I figured that since I'll have the new program next Thursday I'll take it easy until then I'll do a bit more cardio then weights.

So Yesterday was 30 minutes on the Stepmill.

Today I did :

Killer 21 3 x 21 @ 10s lbs
Skull crusher 3 x 10 @ 45 lbs
Upright row 3 x 10 @ 45 lbs
Seated BB Shoulder press 2 x 12 @ 45 lb
Weighted crunches 2 x 10 @ 25 lbs

Followed by 40 minutes on the spinner (3 minutes high intensity, 1 minute maximum intensity and recovery for 1 minute).

Yesterday we had a party as 2 of our friends got married I ended up cheating quite a bit and I enjoyed every second of it ;)

TKD
04-06-2007, 11:22 AM

For a second there I thought the BB presses were DBs!! lol I thought "OMG!!! She's pressing the same as me!!!" ;)

Good stuff anyway Josie, it feel nice to do your own WO now and then eh?

Hey Josie, so how is your day going? Taking it easy is a great idea, your body needs a break before you start torturing it again next Thursday!

Have fun this week-end!

I'm going to a wedding on Monday, the bride's father (who was born in Italy) wanted his daughter to marry a nice Aussie boy, and is rather intolerant of anyone darker than pure white. She is marrying a black man from Zambia - the speeches should be a hoot!

So today I visited the newly opened gym!

Well opened does not mean ready!

Basically the weight room and the cardio room are nearly completed but everything else needs to be built and/or fixed. BUT it will be amazing, all open very bright!

I went this morning; there was only me and another man working out.

I spoke with the owner, (well he followed me between sets to chit-chat and stare at my breast), he said he bought 2 stepmills (YAHHOOO) new Atlantis equipments, he explained that it took that much time because he ran out of money, (it's a gym combined with a spa (massages, hairdresser, nails salon, tanning), and a sports medical clinic.

Anyhoo, he congratulated me on being so constant even after giving birth and told me he also wants kids but his girlfriend doesn't so he leaves her 8 months (that's precise) to change her mind or he will leave her (he's 45 so he says he can't wait forever).

Told me he really likes my husband (still staring at my breast),

While I appreciated the discussion, It only left me enough time to do:

DB killer 21
3 x 10 @ 12.5s lbs

Overhead triceps extensions
2 x 10 @ 17.5s lbs

Abs Leg raise
2 x 12

20 minutes on the Spinner + I ran 3.18 KM (at a pace of 6.18 km/h) and at the end of my workout Lance Armstrong congratulated me it was my best time for a mile so far, I'll need to beat my record so Lance can talk to me again! :D

Soundtrack of the day: Et Pourtant by Charles Aznavour (French singer), Relax by Frankie goes to Hollywood, You ain't see nothing yet by BTO, Sweet home Alabama by Lynyrd Skynyrd, My prerogative by Bobby Brown, Candyman by Christina Aguilera. Wake up by Arcade Fire, Bust a move by Young MC.

Today, I have a problem with my Internet connection, so I had to hack my neighbor connection, hey too bad if he didn't protect it! I have a hard time loading pages so it might be a while before I visit your threads :(

Sorry about the experience today. I know that when someone stares at my chest it gets kind of unnerving, too :). It's actually a shame that it was the owner. You'd think that he'd have a little more class than that.
I'm glad you were able to get some work done, though. I take it that the sauna wasn't open yet, for you :(. That's probably a good thing, he might have followed you in there, too.

Seosaid

Hi Josie,
I have some sympathy for the gym owner and his wandering eyes, although he could have been a little less obvious in his admiration of your assets.
My gym, always a boring off-white throughout, over Easter decided to paint some bright feature walls around the place - and of all the bright colors to choose from they selected lime green.

Today, I have a problem with my Internet connection, so I had to hack my neighbor connection,:(
LOL You're such a bad girl. That reminds me, I need to change my security settings. ;)

I myself am wondering what I'll do after my maternity leave. I have my own business + I work a full time job (been working 80 hours + a week for the past 4 years), I always said I would keep the full time job only until I had a baby (to take advantage of the mat leave) then only work for me.
How do you Canadians work so much? You're an impressive lot. When sitting up call centers for the company I work for, the majority of Canadians I talked to said two jobs is the norm. With so many jobs being filled what is the unemployment rate like there?

LOL You're such a bad girl. That reminds me, I need to change my security settings.

LOL It's a good thing you're not my neighbor then!

How do you Canadians work so much? You're an impressive lot. When sitting up call centers for the company I work for, the majority of Canadians I talked to said two jobs is the norm. With so many jobs being filled what is the unemployment rate like there?

Unemployment rate is at 6.1%, only 1 % more than in the States I think, but I don't know much people around here who work 2 jobs.

The thing is, I started my own company about 4-5 years ago, but I had to built my clients list to make enough money to leave my regular job ... but when it did happen, I realized I was able to handle both and decided to keep doing it (money was REALLY good that way).

I HATE being in debt (I had money problem when I was younger), and I'm happy to say that at 31, I put a great deposit on my new house, paid all of my renovations and even my Jeep cash and I have 0$ in debt.

Plus I really, really like shopping :D

So now I have 3 options(after the maternity leave because we have a full year paid here), I could leave my full-time job and only work for me, which would be great, or I could wait until I know for sure if I want another child, (again so I can take advantage of the full year paid) but if I do so I risk loosing clients and having to keep the regular job because there is no way I"ll be working that much again, I want to see the litle one grow-up!!.

Or, I can decide to let go of my business and only keep the regular job, I have a great paycheck and great benefits and it's only 5 km away.

To be quite honest I don't know what I"ll do :(

Every options has advantages.

LOL

Men are such pigs!

HAHHAHA Glad to see you Powerman!

Oh jeez, how rude was he? Hopefully this won't be an on going thing and he'll let you work out without bugging you. Sounds like the gym will be great once finished (with exception of breast staring guy, lol)

I've attached a pic of the East view from the Cardio room. (about a third of the whole weight room and 1/20) of the whole place

Happy Hump day, beautiful!

Happy Hump day sweety!

Morning, Josie! I have no sympathy for the gym owner. Tell him to buzz off -- that you're trying to exercise!! It's pretty bad when the gym owner does that stuff. I like joc's suggestion. I had it happen once and asked Brian to go with me to the gym for a while. That works pretty well.

Hibby he knows who Nico is, to be quite honest I'll let it go once, but if he does it again, I'll be really straightforward and will ask him if he likes the view! ;)

Josie .. great news on Rockwell's sleeping ... leaves you feeling like a whole new person does it not???

I cannot tell you! I feel in such a great mood! First time in months!!

Have a great day! It's your last do what I want day

Ok so today I only did cardio, I had trouble fitting everything into a very tight schedule!

- Running (for my life ;)) , 3.33 km, average pace of 6.03 km per minute.
I tried going faster since I really wanted Lance Armstrong to congratulate me!
Well to my dismay, Paula Radcliffe told me I did my best time

I did all this for Paula Radcliffe!! Who cares about Paula Radcliffe!I DEMAND Lance :(
and I also did 20 minutes on the elliptical.

**********************
I received my diet:
Daily for every meal:
3 portions protein
2.5 portions (max 2.75) carbs
1 portion fat

Thank God for peanut butter! 75% of my fat source already comes from peanut butter, 15% from olive oil and 5% from salted butter 5% from coconut oil
and I can't count fish oil as a portion. :(

I have to eat endives and carrots daily and focus more on chicken, turkey, veal, sardines and salmon as sources of protein.

Before Bed:
Choice of
-1 Scoop casein
-1/3 cup oatmeal
- 1 cup of blueberries sauce or apple sauce

Supplements:
- ZMA (before bed and during dinner)
- 20 fish oil capsules
- Green tea 3 x daily
- Multi 2 x daily
- BCAA
- H90 (Liver cure for 60b days)

and (drum rolls please):

2 glasses of wine daily!! (only pinot or merlot but hey, I'll survive with those 2)

It's real green tea Hibby, although I wonder if the extract would do the same thing?

What do you think?

And I freeze my fish oil capsules, this way I don't burp them (and I also use the lemon flavour!!) it makes a huge difference.

Let's all go on Josie's diet!! :D Two glasses of merlot a night would suit me just fine!

I've never hard of freezing the fish oil caplets. I've only tried taking them once. Maybe I'll get brave again. :p

The extract would be much stronger, Josie. I am going to start drinking the tea again to see if it messes with me this time. It really gave me bad jitters when I tried it before. I'd be too scared to try the extract, although if the tea doesn't bother you perhaps it would be worth your while.

I didn't get a good night's sleep last night, my hubby was snoring so loudly I asked him to sleep in the guests room... well after an hour I had to close the guests room door and my bedroom door to muffle the noise , of course just as I fell asleep, my son woke up!

So I left for the gym in a very tired state of mind:

Day Two:

A1 Hack Squat
1 x 12 @ 100 lbs
1 x 12 @ 150 lbs
2 x 12 @ 175 lbs

A new program is always confusing, I never know the weights I need to use. Will start with 175 lbs next time

A2 Seated lat PullDown
1 x 12 @ 60 lbs
3 x 12 @ 65 lbs
The tempo used (1 down, hold 2 and 3 up) is very hard !

B1 DB Squat (incline)
1 x 12 @ 15 lbs
3 x 12 @ 17.5 lbs
I know I could use more but my arms were really too sore today

B2 Seated Row with rope
2 x 10 @ 55 lbs
2 x 12 @ 55 lbs
The last 2 reps of the last set nearly killed me

C1 External rotator
1 x 12 @ 7.5 lbs (was focusing more on good posture)
2 x 10 @ 10 lbs

C2 MAT Upper Fibers (transverse)
3 x 12 @ BW

Then I decided to do 20 minutes on the elliptical... the cardio room is upstairs!
my legs were shaking... but I had to hold for my dear life when the time came to go down the stairs!

Darren
I stretched:
Piriformis
Quads
Lats (ballerina stretch IT HURST)

I came home and took an hour long nap sandwiched between my dog and my son, it was all warm and cozy, I hope I'll be able to do this more often :)

So that's it for today!

BigBT

Sorry about the awful sleep. You should be commended for going into the gym instead of giving in and taking a nap. The weights look good and I'm glad you found your limits with the new routine. The two second hold at the bottom of your lat pulls looks killer! I'd need every restaining device imagineable to keep my butt firmly planted in the seat while trying that.

No elevator in the cardio room for occasions just like today???

I wished they'd put an elevator for me yesterday! :D

I have a tempo to respect for each exercises, but some are way harder than others.

I have to admit that some days I'd rather stay in bed but I won't sleep more anyway so I might as well get my bum to the gym ;)

Nice workout Josie.
Hopefully you'll sleep like a log tonight.

It was a better night! Thanks JMC

LOL Awesome streching Josie!!! :D Funny actually, I also do the "ballerina" stretch for the lats! Breathing is a tad difficult at times and it hurts like hell!!! - in a good way of course! Well done that girl, I'm really proud of you now!!

ballerinas are a killer when your tight!! My left side is literally pinching! Hope it gets better soon.. I guess I'll need to stretch more often :D

Exciting new routine too!! Nice to see some regular stuff in there!

I thought about you I soon as I saw the Deadlift :D

Hey Josie. It's my first time in here, but I pretty much read your entire journal in one sitting  Most of it anyway. I'm very impressed with your progress. I'm subscribed.

Today was Day Three:

A1 BB Romanian Deadlift
2 x 12 @ 65 lbs
2 x 10 @ 65 lbs
My hands are sliding, hence this weight, I know I could use more but need a firm grip any tips would be appreciated (I do wear gloves)

A2 Incline DB Pec Press
4 x 12 @ 17.5
With the tempo (1 up hold for 2 and 4 down) that weight was enough today

B1 Reverse Back Extension
4 x 12 @ 22.5 lbs
It feels awkward, however I could use a lot more weight, will see next time

B2 Horizontal Pec Press Machine
2 x 12 @ 65 lbs
2 x 12 @ 55 lbs

C1 Woodchop Facing Pulley
3 x 12 @ 45 lbs
Did not really feel those but the weight was pulling me

D1 Calf Raise
1 x 12 @ 180 lbs
1 x 12 @ 270 lbs
1 x 12 @ 300 lbs
wasn't sure about the weight to use, Will start with 300 lbs next time

NO cardio today! I have a hard case of DOMS :D

Tomorrow will be either cardio only or rest, I haven't decided yet!

Hope you all have a great night!

Nice looking workout again today. About the grip on the deads, have you tried an alternating grip with one hand gripping forward and the other reverse? That helped me stabilize quite a bit. I also tuck my thumb under my fingers and squeeze so that it can't slip.

Nice workout Josie.
I use the alternating grip on deads and SLDL, and use straps above a certain weight. Straps are great, and will also really help if you do pull-ups or rows at weights that are right on your upper limit.
I hope you had a great weekend.

I didn't get a good night's sleep last night, my hubby was snoring so loudly I asked him to sleep in the guests room... well after an hour I had to close the guests room door and my bedroom door to muffle the noise , of course just as I fell asleep, my son woke up!
I guess that's one advantage of me working the night shift--I don't keep my wife up all night. My girls do make fun of me though :( Sorry about your loss of sleep.

I came home and took an hour long nap sandwiched between my dog and my son, it was all warm and cozy, I hope I'll be able to do this more often :)
Some of my fondest memories include naps like that. Babies are cool. I'm not ready yet but I eagerly await the time when I can play grandpa.

I have to admit that some days I'd rather stay in bed but I won't sleep more anyway so I might as well get my bum to the gym.

Sir Brian and Sir Jason offer thee a useful tool. I maketh use of this too. To strengthen thy grip I wouldst suggest add thou a simple exercise to the rest:

On the day you do your pulling exercises add plate tosses to your routine. Grab a smooth plate 2#, 5#, or 10# and toss it from hand to hand. Catch the plate from the top using an overhand grip. You can also use bricks, blocks, or books of various widths. I took a hex dumbbell and cut the handle out to make a nice heavy block.

Hi Josie! About the grip, if you'Re like me, I have really small hands ( they match my feet ;) ) so my fingers don't go completely around the bar and I'm always stuck with the bar on the tip of my fingers. I refused to use straps because I figured my grip would get even worse but since my goal is to improve my legs and not participate in a DL comp I use hooks and they work great ( better then straps for me) Since I have small wrists, the straps cuts my circulation.

I would highly suggest that you do some grip exercises and wrist curls to improve your grip so that one day you won't need the hooks or straps. I noticed that since I'm noth praying not to drop the bar when I deadlift my form is better too.

Good Luck

I know the bar slips out of my hands too so my coach forced me to get hooks. I have the ProGryp one and they fit well, you just have to cut the extra neoprene and they will fit great. Here is what they look like and if it's for the bar I find they work better then straps.

A1 DB Abduction & Rotation
2 x 12 @ 10s lbs
1 x 10 @ 10s lbs
1 x 9 @ 10s lbs
My shoulders were BURNING after the 2nd set!
2,5 more lbs and one more set

A2 Seated shoulder press machine
4 x 12 @ 45 lbs
45 more lbs and one more set

B1 BB Bent over Row to Neck
3 x 12 @ 40 lbs
10 more lbs

C1 EZ Biceps curl to forehead
1 x 9 @ 45 lbs
3 x 10 @ 40lbs
10 more lbs and one more set

C2 Triceps EZ SkullCruscher & Chest press combo
1 x 12 @ 45lbs
3 x 12 @ 40 lbs
10 more lbs and one more set

D1 Low Abs coordination
3 x 12

D2 Rope crunch
3 x 12 @ 130 lbs
130 more lbs :D

THEN I added 30 minutes on the Stepmill (40 seconds intervals between low and high intensity)

My hammies were burning on the Stepmill and I was so sweaty I quickly left after my cardio. I came home and made the best shake ever! (I threw protein orange juice and frozen strawberries in the blender!)

I stretched pec, bis, tris.

Hello Josie, you alright mate? :)

Excellent progress on the last WO!!

As far as your grip is concerned in the DL, first thing to do here is ditch the gloves on this lift. Its just going to pull the material back against your hand.

Those John Brookfield exercises are awesome, but a bit too hardcore maybe for you. The Ironmind site is aimed at grip freaks :D Next thing we know you'll be doing CoC gripper WOs lol :p

If you want improve your grip quickly though without spending much time on it, do a few sets of pronated bb holds (timed for about 10 seconds each attempt).

At the end of the day you are doing high reps, so grip is always going to be a problem at that rep range. I agree totally with what Izzy said, buy some straps or even hooks. If you are doing low reps, then fine grip work should be done, otherwise why sacrifice muscle over grip strength for high reps?

Happy Thursday to ya matey!! ;)

A1 BB Romanian Deadlift
3 x 12 @ 85 lbs

A2 Incline DB Pec Press
4 x 12 @ 20
2.5 lbs more

B1 Reverse Back Extension

12.5 lbs more
I loved the way my bum look while doing those :D

C1 Woodchop Facing Pulley
3 x 24 @ 45 lbs
Stable, but I did them correctly and IT BURNED!

D1 Calf Raise
3 x 12 @ 300 lbs
More weight overall
While I was doing these, a guy came by, since all my stuff was on the other machine I thought he wanted to use it and removed it, he then introduced himself, saying : " Hi I'm Hugo, could we see each other outside the gym?"

Nice workouts Josie.
I find those external rotations really burn as well - makes me think they're doing the job!
Had a sensational red this weekend - Stanton and Killeen Shiraz Durif 2001 (Rutherglen wine region). Don't know if any is exported.

While I was doing these, a guy came by, since all my stuff was on the other machine I thought he wanted to use it and removed it, he then introduced himself, saying : " Hi I'm Hugo, could we see each other outside the gym?"

Goord Morning Josie,

See if you trained at my gym, where 95% of the clientele is gay, you wouldn't have that problem. When a guy comes over to talk to me I KNOW he wants my machine and nothing else...

Your wo looks great, you have some really good increases there.

So did you enjoy the show last night! I saw you and toughts you looked absolutely fantastic. Even prettier in person! :) I would have said hi if you would've staid put for more than 5 sec....

Have a great day!

That guy was hysterical! He wouldn't even listen to the judges when they were asking for 1/4 turns. I went with two friend and and we laughed so hard, I'm sure to him this was a big joke, he couldn't possibly be serious

Oh and what about the MC, did he really think he was funny???

I wasn't impressed by the caliber either, I made my friend Phil promise that he would not let me go on stage looking like some of the girls. I felt bad talking trash about competitors because I'm sure they worked hard but a lot of them were not even close to being ready.

On the up side, I was really happy for my friend Isabelle ( tall blond in the purple suit) who won muscle model and that Fran?ois Chicoine won overall, he's such a nice guy and he's done so much for the sport and I loved Larry Vinette's routine.

BTW how can you look for me, you don't even know wha I look like. My fault I wanted to send you a pic of my face but I forgot...

I actually asked him if I could offer him another exercise that would target his abs more efficiently while being safer and he said yes.

Nice looking work-outs Josie, keep it up you are doing great.

Thanks camchad, I emailed him to get the tentative dates... it was 2 weeks ago and I'm still waiting for an answer :(

On another note I received an email in the beginning of the month from Larry Niven (http://www.larry-niven.com/) who's a photographer for American Curves and Musclemag. He asked to met me at the Nationals... way off my league for now :D

We talked about meeting up anyway, I'm just out of shape right now so it'll have to wait a bit :D

Ok so here's today's post ;)

Gym wise.. I only did 50 minutes on the elliptical today - 2 minutes intervals (9% elevation and resistance 5 + 17% elevation and resistance 7) I had left my iPod unlocked in my bag and the battery was dead so I worked out on 50 cent music the whole time.... now I like a few of his songs but some are just plain bad!

My bum was so sore that I figured the stepmill wouldn't be a great idea :D
My abs are also VERY some, the 10 lbs increased really did it for me!

Now I'll be offline for a week starting either Sunday or Monday, I'll be spending some time at the country house BUT I will workout since I have a membership at the local gym and I also have my trampoline to do the cardio (I LOVE THIS), I'll update you when I get back.

I learned this week that my husband will spend 2 weeks in Europe for his work, he is leaving in about 2 weeks, I will miss him! :(
If I receive my son's passport on time I might go down south with my mother, if not well to bad!

Now I wanted to spill the beans about Larry Niven (http://www.larry-niven.com/) but I did in the previous post :D

That's it for today.. I'm tired! I want to nap but I have to many things to do!!!

See? You already know me so well.

The thing I have found with hooks is that I wear them out fairly quickly. This is to say that I "pop" the metal through the fabric after a while. I have been able to extend the life on them with some athletic tape.

Just dragging my tired ass in here to say hello and check up on you....forgive me for being too distracted to come by very often. Have a hard enough time getting out of bed in the morning! lol

Pics coming soon my dear!;)

Your tired a$$ is still very sexy, I cannot believe I'll finally have those pics :D

See? You already know me so well.

The thing I have found with hooks is that I wear them out fairly quickly. This is to say that I "pop" the metal through the fabric after a while. I have been able to extend the life on them with some athletic tape.

LOL! getting there, do you think I should order another pair right away?

Today was supposed to be a day off but I decided I had enough energy and went for a quick cardio session - 45 minutes on the elliptical - 2 minutes intervals (9% elevation and resistance 5 + 17% elevation and resistance 7)

I regretted it when I came back home!

I accepted a few contracts and my clients are all going nuts and sending me too much work but since they are big names and pay well, I felt obligated to say yes!

Thank God My son slept!

Now a little joke ;)
**************

Dear Abby,

I've never written to you before, but I really need your advice.

I have suspected for some time now that my wife has been cheating on me.
My wife has been going out with the girls a lot recently although when I
ask their names she always says, "Just some friends from work, you don't
know them."

Anyway, I have never approached the subject with my wife. I think deep
down I just didn't want to know the truth, but last night she went out
again and I decided to really check on her.

Around midnight, I decided to hide in the garage behind my hockey bag so I
could get a good view of the whole street when she arrived home from a
night out with "the girls".

It was at that moment, crouching behind my hockey bag that I noticed that
my composite stick appeared to have a hairline crack right by the heel of
the blade.

Is this something I can fix myself or should I take it back to the store
where I bought it?

Congrats on the workload. I know it sucks when it is a bit much, I'm going through the same thing right now. Working out is the only chance I have to completely forget about it for an hour. Enjoy your week away.

Another nice looking workout, Josie. I hope the cramps were short lived. I'm sure you just overworked yourself today :D. Your son is getting bigger. You better keep lifting or you won't be able to carry him around much longer. I still like to carry my son around from time to time. I made it a half a block the other day ;).

Have a wonderful vacation.

I'M BACKKKKKKKKKKKK

It was pretty much the worse vacation ever!
First it was so cold, we stayed inside most of the week.

Second, my son didn't know the place so he wouldn't sleep alone.. and for more than an hour or so at the time and my hubby was so tired he snored like hell.

I am exhausted!!!

I think it' worse now that I got used to him sleeping all night!

We also had a lot of visitors... (every single night) translation I made dinner for a minimum of 7 persons daily and I ended up cheating most of the week... and having more than my share of wine daily ;)

On top of that, I made it to the gym only 3 times.

The result is not much fun to look at!

I'm not very proud!!

So back at it tomorrow!

I'll visit all your threads tomorrow to!
I'm so tired I'll jump in bed right now!

Let's see: you didn't sleep well, ate lots of things you shouldn't have, drank more than your fair share of wine, & went to the gym only 3 times. Sounds like your were on vacation. Maybe not the best one ever, but if it was the worst one then things can only get better. Go to sleep & sleep in late tomorrow. Monday'll come soon enough.

We's be glad that thou art back Milady! So be the case that thou must return to thy toils to rest from thy vacation. Forsooth this be a woeful telling. Now, sleep on fair one. Rest well for thy quest doth await thee. Let thy quest fill thee with energy, spirit, and vivacity. God give you good Milady Josie.
