't be able to post again until I come back Friday night. I love going on travel

Yeah, yesterday I took it easy, just hung out with the family and watched some movies. Nice relaxing holiday, after I killed my arms at the gym of course.

No that's the cardio breakdown that I normally do. I thought I would post it for review/etc.

A day not at work, is never a wasted day :)

Well if it's never a day wasted than I came as close as possible :)

And the cardio looks good, if it's what you enjoy then hell go with anything :) I've become a big believer in to do the kind of cardio that keeps you doing it. Everything helps the goal so do what you enjoy.

Doesn't sound like you are going to have much fun in Maryland, but try your best!

You killed your arms...so, did your family have to feed you?

A few years ago at Thanksgiving brunch, my son fell asleep on my shoulder for 55 minutes. I had just sat down with a plate of food, so my wife ahd to feed me...it was embarrassing, but cute I'm sure. ;) :o

hack squat machine
90*8, 200*6, 90*8

step ups
10's *10 each leg
20's * 8 each leg
30's * 6 each leg

standing calf raises
360*8, 450*8, 450*8, 450*8, 360*6, 270*6

HAHAHA how's that for torture? A leg workout followed by a 4 hour car trip.

Had to buy new pants for work. I was in a 44, now I could fit into a 38, except that my thighs are too big and the legs in the pants don't fit properly. This isn't the 70's ;) So I settled with a 40, which is a little baggy around the waist (that's why I also bought a new belt) but fits nicely around my legs. Have to get them cut they are way too long.

I don't know the comp situation in the hotel i'll be at. I will be able to check in and view the site however. Have a nice few days all!

great job thus far man. If i measure my waist around im 34 inches but my quads are way to big to fit in them. i feel the same way man lol. Especially nowadays were jeans and pants are all "slim fit" not baggy at all

keep up the good work
