I think I'll actually bow hunt this year. I got out and shot my bow for the first time in 13 years and hit the target eveytime, decent grouping just need to sight it in better, low and right. I forgot the feeling when you watch the arrow fly through the air and it hits the target.

I'll be in the woods in 2 weeks. And damnit fitty, you made me shoot 3 doves this afternoon, lol!! I need a few more to get to that 50g of protien per meal. :D Maybe I could stuff them with bacon and beef to get the total up a bit?

Sept 23 here in TN. I shot a 3d tourney a couple of weeks ago. If you have never shot a 3d tourney, I highly recommend them. It is some of the best practice that you can get. You have to guess the yardages, plus the pressure of making a good shot to keep up your score.

Fitty needs some time down here. We're overrun with doves! We could burn up a case of shells on doves at the farm.

I did some tracking saturday and sunday. Found out that there's a new large buck challenging the old man. Now I have to decide who shall die this year. From the impressions I'd say the new buck is in the 200 lb range undressed. The old buck is probably 250 undressed. I'll be in the stand on Saturday rain or shine.

Cool....maybe you will get one of them. There is nothing like being on stand when you know that a monster is lurking around the area. I just keep thinking......OK, any minute he will be here. It helps me stay sharp & focused too.

They don't get that big by being stupid. I don't hunt for trophys, I hunt for meat. I'd rather have a small deer than a 14 point buck.

Yeah, I usually take a doe for my meat. I usually don't keep any of the meat though, because I am the only one in my family that will eat it and I don't want it to waste. I have several friends and acquaintances that love it, so I always take the meat to them. That way I know that it was eaten because IMO it is wrong for the meat to waste.

On another note, it is supposed to rain all weekend :(. It wouldn't bother me if I were hunting with a gun, but a bow makes it difficult.

Bow season just started this past Saturday here in Tennessee! I'm not bowhunting this year (haven't for the past few) though, so season doesn't start for me until 4 November (muzzleloader). Opening day of bow wasn't so great for anybody. I was going to head out to the woods to have a look around, but it started raining/hail about 0430, and then it was windy with gusts to 20mph. Talk about a bad day to try it with a bow. So instead I went to Bass Pro Shop in Nashville - it was packed. Probably all the bummed out bowhunters...

I'm going this saturday. Opening day was last saturday but it was really windy and pretty hot. Nobody I know who went got a deer. It's supposed to be cooler and calm this weekend, just right for sitting in a tree stand. I need to get my last sight pin sighted in tonight and I'll be ready to go.

Tenderloin........drools. I can taste it now. O/T a good way to cook it (although not very healthy)......

Slice it into 1/8" (or so) thick pieces. Place in a bowl full of buttermilk with a capful of worchestershire (sp). Let it marinate in the fridge overnight. Take out the pieces and batter them in flour. Then deep fry them like chicken (the grease must be hot). In other words, they should cook fast. They will have a nice golden crust like fried chicken. OMG...so good.

Sorry, been a little while. I've been too busy. Anyway, no, they had a lot of stuff out of stock. It was busier than I've ever seen it too. I've never waited in line at the register, but that time it took me 15 minutes before I even checked out. That's probably the cheapest trip to Bass Pro I've ever had.
Countin' down the days for muzzleloader...

The tally is at 7 and Jumbo isn't one of them. 2 of those were longer shots than I'd normally take, but they were standing still in a gauged area.

You're right fitty, she was tasty, threw the whole carcass in the pit with some apple sauce and spices and the meat just fell off the bone. :D

My folks have 9 acres and the neighboring farm is 155 acres so I hunt whenever I want. It's not a question of "layin' em down", it's more like shooting fish in a barrel, lol!! It's not really that fun anymore. The tally is now 13. 12 does 1 buck. 135 more to go to fill my crop damage permits. I'm out of arrows until wednesday so it's rifle time. I have a friend in the northern part of the county who thinks he has a bear on his property. I'm going up tomorrow to see if there is one or he's lost his frickin' mind. I need a bear skin rug to put in front of the new wood stove.:D I'll be taking some serious fiepower with me tomorrow, Gewehr 3 and 4 extra 30 round mags. I'm leaving nothing to chance with a roaming black bear.

Tally at 14 now, yesterday it was WAY too windy to do anything. I haven't seen a sign that Jumbo is moving in the area. He disappears during the rut every year, I guess he likes to do "the wild thang" in private, lol!
