I just ordered some Pro Complex Gainer from ON. Anyone tried it? I used to take just the regular Pro Complex and I saw a major increase in strength but I stayed the same size. I'm hoping the gainer will help with the extra calories.

99% of weight gainers are crap.

They are full of cheap Maltodextrin, fat, cholesterol, and sugar. Some have Soy protein which increases Estrogen, which is bad for men who want to build muscle.

Revolutionary Nutrition Bionic Edge Mass Builder WAS great until they ruined it recently changing it. It is now called Meal Replacement and it sucks.

The old version had 3.5 grams (that's 3.5 NOT 35) of fat and 35mg of cholesterol per 4 scoop serving.

In the new version (Meal Replacement) the fat has MORE than DOUBLED to 10 grams, and the cholesterol has almost TRIPLED to a DANGEROUS,HEART CLOGGING 120 GRAMS ! per 4 scoop serving.

Additionally, the fiber in the old version had 6 grams per 4 scoops, and now has 15 for just ONE serving ! I want to GAIN size, not CRAP IT OUT with too much FIBER !

What I don't understand is how the nutrition values got so bad when the ingredients look to be the same as was in the previously named Bionic Edge Mass Builder. Lower grade of Whey maybe?

Their ratings of their products are misleading too in that they remove any negative ones within a day or two of being posted, falsely inflating the rating of the item.

It's too bad, because the Bionic Edge Mass Builder was the best product of it's kind before they recently RUINED it.

I'll second this one but be careful not to go overboard because pretty much anything you gain over 1 lb/week is going to be fat. And that's at best.

I liked that it was low sugar too. And the vanilla custard flavor was awesome. :D

Weight gainer for me has been 100% Pro Amino by Healthy n' Fit with a tablespoon of peanut butter, I used to add oatmeal but it would bloat me like a cow.

Personally, from one hard gainer to another I think 'weight gainers' are a waste of money. Do they work, yes obviously because they have macros and that's what you need to gain weight.. Certain amount of cals throughout the day, carbs after a workout, slow digesting carbs throughout the day, fast digesting carbs in the morning, etc. So YES, they work but so does food. I say food works better and you can get a lot more food (per serving) than you can for mass gainers. Anyways, my advice is to research what whole foods to eat and when, get a nutrition plan to follow and keep working on it and you'll get it pinpointed down someday to what your body needs to grow.

Now as far as weight gaining powders go, if you really want to go that route, I have used almost every kind.. MonsterMilk, ON Serious Mass, ON Pro Complex, Real Mass, True Mass, MuscleJuice, Mutant Mass, Dymatize Mass Gainer, Higher Power Mass. YOU NAME IT I'VE TRIED IT! The key is to know how much to take, supplement companies will ALWAYS put a little more than what your body needs as the "suggested use" of course because the more you use the faster it goes buh-bye and the more you need to buy... The more money THEY make https://fitnessgalore.info/fitness/upload/34/b/happy.gifHaha so like I said, play around with it until you find out what works for you, I'd think a 3,500 calorie diet should do fine and as far as powders go I singled it down to two gainers that I swear by.. if I must. This is completely unbiased, Optimum Nutrition's Pro Complex weight gainer is very solid I used just under a scoop a serving and seen good results (Along with a solid nutrition plan of course) and also RealMass by Gaspari was good and helped me out when I couldn't get enough food into that meal. Also, I used the Chocolate flavor for both and both were extremely appetizing! Hope this helps some!

Good advice. I find one of the most important things I look for in a weight gainer (aside from the calories and macro breakdown) is it's taste. if i can't stand the taste what's the point, i'll likely not use it as often

Personally I'd rather blend up my own, but if forced to buy one I'd choose MHP's Up Your Mass, cinnabun flavor. Taste is AMAZING, carbs are from oats/barley/etc.. Not sugar, maltodextrin. I'm aware the main source of protein is
Soy, which is why I'd rather make my own, but I also don't buy into the whole soy increasing estrogen crap that flys around. I'd just prefer whey, casein, or egg, because of it's higher BV.

Yea I've found the best way to pack on weight is just to eat more, even if you just add 100 calories to all 6-7 of your meals that will give you a decent jump in calories. If your diet is lacking the weight gainer won't do to much.

I'd agree with up your mass it has a whole lot less cholesterol.

Problem with up your mass is the protein is mainly soy, they have the best carbs though actual complex carbs. Not so good protein, otherwise would be an amazing product.

I have tried 3 different weight gainers. GNC Massxxx, ON Serious Mass, and Allmax's Quickmass. They were all effective but Quickmass was by far the best one. Mixes very well, the cookies and cream tastes great, and the quality is unbelievable. This shake adds an easy 1000+ calories to my everyday diet and I always look forward to drinking it because it tastes so good.

In the last 4 years I used this product with many clients in muscle-gain and it works really well; not all the extra weight was lean muscles but in off season is a great supplement to have great results as strenght and muscles's size. I agree muscletech has good products, but way too overpriced IMO. Other options out there that are just as good for less $$

When I was playing Puck,

believe it or not our trainer asked us to eat like dogs for 1 week of the season (start of the season obvi)

So he could kick our asses in practice and make us realize what he would do if he caught us eating like that throughout the season / how it feels.

Anyways, a bunch of the grocery sticks were taking Universal Real Gains i think its called, while eating a triple baconator and fries etc

One guy got hooked and ate for 3 weeks, gained a good 20lbs +/-

(while playing ice hockey and going to the gym)

5 days of the week

Let me try to educate everyone:

99% of weight gainers are crap.

Most weight gainers are full of cheap Maltodextrin, fat, cholesterol, and sugar. Some have Soy protein which increases Estrogen, which is bad for men who want to build muscle.

Now Revolutionary Nutrition Bionic Edge Mass Builder WAS great until they ruined it recently changing it. It is now called Meal Replacement and it sucks.

The old version had 3.5 grams (that's 3.5 NOT 35) of fat and 35mg of cholesterol per 4 scoop serving. No soy, no sugars, only stevia (a plant) for sweetener, and the Chocolate Ice Cream tasted great. Even when mixed in water. The carbs were Oats and Sweet Potato so they were low glycemic, which is a good thing.

Unfortunately the company replaced this product with the crappy "Meal Replacement" so it would appeal to women as well as men without the words "Mass Builder" in the product. Thing is they INCREASED the fat to 10 grams which MORE than DOUBLES the fat content.

More alarming about BEMB is the cholesterol was almost QUADRUPLED to a DANGEROUS, HEART CLOGGING 120 GRAMS ! per 4 scoop serving. The old, good version only had 35mg. Sorry, but if you guys are getting big with tons of Cholesterol, fat and sugar, you will screw up your heart and health over time. You get enough cholesterol, fat, and sugars in your regular everyday foods. You should be using a weight gainer (as I was) to add to your meals but you want that supplement to be HEALTHY.

When will manufacturers get that?

As for fiber, it's a good thing. I have read that eating too much will cause you to not absorb the nutrients you just took in if you eat too much as you do not give your system time to process things (I read that and am not saying it as fact). I do know if I want to gain size, I sure as heck don't want to be running to the bathroom to have a BM not long after. That makes you LOSE weight.

The old version of BEMB had 6 grams of fiber per 4 scoops. Fine. The new version has 24 for just ONE serving ! Again I want to GAIN size, not have contractions and run to the bathroom an hour later.

UP your Mass would be perfect if they ditched the Soy and maybe lessened the fiber a bit. The soy is the deal breaker for me.

I would like to find a weight gainer/meal replacement that has low cholesterol, low sat fat, little or no sugar, and no soy. It can and has been done, and none of us should accept the crap being sold.

I been reading most of these posts. But have they tryed these products them self? Well when I look at a weight gainer I start with the protien, calories, and sugar then the rest. Serious mass, True mass, monster mass, pro complex gainer,up your mass, musle tech, and elite mass. These are all the products I sampled my self. I say flavor wise pro complex, elite mass, and monster mass take the gold my over all supplement gainer I prefer EIITE MASS low in fat high in calories. Good serving size taste good really low in sugar not pricey. I went from 145 to 170 3month with good diet plan intense work out 3 to 5 times a week stack with size on

Russian Bear is by far my favorite weight gainer.https://fitnessgalore.info/fitness/upload/34/b/happy.gif You have to put 5 scoops into a gallon of milk and drink it throughout the day. Its hard work, but if your looking to gain weight then try it. Definitely one of my favorites

This product has worked well for me. First gainer I've used besides the GNC Mass XXX. I have gained a solid 5 pounds of muscle, no fat whatsoever, but then again I can't gain fat. I am going to try cytogainer next to see which one I like better. The taste is pretty good btw. I had double chocolate.
Just wondering when and how often you took the gainer? Just purchased some myself and wanting to hear what worked best with you. Sounds like it worked well. Thanks

If you had to pick just ONE weight gainer (protein powder), what would be the best one?

Please pick product and include the brand. Give your reasons. The best answers will be displayed on the main Bodybuilding.com site for millions of people to see!

(Note: This is not a discussion about how or when to take weight gainers, if you should take weight gainers, or why some weight gainers are NOT good. Just list your absolute favorite weight gainer and give your detailed reason.)

Iv used Universal Real Gains. It was pretty good a nice protein, carbs, sugar ratio. I'm now using Russian bear. Iv heard good things on Russian bear. So well see but right now real gains is the best

I heard something about masstech by muscletech being alright. I had a question about mass gainers though. I'm kinda lanky, (athletically lanky- if there is such a thing.) I'm around 6-7 ,203 pounds I play all sorts of sports competitively. I have some belly fat that I'm losing which I'm trying to do, but my main thing is to get bigger arms, legs and chest. I was wondering what would be best, to lose the belly fat than use the mass gainer or just use the mass gainer and incorporate more cardio to get lean.

Iso mass xtreme gainer is without a doubt the best. The ingredient profule is almost unreal. Not only does it have 65to g of whey protein isolate/caseins to fees muscle all day but it has 7ghigher of 6the different tyes of creatine, complex carbs, vitamins and minerals, nitric oxide for better nutrient delevery, bcaas, huge calories, and kre alkalyn to increase the bodies natural creatine production. This helped me gain around 45lbs of muscle along with a good diet. There are no fillers like in many other weight gainers and not a lot of sugar either. This gains muscle weight not fat weight its basically an all in one body builsing supplement!!!

I've had great luck with Up Your Mass, Universal Real Gains, and Dymatize's Elite Mass Gainer

I've had a shake a day for an extra 600-800 calories (as my body still isn't used to 3400 calories of whole foods), and it really hits the spot! They all taste different, but some days I'll actually crave one over the others! Up Your Mass is usually a bit grittier, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Gotta love them oats!

Hey guys, just curious. I'm taking dymatize elite mass gainer and it days to take 1/2 serving (2 scoops) 2-3 timesdaily because it is so concentrated. I've been taking it twice daily - upon waking up and at bedtime. Is it okay to take one serving at once or just stick with twice a day? Also, for ppl on the weight gainers, u guys r also using whey protein as well, right? Or is ur weight gainer ur primary supplemental source of protein? (i.e. taking it before and after the gym)

I would have to say it depends if you want overall mass or you want some leaner gains. Personally for leaner gains I have used Dymatize Elite Mass (vanilla) to get me from 130lbs up to my current 155lbs and managed to stay fairly lean in that process. With 600 calories, 77g of carbs with less than 1g of sugar, 55g of protein and 6g of fat with only 1g being saturated fat it has one of the better profiles for leaner gains IMO.. Plus a 10lb bag only costs $60, the taste is amazing and it mixes great. I personally mixed with water

Hi I'm a 19 y/o female ectomorph, 5ft tall weighing at only 70lbs! I need to gain weight before I start building some muscles to look slightly bigger. I mean I need to have some fat too! I have started on some lower body workouts including squats, calf raises and lunges twice every week to thicken my stringy thighs. I eat 3 plates of rice everyday with some meat and a little veggie.

What is the best affordable weight gainer to help me put on weight fast? Help? I need to gain at least 18 - 25lbs!

P/s: I've never gone beyond 70lbs at the moment. Sucks. My weight just basically never goes down nor up. Its just stays.

McDonalds, Wendy's, Burger King, etc.

Use the stickys in the nutritional section to help you calculate your caloric needs so you can guarantee that you gain weight by going above the maintenance number.

And I know exactly what you mean, I have a girl friend who is 5'7'' & 105. She eats all the time but just doesn't seem to gain. But if you use the formulas to calculate calories and then count calories, it's fool-proof.

Ive tried N Large,Universal Nutrition's real gains and Dymatize's super mass...now you gotta look at the srving size of each of these cause all 3 are different.N large is 4 scoops with a pretty universal size scoop that comes in most powders, same with the real gains which is 3.5 scoops, now the dymatize is only 2 scoops but one scoop is literaly the equivelant to 1cup.so a serving size is literaly 2 cups of powder.i put on the most weight with Dymatize but it was killin me to consume that much at once and i honestly dont like having to cut the servings in half cause whats the ****in point it just drops the calorie intake and protein intake when i want as much of both at one sitting so i actualy GAIN weight, in reality i prolly coulda got the same results by doubling the N large or Real gains and not sacrafice calorie or protein intake by splitting up the servings.also if i double the servings on Nlarge or real gains id get the same amount of calories as Dymatize and your protein would be 100gr so all in all just pay attention to serving sizes.I think my next purchase will be Nlarge or Real gains and just have two servings throughout the day,id get 1200 calories and 100gr protein each day.even taking two servings a day you wouldnt spend any more money than you would on Dymatize.

For budget reasons, i decided to make my own. Standard, 2 servings of whey, peanut butter, whole milk, banana, 2/3rds cup of oats. Before i decided that route, i was looking hard into Pro Complex Gainer and Real Gains.

My metabolism has **** the bed so I have to be careful of what kind of shakes I put in my body. Can the typical weight gainers also make you fat?

If you had to pick just ONE weight gainer (protein powder), what would be the best one?

Please pick product and include the brand. Give your reasons. The best answers will be displayed on the main Bodybuilding.com site for millions of people to see!

(Note: This is not a discussion about how or when to take weight gainers, if you should take weight gainers, or why some weight gainers are NOT good. Just list your absolute favorite weight gainer and give your detailed reason.)

Vitol:
Russian Bear 5000 Weight Gainer

4 Lbs Ice Cream Vanilla

Uhhmm I don't take a weight gainer yet so I can't help you there. I DO know that 2800 calories is not much...at all. Eat more, don't waste your money on a special mass gainer that won't do anything for you right now.

Hi, I'm 17 years old, slightly under 6 foot 2 inches and i weigh 126lbs (yes im pretty skinny) Im wondering a really good mass gainer to choose? I really don't have a clue. Currently, my eating habits are pretty bad, I eat quite a lot of food, mostly unhealthy food, but I have an extremely high metabolism.

My friend was on a brand called "precision engineered" i think. (search the holland and barret website) and he said it wasn't bad. What have you guys heard about it? It seems rather cheap though?

Has anyone heard of Mutant Mass? 4 scoops (260g) = 1 serving in water gives you 1060cal and 52g protein. Has MCTs, BCAA's, waxy maize and amino acids. Chocolate tastes awesome and does not lump at all when mixed. You can bump up the cals with milk but will get thicker.

Mutant Mass tastes very good, but I don't like soy protein. I prefer other options

are gainers just protein with less protein content? if you take 5-6 scoops of whey protein to meet the gainer serving size, the caloric count is roughly the same. so i can understand just taking a whole lot more of a supplement without having to pay more for the protein.

i'm looking at ON Serious Mass and Pro Complex Gainer but will probably try the latter since it doesn't have creatine and i'm worried I might get too fat (although I could perhaps take half a serving of Serious Mass?). Anyone tried both of these?

Not all calories are created equal. If your trying to gain lean size you should be eating 30-40 G protein , 40-80 carbs, 5-20g healthy fat a meal. Most gainer shakes have the profile similar to you eat a big flank steak and a cup of rice. If you'd eat that meal 4-6 times a day and hit the iron hard you'd be jackd

2:1:1 recovery from opti has always been a great tastin clean leaner gainer.

A little trick to get more out of your gainer (cause most are only 10-14 servings) mix 1-2 scoops gainer with 1-2 scoops whey.

Protien bars are the best weight gainers! Especially for the Ectomorph body types. But, yes do start a poll!

I had a lot of success with Twinlab's Mass Fuel Extreme. It's a great price, tasted decent and gave me good results. My last bulk I used this powder exclusively and gained around 20lbs and increased all my lifts 15-25 lbs.

Yes. Weight gainers are essentially the same as any other protein shake, but with a bunch of added carbs to quickly boost your caloric intake. For example, I'm looking at the nutrition info for ON Serious Mass right now, and it contains 1250 calories, 252 carbs, 20g sugar and 50 g protein. If you are at all concerned about your metabolism, I would not take a weight gainer like this. Focus on getting the extra protein that your muscles need from shakes and it's easy to get quality nutrient rich carb and fat sources from your food.

I was wondering if anyone could answer a few questions on body building as a whole? Mainly about supplements?

what effects are caused by taking supplements can do to the body. Looking at if it will affect any muscles, bones or joints?

if the profession was stopped or any reason how would that affect the body and diet (stretched skin or muscles shrinking)?

if the wrong amount of supplements were consumed, long term and short term?

list what supplements are on the market that is available to the public and what they are used for?

doing it as a topic in my HND sports course, would be brilliant thanks

I've been taking GNC's Re-Built Mass. I've always been a hard gainer and on top of that I like to eat a lot of lean foods. The 850 calories, 60g of whey protein, 10g of fat, and 130g of carbs help me meet my macros. Plus it has 10g of creatine to both help recovery and add to mass. It is expensive though. Over the summer when I'm not taking classes I usually stick to just whey. I have more time to eat other foods.

Hello
Is there any really delicious high carb/low prot gainer? Need it for flavoring a pure milk protein (MPC85 by German manufacturer Rovita), which is widely available here in Russia for about 20 bucks per kilo.
I can get Gaspari's RM probiotic from local seller reasonably priced (twice more expensive than on bb.com tough =)), but there're too many complains on taste.. So is it any good? And of course other options are welcomed.

Dymatize Elite MASS was a good one. I since have moved away from Gainers due to that stuff feels like a lead weight when consuming it. I just use a good protein and mix in some Optimum Nutrition Glyco-Maize for added calories and carbs. it seems to be cheaper as well in the long run.

Noob question on weight gainers. I just started my cutting phase, and if I was to take half of the manufacturer's recommended dose for weight gainers post workout could that help maintain or build additional mass? Or is it just going to negate any cutting I am trying to achieve? Currently post workout I take 2 scoops AMP Whey, 1 scoop Mono Creatine, and 1 scoop BCAA's. Could someone please help me with my question?

EDIT: The weight gainer in question is CytoSport Monster Mass
