Explain the periodization method
Basically periodization is a training method using time intervals and stresses to create the peak performance of an athlete for a competition. It divides your time into three cycles the microcycle, mesocycle, and macrocycle. The microcycle is a small pattern of trainging over a few days for example today I work out chest and tris tomoro back and bi and the next day shoulders and legs I take a day off and repeat. generally up to 7 days. The mesocycle specifically is for reaching a goal and may be anywhere from 2 weeks to a few months. It is a block of microcylces. preparation, competition, and peaking are all mesocycles and the macrocycle refers to the entire training cycle, usually taking a year.

How can periodization be used to increase the effectiveness of one’s workouts? Be specific.
Peroidization can increase the effectiveness of a workout by knowing what you want to do when you get to the gym. That will make your time there more useful and will give you a better work out rather than what we all know doesn’t work, an unorganized work out. You cannot benefit from going to the gym if you are over or under working you muscles. If you keep track of what you are doing than you will be less likely to have problems with those things. If you under work your muscle you won’t get the most out of your workout, and if you over work your muscle you will cause fatigue taking longer to heal your muscle and may even cause muscle loss.

What are the benefits to periodization?
The benefits of periodization are not wasting your time working out because you have a workout already and all you need to do is follow it. Periodization also will change the way you work out every few months.

What are some of the downfalls?
Some downfalls of periodization are you can lose muscle if you don’t set up your workout perfectly from the beginning if you plan to stick it out and follow your macro. Also there are better ways to work out, considering your ability changes as your diet changes and your stress and sleep change. Those are things you can’t always be in charge of unless you have a free day every day. If your body can’t perform the way that you were expecting it to and you planned a work out for that body part that you have a problem with than you may need to change your mesocylce and that would throw off your macro. And than your not really following your plan and it screws everything up. You can’t plan out a whole year is what I am trying to say.
