I congratulate you on your weight gain Jamie :) I'm a little concerned, however, by your comment that you don't actually have any more weight to gain. I can't see how that can be correct - you are clearly underweight and your body fat is far too low to be healthy. Are you menstruating every month? While it might be nice to have abs and striations now, osteoporosis at the age of 20 won't look quite so pretty...

abs and striations are a competition thing and in my opinion stay around competition time. i don't feel it is possible to make the muscular gains and development you need without fuelling your body enough so to do this. your gains are good so far but more needs to be gained in my opinion

Oh, no, I didn't mean for it to come across that way. I just wanted to say that I have met my short term goal. I think the way I'd like to work it is gain some weight then refine the muscle. Gain some more, make more muscle.
However, because I can't actually see what's in the mirror, I am worried that it might get to the point where I don't know when to stop. That's why having a clear, NUMBER (lb) goal was helpful - because I was looking at the scale, not the mirror. But you have to understand the it actually hurt physically to gain the weight. Sleepless nights, distended bellies, (gas...shh...)...so I need to give my body a bit of a break before I take a go at it again
ZB - Thank you for your opinions. As a fellow competitor (judging by your avi) I know you can appreciate how good it feels to have the abs and straitions. But on the other hand, I understand that they will only get bigger and better as I get bigger and better :) And my body DEFINITELY gets fueled enough
Miss carrie - Hi hi! Drop in anytime. I do weighted ab excercises for my obliques, but not my rectus/transverse abodminus. I don't know why...hmm..I guess I don't want them popping out the front, just the side. I always liked the look of a shredded serratus.

Am I DDE ?
:p
Ya!
So I just got another anatomy exam back. 60%. damn. I thought I did a little better. And that's 1% less than my last one. I realllllly have to do well on my final. On a happer note, I got an 83% on my cat dissection :) And that's worth the same amount as my midterm, so I'm averaging a low 70 now. That I am content with.
Got a long night of studying ahead of me. Not to mention, I have to write an essay comparing the Gospel of John movie to the Gospel of John...gospel. Not so easy considering my background is in the OLD testament, not the NEW one. poo. It'll get done though...always does.
In regards to the sleeping (or lack thereof), I have a dr appointment tomorrow, and hopefully he'll be able to diagnose or perscribe something. I tried my own remedy last night...wasn't so effective. Let's just say, well, it was counterproductive because it actually kept me up (I got the munchies *wink wink* HINT :)) rather than putting me to sleep like I thought it would. So that rules THAT out...it wouldn't been too expensive for me to continue with anyway, LOL ;)

Went to the doctor today...big help that was. All he ever does is ask if I'm eating, doesn't wait for an answer, then tells me to eat more. When I explained to him the problem that I eat in the middle of the night and can't stop, his very appropriate response was
"So then don't"
"It's not like I ENJOY waking up, or want to"
"So then why do you?"
"It's just..automatic?"
"Well, the only thing I suggest is to not look at the clock when you wake up, and don't eat, your body will think it's morning."
THANKS DOC! poo. So...I don't know. Maybe I should just use the sleeping pills the other doc gave me. Or..get rid of all the food in my house? :) OK, not!
On a better note: Things are progressing rather nicely with the boy from the gym. Today, he let me feel his lats (UNDER THE SHIRT!) and lifted up his shorts to show me his vastus medialis :) I think we may actually do something OUT of school soon (we see each other, purposely, every day now)
Also, tomorrow, my mom is speaking in front of the House of Commons (the provincial parliament in Ontario) on behalf of the Ontario Human Rights Commission. I'm so proud of her..THE WHOLE ONTARIO GOVERNMENT has to shut up for 30 minutes and listen to my mom

Great minds think alike Lou, but, ya, it doesn't work :) and is more expensive than cottage cheese and/or turkey. Did your bf/you try it? It gets expensive!
Bad note: The whole "don't look at your clock thing" didn't work. I just woke up, didn't know what time it was, ate and went back to bed. WHAT A B^#*$! I really hope this doesn't happen come exam time. I'm trying a new method that I learned from players in the NBA. It's called behaviour modification therapy. They put an elastic band on their wrist. When they miss a fould shot, they snap it. It kind of teaches them, mentally and physically, that when you miss a foul shot...NOT GOOD! So I am wearing an elastic on my wrist, and if/when I wake up, I'm gonna snap it. Maybe that's weird. If it hurts, I'm going to stop.
Good note: MOM WAS ON T.V.! Hells ya! So proud!
Great note: Boy + me = ALMOST official. I don't know what he's waiting for...:(
Training (only pm):
Dumbell Incline press
Intensive set: 25 x 12 x 1
Dumbell flye:
Pyramid (I've decided to start with the heavier weights and work down rather than vice versa...and I already noticed a strength gain): 40 x 3 x 1, 35 x 6 x 1, 30 x 9 x 1, 25 x 12 x 1
Exaustive set: 8 x 25 x 9
Chest press machine:
Pyramid: 90 x 3 x 1, 80 x 6 x 1, 70 x 9 x 1, 60 x 12 x 1
Exaustive set: 40 x 25 x 9
So I set a personal best with the flyes :) Woot!

Thanks Tara, Lewie and Emunah - I heart you all!
Well, the snapping of the bands didn't work. And if someone were watching me, I'm sure I would have looked QUITE stupid snapping the rightband WHILE eating 1/2 kilo of ground turkey with bbq sauce.
(As per Lewie's request, I have given up the am training, and am putting 120% into the pm training). I'm going to work two body parts per day, 5 days a week. Or something...I'm also going to do my own thing for now, no set training regimine. Just lift as heavy as possible :) WOOT!
Training:
Side lateral raises - 25 x 7 x 3
Incline dumbell curls - 25 x 8 x 3
Arnold press - 20 x 12 x 1, 20 x 8 x 2
Hammer curls - 25 x 3 x 1, 20 x 8 x 2
Reverse delt raise - 30 x 10 x 1, 30 x 8 x 2

I had my appt at the university today. Met with the dietician and psychologist. The dietician told me that my average calories for last week (they make me record two weekdays and one weekend day worth of food each week) was around 3400!!! She said I had 3000 one day, 3300 another and 3800 on the weekend! Holy doddle! She said I was averaging 345 g carbs, 96 g fat and 360 g protein. Whoa.
whoa.
I shouldn't have done off keto, lol. Too bad I promised I wouldn't weigh myself. There's NO WAY I couldn't have made more progress with numbers like that. Oh well, it'll just have to wait until after exams.
GREAT DAY!!! I skipped a class to hang out with my boy. We worked out together (he maxed out the stack on tricep pushdowns! He's so strong..*j-me ogles dreamily*), then ate together then played pool til I went downtown.
GREAT DAY!!! The York U. track centre is closed, to all the athletes who normally train there had to use the regular gym. And guess who I alternated training sets with on the seated calf raise? Ben Johnson! Yes! The fastest man in the world in the late 80's/early 90's was training on MY GYM! And we trained calves together. And his coach and I talked about cardio, mirrors in gym and functional training. It was sooooo unbelievable. What an expercience.
Training:
Hyperextensions: bodyweight x 6 sets
Bent over barbell row: 40 x 12 x 3
Dumbell squats: 25 x 12 x 3
Leg press: 230 x 8 x 2, 170 x 14 x 1 <-- Personal best!
T-bar row: 30 x 8 x 3
Close grip lat pull down: 92.5 x 8 x 3
This heavy training is making me feel so much better about myself. My strength has increased exponentially I love it!

Nope, no measurement change. Maybe 0.5 inch somewhere, 0.25 others...but I would say it's negligable. My mom notices a difference in my face, she says it's rounder. One of the competitors I saw a few weekends ago also noticed a chance in my face from the competition days
Maybe it all went to my cheeks, lol

Well, remember muscle is pretty dense. It takes a LOT to change measurements.... AND, being so underweight, some of it is probably organ repair, and you won't see that.

Emunah - that's what a friend told me.
But here's another theory. They say for every 10 lbs, you add 1 inch to your arms. Well, then 20 lbs = 2 inches...but instead of my arms,it went to my waist.
Feasible?
LewieS
11-20-2006, 08:14 AM
Hey hottie!! :)
I know I'm not emunah but I don't think your whole arm:waist thing is feasible .. think about it. When people gain those 10lbs, yes an inch could be added to their arms .. but all that 10lbs didn't go directly to said person's arms! Some of it also went other places .. if this wasn't the case, alot of people would have MUCH bigger arms..
In your case, the 20lbs probably went to (as others have already said) : things you aren't going to see such as Organ repair, water & glycogen storage (correct me if I'm wrong but more muscle = the bodies ability to improve and increase the amount of glycogen storage). And then the things that your can see, your waist/face.
Remember what I told you? That when someone severly underweight starts to gain weight (and this applies espically in your case as you put on the 20lbs fairly quickly) alot of it will go to the stomach. It's the bodies way of protecting the heart.
So basically all the 20lbs went to your body recovering/repairing itself + a bit of fat. Don't worry about it though, your going to reach a certain point soon where if you continue to gain the weight your going to notice increases elsewhere!! (ps I think it's a good idea that your just trying to maintain right now, let your body adjust to all the changes it just underwent ..)
Everythings looking great in here BTW! So glad you stoped the pm/am stuff :)
Hope you had a great day!

To quote what I wrote to a friend recently about gaining weight when coming from a very underweight state:
the first few pounds are probably been a mixture of general substances/tissue weight – eg: intestinal bulk, general organ increases (repair of intestines, liver, etc etc), increased body water (via increased vascular pool, increased muscle glycogen, increased liver glucose) along with a bit muscle and fat… Spread that over ‘you’ and you don’t have an awful lot in any one place!
You can also read these - basically me saying the same thing to a number of other in a similar situation as you are... Which is that, after an insult such as low weight/ fat - the body is stressed (cortisol is high) and it tries to 'protect itself' by distributing fat in the more metabolically active sites (that is - abdomen/ love handles)... It doesn't particularly care about huge biceps at this stage... It just wants to be prepared for next time you hit a famine..
It will redistribute - but it will take a little time.

Emma - Thank you so much for those links. They were extremely helpfu. So at approximately what stage will my body start to care about huge biceps and a big quad sweep? :)
Sorry I haven't been around lately. School work is keeping me miiiiiighty busy. Exam and exam after midterm after essay. IT DOESN'T END! Boo-rns. I barely have enough time for...I don't even remember what it was I did for fun before I had to work 24/7 :( Lol, I'm just kidding, there's time for boys...I mean fun.
Just got a 70 in sport psych, I'm pretty happy. I'm averaging about a mid 70's now. That means that if I apply, chances are I will get into the Kinesiology stream that allows you to become a LICENCED(!!) personal trainer after you graduate. The way it works in Canada is that you get certified (I have that now) --> Registered --> Licenced. So the program I want to get into will licence me. $$$$ YA!

Emma - Thank you so much for those links. They were extremely helpfu. So at approximately what stage will my body start to care about huge biceps and a big quad sweep? :)
Varies...
In terms of BF - usually at least > 12% for females... For some it is up nearer to 15% (especially if coming from a very low weight).
In terms of weight - A BMI of 16 is considered the cut off for anorexia and the point at which partitioning some what improves. Most cacasians are required to get to around 18 before they are 'out of the seriously stress zone'.
But, as I said, it varies... And if your body is still stressed (eg: excessive exercise, high cortisol, low leptin, poor diet.... etc etc) or if your genetics just suck, then it may take longer.
Of course - if you have hyperthyroidism, then your body is not going to recover well either!! You will be basically burning off/ breaking down your muscle faster than you can build it - so your partitioning ratio is going to suck even when you do get over that critial weight/ bodyfat level.
And - anyway - I don't think you should get 'too technical' about any of this stuff. Just EAT!!
ps: congratulations on all the good stuff in your life at the moment (boys, grades etc). Sounds like things are all going really well! :D

Though it doesn't look like the bf is going to hit 15% any time soon. :( I mean, 20 lbs and only 1% bf gain...that's going to me quite a lot of lbs. We'll see though. Again, thanks for the bottomless pit of knowledge you impart.
I get my first paycheck from the study next week! I'm so excited! That $600 in the bank baby! Unfortunately, that's also 2/3 of my rent for next month, so I actually don't end up with anything. But it will be nice to have the money in the meantime! :) In the next 2 weeks they need me three times:
1) Thurs - RMR (AGAIN!!!), Blood test, surveys
2) Fri - Urine drop off, meet with the MD (I get the results of the 1st dexa scan back), dietician, psychologist
3) Wed - DEXA scan
They keep feeding me (14 Powerbars per week...though I end up giving a lot to my friends, and just having the extra 440 cals through cookies or ice cream or something) so I put up with their shenanigans :)

Didn't really do much in the gym today, it was a repeat of Tuesday's exercises, but I just used whatever weight I could handle for 12 reps x 3 sets. It was a lazy day. I did however spend part of the afternoon with the boy. We went for lunch, and he had his arm around me a lot (which is new for us). I made sure to lean into his shoulder when he did so that he'd know that I approved of this action :)
I went home last nighgt at 12:30. At 11:45, I called my mom and told her I couldn't sleep. She suggested I try sleeping in my old bed for a night. Well...I guess you could say it went well. I should preface this by saying that after I stopped keto, I subsequently removed the foods I would carb-up with from my apartment, and put them in my parent's freezer. Well, who would have though then at 12:30 at night, I'd go down there, and come back up with 5 protein bars, 3 bags of popcorn and 6 cookies. I ate them all talkin with my mom at our dining room table.
I don't feel so hot. :( Today, I had tons of ice cream (peanut butter and cafe caramel), lots of chicken shwarma and some protein powder.
It came to 3248 cals, 411 g protein...but I don't know the rest of the macros. I got in the habit of eating this much when I was on keto, but now it's like...I'm making myself sick (not literally!!!). I don't know what to do

Hey Jaime. I'm sorry you're not feeling good. I'm glad that things are going well in the romance dept. though! ;) Have a great weekend!
Thanks Tara :) I appreciate it.
I've had a pretty good weekend so far. I got together last night with my ex, and it was actually great to see him again. We hadn't spoken a whole lot since the break up, but he decided to give me a call since he was in for the weekend. We just talked for hours until we were kicked out of the coffee shop. Then, he took me home. It was sweet. Hopefully, we'll see each other again, and talk a lot more on the phone/MSN now that we're on good terms.
I spent the day doing domestic stuff around the apartment and a lot of studying. It doesn't end. I have a mid term on Monday, and then an exam in that course 9 days later!!! I don't understand the prof's reasoning. Oh well.
So...bit of an issue this evening: Dysmorphia hit me...full force. I thought my 20 lbs was really good. I was quite happy with it...even...elated with the added poundage :) Granted, I couldn't notice a huge change in my physique, I just figured the numbers spoke for themselves, and other people could see the changes that I couldn't. However, I was looking at one of my friend's stats. They're about an inch taller, but 20 lbs heavier. And they know that they're thin. My problem lies in the fact that I thought that after my weight gain, I could slow it down for a while because I have a (somewhat) normal, female physique.
But if I'm a female, single digit bodyfat, 20 lbs lighter than this male and HE'S skinny...then everything I thought about how I now look is thrown out of whack. I don't know how I should see myself. If 138, 10% bodyfat is thin, then what the frig do I look like? :*(
I'm sorry for being such a downer you guys, especially on a Saturday night. Believe me, I, more than anyone, wish I didn't feel like this.

I know it's tough Jaime..you still are VERY thin hon and you need to gain more. I know that you know this and I have the same problem. I keep thinking that I'm looking way bigger, but then people say they can't even tell a difference!

I love how we can relate to each other (and lots of other women on this board). I love this little community.
As you can appreciate, it would be so easy to continue gaining if we could see the fruits of our labour (other than on the scale). Whether it's through the comments of others or the mirror. It would be nice to see the final product what all that hard work went in to.
Are you ever worried that because you can't see yourself, you won't know when "it's enough"? I just started getting these feelings...

I definitely get those feelings! That's why I'm going to keep charting progress and posting pics. I know that I can't count on Drew, b/c he would love to see me just keep on gaining and he would NEVER tell me it was too much, even if he thought so!

Arg Jaime!! Don't get yourself down!! Be proud about those 20lbs ! You should be EXTREMELY happy with yourself!
I don't know, you've only been trying to gain weight for the past how many years? And now you've finally have! But your still depressed? Be proud of all your accomplishments up to date, don't let this get to you.
Also take in fact that this male friend of yours ( ;) ) is well .. a male. So he naturally will weigh more than you due to things such as bone density. And then add on top of it that he's big boned throughout the rib/chest area, that = more pounds. Oh and he's also taller by two iches (5'9 now) so once again naturally going to weigh more..
But even with all that, yes your still very thin. But do you want to know what matters? Is that your not AS thin as you were. That you put so much effort in these past few months and IT does show, so hold your head up high Girl :)
As for what to do now? .. Well personally If I were you, even knowing that I still looked very thin, I would try and hold your current weight for a while. 20lbs in that time frame is alot, and you should just let your body 'adapt' to the changes so to speak .. just hold that weight for a bit, and let your body start to redistribute some of the weight you put on your tummy to other areas of your body. Obviously not all of it is going to redistribute since your still so thin, but some of it should start .. and after it does you can focus on putting some more weight on.
Baby steps Jaime <3 - Your going to do it, your one hell of a women and I know you can do this, and anytime you think your falling behind or slipping, know that were here to support you to get you back on your feet.
Love ya <3
PS - Just remember .. X-MAS BREAK IS SO SOON! Your going to have over a month off of school to just RELAX!!!
Double PS - Yes e-mail tomorrow night!

Cals for yesterday:
3304 and 475 g protein...That's the only thing I kept track of.
I had a rough night. ATE SOOOOO much of the food that was in my parent's house (I slept at home last night cuz my superintendant thinks it's winter and has the heat on 24/7...so i sweat all the time in my appt. it's gross :()
6 protein bars, 3 bags of popcorn, lots of cookies and ice cream...essentially, the same things I had on Friday :)
I cheat though...:( I weighed myself last night/this morning. Same as last week...when I said I wouldn't weigh myself. But the weird thing is that:
a) I weighed myself last night (is 12:30 am night or morning?), rather than Sunday morning so i don't know whether I actually LOST weight because the last weighing was in the morning and this one was at night, but the lb was the same
b) I increased cals this week (because I wasn't really keeping track) to about 3200...but didn't increase cardio. Hmm...

Buddy! I've missed you! How far away do your parents live? How often do you visit them?
It's crazy how parents have that effect on you :) It's like my mom PURPOSELY stocks the fridge with all my favourites and it doesn't help that I moved all my "carb-up foods" to my parents house when I moved out...and when I come home, I eat them all...in excess. Boo-rns.
I'm better today...though the sugar alcohols from yesterday are killing my tummy :)

Thanks, and you always wonder if you can trust them (I know that sounds paranoid)...or if they're lying (but why would they lie?!) It messes with your head sometimes.
Cals today:
4 cartons of egg whites (2 I used to meringues, 2 i used for pancakes)
Ice cream, protein bars...the usual :)
3000 or so?
Got an exam tomorrow. I'm stressing it a little. It's worth 25% of my final mark..and the weird thing is that my final exam in this course is 9 days from now! How weird is that? A mid terms 9 days before a final IN THE SAME COURSE! ICK! The good news is, my classes are slowly finishing, one by one, so I think my school ends before the projected Dec.6 date

:(
Hmmm... Why do terrible? :( Didn't gain what you had hoped?
Jaim - Sorry to hear you are having such a rough time with yourself at the moment.... I know you know that I think that you are still too tiny.... (LOL - if you can understand what I just said)... And, eventually - given time - you will come to see this too...
Give it time... You need to allow your brain to 're-map' your body... At the moment it is running off 'memory mapping' - that is, it is still seeing what you USED to see. It is similar to what happens when you walk into a room that has been changed - but you do not notice it right away. Your mind just remember's what it USED to look like - and it makes you think that you are still looking at the old room... So you have to REALLY look HARD and for a LONG time before you see the change (as your brain slowly has to 're-wire' itself)...
You need to 're-wire' your self-image.
That make sense?
ps: if the sugar alcohols do your tummy such trouble why not go for non-false sugar alternatives?? They are much better for you and will not give you the tummy bloat either... :)

Hey Jaim, i'm just reading over your journal while I eat lunch, and I wanted to tell you I like what you're doing, and I like how you've been keeping track. It seems like things are going smoothly.
As for the 20 lbs, I agree with every one else, good job. My first 20 from being a bit underweight came really easy. The rest hasn't come less smoothly, but i've had to keep eating more and more!
Any way I love your diet. I eat similar, but more carbs :D
Good luck.

Yesterday was great. I had my midterm and think I did exceptionally considering that 65% of the questions on the exam were on the practice exam he posted online for our class. He's either very stupid or very lazy. Either way, I benefitted.
I also hit ANOTHER pb yesterday in leg press. 235 for 5 reps!!! No, this may or may not have been because the boy was standing in front of the leg press (and he may or may not have been looking in my shorts...I DID NOT JUST SAY THAT!!!)
Training:
Dumbell Squats - 25 x 12 x 3
Barbell Deadlift - 50 x 12 x 3
Leg press - 230 x 8 x 1, 235 x 5 x 1, 235 x 4 x 1 <-- WOO!
Seated leg curl - 110 x 14 x 1, 120 x 9 x 1, 125 x 4 x 1
Seated calf raise - 55 x 30 x 4 <-- My calves only respond to high reps

I should also mention je suis not feeling to well today :(
Today is the first day I'm not training on a weekday and thus...I'm not seeing him. I feel like poo.
The people at the study told me to ease up on the caffeine (ie. DON'T HAVE ANY!) So I stopped cold turkey as of yesterday evening. BIG MISTAKE! Since then, I've been shaking, have a bad headache, woke up this morning drenched in sweat, but I have a really cold body. Me thinks there was some sort of addiction there. I'm going to try and lay off completely for the next 2 weeks or so. I hope I can hold out....I feel like a coke addict...:(

lol, and when you have about 2 L a day of tea/coke/diet coke then not having it all of a sudden WILL take it's toll. Not cool!
On a GREAT note: I got a letter in the mail today from can-fit pro. I got officially certified last week, but I got my practical evaluation back today. I GOT 81%!!! That's HUGE considering their standards (and the fact that my mom - who I used as my client - HAS NEVER EVER EVER worked out).
Woo.
Didn't log cals for today...they were. Maybe 2200? Umm..I ate chicken shwama (2 of them), a doughnut, about 5 cups of Vector cereal, 4 cod fillets...I don't know :) Random other stuff...BUT NO CAFFEINE!

Thanks. Cals get a little lower when I don't have to log them for the study. Because when I don't log, I graze (a lot!!) Or just eat what my friends are eating. But also, I haven't been eating at night.
I still wake up (like that's gonna change soon :(), but I don't eat at night anymore because my dr. said it's like telling your body this is morning and this is breakfast. Also, I'm slowly easing into my maintenance phase (about 2200-2500 cals vs. 2800 - 3000). I'll pick it up on occasion though, don't you worry :)

I went to see fast food nation with my mom last night, it was awesome (the movie and the bonding).
I got to bed around 1 am, then had to wake up at 5 to get to U of T for yet another RMR this morning at 6:45. Then breakfast, then a meeting with the doctor, then filling out more surverys about how I feel towards life, myself, my body, food, parents, etc.
Great news and not so great news:
1) My bone density is higher than normal - in a good way. No signs of osteopenia (the DEXA is a good predictor of that), and everything from wrists to hips to spine is very bone dense :)
2) My bodyfat is a lot lower than the stupid Tanita bodyfat scale at the gym said. I overestimated it. Not good. Then again, they did the scan 7 lbs ago, so may it's gone up since then. Oh well. I don't know what to do.
Because I had a blood test, I couldn't lift today. And because I wasn't at school yesterday, I didn't lift then either. I'M SUFFERING WITHDRAWL!!! I don't work out on weekends (don't want to make the trip all the way up to the uni), so that's 4 days off this week. BOOOOO!!!
Maybe it'll give me more time to study...or something ;)
Cals yesteday:
The usual - anywhere between 2200 - 2550 including varying degress of beef jerky, chicken, shwarma, ice cream and powerpop popcorn.
Oh ya, and I started making my protein cookies with PVL'S chocolate peanut butter flavour powder instead of their vanilla milkshake (ran out). Soooo ofriggin' unbelievable. They have the best flavours!!! Chocolate peanut butter, peanut butter, arctic frappacinno, vanilla milkshake, COOKIES AND CREAM!!! I love them! :)

Jaim your recipes and diet intrigues me hardcore. I make protein waffles ala mode for lunch every day. Yeah I eat a diet, but it really rocks. Clean as a whistle if you research when to eat what.
Did you know ice cream is actually low GCI because it has fats in it?
Frozen yogurt, is not however. This is why you’ve got to have the yogurt within that 3 hour period of when you're working out ;D
You rock

By the way, I quit caffeine for a while. Like 6 months. Then I decided I was happier drinking coffee. Not in excess though, usually just 2 cups with food in the morning. (I'm a pretty broad guy so it takes 2). I think taking it with food is the key, because it keeps it from negatively affecting your stomach.
Good luck.

Did you know that even if it had the highest GI in the whole wide world I would eat it anyway?!?! lol, but i didn't know that, so thanks for the info buddy. And thanks for dropping by
The recipe (p.s. HI SARAH!!)
125G (about 4 scoops) anyflavour protein (but i've only tried vanilla and pb/chocolate)
1/2 cup margarine (optional...makes it more light)
1/2 cup splenda (or for less cals, 1/8 cup sugar twin liquid)
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp baking powder
Had a long talk with the psychiatrist at the study today. About my bodyfat, my dysmorphia and my sleeping patterns (not necessarily all related):
1) Bf - Don't know, physiologically, how it's possible that it didn't go up. Not so happy about it.
2) Dysmorphia - Everyone around me says I look healthier and happier, but other than my waist and face, no measurements have changed. This problem, in the near future, I don't think will go away. Which is why I'm happy in the maintenance phase. Maybe the mirror will stop lying if I stay this way for a while....
3) Sleep - She suggested that I tell myself, when I wake up, that I don't NEED the food to go back to bed...that I can go back to sleep, restfully, without it. She said it may take a while, but I should try it. A little bit of self-talk.
Back to training today, kinda lazy:
Dumbell bench press - 25 x 12 x 3
Dumbell flye - 25 x 12 x 3
Incline press - 25 x 12 x 3
Incline flye - 25 x 12 x 3
Overhead dumbell extension - 60 x 12 x 3
V-bar pressdown - 90 x 12 x 3
Cals:
Protein popcorn, turkey sandwich (LUNCH WITH THE BOY!!!), protein bars, ice cream, protein cookie, chicken skin (my mom ate the meat, i ate the skin...weird...), roughly 2500 cals.

U know, sometimes I think the girls on here worry to much about measurements, and don't take enough joy in what the mirror tells them. If you're looking better, don't worry about it :D
I am sorry to hear you're having sleeping problems. I have had some issues with sleep myself. It may be a sign your body is just really hungry. Are you sure you need to eat maintenence for a while? I mean if you're body is waking you up because you are hungry, maybe it's trying to tell you something.
I try to eat some cottage cheese before bed every night. Might help. Also I think taking creatine helps you sleep.
Your last pics I saw looked great, but you still need to gain more weight it seems to me. Your veins shouldn't be popping out because of a lack of tissue. Why not keep bulking, you deserve it :D

But that's my whole deal. The mirror doesn't tell me anything. I can't see what's actually there. It's not like it lies to me and tells me I'm fat, it's just indifference. I can't notice chances.

Since Feb I was waking up to eat, and it wasn't doing me any good, physically or emotionally. The psych said that it's gotten to the point where I've convinved my body that I can't get back to sleep unless I eat. She said I have to break that pattern.
Your last pics I saw looked great, but you still need to gain more weight it seems to me. Your veins shouldn't be popping out because of a lack of tissue. Why not keep bulking, you deserve it :D
Thank you so much, that means a lot. Unfortunately, it wasn't like I was trying NOT to gain fatty tissue. I hate my veins. I guess I'm just a meso-ecto in that the weight I gain goes straight to muscle. It's not such a bad deal :)
Weekend...last night, nothing really. Watched a movie at my home and studied long and hard for my exam Wednesday. Tonight, my friend is getting out of the hospital during the day, so there's a welcome home party for her tonight that I will definitely be attending. :)
How about you guys? Do you have exams?
OK, bit of a problem...but not really a problem, per se: I have this new mass. And I'm happy with it. Elated even. The problem is, because this is unchartered territory for me, I don't know what to do when it comes time for a competition. I know I don't really have to cut/diet, but I don't have the abs or the definition I used to. I guess what I'm asking for is reccomendations on what to do with "the new me" in regards to my competition training and dieting. I don't have much longer to decide because I'm about 4 months away.
P.S. Social life update: The ex wants a second chance. $hit!

But then I would have to cut for sure. Which I really don't want to do because I've never really been on a diet before. And if I've lost definition as it stands now, then who knows where I'll be now. The dietician also reinforced the maintenance plan. She suggested I let me body get used to this new weight, and let the lbs disperse over my whole body (rather than just my trunk), which she assured me it inevitably will.
I told the ex that it was too hard to make the long distance thing work, but when he comes in for good in April, I'll reevalulate the situation. It's just that the new boy is working sooooo slooooowly...:(
Messly, I endorse competitions. It was bodybuilding that got me out of my scary place (mentally and physically). I saw a FAME competitition and knew that was something I could do. It's rough though, getting up there in front of lots of people, wearing little to nothing, dancing, posing...and it's hard when you're the little-est one on stage. If I were you, I would wait until you're 18. That's when I did my first. The muscular maturity that even 3 more years will give you is better than any diet or training program. Use the time to learn your body (I know that sounds weird). I read that you're 5"11 and 125. You'd want to be AT LEAST 160 at that height to even get noticed on stage. You can pm me anytime :)

I concur with every thing twinnett said.
I'm a meso ecto to, and we really just have to keep at it. I noticed very little change in the first bit of weight i gained, but the next 10 lbs have made me look seriously stronger. Much bigger shoulders, bigger arms and my legs look and feel stronger.
Do what you think is best, but I doubt you need to be thinking about competing in 4 months now. U want to get buff!

It's something to think about, but unfortunately, lol, it's too late. I already signed up. This comp was the reason I gained the weight in the first place, it was my motivation! There's no way i'm not doing it now

no no no, i mean you don't need to think about it now. like don't worry about it b/c it's not for a long time.
I know you want to compete. Just don't forget, your scale is the only thing showing results, but they are positive. Soon if you keep gaining weight your muscles will start getting huge too.

Hi Jaim, I'm working on gaining as well and you have my sympathy, it's a tough thing to do mentally and physically. I never know what I do or should look like, either!

I'm 4" shorter than Messly, but it literally took everything out of me *mentally and physically* to gain the weight. I don't have the patience or the time to wait another half year to gain who knows what :( Considering the mirror issue, my other dilemna is that I wouldn't know how much to gain, and i would definitely have to go on a cutting diet come comp time, which I would rather avoid. :( However, if I step onstage in 4 months, I will have more mass than I did last time, and a little less definition. Even though I am still more defined than "massy".
Cals today:
2500 - Lots of protein bars, ice cream and popcorn, it was just one of those days. Not really in the mood for "real food". Though I did have anniversary cake with my parents and siblings (my parents celebrated 20 years together this weekend).
(start of cheese) I joke with my friends (and sometimes my mom about how monogamy = monotony :)), but I think that's because I'm jealous (Not in the "Electra Complex" way). I'm jealous of those people who have truly found someone that they're GENUINELY and TRULY happy spending the rest of their lives with. Having that person that you always fall back on, your safety net, your best friend, lover, mentor, ass-kicker (when needed) and syour ounding board. That person who will be there and care for you whenever you need it. And you know that they love you too, just as much, if not more. I don't know anyone who wouldn't envy that kind of dedication and passion. I love my parents (end of cheese :))
My good friend is home for good after 2 months in the hospital 3 months in rehab with a torn spinal cord. She's unbelievable. She wheels to and from synagogue every Saturday (3 miles) and can actually move her legs. She can peddle a bike for about 30 minutes at a time. She's looking to get a rowing machine soon as well. She's such an inspiration. She'll actually be coming to school (we're in the same major, she's the one that helped me pass first year kin last year) in January. I'm so excited! I just thought I'd share that with you guys as kind of an inspirational story. This girl was hit and dragged by a car at the beginning of the summer and the doctors said she would never walk again. But now she can bend her knees and legs and peddle a bike. I am in such awe. Kind of makes my problems seem so inconsequential and silly.

Had a great day. I don't think I'm going to see the gym boy until at least the new year. He's gone back to his gym in Brampton. In the mean time, the ex is coming back to Toronto on the 15th. So here's what I'm thinking: if gym boy doesn't contact me between now and the 15th, then I'll know I was only a convenience thing for him, and he wasn't really serious. In which case, I would like to get back together my ex. It wasn't that I ever stopped liking him, it's just that I was crushed by the WAY he dumped me.
So that's my boy plan. My training plan I haven't quite figured out yet. It's not a hassle to go up to school just to train, but the facility is closed from the 21st - 2nd, which is a long time. I mean, I'm ok with taking 5 - 7 days off...but 2 weeks? uh-uh. Gonna have to figure something out. Maybe find a bodyweight workout on the internet. Anyone know any? I want something intense to keep my strength up. I'm going to start practicing one handed pushups...it's kind of a goal for me because I want to do one in my bodybuilding routine.
Cals: A LOT!!! Upwards of 2500 today.
I bought TONS of veal and lean ground beef because it was on sale. I've never had veal before. What does it taste like? I made the ground beef for dinner. All of it. I find that there's something in bbq sauce and cajun spice that is addictive. I ate 780 g of ground beef in one sitting. i ache. I also ate my cookies?
Emunah and nc - Did you guys try the cookies? What do you think?
First exam is this thursday...I think I'm ready. Gotta lotta reading to do before then though. Ugh.

flour. ;) (flower = those things that grow on plants).
And - well - you can only use it to a certain extent in recipes... It doesn't rise (so you can't use it instead of all the flour in things like cakes and pastry) and if you use too much (especially whey) you tend to dry out recipes (and it is like eating sawdust.... mmmm.. tasty). :p

Legs and back today:
I'm wondering - if I can lift x weight on the leg press machine can i lift the same amount on the leg press that uses free weights? There were 3 guys super setting with free weight one, and I didn't want to wait, so I used the machine and got up to 260. But I've never tried it on the free weight one...
Dumbell squat: 25 x 12 x 3
Bent over lat raise: 25 x 12 x 3
Leg press: 230 x 12 x 1, 245 x 8 x 1, 260 x 4 x 1
T-bar row: 30 x 15 x 1, 35 x 10 x 1, 40 x 6 x 1
Hyperextensions: 12 x 3
Seated leg curl: 115 x 13 x 1, 125 x 8 x 1, 130 x 4 x 1

Just finished YET ANOTHER dexa scan at the study. I really doubt my bone density and bf have changed that much since mid October. I mean, here's hoping...but realistically? Je pense que "No".
Something a little weird has been happening lately: As per my MD, the study, my mom, my rationale...I have cut out all caffeinated beverages since last week. As a result, I have been sleeping straight through the night. Like we're talking 10:30 - 11:00 until 7:30 - 8:30 am. It's crazy. But now, for some reason, when I wake up, I have the HUGEST stomache ache ever. I can't put anything down. And if I do, it feels like I can't keep it down. I don't know what's wrong. It's only been like this since I've been getting a full night's sleep. Weird. I have booked an oppointment with the dietician in the study because I know that not having the night eats and not having the morning eats are going to affect my calories during the day and thus the study.
The only good thing is that I no longer go to bed with a bloated belly, which was really uncomfortable. I would like to take in my normal calories though. Wish I knew what was wrong...
Training today (really bad because I didn't train at York - my school - and I'm not really familiar with the facilities at U of T - the uni doing the study)
Dumbell Inclince press - 22 x 12 x 3 (ever seen a gym with 22 lb weights?)
Incline flye - 22 x 12 x 3 <--I remember when I was using 15s baby. hells ya!
Dumbell Bench press - 22 x 12 x 3
Bench flye - 22 x 12 x 3
Decline press - 27.5 x 12 x 3 (again, 27.5 lb weight? come on...)
Overhead rope extension - 60 x 12 x 3
Rope pushdown - 60 x 12 x 3
Pushups - 30 x 6
Yesterday's cals couldn't have been more than 1500, and I've only had about 200 today (pwo shake + dex) :( NO GOOD. Maybe it's because I'm not in school, not running around... and have a broken heart (it's been 6 days since I've seen my boy. This is the longest I've gone without him...) I'm not making excuses though, I would like to take in the cals, it just hurts.

Huh, looky at that. Who woulda thunk. I guess because we use the empircal (?) system. No wait, is Canada on metric? Whatever it is, we do the opposite. :)
Cals suffered today...maybe 1200 or so. I had to have my meals as either Sylvestor Stallon protein pudding or PVL peanut butter and chocolate. It wasn't so bad. I just feel like I should be hungry, but I'm not. I hope it's just a 24 hour thing.
I really should be on now because I have an exam tomorrow in research methods. I'm pretty confident with the material, and I've been studying pretty much all day. I'm gonna kick that exam in the bum!!! For serious yo! I'm going into the exam with around an 87 and I'm confident, so bring it on! Tomorrow, after the exam, I'm gonna have a sweet @$$ workout, then go to my friend's house for dinner and a little "fun"...in the form of some contraband. Shh....:) Gotta be a teenager!

Gonna be veeeeery useful come the 21st.
The exam went sooo well today. If I got wrong all the ones that I starred (because I was unsure), then I can still manage a 75%, which would be awesome. My next one is Monday, so I'm going to chill today and then commence the hardcore book attack tomorrow. I'm at home tonight. Mommy wanted a mother daughter movie night in honour of me finishing my first exam. It's fun. She's at a meeting, lol
However, with home, comes home food. So i've eaten half a chicken, 2 pb and j sandwiches, 1.5 L of ice cream and 4 protein bars. since 5:30. Some of us don't feel too hot (tummy rumbling)... Oh well. At least 2000 cals just from 5:30 - 8:30 :)
It's so weird, I went to bed last night at 10, but I had conversations with two different people via text messages between 11:00pm - 12:30 am. One was with the ex about g-d knows what, and the other was with my other friend. But I was actually carrying on text message conversations in my sleep. So weird...

Good stuff Jaime...glad to see the increases!
Thanks buuuuudy! You too!
I've also gained 2 lbs these last two weeks (wasn't really expecting it, but...whatever! Woo!)
So...I made a big decision today: I dropped out of the study. I was peeing in the cup the morning and while bringing it to my fridge, I said to myself, "I can't do this every day for a year."
1) I hate storing pee in my fridge. If I had to do it once a week, fine, but every day? And then bring 7 days worth in cooler to school once a week? Uh-uh.
2) I hate wearing the pedometer. I hate explaining to my friends that it's NOT a pager, "That's like sooooo 5 years ago J-me...", I hate explaining to them why I need a pedometer. (They think I'm an exercise a holic). And then logging when I take it off, for how long, why and when I put it back on.
3) I hate HAVING to workout. The study says I MUST workout 2 - 3 hours a week, at least. I don't like having a time restriction. If I miss I day, I hate feeling like I HAVE to make it up. Granted, I love bodybuilding more than anything in the world, but I hate that they MAKE me do it.
4) I hate food logging. I eat what I want, when I want. I don't want to know how many calories are in in, or whether I'm taking in exactly 440 MORE calories per day. It takes the enjoyment out of food to know that I'm wolfing something down that I'm not hungry for just because "the study" says I have to.
5) ALL THE FRIGGIN APPOINTMENTS! DEXA, RMR, pee pee drop off, psych and nutritionist...I do not live or go to school anywhere remotely close to the university and i hate making the treck down there at least once a week every week.
Phew. Sorry for the long, depressing rant. But this was a big decision for me, and I had to get it off my chest.
Thanks for listening and putting up with me :)

2% increase in bodyfat, 8 LBS (!!!!) IN LEAN MASS! 8 LBS! From early October to early December I gained 8 lbs of muscle. SWEET @$$ SWEET!
I have an exam tomorrow (sport psych) and I have been studying non-stop for it, literally. It's only been 4 days since my last once, and it's a week until my next one. It doesn't stop! :( But I'm prepared and ready. Bring it baby! However, after tomorrow, I'm really going to be out of comission (life) because my next exam is anatomy in which I have a low 70's average. Need to bring that up...big time. I'm not a perfectionist, or an overachiever, or a med-school wannabe, but I really need to average AT LEAST a B so they'll consider me for the Personal training lisencing program (my goal).
5 days til the ex comes in...
CALS: I think I literally ate at least 3000 worth of ice cream and protein powder today. It's like, I wasn't in the mood for anything else. Lol, at least I got a variety of macros :) I love being a teenager.

I would hate that. But in the mean time...it really hurts! My hand was on my tummy throughout the whole exam. It needs to leave! i can't have this last until the 19th. It's affecting my appetite, mood and energy. BOOORNS! I haven't trained since last Friday because of convenience...no where to train, no time to train. I know that doesn't sound very "bodybuilder-ish" of me, but the first 2 weeks of December, I really need to pump my brain, not my biceps (no, i couldn't have been cheesier :)). So the training will have to take a backseat...as the nutrition has (hence the abundance of fake food *ice cream, powders, bars*)
p.s. the exam went pretty well. I starred (meaning I was unsure) about 20 out of 150 questions, but that may mean the ones I didn't star were wrong and I was confident with the wrong answers, lol. So...I'm thinking anywhere between 65 - 75%, which would bring my average down to a low 80. It's still good :)
And now...to anatomy!

hey gurl.
Like the journal.
Well I found this online for you (below) and thought Id paste it. it is an example from http://www.dietitian.com on how to gain weight per week. Of course youd have ot make some changes (ex sugar) because of your conditions.
but I Think you are not getting enough calories or fats everyday.
remember food is fuel for the muscle. you dont have to worry about it all transfering to fat with your high metabolism, i thnk no matter what you wil always stay pretty cut. so consume more calories..more carbs..more fat! haha.
avacados are a good essential fat too if you are only trying to stick to those types.
do you have another comp planned?
also, why is one of your goals to lose 1%bf? is that only a goal for contest days?
talk to u later
hope all is well.
ps. I agree with you about the too much protein thing. I always heard you dont need more that approx a gram per pound of body weight. anymore than that is too hard on your kidneys and isnt beneficial for muscle building if it isnt coupled with higher calories as well. short article:

OMG I HATE EXAMS. I have my last one firday it is sikening every time I thnk of it. herbs help. try some anti-anxiety herbs from the drug store.
good luck.

Davies - Thank you so much for all those links. However, something I'm doing is right because I have gained a lot of weight (for me) in a relatively short period of time...So I think I'm taking in adequate calories. I hear what you're saying about the protein and it all makes sense from a scientific standpoint, but the evidence linking excessive protein to liver and kidney problems is inconclusive. And from personal experience, I haven't had any problems eating as much as 3x my body weight (lbs) in protein (this doesn't happen often though). And I don't think I ever said i wanted to lsoe 1% bf. I said that in 20 lbs, I gained 1 (but it's actually 3% now).
Thanks for dropping by, I love to hear from you!
cath - Word on the tummy pains! How did your exam go? What's your major? What uni?
Tara - Thanks hun. It's a little better today, but that's because the pain moved elsewhere :) (see below)
I think that from now on, in order to make my journal a little more exciting and fun to read, I'm going to include a "J-ME's tip of the day". As I am a teenager (and a rebellious, stubborn one at that) I often chose not to learn from others' mistakes, and rather, make my own :P So my tips will essentially be what I learned through the course of the day by doing stupid things (to err is human, right?)
Well, here's the first one: I was reading this month's Muscular Development and someone asked Branch Warren how he got his massive thighs. He said that about once a month, leg day consists of nothing but squats...for a whole hour. Front, hack, barbell, dumbell...everything. So I says to myself like this I says, "Well, seeing as how my whole body could fit into one of Branch Warren's pant legs, I will give this a try to help myself grow." And I did. And I ache. And breakfast almost came up.
J-ME'S tip of the day:
Unless you are Branch Warren, DO NOT train like Branch Warren.

I agree with you jaim. I find that my body uses quite large amounts of carbohydrates, much more than some people find acceptable. I accrue a muscle easier by keeping these high. But at the same time, I think if I ate more protein and less carbohydrates, even if I increase my calories my gains would not be as high a quality.
The key is that every body reacts to food differently. Some of us handle simple carbohydrates much better than others. So if what you are eating makes you feel well, than it is certainly suitable for you. And with antioxidants like bee pollen and plenty of fiber, you really cannot allow yourself to worry about internal problems. As long as you feel fine, every thing is probably treating you wonderfully.
J-ME'S tip of the day:
Unless you are Branch Warren, DO NOT train like Branch Warren.
That’s very funny. Since you are on the topic of squats, allow me to share that I am on a 7 week program to increase my squatting performance. The program involves doing different numbers of sets, reps, and lifting varying percentages of my maximum squat weight (205 baby!). I squat three times a week, with a few other lifts. Then for two or three of the other days in the week I work my upper body. My entire backside feels stronger.
Looking good here :D

Thanks, that sounds intense though.

Right now, I'm sitting at 8%, which is much better than before
20 lbs gained = 15 lbs lbm + 5 pounds fat (3% bf increase)
No bloodwork recently. I was going to go to the dr. because i needed a referral for the sleep disorder clinic, but since I cut out caffeine two weeks ago, I've slept like a baby. I think my next scheduled appt is...I actually don't know...?
Unfortunately, no. Finals don't finish until Tuesday. And get this: Monday's exam is 7 pm - 10 pm, Tuesday's is 9 am - 12 pm! THERE'S NO TIME TO STUDY BETWEEN THEM...BOORNS!
So there I was, studying in the library, minding my own business when the guy sitting next to me looks at me and says, "Your veins are awesome. They're really cool". I hate them, hate them hate them hate them. So I say, "Thanks" and continue studying. He kept talking to me about training and diet and stuff, and finally I said (quite randomly), "Listen, I'm kind of seeing someone". He looked at me as though I had said, "i38fgksoh89", Lifted up one eyebrow and then said, "Ok..." and continued to do his work. Ignoring me the rest of the time.

I was going to post yesterday, but I think there was something wrong with the forum site (at least on my computer from 11 am - 8 pm last night). Oh well.
Good news: It's the weekend! Woot. You know what that means?! STUDYING!!! It's so sad that my weekdays are undifferentiated from my weekends. But I'm getting together with friends to study for my last 2 exams so I get the best of both worlds.
Not so good news (it's not bad, it's just...not so good :)): If there was an award for best personification of a somatic anxiety disorder...me thinks I would win the Oscar, Tony, Emmie, Golden Globe, Juno and Razzberry. I have turned my anatomy exam into a death sentence. The stomach pains have gotten worse. We're talking...like...benevolent apendicitis pains here. I can't keep anything down (or in, for that matter). Really :( MonsterMaxx and chicken soup (sans chicken) have been my sources of sustenance since Tuesday. And I feel like there's nothing I can do. I study a lot, but I balance it with social acitivities (though not in excess) to take my mind off it. And I know the material pretty welll...and I've been getting good marks, good sleep, good nutrition (up until Tuesday), but there's nothing that can eleviate my worries :(
I need this to go away because now I just feel so tired and drained of energy.
The other possibility is that it's not actually somatic anxiety, but I've been communicating too much with DDE and via computer osmosis, I caught whatever she had/has. Or something...:)
Pain, pain go away...come again another day...

Hmm you should probably go to the doctor if it does not dissapear very soon. Chances are you just caught a stomach bug (it's that time of year), but the doctor would probably give you something for it.
It will probably go away pretty soon, but just incase you may want to drink some ginger tea. That always helps my tummy.
Best of luck. And keep us posted :D

Fingers crossed...thanks though :)
Here's the thing: The only time I'd be willing to go to the Dr. is AFTER exams. So....
a) By the time I finish exams (Tuesday) chances are, if it's a bug, it will have disappears (because they don't usually last more than a week) so i won't need a dr.
b) If it's anxiety, it will have disappeared because the exams will be over, so no dr.
So either way...no dr. :)

At school today (Saturday). See what I mean about not differentiating between weekdays and weekends? Boorns.
I have two questions:
1) I just bought BCAAs from bbing.com...it says that 2 pills = 2 g protein.
So what is the norm of BCAAs to take? How many pills should I take?
2) I bought Udo's choice fish oil (jar of 180 caps). He says 14 capsules = 1 tbsp of liquid oil.But how many g of fish oil is that equivalent to? And how many should I be having per day?
Thanks guys and girls!
The ex (who is actually no longer the ex....long story) is coming in today, but I don't think I'm going to get to see him until Wednesday.

It always seems like no matter how hard I study, the prof always asks whatever it is I DON'T know. :( I hope it goes well. I have exactly 48 more hours til Doomsday. Stomach isn't getting any better.
Good news: I HAVE ABS! Well, not exactly. I 1/2 have abs. My obliques, intercoastals and serratus anterior are super shredded, but my transverse/rectus abdominus is just kind of a flat wall. There's no definition. Weird. It looks very asymmterical (that's not the right word, but I couldn't think of an appropriate adjective). But since I've never had carved obliques/I.C./S.A. this is very exciting for me :)

Lol, this was a marhshamallow flavoured BAR not powder. PVL has some pretty creative flavours though...I endorse them to the extreme. As of 10:30 this morning, I have finished my first semester of second year university. Woot! I haven't gotten any other marks back other than the 80, but it's looking good for 3/4 (anatomy was a disater! DISASTER I TELL YOU!)
Total damage/results after 2 intense weeks:
1) 5 good friends became best friends (We're all partying tonight). We're a lot clsoer now than we were at the beginning of the year, even though a lot of us don't live anywhere near each other.
2) Caffeine intolerance - I went off it cold turkey so that I could sleep and be well rested during the exam period, and when I had my first Pepsi in 3 weeks yesterday, I got a headache.
3) The ability to stay up super late and wake up suer early (in fact, I think I had a few 48 hour days...)
4) Guiness record for short term memory - Literally learned today's material 45 min before the exam, and forgot it after I made the last mark and WAS WALKING OUT THE DOOR
5) 8 lbs =gone + bad case of hives (came about 3 days ago...very gross). Not too happy about the weight loss. Infact, quite sad. I let the somatic anxiety and stress get the better of me and this is what happened. I didn't take care of myself as I should have. I neglected my body and focused on my mind. Could it have been prevented? I don't know. I mean, it's not like I wanted to be stressed, but exams are anxiety inducing by nature to me...they always have been.

I was telling my friends that for 48 hours (today being the second 24 hour period) I am off limits. If I'm not eating or sleeping...I may be dead (not really though)

Today was an awesome day. I went for some final tests at the university (I have my final RMR tomorrow morning at 7...BOORNS!) and then a rally downtown. It was sweet.
Has anyone tried the reformulated Lee Labrada bars? With all due respect to the champion and best Bridesmaid in bodybuilding history, they taste like @$$. The caramel peanut and Rockin roll used to be my favourite, and I was going to rely on them for quick cals...but I can't stand the taste anymore. ick.
In better news, I'm going to Buffalo boxing day and the day after with my mom - Always good times. AMERICAN CEREAL here I come!

True that!
We actually didn't end up going because I had to have my stupid RMR at the university at 7 this morning, and had to wake up at 5 to leave the house at 6. So some friends and I got together and watched Wondershozen (DO NOT WATCH THIS SHOW!!!!)
I took my measurements again today...man, my body is doing weird things:
It's like the weight is migrating downwards...At first, most of it went to my face. Then, my face leaned out a little, and I got a bit of a belly. Now, my stomach/abs are back to where they were pre-bulking, but my thighs and calves have gained 1" and 0.5" respectively.
In another month, I'm going to have the fattest feet in the world :)
Now that I have all this time off, I don't know what to do with myself. I've seen some movies, hung out with friends, going to Buffalo...nothing too exciting. I don't even have any plans for New Years yet! Boorns!
I haven't trained in forever and it's killing me! No gyms are open, and I don't have the money to buy a month membership anywhere. All I have is my wittle exercise bike...but i hate it, lol.

My body is also putting weight where I don't want it...it's frustrating! I keep telling myself that it WILL distribute evenly with time but I feel your pain. It's weird watching the tape measure go up and down all over.
I'd be going bonkers on break if I hadn't started volunteering. It's keeping me useful :P

Hellllllllllo!
Hope everyone is having a Merry X-mas, Happy Hannukah and Crazy Kwanza! :)
I am so glad everything is done. I've been spending some quality time with my friends, which I've missed, getting caught up on a lot of reading, hanging out with my parents (NERD!) and the like.
The only training I've been doing is about 30 min on the bike a couple of times a week, and abs 3 times a week. I really want rectus/transverse abdominus to come back (P.S. Abs, if you're reading this, I miss you. Come home to mummy).
Kodak still has my digicam, but I NEED it back. It's been months since I've taken pics, and there are also some killer x-mas lights in my neighbourhood (something i very much regret about being Jewish - no x-mas lights...) that I want to take pictures of for my daddy (P.S. Kodak, if you're reading this, I miss my camera. Please send it home to mommy).
I had another sugar alcohol "episode" last night. I really need to stop doing that. I had about 200 g of sugar alcohols (a couple protein bars, 1 L of ice cream and popcorn)...and the stomach was much upset.
As for nutrition, I am back on keto. So that means eggs, eggs, eggs, chicken, eggs, steak, eggs, salad dressing, egg whites, protein powder and eggs. Butter toffee flavour protein powder from Dymatize Elite is my life.
1) cath - where do you volunteer? I used to...until school happened...:(
2) dde - Best of luck with the move! Need me to help? I think I lifted a box once. No wait, my bad. I don't lift heavy things :) Come by whenever you're free.
3) Tara - Is mine the only journal you're NOT posting on? lol, kidding. I read yours and wish that I could enlist your services to bake cookies. I would pay you handsomely (in...protein powder?). There's no such thing as a bad cookie!!!

Yikes, no veggies on Keto? I could not handle it! You have to take my spinach and cottage cheese away by force :P Do you have luck bulking without gaining fat on it, though?
I'm in mourning over my abs too. It's SO hard to see them go although there are definitely more important things in life and health.
I volunteer at an exotic cat refuge taking care of tigers, cougars, lions, leopards, and other species of cats who were rescued from abusive/horrible living conditions. A lot of them were supposed to be housepets or were in filthy, cramped zoos. They are so happy at the refuge. It's a lot of cleaning and lawn work but they are amazing to be around so I don't mind!

Of course you're allowed veggies on keto, lol! Unlimited veggies. In fact, they encourage it becvause it means you can add a lot more oil, butter and dressing to your diet.

Life has been awesome! I've been eating well, biking hard and spending a lot of times with friends and my dad. I have come home every day to see him...everyone talking about family time and family meals makes me miss living at home. Though I don't miss my mom as much as my dad (because she's a lot more easily accessible, I see her pretty frequently).
Thinking of ways to dump the ex. I don't know what to say or how to say it, but it has to be done soon. I really like him as a friend, and I think that's what's holding me back. I don't want to lose his friendship, but I know I will. Because it's all or nothing with him. We're either going out as boyfriend or girlfriend, or we're nothing. So I'd rather just call him my "boyfriend" but treat him as a best friend...ah, it's complicated. The hardest part of a relationship is ending it...
I spent the day with my friend Mikey: Wacthing Cheers, playing pool, talking. I love being on break, I get to spend time with people I don't normally hang out with. MIKE: You're gonna kick major ass in 2008!

Ah sometimes it's hard to end a relationship, but I think that there are times when we have to do it even though our heart says otherwise. On the long run, it will be better for both of you since it's not fair for neither of you to be in a relationship where love isn't there. It's better to lose him as a friend than miss a genuine love relationship.

I had to do the same w/ my ex that I dated 2 yrs in high school and a little in college. I just liked him as a friend, but like with you, it was all or nothing. I finally realized that I was just being selfish and that we both deserved better. It's so hard to come up with the right word to say though.

That's a tough one, not wanting to lose the friendship but needing to end the relationship. Since you had problems before, I wouldn't think that he's totally unaware that they've come up again, right? Saving your friendship is the important thing, I'm sure he will understand that you've got to speak up now if you want to remain on good terms in the long run.

You all have great points and advice. I just wish I had the balls (figure of speech :)) to do it. I know this sounds stupid, but have you guys heard of contructive dismissal? It's common in the workplace. It's where the employer makes the environment so uncomfortable for the employee, that the employee quits rather than being fired (because if they were fired, they'd be entitled to severance pay). I think it's kind of what I'm (UNINTENTIONALLY!!!) doing. I'm passively dumping him. I wish I was a bi*ch, lol.
Buffalo was friggin awesome! We got about $200 in groceries (the officer at the border raised an eyebrow when we told him we were bringing back $200 in food...and nothing else). That's not to say I didn't get clothes. We did some damage at the factory outlets :)
I had some trouble though, emotionally. I didn't get a lot of colothes because nothing felt good on me. I'm still not used to this new body. So I pick out sizes that I would have worn before...forgetting those days are long behind me, and those clothes don't fit anymore. So it was a real eye opener. I actually teared up in the change room at Old Navy because I wanted to just break down then and there. I don't know how long it will take me to come to terms with the fact that I don't look like I did before, and I may never again (though that's a good thing).
I trained at the hotel, they had an awesome facitlity, complete with a Bodyspace (kind of like a bowflex machine), an elliptical, recumbant bike and treadmill. So I did get a workout in last night, my first one in a while. It felt great! :)

Oh I so hear you on the shopping thing. I went to buy pants the other day and hated how everything looked. So used to grabbing the 2s and I almost started crying too. Didn't help that I was surrounded by 16 yr old size double 0 girls!! Remember, though...it's a good thing!! We just have to get used to having muscle!!
I kind of did the passive dumping w/ my ex and it was pretty bad. I ended up feeling like a b8*&ch and hurting him even more than if I just would have cut it off cleanly. Do what you feel is right though. I'm sure you'll figure it out!

Yeah, I'm a guy but I don't do things like most guys do it :P I don't think there's a good way to say it without hurting him, but I feel that being assertive and honest is a lot less hurtful than doing it passively. At least, this way, the guy won't have to suffer during a couple of weeks of passive aggressiveness.

Thanks for the advice Drew and Tara. It gets complicated here. I wanted to spend half of New Years with him and the other half with my friends from kin. But as it turns out, my friends from kin have a mutual friend in common with him, so we'll all be spending it together. Good? Bad?
I have other friends who invited me to do stuff, so I may just have to exercise that option too. In the meantime, I have 4 days to think about it :)...or something. Arg, so complicated. And i can't believe I have to go back to school in about a week. I feel like I squandered my break :(.
I'm really thinking hard now about the FAME Centrals contest. I mean, it's 91 days away (not like I'm counting or anything...). The problem is this: I like the weight I'm at now, I mean it could be higher, but for now, it's ok. Issue being that i can't see my abs or the definition in my legs. This is usually the make or break in a woman's contest, because it takes A LOT for a natural woman to get shredded legs and abs (if it's not genetic). So the bf has to go down a little, but I don't want the weight to. Complicated, eh? :)

I hear ya on the new sizes and bodyfat stuff, Jaim...I bet it's a really hard decision for someone who is going to compete. Do you think you can easily gain back anything you'd have to lose?

12-28-2006, 11:27 PM
Jamie - if you get on stage 'skinny' it is going to be worse than getting on stage with a little less definition.
My advice - You are too lean as it is... So bulk for (at least) 6 weeks. (actually - my honest advice is bulk for at least another year or too)...
But - if you are serious about this... Then: GIVE IT YOUR ALL.
That means EAT. TRAIN. REST.
Then see where you stand.

I fill out really well on contest day because I think I know how my body works in terms of what pump up exercises to do and how to eat the day of a show. I'm also good friends with most of the promotion people who hand out free samples at shows, so that gets lots of sugars back in my system to get me vascular. I don't really carb deplete or load...or sodium/water deplete/load. Too scared.
Emma - I hear what you're saying...and it makes sense. My only reservation is that with my "new" body, it's not really...skinny or lanky anymore. It's defined and cut (because my bf hasn't changed all that much but my weight has). When I see women on stage, unlike with the men, the winners are usually more ripped (albeit not as big). And again, I can always re-evaluate where I am a week from the contest and see what needs to be done.

I am not an expert but I think you should eat more and more (again, I know...) and focus on compound lifts and maybe throw in some olympic lifts. Your body tends to get shredded really easily so I wouldn't be scared if I were you.
Don't forget to be at your best on stage because I'll be there to watch you :)

I find it hard to believe that you would not be skinny/'lanky' anymore... [Unless you somehow gained 30#..]. ;)
Don't let your 'disordered thoughts' interfere with reality Jaim... You have to force it too hear the truth - and the truth of the matter is you are too thin.... And aren't you tired of being the girl who is 'too thin'???
As Tara's title now says - ANYONE can be skinny....
Why not try to be something different?

The 20 lbs WAS/IS different. It's hard because in the "normal" world (the not bodybuilding world) I'm getting soooo many compliments about how healthy I look, how filled out I am, how round my arms are, how rosy my cheeks are. So I'm no longer the girl who's "too thin" in the real world.
I don't know how to look at it from a bodybuilding perspective....
And I completely agree that anyone can be skinny (well put Tara :)), but as you know Emma, it takes hard work and dedication (and also some decent genetics) to maintain contest condition (though it may not be perfectly healthy). I mean, you maintain roughly 10-12% year round...and look at the time and effort you put into devising your routines, it's unbelievable :). And I'm sure you take pride in the fruits of your labour.
So while I may be thinner than the other competitors, I'm not "ballerina" skinny; I'm "bodybuilder who needs to bulk up a bit" small.

keep in mind on contest day those women have gone through water depletions, carb depletions, etc., to make them look more 'cut'. They don't look like that on a typical day. So don't compare yourself to them.

Thanks for the sympathy cath :) I didn't say I was fat, because I know I'm not. I was just saying how I'm not in competition shape. I'm still kind of torn in terms of what to do. I know I'm 13 weeks out, so I don't have to worry about diet just yet. But I would like to have a general idea about what to do so I can psychologically prep myself. I got this from posting in the transformation/post your pics forum:
"First of all its nice to have the first women ever to post in this thread. thanks for posting your progress. BTW you look shredded as hell, that's an awesome trans, you look like your carfed out of an statue or something, keep going Gal."
I'm so lost, lol. Everyone telling me something different :( Even one of the judges from FAME (who I'm good friends with) said that I have a real chance at the top junior spot (assuming there are other competitors) lol. I'm going to take some pics with the digi sometime in the early new year...let y'all see my progress.
In the meantime...I went to Bingo last night with some friends, and somehow won $50! It was huge. All my friends were patting me on the back, and I was getting dirty looks from the regulars who have probably been coming for years and haven't won a thing. SORRY!!! The $50 went straight to the bank (I know, I'm no fun :))
I'm very badly not looking forward to going back to school. Just when I was starting to reeeeeeeeally appreciate the freedom of winter break, BAM!, I have to go back on the 3rd (which is a week earlier than all my friends at other universities). Not fair. Oh well, it just means I get back to training and friends :) and the gym boy...

Ohhh I totally understand - I meant to say, I can't imagine you ever getting fat. You just seem to have that body type that will always be lean! It's a dilemma to know that you're in healthy shape, yet miss how you were in the past. These are the last two. I'm having trouble with my back double bi pose in terms of leg placement. I've read posing articles, but can't quite figure out how to flex my quads and calfs at the same time. I have some time to work on it though.
New Years eve was uber fun. I went to City Hall with my best friends, and then a bunch of people came to my house and we chilled and watch Spice World (great movie). Sugar (the ex/present bf) came too, and he bought me the nicest necklace. You can see it in the picture titled "back". It's a heart with silver and I think fake diamonds all around it. Darn! That was a total monkey wrench. He's soooo good to me :(
P.S. Ignore the whole above my belly button in a few of my pics...my belly button ring fell off and no stores are open for me to buy a new one. In the mean time...I have two navels, lol :)

You guys are so sweet. I really needed the encouragement. I mean, granted I gained some muscle, but it's hard to come to terms with the new body (i know I sound like a broken record. I'm sorry).
But it's exactly 3 months to the contest and I'm still unsure about what to do to prep. Maybe I'll just try and hold my conditioning through cardio rather than maniuplate diet (because I really like the amount I'm eating :))
In other news, I was thinking about the bf..and what I should do. As per the gift he got me, am I expected to return it even though there was a mutual understanding that we wouldn't be going out once he went back to Kitchener? It that how it works? Boorns. Boys are complicated.

Thanks DDE and Tara. I appreciate it! I am proud. Just a little sad that my abs are gone. But hey, the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away. Ok, so I'm not exactly Job, but I feel him. The Lord gaveth to me 20 lbs, and he tooketh away my abdominals :)
My dad didn't end up going to hospital last night. But it's been really touch and go for the last 48 hours. I think he's going to be ok. He's been under the watchful eye of the doctor and my mom, so he's in good hands.
School tomorrow - boo. My breaks this term aren't longer than one hour, so I'm going to have to pack a really intense workout into about 40 minutes or so. It can be done! :) My cardio for this terms will be my basketball gym class Mondays and Wednesdays. Our teacher is the coach of the York University girls team (ranked 4th in Canada), so chances are, it WILL be an intense workout. I'm really looking forward to it.
I'm also looking forward to seeing the gym boy again...mmm...problem is, I don't think the ex knows that we won't be going out once he goes back to Kitchener. The arrangement was that we were only boyfriend/girlfriend while he was in Toronto, but once he leaves, I'm free to sow my wild oats again. Having said that, last night, he went out for dinner with some mutual friends and was talking about what he's going to get my for valentine's day...errr....

Hey Jaim...hope your dad is doing ok, sounds like he has lots of love and support around him and that helps so much. As for the boyfriend situation...it does sound like he's not quite on board with the plan. Perhaps...he needs a gentle reminder?
Congrats on your decision to compete with the Emma stamp of approval!

Ok..you want to see disappearing abs, look at my pics..I honestly don't know what you mean about your abs...your stomach is like a washboard!!!
Thanks Tara and Cathryn :) I love my ciber friends
Daddy update: Soooooo much better. The antibiotics kicked in yesterday and he's doing fine (well, much better). It's at times like these that I regret my choice to move out. I think he misses me, and I know I miss him.
Boyfriend update:
a) He is no longer. I hadn't heard from him since 2 am on new years day (when he left my house after the party), so I sent him an MSN message (does this make me a bad person?) saying, "I'm going to take our lack of communication as a sign that it's over between us. I'm sorry. We had a nice run. I hope we can continue to be friends, it would mean a lot to me." So that's it. We are done. Do I return the necklace? :)
b) Gym boy saw me for the first time since the break started. He saw me from across the hall after my workout. He dropped his bag, ran up to me, picked up up and twirled me around...it was like something out of a movie. Seriously. He proceeded to give me 3 more hugs before going to do his own workout. Then, in the gym, he came up to me, grabbed my arm and said, "I am so happy for you. You were trying so hard to gain weight and you did it. Your posture is better, you look taller and more confident. You look great. I love how you look." Then, our way out, he looked at me and said, "I really think you look awesome." BE STILL MY BEATING HEART!
Weight update: The abs are back. I think this means the weight dispersion has finally occurred and the lbs have settled proportionately. Phew. That was a scare :)
Training:
Pushups - 30 x 4
Bodyweight squats - 40 x 4
Dips (on a bench) - 30 x 3
Cable Rowing - 75 x 3 x 1, 65 x 10 x 2
Barbell curls - 55 x 1 x 1, 45 x 10 x 2
Leg press - 260 - 12 x 3
I know this is a random assortment of exercises, but it's my first time back in the gym in about 2 weeks, so I needed to get a feel for it :) Thankfully, uni students don't have the same "Lose weight" resolution as most people, so my gym wasn't any more packed than it normally is. Just me and my boy from now on....that'd be nice...a girl can dream, can't she?

Hey sorry I missed your move, hope you are settling in well, lol, ( I mean to the new jounralling spot of course) So you look great, congrats on the gain. When are you competing next? Sorry to hear your Dad hasn't been well. The ex lives in Kitchener? Me too, hmmmm, has he realized that he is going to be an ex yet??

BUDDY! WHERE YA BEEN?! I sent you PMs, e-mail, posted in your journal to tell you how friggin awesome you looked at Shaun's show, but I never heard back from you :( When's your next show? Heck yes, I'll be there.
Thanks DDE (P.S. WOW to your lifts!!!), Cath, Tara and AgeRage...You know, sometimes I don't mind when things are mediocre most of the time, because it makes the little things (like getting picked up *literally* by the boy you like) that much more special.
Training:
Pushups = 30 x 4
Squats with bodyweight = 40 x 4
V-bar pushdown - The stack (110) x 3 x 8
Chest press machine - 65 x 3 x 3
Incline flyes - 25 x 8 x 3
Dumbell bench press - 25 x 8 x 3
Overhead rope edxtension - 60 x 12 x 3
Did a bunch of cardio (for the millenium challenge *same reason you'll be seeing squats and pushups during each of my workouts*) so I was too tired to do my weights. Stupid cardio.
I think next week (12 weeks out from the comp) I'm going to switch up my routine to do lighter weights and more reps...darn, just when I was getting uesd to LIFTIN LARGE...

J Me - I never got a single pm from you, I wasn't in hiding I just wasn't getting your PM's sorry! Thanks for all the kind words, Next show is the question I am not yet ready to answer, haven't decided where I am headed next so for now I will live through everyone else's competitions and journey's. So when is your next one?? Huh? Huh? Doing the Toronto Classic the end of June?? I will be there, I think hubby is competing again but I am going just to watch for a change. I think it scares me to go and just watch I am feeling like I am going to have to go lookng awesome, gonna feel fat no matter what seeing that those people have only ever seen me cut for show day, anywho enough of my fears voiced, lol.
Glad I found your journal and I am subscribed so I can read along, encourage and live through your journey, keep up the awesome work, you look great J Me!
I watched that Supersize She and I have to agree that she looked more like a man than a woman and I felt bad for her parents who just want her to settle down but then there is this little part of me that feels for her, I mean yes she has some issues but the fact that she wants it so bad and that she will not give up and that her family doesn't understand what she is doing, I feel all that too, guess I just looked past the steriods cause I was more into the emotional side of it, I am such a woman, lol.
Take care of you!

NO WAY! You're doing it?! SWEEEEET! I'm bbing but leen is..figure, right?
My next comp is Fame Centrals March 31st, then I guess I'll try and hold my conditioning til Shuan's show June 30th. We'll see.
I went to the Canadian classic in my "offseason" shape. Ain't nothing to be shamed of. I bet you look awesome!! And I knew J would get hit by the competition bug :) Will you guys be using the same trainer again? (Sorry abou the PM misunderstanding...)
I think Hubby is going to try and do this one on his own, he learned from the trainer and now he wants to see what he can do with his knowledge. I am trying to convince him to at least get the trainer for the last week and the night before and day of the show. I'll have to wait and see what he decides but it would also be nice on my account to have the trainer do all his tanning and stuff, oh well, I mean I know he did my tanning for my first 3 comps but she is just comfortable with it and better at it, lol.
Yeah I was figure but now I am just living, lol, and eating, way too much I am sure, lol

Fame was actually my first contest a year ago last June. I'm with them forever - they got me into competing :) This will actually be my 9th contest since last June (2005).
Who else from the boards is doing Shaun's show, and what category are they doing?
Tara - I moved so that i could get input from more people about my training, diet, comp prep and other stuff.
Leen - It's nice to have the extra person in the audience cheering for you. And you're right about the tanning and the last minute questions and stuff. However, after 8 contests, me thinks my mom is just as good as any of those trainers. I think she knows more about the tanning and sodium depletion than I do :)

I would miss YOU cath! :)
I realized today that I didn't post WHAT exactly the "Millenium Challenge" was. Each month for Jan and Feb, the gym at my uni holds a contest for it's members to see who can complete the "challenge" for the month. I put challenge in quotes, because really, what they ask us to do isn't so challenging. For example, Jan.'s "challenge" is:
1000 pushups
1000 squats
25 miles run/walk
400 min bike
I've already completed almost a quarter of what they ask, and I've only been doing this for 3 days. I came in third last year, and am determined to get my name on a plaque for coming in first this year :) Thankfully, it fits in nicely with my contest prep (in terms of the cardio), so I won't need to be doing any extra on top of what the challenge asks.
I'm going back to work tomorrow! Yay! I had a job this summer and last year working at the SkyDome (many of you may be familiar with it; it's where the Toronto Blue Jays and Argonauts play). Anyway, I sold Mr. Sub, PizzaPizza and hotdogs behind consession stand #121. They called me up yesterday (after I told them I want some time to get used to second year uni) and asked if I was ready to come back to work. Ready to make spare cash?! HECK YES! So tomorrow from 10 - 3, then jan 20 and 21st. $$ is soooo good.
Training
60 min bike
--- Had class straight from 8:30 - 2:30 so by 2:30, all I had energy for was 60 minutes steady state cardio on the stationary bike reading this month's MuscleMag. (P.S. Do any of you read it? The ratio of ads to articles is 3:1 in favour of ads!!! All for Muscletech...waste of money - not the supps, the mag).

I worked the Cincinatti Bearbats and Western Michigan Broncos (?) "Internation Bowl" football game. I loved it! Americans tip so much better than Canadians (and you guys say WE'RE polite).
So...first day back on the job and you'll never guess what happens...it was like something out of a movie... the sewage pipe above our consession burst.
So poopy water and sewage were leaking EVERYWHERE! Ick.
Thankfully, we got to leave early but still got paid as though we worked the whole day (I finished at 1 vs. 4). Sweet deal :)
I got a really long facebook message from the ex explaining why he didn't call for 3 days, asking why we were broken up and telling me that as a result of what I did, he can never see me the same way, and I'm obviously NOT the same girl he fell for. WHAT!? COME ON! I don't think I've changed in the least. Granted, I'm not exactly the same girl he fell for because that girl was enamoured with him, and this girl...well, she just isn't feelin' it 100% anymore. I can't win with some boys. :( I wonder what he'll reply...

Betcha you both have changed...you've probably gained a lot of self-confidence and he doesn't like that it makes you go for exactly what you want, instead of trying to struggle through unresolvable problems with him!

Thanks for the sympathy cath, but to each her own. Just because your dad was void of fecal matter doesn't mean it was any less exciting :)
Today was a great day. Had a great day at school, an awesome workout, saw an old friend who took me for ice cream (and paid!!!) and now I'm sleeping at home because I have some work to do on the internet, and it's going to take a while (which also means $30 is deducted from my rent this month..woo!).
I found out I got a B+ in a course I was really worried about (sport psych), so that means i'm almost guranteed the position in the personal training certificate stream next year (which will get me licensed). I am soooo excited. I just need to really crack down this term in order to keep my marks high.
AND MY MOM AND I ARE GOING TO FLORIDA FOR A WEEK IN FEB!!! Wooo!!!
Training
Pushups - 30 x 6
Squats - 40 x 10
Barbell curl - 40 x 12 x 3
Hammer curl - 15 x 12 x 3
Narrow grip barbell curl - 40 x 12 x 3
Concentration curl - 20 x 12 x 3
calf raise - 70 x 30 x 3
Lots of biking and walking...the challenge is mine baby!!!
Yeah on the saving rent, and the personal training license, great when things go your way isn't it? (Unlike the raw sewage day)

DDE - Heck yes I'm training!!! I made sure my mom got us in a hotel that has a fitness facility. If something happens last minute, we're within walking distance of a World's gym, so I can get a week pass. But we'll also be doing a lot of walking, so the cardio component will be taken care of. Good call though :)

Hey guys! Sorry I haven't updated in a while. Things have been pretty hectic with school, boys, friends and the like.
School - The semester just started and I've already been assigned all my midterms. There's a cluster right before reading week (Jan 24 - Feb 7) and a bunch about 10 days after (so I don't really have to study while I'm on holiday. I can't believe I have a midterm less than 3 weeks after I started the new term. Damn that's harsh!!! I got my marks back from last term though...78 average! Heck yes!!
Boys - The ex sent me a nasty message telling me I'm not the same person he fell for, I've changed, why didn't I call him, blah blah blah. However, I haven't heard from him since I wrote back. Could be because I made some quality points and observations that probably made him think (G-d forbid, right?) The new one is really great. Majoring in business, good head on his shoulders, Jewish, works 2 jobs...awesome guy. However, he has a nasty habit of chain smoking cigarettes and smoking weed (the latter I don't really mind ;)). Everyone has a vice though, right?
I trained today with a guy that I took my personal training course with. He's awesome...thinking of competing in '08. We trained arms together today, and he killed me. I'm going to ask him to make me a contest prep training program
Quad set (kind of like a superset but with 4 exercises instead of 2 :)):
Rope pulldown - 60 x 30 x 4
Zottman curl - 15 x 20 x 4
Overhead rope extension - 60 x 30 x 4
Alternate dumbell curl - 12 x 20 x 4
Straight set:
Preacher curl - 25 x 20 x 3
Overhead barbell - 45 x 20 x 3

You must be so excited about getting your certificate. Come train me for practice, ok? :P
I wish I could stay, I was just kidding though, work calls, commitments call, grr bills call, well not bill collectors but anyways, lol. Nice that you have a gym, us on the otherhand won't have a chance, even if we had a gym the kids would protest. This will be a no workout week so I will be refreshed and ready to go hard core when I return.

Was that sarcasm? Listen, just because you can bench press 100x your weight, deadlift 3 houses and squat several cars doesn't entitle you to make fun of my boy. DDE!!! I'm just kidding!!! I like it when you drop in :)
Cath - thanks! It's nice to know my hardwork and sometimes social-less weekends are paying off :) I will come train you one day...if I'm ever in Texas. Lol, maybe you should just come up here
Leen - Aw! You got my hopes up and everything. That's nice that you're kids are making it an exercise free vacation :) It seems like you just got home and now you're back out again. You're lucky that your job is so flexible (I don't even know what it is you do, lol)
I was talking to a couple friends who just got back from a cruise, where they befriended the hot Pilates instructor. One said that she thinks I should become a trainer on a cruise ship. Apparently, they make 1600-2000 US per month including room, board and free use of the facilities. That would be sooo cool.. The only thing is that you have to sign a contract keeping you on the boat for a minimum of 4 months. 4 months withouy my friends or family? I don't know if I could handle that :( The full-time working world is still at least 2.5 years away though, so I have time.
Training today was just a whole lot of biking, pushups and squats. The challenge is starting to get on my nerves because by the time I'm done my challenge stuff, I'm too tired for my actual workout. Oh well..I'm able to do more pushups now, and my quads feel a lot tighter than at the beginning of the month.

I remember reading in Supersize me that texas has 5 of the top 10 fattest cities in the states - kudos, lol
I should go there...but truth me told, I'd like to go to Florida (it's like of like...the second HolyLand for us :))
Tara - Welcome back! I was wondering why you weren't dropping in anymore. P.S. I need you to teach me how to do multiple quotes...please :)
DDE - Something about me + boys + inconsistency = no good. They never follow up with me. Like with the gym boy. We flirted all through first semester...but he didn't call during the break :( Maybe I shoul just make a move. What do you think?
Went swimming today because my friend who is a lifeguard got me in for free. Weird during the bathing suit thing. SSDD :) Still not used to "myself". I'm noticing that my body is distributing the weight yet again. It's more or less settled in the "apple" shape (characertistic of most males :(). It's a little squishier around my "lower abs" and lower back, and I've lost .5" in my thighs. Damn. I'd rather have bigger legs than a bigger tummy.
Didn't train today other than the swimming. And now I'm just sitting, typing up notes, wishing I was going out. My best guy friend got a girlfriend, so the time that we used to spend together is no longer ours. Tomorrow though, I'm meeting with two friends for dinner who are in from other universities. Nice!
Oh ya, and I looked up online what event I would be working next week: http://www.ushra.com/home Monster trucks! Friggin' monster truck rally! lol...i didn't know people were still into that. oh well, that means more Americans and their generosity!

FL is my favorite place too. It has that southernish charm/friendliness but is much more cosmopolitan and accepting of outsiders. TX is horrible for the health-conscious. We have a donut shop, McD's, Sonic, and KFC on literally every block.
I'm gaining EVERYTHING in the same areas as you and it is frustrating as hell. Weird question, is your gain 'jiggly' or not? Mine is like a pregnant bump...not looser fat! Sorry if that's too nosey!

The bump. In the front, it's like a constant bloated belly. Like, it's hard as a rock, but it just pokes out a little. In the back, it's jiggly. Legs are pretty tight though...probably from all the stupid squats :)

Thank you soooo much! Ya, I'm sure most women would rather an inch on their bis than their bum :)
I found an awesome training routine in this month's Muscle and Fitness. It looks pretty intense,
2 days on - 1 day off
1) chest/tr 2) shoulders/bi/calves 3) legs/calves 4) back/abs
30-45 seconds resp
Rep ranges of 6, 12, 15, 20
I start tomorrow. Hopefully it will go well (and I'll have time for cardio and the millenium challenge stuff as well).
So much work to do. I've been typing up notes all night...and it's pretty depressing stuff for my health course (ectopic pregnancies, STDs, abortions, infertility :()
