im trying to pick out some competition music for my first comp. anyone have good suggestions? so far i was thinking of:
cypress hill-rap superstar
DMX- why do good girls like bad guys
eminem-lose yourself
godsmack-awake
linkin park-superstar
house of pain-jump around
so far my number 1 choice is "jump around" but is that too old? or is there no such thing as a song being too old in a comp?

Some good picks there, I like 'lose yourself', but I bet it'll be pretty popular. Which comp. are you doing?

I don't really recommend any of those songs...maybe godsmack or eminem but the rest are going to be too fast and if you try to pose with the music unless you are en extremely good poser you will just look like a robot. I always prefer something with slow and fast parts so I can kind of start off slow then end with a faster climax. Good songs are like
creed songs or metallica songs like "Are you ready, higher, my sacrifice, what if, hero of the day, until it sleeps, Sad but true, no leaf clover, etc.

not really enough defined beats in that song IMO you wouldn't be able to make it flow good with posing.

I think you could use Lose Yourself maybe Rap Superstar or Awake, all the other one are probably too fast, I don't think the best poser ever could work with that DMX song. As far as the Boyz in the Hood, I agree with Layne, not much as far as a definitive beat. There is also no such thing as a song being too old, although using a "hot" current song can work well oftentimes. I've used Tom Sawyer by Rush and Empty Spaces by Pink Floyd before.

I will be using Journey-Someday Love Will Find You.
I think Danger Zone from Top Gun would be a good selection as well.

Just hope no one thinks about that cheesy video while you're posing. It's a good song, but thinking about that viseo makes me laugh. Danger Zone would definitely be good though.

I remember seeing that video on Beavis and Butthead a few years back. It was really cheesy. Especially the ending where he screams at the top of his lungs. It's the same song Gunter used but i ended out some verses since I only get 60 seconds on stage.

Everything seems to be going great for me, I'm so determined to do good that I don't let any cravings get to me, I have not had any actually, can't wait for the show, its only going to get tougher the closer we get..damn school, I'm a full time student with classes everyday, that sucks...but will power is strong...how are you doing?
Baumer

Things seem to be going good for me too..I had cravings at the beginning, but they've actually gone away as time goes on, I think it's because I know now, there is no room to give in! Now, it's more...planning a few 'meals' the week after the show...Ha!
How's your weight and BF looking? I had mine done last weekend, at 9 weeks out, I was at 7.5%, and had dropped only about a pound.

I agree with str8flexed. You should choose a song that is very dynamic.

03-15-2003, 12:16 PM
I'd choose something more conservative if I were you like what these other guys suggested. A slower Metallica song, Journey things of that nature. Also if you choose something that's currently very popular you run the risk of being the third or fourth guy to use that same music. That happened at the last show I was at. At least four people used the same song by Disturbed.

I've never competed but I always thought that a kick ass song to pose to would be "Anvil of Crom" which is the theme song for Conan the Barbarian. Download it and see what you think....its pretty damn cool.

I think you need to mix the songs up a bit. Try to start with something classy and then after a minute or so, get to something really fast with a strong beat. You must make the crowd go wild. The feeling you will get is amazing bro! Everyone will cheer for you!

well I dunno what fed your compete for but in mine we only have 60-90 secs.
bigjay00
03-27-2003, 08:04 AM
this one is only 90 seconds, im not gonna be able to e prepared in time for it, so im out, at least i could relize that myself. i would still like this conversation to take place. what do you all think about "hero" by knickleback?
str8flexed
03-27-2003, 08:07 AM
your not going to compete...?
hero would be an excellent choice.
bigjay00
03-27-2003, 08:10 AM
nope. it sucks, but i will sooner or later, im not prepared enough, but it is always better to not rush right? :D i wish the two others competing there best of luck

Questions on picking songs. Do you guys pick songs that are perfect at a min or do you just let it cut off? I'm having a hard time finding a lot of choices that end at the right time for a min. Do you use a lot of songs from the beginning or do you just look for a good part? Thanks

If it was a year ago, I'd say be prepared for everyone to use that song because at the 2002 Superbody, at least 3 guys did. The only guy who at least made it good was Musclemania pro Jody Ramos who came out to the theme song of the Spiderman cartoon crawling on the ground with a Spiderman mask on then took the mask off and went into "Hero". Of course other federations don't like props, but Musclemania judges seem to love that **** as Bill Davey won the overall in the pro division of that contest although Janos Lantos destroyed him physique-wise. Bill came out with a cane, top hat, and some tuxedo-looking ****, then ripped the tuxedo-looking **** off(it was some rip-away male-stripper type ****) and went into a higher energy song.

I will be entering my first contest in June and was also having trouble with music. Some of my choices are:
DMX-Up in here, up in here
Godsmack-Moon Baby, or I stand Alone
Creed-Arms wide open, Freedom Fighter, One last breath
What do you guys think?? It has to be limited to 90 seconds.

If I were to use arms wide open what part would I use the beginning? and just cut it off at 90 seconds? what do you recommend?
bigjay00
04-24-2003, 07:48 AM
i would do from 0.19 seconds to 1.10 seconds, to a fade, but thats just my opinion
you can also do it to the beggining of the second chorous, than 90 seconds from that, ya know?
