To the best of my knowledge it didn't scare any posters away.
On second thought, visitor entries into my journal have slowed down since then.

Well, I stepped on the scale this morning and another pound was gone. Missing. Gone bye-bye. In about a week, that's 2 1/2. Doesn't sound like a lot, but it is 5 pounds this month. Hey, it's a start :)

Well, another week under way. Hope everyone had a great weekend. The wife took the two boys to see Shrek 3 yesterday. I stayed back at home with the little girl who took me for a walk. Which means she walked 70% of the way and I had to carry her the rest :)
Here was the workout this morning:
Deadlifts : 4 x 6
Smith Military Press : 4 x 6
Superset: 4 x 6
BB Rows
Rear Delt raises

I've been doing a lot of grandpa walks lately, my grandaughter (9-10 months)loves to walk while I hold both of her hands - you wouldn't believe how hard that is on the lower back!

Yes I can. There's a lot of bending over with little one's. Now I know why my dad's back always hurt.

LOL, My 3 yr old nephew would have corrected you on that one! It's Shwek the Thewd:D I took him and his sister to see it sat (pretty funny movie actually)and as we were standing in line the little kid behind us just called it Shrek. Stepped on the scale this morning, and woo hoo! Another 2.5lbs. So I am down 7.5 for the month, which I am happy about. I was actually praying to drop 15 this month, but that was sooooo unrealistic. If I end up with just the 7.5 I think it's a success, especially since the target date I am pointing to is over a year off. My dream is to drop close to 40 by then.
I hope to drop at least 25 and hopefully 30 by Thanksgiving. I use Thanksgiving as a milestone because I know historically the period from Thanksgiving until about the second week of January, workouts become more infrequent and the eating goes to Hell.
So, my initial plan, and Lord knows how many times the plan will change, is to continue a cutting plan at least through June, maybe July. Then I will go on more of a maintenance plan for about 3 or 4 weeks. I think that if I don't up my cals to closer to maintenace for a while, I will either stagnate and get frustrated, or cut calories to an unhealthy level. I would fully expect to actually gain a few pounds at maintenance just because I would be putting more carbs back in.
After being on maintenance for a while, then I would slowly start dropping cals again and restarting the fat loss. Hopefully the maintenance period would kick start my metabolism again. So my cut then would last until Thanksgiving. Between Thanksgiving and the middle of January, the eating would be somewhere between maintenance and a lite bulk. The workouts would be more of a strength/bulk.
Once the middle of January comes and all of the holiday hoopla is done and the kiddos are back in school, then the cutting phase comes back. I would probably cut until April, then go maintenance for 2 or 3 weeks, then go into full blown cut mode until my birthday in June, which is my final goal date.

Hoos I think this is a great idea.
If I may, can I recommend something like the Caveman diet (if you can), High protein & high fat, and a carb splurge every 4 days.
It works wonders if you keep your cals around 2500!!!!!

Hey all. I certainly hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend. I was pretty good diet wise the whole weekend. I did save my "carb up" until last night when the wife and I went out to PF Changs, which is a chinese bistro. It's almost impossible to go low carb there, so I decided to save that for a cheat meal.
This morning in the weight room was back and shoulder day. Here was the show:
Deadlifts : 4 x 7
Smith Shoulder Press : 4 x 7
BB Row : 3 x 8
Rear delt raises : 3 x 7
I was able to do more reps on the deads and the shoulder press. When I got to the last two exercises, my energy had started to give out, so I basically did the same as the week before.

Hi Hoos. Congratulations on the weight loss...7.5lbs is fantastic.
Hey Tiffy! Thanks, and your progress is going well, too!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
heheheheheheheh...morning, Josie.
Well, today was quads and calfs. I started off with conventional squats instead of machine squats. I hadn't done normal squats in probably 2 or 3 months. I can tell the difference already. Using the machine, I never feel it in my hammies, but with real squats my hamstrings are singing to me right now.
Here was the show:
Squats : 4 x 5
Smith Machine Standing Calf Raise : 3 x 12
Leg Press : 4 x 6
Sitting Calf raise : 3 x 10
Leg Ext : 3 x 10
So, now my quads are really angry with me. I felts a slight strain in my back while doing squats, another indication of how careful I need to be when doing them.
Well, you all have a great Thursday.

Yeah, the weekend is almost here! Why is it 4 day work weeks seem the longest?
Well, I don't have DOMS in my legs this morning like I thought I would. It actually isn't too bad. Today was chest and hammy day:
Superset:
Flat Bench : 4 x 6 - I felt strong on these compared to last week.
RDLs : 4 x 6 - I upped the weight for the same reps, so that was good
Superset 2:
DB Incline Bench : 4 x 6
Lying Leg Curls : 4 x 8 : I upped the weight on both of these, too!
I had to cut the workout a bit short...I didn't get to do the machine flys...due to getting up late. But all in all I thought it was a good workout.

Good afternoon! :)
Hey Denise! You have a great afternoon, too!
Mornin' neighbor...:)
Howdy Lisa !
Thanks for the welcome! You'd think a 4-day week would go more quicky, but it ever seems to work that way, does it?
I know...I figured out during a normal work week, Wednesday at noon is the halfway point. But during a 4 day week, it isn't half over until Wednesday is done...that's what throws us off! :) (yeah, I know, weak attempt at logic)
good stuff........ and why art thou keeping ur weights information awayst from us? is it like the leg picture? which we are do for another piece of the puzzle......
Hey Andy. Well, I've always been hesitant to post my lifting numbers. A few years ago I did on another site, and there were a few posers who felt the need to ridicule them...ever since then I've been gun shy about posting stats and numbers.

Sorry I wasn't on yesterday. I was off work because it was my son's kindergarten graduation day. I decided to take the whole day off instead of just a half day. Once his ceremony was finished, I went over to the other boys second grade class because I was the guest reader. After reading Curious George to his class, we sat down with him at lunch. This was cool because I hadn't been able to do that this school year.
Last night, the oldest boy also had a ball game and I about froze to death out there. When we left the house, it was so humid outside but once we got to the field it felt like we crawled into an ice box!
And due to all the activities yesterday, I never got my Monday workout in. So I just went to the gym this morning and got it in. Here was the routine:
Deadlifts : 4 x 6. I was able to get all 6 reps this week, so I will try and up my reps next week.
Military Press : 4 x 6. I had been doing shoulder presses sitting down on the Smith Machine. These I did standing in the power rack, and that really does make a difference.
Superset:
BB Row : 3 x 7. I was able to up the weight with these.
Read delt raises : 3 x 7. Can't seem to make any progress in weight or reps with these.
All in all, a good session. Tomorrow will be quads and calfs.

Aw, sounds like a great day! :)
Yep, it was. Today is actually the official last day of school. The had to go a day and 1/2 extra to make up for snow days. I know I sure was ready for a break from homework and the circus that comes with getting them ready in the morning.
I decided to delay my quad and calf workout until Thursday. My back was bothering me last night...it felt like a slight muscle strain, so I just elected to put it off a day. I had intended to do some cardio instead this morning, but in the middle of the night I got up with HoosierGirl and ended up falling asleep in the family room, so I couldn't hear my alarm going off at 5:30. Opps. I should have one of you call me each morning to get me up :)

I woke up this morning, and my back felt worse then it did yesterday. Now aweful, just not better. It was quads and calf day, so I just elected to not do barbell squats. I substituted the machine squat machine back in.
Machine Squats : 4 x 7. I actually was able to bump up the weight from what I was able to do with these a couple of weeks ago.
Smitch Calf Raises : 4 x 11. Upped the weight on these, too.
Machine Leg Press : 4 x 6. Yep, more weight on this, too.
Machine Sitting Calf Raise : 3 x 10. This was the first time using this machine.
Leg Ext : 3 x 10. Sounds like a broken record, but the weight went up with these, too.

Ya Hooo!!!! The end of the work week! I only worked 4 days this week, but man it felt long.
The back felt ok this morning, better than yesterday morning. But I tell ya, I really had to coax myself to the gym this morning. Part of it was because chest isn't my favorite bodypart to workout, for what ever reason. I also just felt sluggish. However, it didn't seem to affect my lifts because I was able to increase the weight ore reps on all the movements, so all's well that ends well.
The Show:
Flat Bench : 4 x 7 (more reps)
RDL : 4 x 7 (more weight)
Incline DB Bench : 4 x 6 (more weight)
Leg Curls : 3 x 8 (more weight)
Machine Flys : 2 x 12 (more weight)
My weight has slowed a bit to about 1/2 pound a week, but my clothes are fitting better. So that tells me I am still losing some fat and have added a bit of muscle. Next week I am going to try to throw a bit of cardio onto the end of a couple of days, and maybe even having one cardio day. We'll see how it goes.

georgeous weekend weather.....how was the bball yesterday?
The games went just fine. The oldest has his final regular season game tonight, then the tourny starts. The youngest is in t-ball, so they don't have a post season.
Well I hope you all had a fantastic weekend. I decided to start the carb-up last night because...well, I had some carrot cake dangled in front of me, and I am weak. I'll pretty much end it at noon, otherwise I would have a tendancy to go overboard.
The workout went well this morning, the strength continued to go up, except on the rear delt raises. I did feel a bit of back twinge during bb rows. I am not sure if it's the rows or the deads that are agrivating it.
Here was the routine:
Deads : 4 x 6 - I added a bit of weight this morning, so that was good.
BB Military press : 4 x 7. Didn't add weight, but I was able to do more reps.
BB Rows : 3 x 7 - Same weight, but more reps.
Rear Delt Raises : 3 x 7. Basically the same as the last 2 weeks. Bummer.
I then did 10 minutes on the stepper. Wasn't sure if I should do cardio at all this morning because the tendonitis was acting up in my knees all weekend. It was probably a combination of the leg curls on Friday and doing a lot of standing this weekend.

I've had tendonitis in my patellas in both knees for years. The thing that makes it act up more than anything is standing on hard surfaces. Sometimes things like leg curls and extentions aggrivate it, too.

What are you doing for your Glutes? Neglecting them can also cause patella tendinitis. This is because the stronger quads can pull the knee caps out of alignment when you squat. (I know, it happened to me.)

Hi Hoos! I love squats and lunges for the glutes. I feel the soreness for days after I do walking lunges.
I love walking lunges. In fact I did them today ! :)
My PB is strapped to 105 lbs Db's...but right now I am lunging with 65's.
Howdy Hoos !

I've been doing extensions again but I've heard they are hard on the knees. They don't bother mine though.
Hamstring curls bother my low back but I like doing them.
I'm just the opposite, I need to do extentions to warm up my knees so squats don't kill them.

Wow...nice strength there, Chi. I did lunges today for the first time in years. I just went for form so I could remember how to do them. I just used a couple of 20lb DB's.

You know Josie, you only hurt the ones you love :)

hmmmm...some coffee from Starbucks to go with the carrot cake. What a great idea, Lisa!

I probably don't warm-up enough. I read an article yesterday that recommends using moist heat to pre-warm up the patella's before working out.

The knees were still sore this morning, but not quite as much. While I sat and watched my sons baseball practice last night, I iced my knees down. I may have to do that later, also.
Todays show:
Machine Squat : 4 x 7 (upped the weight)
Smith Calf Raise : 4 x 11 (upped the weight)
DB Lunges : 3 x 8 (thanks for the suggestion, Joel!)
Machine Sitting Calf Raise : 3 x 10
And I stopped the show there. I thought about doing leg presses, but I opted to go a bit easier today.

kind of, but not really. Truth be told I probably should refrain anything involving the knees this week. But, with the boys finally out of school and the girl sleeping well, it would kill me not to be able to take advantage of it. All it all it probably means I won't be able to start all the cardio I was wanting to do until next week or the week after.

Often more energy is expended avoiding cardio, then in doing cardio.
I would be doing my cardio this evening, if it weren't for that darn planetary alignment thing that's going on. :p

i dun with cardio for a while and have read many articles that indicate excess amounts of cardio do not exactly induce weight loss........i do think some is necessary but even if u do 20 minutes 3 times a week along with a healthy diet and weight lifting ur going to loose weight.......tho if ur really targetting a healthy heart more is needed then proably 30-40 x3 a week but for fat losss i dun neccessarily beleive excess amounts are going to get fat off of u without a good balanced diet.....there are many many more articles coming out indicating that a shorter volume at higher level maybe just as beneficial as a 30 min-45 minute session at burning fat or even better....imo diet and weight lifting are the keys ........ if u enjoy ur cardio then by all means if u don't then concentrate on ur diet and wieghtlifting....

Friday: Chest and Hamstrings
Well, let me tell ya. This morning in the gym was aweful. I had worked up to 7 reps with the weight I had been benching with, so I figured I'd add 5 lbs to the bar. Well, I couldn't pump out more that 3 reps! I added 5lbs, and my reps dropped by 4! Basically, my energy level was nill. Nadda. Non-existent.
I finished my 4 sets of flat benching, then I did 4 sets of RDLs, and called it a day with the weights. I rode the stepper for 15 minutes and headed home to the shower. I basically am chalking it up to an off day. Over the weekend, I need to examine my caloric intake and meal timing. Plus also I need to think about some additional supplimentation. When cutting cals, days like this at the gym are bound to happen. But I think I do need to make some nutritional adjustments.
All this got me thinking what people like Josie and Denise and Athena, people who have a professioanal interest in working out and nutrition, go through. My hat off to all of you!

Morning Hoos! :)
I attribute my low energy day last night to insufficient caloric intake. 1500 daily is too low for me. I lose poundage, but can't keep up the pace. So.... back to around 2000/day for me
I agree with the kudos to those who make a living out of this; the discipline comes to my mind foremost.

And good morning to all. During the workouts today, I decided that I will need to ditch deadlifts for a while. I did all my sets today, and I could tell that it was the deads that was straining my lower back. It probably indicates poor form. I'll probably shelve them until I can afford a trainer to work with me on technique. All in all, my stength was good. I switched to a 5x5 on my two main lifts, and I was able to add weight with no problem.
The show:
Deadlifts : 5 x 5
Military Press : 5 x 5
Pulldowns : 3 x 7
DB Shoulder press : 3 x 7
