View Full Version : training for science?

After my most recent bout of field work, I decided that I really need to focus my training and diet on function, and mostly ignore the body shape aspect.

My experiment took place in a local marsh, and I had to carry out lots of heavy equipment, walk out every day for 3 days (through a nor'easter, no less!) to change sediment traps, and then bring it all back in again.

If I'm going to be doing this for a living, I need to be stronger, and I need to develop some semblance of cardio endurance.

Any suggestions on how I might train for strength instead of shape? Low reps and high weight?

And is it reasonable to alternate weights days and cardio days, with cardio focused on developing more endurance?

I'm asking you all so I don't confuse myself. Any advice?
