I am using MsFit's book "Iron Dolls" to complete a 16 week journey to a new and improved me.
My main goal is to reduce my BF by 7%. (more would be nice)
Current BF 22%
Goal BF 15%
I will use the guidelines in the book for diet, workouts, and supplements to reach my goals.
And thanks MsFit...for all the advice you have already given me.
For the past couple of months I have been just winging it with diets and workouts, and it has paid a toll on my body with increased BF.
The past few days, I have been doing my homework. I have meal plans, workout plans, and supplement plans all written out. Boy this is work!! But I know it gets easier, just tough getting back into the full swing of things again.
I am only planning to post reports here weekly, so don't think I have given up if you don't see any posts.
I have another thread in the over 35 group that I will be visiting more often.
Pic taken Friday...of a body that I am not happy with at all. :(

I have faith in you and I know you can do it. I hope I can be of some inspiration even in the "off season" I haven't competed for 5 yrs and I am soooo ready. I wish you the best of luck and if you need help anywhere pm me or just send a post. Just lift hard, heavy(with good form) and make your nutrition the structure for EVERYTHING no matter what!!

I am so psyched about this! :)
Today went great, except for pulling a chest muscle. But even that will not dampen my spirits right now.
I used the assisted chin up for the 1st time. And I did not realize that I should have added weight...instead of not using any.
Well I stepped on the platform and whooosh....I went down in shot!
Now that was ok...but I wanted to be Miss Cool, since there were other people around. So I tried to pick up my body and do an unassisted chin up. I did it, and ouch...killed myself in the process.
But I had already completed my workout except for abs...so I was able to finish. And I won't be doing any more upper body now till Friday, so I should be ok then.
Anyway....I feel good (and sore)! :)

I can't believe how good I feel getting off keto and getting back to eating a variety foods again. Mentally I feel like I am getting a treat with every meal...and physically I have so much more energy. I am eating so clean, yet everything just tastes so much better.
I did legs today...one of my best yet. YEAH!! :)

Just introducing myself. Checked out your pic and it looks great!
Looking at your physic I think my body fat percentage is higher than 20% somehow. :)
Best of luck on your journey,
TrishB
02-01-2003, 08:26 PM
Thanks Belle..
Using the calipers, I am about 2% less, but it is easier for me to do the scale. So that is what I am basing my goal of 15% on.
I carry most of the fat around the abs and hips.
At 14-15% I can maintain pretty well. It is when I get below those numbers that it becomes too much work. But maybe this time, I can get down and stay there. At least thru the summer bathing suit season would be nice. :)

The weekend went very well, and I really only had one cheat meal. Otherwise stayed on track.
I do keep all workouts logged in a notebook. And plan all my meals out the nite before.
Keeping track of what I ate is something I always used to do. And I figured out my next day meals until it became 2nd nature to me.
Then came Thanksgiving...Christmas....NewYears....
It is funny how just a couple of months of going "off the wagon", can do so much damage.
It seems to happen every year. Maybe next year I will remember this!!

BF still going down. I am really excited with the results. I am maintaining the weight while getting that fat to "melt" away!
I'll be away for 2 weeks....and I am planning to see the BF in the 18% range when I get back.
There is a gym where I will be staying...so workouts continue.
I got my diet and meal plans set for the next 2 weeks. I am so into this now that I am not going to let anything stop me from reaching my goals!

Thanks Karen...the book is doing be wonders. I have gotten the BF down before, but also with alot of weight loss too. This is going well. I will keep going down on the BF until it becomes too hard to maintain. But for now, I am very comfortable with the diet and workout routine.

Diet for week 7....starting carb rotation.
I am going to up my calories from where I should be since I seemed to be getting too low too quickly.
I will use the exact formula in the book for this time frame...so that saves me from having to figure anything out. Halleluia.
Workouts are going great. I have upped the cardio a bit and it seems to be paying off with more noticable fat loss.

So what's your take on the calorie situation Karen? Just curious. These girls are going as low as 1400 calories for their activity levels and it seems to be a tad low to my mind. More likely to lose mass than fat. From what I have gathered, we're supposed to be on a higher calorie level than 1400 to lose fat because we need to also cover out level of activity or we will stall. If Trish burns 250 calories per day, on the intake she was doing she is trying to get by on 1150 which is starvation mode as I was saying elsewhere. Not good.

Just to respond to your post:
Jan 26th weight 121lbs BF 22%
March 14 weight 120.5lbs BF 17.5%
4.5% BF loss....with only 1/2 lb weight loss.
Losing BF and increasing muscle mass is what my goal is.
So I am doing something right.
I've worked out for 25 years. And have managed to stay in pretty good form. But I want better than just good.
I am using Karen's recommendations in her book to reach my goals. And if you have seen her.....wow...she knows how to achieve great results! :)

Well it doesn't look like you have much mass. You just look in reasonable shape to me. You have lost fat though. For 25 years of BB I would expect to be looking like Monica Brant and if Msfit does this calorie level, it's beyond me how she does it.
For what it's worth, I've done fitness before. So you could say that apart from taking 6 yrs out, I have been doing it for 39 yrs. LOL! :)

I am not a rocket scientist here, but let me see.
If someone can eat 13-15* body weight and only lose .5 that means that there isn't really a loss of any Lean muscle. Specifically the difference in the lost of her waist.
It seems with only a half pound of weight lost, Trish has found her perfect calorie intake for losing fat and replacing it with muscle. I think that was her goal. Not everyone wants or has the genetics for size.
I am running at 13-14 times my body weight and have went from 207 to 195 to 199. My bf in that time has gone down 7%. Since I hit that bottom I have put on 4 pounds of muslce. So why should you up the calories if your goal is to replace fat with muscle. You find the calorie intake that works for you.. We are all different.

You think this is achievable on 1400 calories for a very active woman? You know for definate that Trish has not lost ANY LBM whatsoever? Whether it is only 1/2 weight loss that could still be muscle. Depends how long she did that extremem level of calories for.

Let me see..not being a rocket scientist either, but a dash of common sense and reasoning with the following:
She's fitter than me at present therefore her metabolism is racing higher and she theoretically should be burning more calories than me and has supposedly more muscle mass. She is taller than me. This all should equate to her needing more than I do where calorific intake is concerned--not less. As I said I am not going to debate something that is impossible. How long did she do 1400 calories for and how can anyone possibly know that what she lost was fat and not muscle here? No one could know but the mere fact that I am burning fat and doing less says it all on 1800 calories here. Your just looking of a photo of a slim woman and assuming she has built mass and lost 1/2 bl of fat. Yes she is slimmer from the first posted pic to the next one but no one can say if it is all fat that was lost at a calorific intake of 1400. If she did that for just a week or two, it would do no big damage just would stall things eventually when her body get's wind of the low intake. She'd just lose a small amount of mass and fat. However, if she did it for longer, she would stall and lose more mass than a pound or two.
Hard to see if she did not lose mass not knowing how long she has been on such a low intake for. Though I don't know why people cycle up and down with their levels of calories instead of staying steady and waiting patiently for fat loss to occur, because the body does not shed fat when it is not getting enough calories, despite what your saying here. Perhaps you can explain the theory behind jumping up and down so low with calories and why it works because I am not about to pay for an E book to read how and why when I have a reasonable amount of knowledge enough to know that mass will be lost. I don't think I am wrong on this either. Obviously I have to make a post elsewhere and support that. NONE of you guys would dream of cutting your calories down so low and yet you indicate that women BB should? Why is that?
I am running at 13-14 times my body weight and have went from 207 to 195 to 199. My bf in that time has gone down 7%. Since I hit that bottom I have put on 4 pounds of muslce. So why should you up the calories if your goal is to replace fat with muscle. You find the calorie intake that works for you.. We are all different.
Not that different little lats. I'm quoting basic scientific principals of weight loss and BB's are NO different. In fact they use more energy and do more so they need a higher intake if anything. It's no wonder people are taking fat burner pills here instead of tapping into their bodies wonderful ability to lose fat steadily at 1-2 lbs per week without compromising LBM. Thats all I can say on this issue. I guess actions are going to speak much louder than words. I'll come back and post when I HAVE mass and HAVE cut fat.

A half pound out of 120lbs is less than 1%. Most people are more than happy with that if not estatic. Trish is not a bodybuilder. She is a person who wants to look and feel good about herself. I am not even a body builder. I have given up on being BIG. Every time I want to be big it goes to my gut thanks to poor genetics and cell memory. I am a lanky person, who wants to feel good and look good. That's it.
For her goals her calorie intake is working just fine..
I am not getting into metabolism because all of ours are different, being of her health status she is far from normal in this area. That could be a reason she can make good results at this calorie intake compared to you.
By the way the BF % is the way to measure progress when dieting and if you can lose 4.5% of body fat and only drop a half pound explain to me where the muscle loss is.. the numbers don't add up to support your statement. (considering I can fluctuate 2lbs just in water.)
That is the main reason for my post. Who said you have to eat 3000 calories a day? Not everybody has to we are all different. The only study I believe is the one that says I am making gains in MY GOAL. A lot of what your reading is hog wash and tax payer money going to waste. If it isn't broke don't fix it.
Common BB Science is to each their own. I hope you make your goals with your program. It isn't a pissing match, it is something I have been saying for a long time, "this works for me but it might not work for you"

Wow....thank you for that post.
I am not one to argue with someone's opinion about my workout routine, diet, or what I look like. Some wars are not worth fighting.
I know what works for me. I know my body.....better than anyone else.
I know how I want to look and what I need to do to achieve those results.
And,I welcome any suggestions, comments, and support.
Belle...
Your posts here and on other threads are very opinionated, full of sarcasm and anger. I've never seen you show any respect for another's choice.
You are doing great with your program and achieving the results you want. I would never suggest you change what is working for you.
But this is not a "one size fits all" way of life. We are all so very different.....and need to take different paths to achieve our goals.
That is what you need to learn to respect.

Belle you asked a question: Why would a person jump the calorie level up and down when the low side is below fat burning. You stated that a fit persons metabalism would be higher than a non-fit person, at least that is the idea. I am going to take a minute to try to explain this even though it is a huge subject and the reason they write books.
The body does not want to burn calories and the body does not have a set metabolic rate. When we lower calorie intake to any amount be it 250 or 1000 calories below our maintenance level, at some point the body will adjust its metabolism to match the calories. If the metabolism slows to a given amount and the body desides there is not enough nutrient for maintenance it will shut down all systems and then use muscle to support itself, effectively reducing the BMR. Now when you zig zag the calories you keep the body believing there will be plenty of supplies of nutrient and it will not shut down and go after muscle mass.
There are 500 different diets and views of weight loss and they all work for a period of time. Unless they are tweaked or adjusted from time to time the system shuts down, muscle mass becomes the food for the body and people gain back all they lost and then some because they end up with less LMM. That is the plain and simple view of a complex subject.
Trish your doing great and the simple math does say that you are losing body fat and retaining muscle mass.

Wow Trish - no I am not looking at your picture, I am looking at your stats:)
A muscle mass gain of 5.32#'s
Body fat loss of 6.82#'s
All during this 12 week program, those are pretty darn impressive changes. The absolute most perfect balance and the hardest there is to hit or maintain is a mass gain/weight loss of 1:1 ration.
I am more than a little impressed:)

Hib...thank you!
Adriana..
Thanks for that great boost!
I am not sure what your goals are.
For me, it was specifically to lose BF while maintaining my weight.
MsFits book will get you started whether you want to bulk first...and then cut. Or like me... start at the cutting phase to lower body fat and increasing LBM.
Since I do not plan to compete, I am not looking to be in single digits with BF. So I will start to slow down with the intense dieting over the next couple of weeks and just maintain.
I don't bother posting my workouts.... but currently I am doing one muscle group a day, one time a week, for about 30 mins.
I follow that with a 20-30 mins HIIT cardio after.
I do my workouts 6x week.
Hope that helps?
Trish

Trish you have shown determination above and beyond, with awsome results that any 20 year old would be proud of.
You may not plan to compete and you probably will not compete in an organized body building comp, but compete you will. Every time you go to the beach or the pool you will compete in the swim suit category and probably make more than one 20 year old feel like they do not qualify. When you go to the gym, you probably stand out and make many of the younger ones try just a little harder.
You do compete and you are a winner - Congratulations :)

I don't understand why people have to get all up in your face when they feel like you're not doing the right thing. As long as you're not losing muscle and still coming down in bodyfat I'd day poopy on them. We are all different there fore we all should not use the same technique!! Good job and keep it up!

No real noticable change this week. I am going to change my lifting routine around next week....it is time for something new. I'm still checking on the different options.
The diet's been good...remaining clean at around 40/35/25. This works best for me, without feeling crazed.
My biggest concern now is ending up looking too lean, especially in the legs. I am thinking of cutting back on cardio for awhile which is only making the legs even leaner. I'd like to see if I can continue with with fat loss thru diet and weights. And just do cardio 3x week. I was doing cardio 6x week.

Is that program geared towards weight loss?
Or does it have a 12 bulk, then a 12 week cut phase?
Could you tell me more about it.
