Here's the plan:
Calories: I’ll start at 1,800 and raise calories by 100 calories per week until I get to 2,100 calories (3 weeks time), which according to Tom Venuto is my TDEE (maintenance level). I don’t think that it is as my contest nutritionist, Pam, had me bulk at 2,100 calories but we’ll see how this goes. Once I get to 2,100 if I’m not gaining mass, I’ll bump the calories up to 100 above maintenance level for a week, see what happens, and so on. . . . .
I plan to have 6 meals a day, with higher glycemic carbs for my first meal and my post workout meal. Other meals will be low to moderate carbs on the glycemic index, except for meal #6 which will always only be fibrous veggie carbs. There will, of course, also be lean proteins and healthy fats with each meal, except the post workout meal – which will be a protein shake plus high glycemic carbs and I will not have fats then.
So. . .
Meal 1: Higher glycemic carb, protein, fat
Meal 2: Post workout shake with higher glycemic carb
Meal 3: low to moderate glycemic carb, protein, fat
Meal 4: low to moderate glycemic carb, protein, fat
Meal 5: low to moderate glycemic carb, protein, fat
Meal 6: protein, fat, fibrous veggies
I have a fairly broad list of foods that are acceptable while bulking which was given to me by Pam. I’m going to use this more liberal list until cutting time. When cutting time begins, the list gets shortened greatly. :p
I’m going to split my macronutrients numbers up as evenly as possible throughout the 6 meals, taking into consideration the post workout meal will have no fat. I plan to begin with 45%P/30%C/25%F and see how that works for me for adding mass.
I will have one cheat meal a week and when I throw it in will be my choosing. It will be mostly on football game days, I’m sure. Otherwise, days like Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s. Gotta love football and holidays!
Supplements (Let me know if I’ve left out anything pertinent):
Multivitamin
Calcium Magnesium
Vitamin C
Vitamin B-50 Complex
Joint Care (Glucosamine/MSM)
BCAAs
Whey Protein
Glutamine
Cardio: 3 to 4 times per week for 30 to 40 minutes at 140 to 150bpm – either post workout or on a non-lifting day after I’ve eaten.
Training:
Monday: Chest/triceps/abs – 30 minutes cardio
Tuesday: Back/biceps
Wednesday: Off Day from lifting – 30 minutes cardio
Thursday: Shoulders/abs
Friday: Legs
Saturday: We all know I go to or watch football on Saturdays or golf! :D
Sunday: 30 minutes cardio
My lifting will more than likely be heavy & in the 6 to 12 rep range for the most part. I’ll just plan the workouts before I lift each training session.
I'm also going to throw yoga in there twice a week, hopefully.
I can’t think of anything else to say, except to provide stats – which I will take in the morning. I’ll update my stats every two weeks:
September 6, 2006
Weight: 123lbs
Bodyfat%: 17.9, 18.1 -- we'll call it an even 18%
Lean Mass: 100.86 (sad, but true)
Blubber: 22.14
Week 1:
1,800 calories at 45%P/30%C/25%F
So, that’s 202P/135C/50F
For bulking, I’m just going to divide grams up evenly throughout the 6 meals for the most part. For cutting, I may taper as the day goes on, but we’re not there yet. :D
So, 5 meals = 34P/23C/10F, 1 meal = 34P/23C/0F
*Please let me know if you see any glaring mathematical errors or anything you think is just plain goofy to do. I'll seriously consider your comments and decide whether they are useful or goofy themselves. :D
Oh -- and always feel free to correct my math if you see an error. Those are usually easy to find. ;)

Looks good, Hibby. How long are you planning to bulk for? Also, remind me what formula Venuto uses for calculating TDEE? I have the ebook but it's not on this computer atm.

Thanks jmc! :)
LOL, Greenie. I hope I'm allowed to wait until after the cutting phase to post the nakey photos. :p
Thanks, dbflgirl!
I used the Katch McArdle formula to determine my BMR:
I just cut and pasted the following from the net so I don't have to type it all:
Katch-McArdle formula (BMR based on lean body weight)
If you have had your body composition tested and you know your lean body mass, then you can get the most accurate BMR estimate of all. This formula from Katch & McArdle takes into account lean mass and therefore is more accurate than a formula based on total body weight. The Harris Benedict equation has separate formulas for men and women because men generally have a higher LBM and this is factored into the men's formula. Since the Katch-McArdle formula accounts for LBM, this single formula applies equally to both men and women.
BMR (men and women) = 370 + (21.6 X lean mass in kg)
Example:
You are female
You weigh 120 lbs. (54.5 kilos)
Your body fat percentage is 20% (24 lbs. fat, 96 lbs. lean)
Your lean mass is 96 lbs. (43.6 kilos)
Your BMR = 370 + (21.6 X 43.6) = 1312 calories
To determine TDEE from BMR, you simply multiply BMR by the activity multiplier:
Example:
Your BMR is 1312
Your activity level is moderately active (work out 3-4 times per week)
Your activity factor is 1.55
Your TDEE = 1.55 X 1312 = 2033 calories
Activity Multiplier
Sedentary = BMR X 1.2 (little or no exercise, desk job)
Lightly active = BMR X 1.375 (light exercise/sports 1-3 days/wk)
Mod. active = BMR X 1.55 (moderate exercise/sports 3-5 days/wk)
Very active = BMR X 1.725 (hard exercise/sports 6-7 days/wk)
Extr. active = BMR X 1.9 (hard daily exercise/sports & physical job or 2X day training, i.e marathon, contest etc.)
I believe when I took my bodyfat to determine mine, the oMoron had me at 18% bodyfat -- I threw this all together about a week ago. I can't remember exactly, but I'll check my bodyfat in the morning to make sure it's somewhere close to that. It looks like 18 to 20% to me when I look in the mirror.

Ok, thanks. I am familiar with both KM and HB. I tend to think that the activity factors are overstated. Or maybe I just don't work hard enough in the gym.
I'll be reading with mucho interest here.
Hibiscus09
09-04-2006, 04:56 PM
I always count myself as moderately active. I figure I must at least be moderately active. I certainly hope so anyway. :D
One thing I did learn along the way -- mostly from Pam -- is that I was not eating enough by assuming I did not need as much food as I actually did to gain mass. She bumped my calories up from the 1,300 to 1,500 range to the 2,000 to 2,100 range almost immediately and that worked like a charm. My weight went up and my bodyfat went down and that's always a nice combination. :)
Hopefully, it will work this time. :p

I think a "before" bikini photo is in order here...purely in the interest of closely monitoring your progress ;)
What will you be using for your fats?

I'm watching football inbetween posts here! :) Florida State vs. Miami
I usually use extra virgin olive oil, but today I bought Enova oil. Have any of you ever used it? I also use salmon, almonds and sometimes natural P.B.
Ummm, and I think I will take before photos tomorrow, but I doubt very seriously I'll want to share them due to excess blubber. I'll save them and perhaps show them later when I show the afters.

Looks like a good solid plan, Hibby. Good luck with it. Do you think you might compete again someday?
jmc53
09-04-2006, 06:06 PM
I tend to think that the activity factors are overstated.
I hadn't seen it worked out that way before.
I did the numbers for myself, and used the 1.55 activity factor, and it came to 3170 cals. That seems right to me, I have determined by the unscientific method of "trial and error" that I need 3300+ to build muscle.
Looking forward to watching progress Hibby.
Jason.
Good looking plan. Best of luck to you. We'll be watching! :)

Good morning and thank you guys!
ms_mac -- I kind of doubt it. I never say never. :) Thanks for your comments!
Hi Jason! Thanks!
Thank you, dbx!
Here's my starting stats. I'll have to keep this in a word file so I can just cut and paste each time I check them. :)
Weight: 123lbs
Bodyfat: 17.9%, 18.1% -- averaged to 18%
Lean Mass: 100.86
Blubber: 22.14
My workouts have me doing back today, but since I missed yesterday's workout and back is what I did last time I worked out, I'm going to adjust my schedule to: Tuesday: Chest/triceps/abs/cardio, Wednesday: cardio, Thursday: Leggies, Friday: Shoulders/abs/cardio
Week 1
Week 1:
1,800 calories at 45%P/30%C/25%F
So, that’s 202P/135C/50F
So, 5 meals = 34P/23C/10F, 1 meal = 34P/23C/0F
Happy Tuesday!!

overall, what kind of wt. gain are you hoping to achieve with this bulk???
Have a great day Diane!! :)
Hibiscus09

Morning, Barb! :)
I haven't a clue -- my usual state of being. :D
When I did this with Pam, I topped out at 129 or 130lbs and 108lbs of muscle before we started heading in the other direction. It may be a slow start for me as I'm starting out at 1,800 calories, however, to minimize fat gain I'd rather slowly up my calories. We'll see what happens.
According to Tom Venuto when using the correct number and type of calories (along with the rest of the kit and kaboodle -- training and rest), the average male should be able to gain .5 to 1lb of lean muscle a week. The average gain for women is "slightly less." Mine may actually be significantly less as I've never noticed my body having a tendency to muscle-up very much.
Venuto also states that according to studies by a Dr. Evans, we may need 100 calories less per decade to maintain our bodyweight. However, he does go on to point out that athletes many times underestimate their caloric needs.
Finally, he points out that after three to four months, the rate of muscular gain slows down -- which will be just fine because by then I'll be finished bulking. :D
Heck, I'll be happy just to see the 105lbs of lean mass mark again -- so let's pray for that. :p

Here's today's workout fun so far:
Warmup 7 minutes on the elliptical
Incline Dumbbell Bench Press
8 reps X 25lb dbs
8 reps X 35lb dbs
0 reps X 40lb dbs *LOL! I sure as Hell tried though. I'll get there soon! They were suspended midway stalled out. :p
6 reps X 30lb dbs
Dips*a work in progress
5, 5, 4
Incline Flyes
8 reps X 20lb dbs
8 reps X 25lb dbs
5 reps X 25lb dbs*I was feeling these for some reason today. Pooters!
EZ Curl Skullcrushers
8 reps X 30lbs*Rut roh -- someone wasn't paying attention as she was running through her head future workout schemes instead of focusing on what she was doing. The result? The dang bench wasn't pinned in all the way and fell backwards a notch. Always shocking while holding weights. 5 lashes with a wet noodle.
8 reps X 40lbs
5 reps X 50lbs*I'll take it! :D
Bench Dips*I use my bench and my high step for my feet.
15, 15, 15
Stability Ball Crunches
20 reps holding 10lb plate X 3 sets
Roman Chair Leg Raises -- knees up - not ready for the straight out ahead of me yet
15, 15, 15
That was all my fun and excitement for lifting today. I still want to get in 30 minutes of cardio, but decided that perhaps I should wait until late afternoon instead of right after my workout since I'm trying to add mass.
That's all.

Thank you, Jason! :) Brittany bought me (and I thought this was very thoughtful) a yoga mat, a yoga block and a yoga strap. Little B bought me some black sunglasses because I had lost mine recently. Big B is letting me go on a spree for Fall clothes, but I haven't shopped for them yet as it won't get cool here until mid to late October, if then. :p
Okie dokes -- just turned in 30 minutes on the elliptical. I hate doing 30 minutes of cardio. I'm just getting going, the endorphins have kicked in, and I'm thinking happy thoughts while listening to music -- then, it's time to stop. I'll be glad when I get to do a bit more. :)

Yep -- mine looks like this. Some have arms that move also, but I don't like those because my arms aren't long enough. :D I just don't hold on and pump my arms instead. I love it -- it has a variety of courses, or I can choose manual. It also has a resistance setting and an incline up to 14%.

So, as I said before, it's cardio today. I've missed the early week yoga class, so I'll be doing my yoga on Thursday and Sunday this week.

Thank you, MM! :) Sometimes I just try to pretend there isn't cleaning to do -- that's what I did on my birthday. Unfortunately, that comes back to bite me later. :p
Yoga was a lot of fun today, but hard work. She decided she was going to work on our shoulders (of course, on the day I'm doing shoulders. ) and serratus(serrati?). She also partnered us up for a variety of poses and lucky me -- I was right by her and she grabbed me as a partner. We did these double squat thingies -- holding hands, facing each other and squatting way low and pulling on each others arms. I was glad she didn't let go. LOL We also were face down on the floor while our partner straddled us and pulled our shoulders back and together while we pressed our pelvises (LOL -- that looks funny to me also -- pelvi? :D ) down into the floor, along with our quads, feet, etc. I think that my yogi is a dominatrix also. :D
Well, that's one thing down for the day and I'm still on a roll eating healthy, drinking my water, taking my vities, etc. Woo-hoo! Go me!

Ha,ha Barb! I'd like it better if I could choose my partner! :D
:D Hiya Chris!
Cool, GF! I think Brian wanted it for football. :)
Alrighty -- I'm sitting here drinking chocolate whey and have 2/3 cups of Kashi Go Lean. Man, it's a wonder I haven't broken a tooth eating this stuff. It sure is crunchy.
I did shoulders/abs/cardio tonight. I forgot my calves. I'll throw them in tomorrow doing leggies.
So, before I type my workout I want to comment about the mirrors in my gym. I'm used to mirrors as the commercial gyms have them. What I'm not used to is how much I watch myself in the mirror when noone is watching me. I've always used them for form, but now I watch myself stretching , cardio-ing, etc. I'm worried I'll start licking the mirror soon. :D Seriously, I'm not preening at all, but I'm certainly aware of my body now. I'll shut up -- this is all not sounding right. LOL
I read an article that suggested doing lateral raises and rear raises before doing presses to really warm up the shoulder area. I figured I'd try that as my rotator cuff likes to act aggravated on and off.
First, I warmed up for 16 minutes on the elliptical (a long warmup, but I was into the music).
Next, I did a weird little triple set of side laterals, external rotations (thank you, Joel) and broomstick stretches. How's that for a strange combination? I don't think I built much mass with this routine.
Side Laterals*I could tell immediately my rotator cuff was going to complain today.
15 reps X 10lb dbs
10 reps X 15lb dbs
10 reps X 15lb dbs
External Rotations
10 reps each arm with 10lb db X 3 sets
Broomstick Stretches
10 reps X 3 sets
Believe it or not, my shoulders were burning after that torture. I guess it was the no rest between exercises.
Push Presses
10 reps X 30lbs
10 reps X 40lbs
8 reps X 40lbs
8 reps X 40lbs
Then , I wasn't sure I had worked them enough with those -- why, I don't know so I tried to do standing military presses.
6 reps X 25lb dbs
5 reps X 25lb dbs *Okay, I guess I did work them enough.
Supermans*I hate these little mothers.
10 reps holding 10lb dbs X 3 sets
Superset Cable Crunches with those V-up thingies for lower abs with me hanging off the end of the bench. I don't know what they're called. I just know they burn.
Cable Crunches*this ProSpot has been driving me crazy because I can't use as heavy weights on it, but I was whining to Brian about it on our walk tonight and he said he was lifting 40lbs lighter on the ProSpot than he could at the gym. I don't know why, but it made me feel better! :p
15 reps X 50lbs
8 reps X 60lbs, 7 reps X 50lbs
15 reps X 50lbs
V-Up Burning Thingies
3 sets X 15 reps
Boy, I'm long winded tonight.
That's all.

:D Kris! We don't watch porn, we're too busy ourselves. ;) Thanks about the workout!
Hiya dbflgirl -- to do Supermans, I lie face down on an incline bench, dumbbells hanging down and raise the dumbbells forward slowly but out a bit kind of like Superman looks when he's flying -- I hold this a second or two at the top and then slowly lower. It's difficult to go heavy on these, but light weight burns anyway.
I was surprised I found a photo of the lower ab exercise, but I did. :p They're referred to as knee-ins in this article:
http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/hugo16.htm
I also do an exercise similar to the lying leg raise & crunch he has pictured, but on a bench and with a dumbbell extended behind me over my head (kind of like lat pullovers but lengthwise on the bench) -- when I come up I crunch up my legs and pullover the dumbbell and crunch -- so my knees are crunching up like a lower ab crunch my upper body is crunching down like a regular ab crunch. Anyway, those are great and I call them pullover abs.
The top part of the movement extended looks like this but lengthwise on a bench:
http://exercise.about.com/library/graphics/sspullover2.jpg
The bottom part looks like the bottom part in the above exercises. :D
Are you confused yet? :)

I love barley. Now I know what I want for dinner! LOL.
*********
Wild Mushroom and Barley Risotto
2T butter (you could use olive oil instead)
1 tsp olive oil
1/4 lb wild mushrooms (can be shiitake, pleurotte, chanterelle, oyster or whatever kind you like and.or can get your hands on)
1 shallot, minced
1 clove garlic, minced
1/3 cup dry white wine (the alcohol will burn off)
1/2 cup pearl barley
3 1/2 cups chicken or vegetable stock, preferably homemade, hot
Parmesan cheese (optional)
Parsley
Melt 1T butter and all the oil in a heavy skillet over medium heat. Add the mushrooms. Cook, tossing constantly, until lightly browned. Transfer to a bowl using slotted spoon and set aside.
Reduce heat to low and ad remaining butter to pan. Add the shallot and cook 1 minute. Add the garlic and cook 4 more minutes. Stir in the wine and scrape the pan to get all the nice bits mixed in. Bring heat up to a boil and then continue to boil until the wine becomes syrupy, about 4 min.
Reduce heat to medium and add the barley and mushrooms and stir until well coated with shallot-wine mixture. Stire in 1 cup of hot stock. Cook, stirring frequently until all the liquid has been absorbed, about 15 minutes (lower the heat if it absorbs much faster than this).
Stir in another cup of stock and cook some more, still stirring. Should take another 15 minutes for the liquid to be absorbed. Do this a third time with 1 more cup of stock and then add the last 1/2 cup of stock. Cook until barley is cooked through. Raise the heat a bit of the mixture is too wet. Sprinkle in parsley and serve with parmesan cheese.
*******
This looks like a lot of instruction but it's really simple. But as with any risotto, it's all about the stirring.

LOL
Am sorry Hibby but the mirror is your friend!
I used to look at myself all the time, increased everything from posture to the way I walk
keep looking ... plus you look amazing so it's a daily boost :D

Have fun with your leg w/o (eventually)..I am so green with envy over the ham/glute apparatus! They are tough on the lat tower! :)
Here's something funny for ya-several years ago I bought a horse that was very underweight. Guess what I fed her to gain? That's right--cooked barley! I used to cook for my horse! (And it actually tasted pretty good!)

That kind of grossed me out, Josie! :D
Yep, Jason -- this article shows one and if you scroll down, how it is used:
http://dolfzine.com/page578.htm
I've never tried the dumbbells version, but at my first gym I held a plate with my arms crossed over my chest to do them. I worked my way up to a 45lb plate, but I bet now I'll have a hard time doing one with just my body! The second gym I was a member of did not have one and it's been quite a while since I've used it. I loved it back when I did use it and it definitely worked my hammies. I don't know about that dumbbell move -- looks like you could easily hurt your lower back. I think I'll stick with the plates.
Here's a cool little book thingie that tells about different exercises you can perform with one:
http://www.biggerfasterstronger.com/uploads/Glute-Ham%20Book.pdf
...I hope it helps me to gain lean mass and doesn't grow me a bigger ass...
Hibby, hibby, hibby, what shall we do with you? Just a couple of days ago you were talking about the mirrors in your home gym and now this. Hey there Hib - hope you have a great weekend... and that your Gamecocks go well... Don't know if you caught this Thursday's ESPN college game - Boise State vs. Oregon State. Boise, is of course, my alma mater. Boise had an 8 point advantage over Oregon State according to the Vegas line. But, well, it didn't quite turn out that way....... instead it ended up being a 28 point spread. 42 - 14! woo hoo. Gotta love a WAC team beating a PAC 10 team.
Have a great one!

Congrats, JT! That is great when it happens, huh? :D Georgia has a 3 point line over us, but I was expecting them to have a lot more. We have some good talent, but are greatly lacking in the offensive line. If the QB doesn't have time, it gets kind of ugly. I hope the Gamecocks bring their "A" game out tonight and kick some Dawg bootay. :)
Thanks, Kris! You have a great weekend also!
Awww, thanks joed! I wish I had that mirror! :D This is a funny that happened to me this morning. I read somewhere that I'd get a more accurate bodyfat reading if I used both a handheld Bioelectrical Impedance Device and also a footscale device and then averaged the two. Now, I have never been too happy with readings from a footscale. Yet, I decide whatever and get on my footscale device this morning. It said I have 49.9% bodyfat. I don't even believe that reading. :D Brian got a good kick out of that as he was looking over my shoulder. LOL
Morning everyone! It looks like a Sunday leg day and I've messed up my dang schedule already this week. :p Last night, I was exhausted. This morning, I figured I'd do legs around 7:00 and I slept until 9:30. I can't do them now because I have to leave shortly to take little B to a hair appointment -- it's a color stripping job, so it will be a while. I could do them around 1:00 if it works out and everyone stays out of my way, so we'll see.
My nutrition has been spot on & I'm determined to get my leg day in before this week's fun is over, so I suppose I give myself a "B" for doing what I said I would this week.
Hope ya'll are having a very happy Saturday!!

Actually, right at this moment it is a pleasant shade -- his natural dark chocolate brown. :D He has beautiful hair, but just likes to give it some zing! Hi SV! I'm glad you like berries in your protein shake!
Hi FM! Thanks! Today is the last day of week one on the new plan. Woo-hoo! I've stuck to it very well so far! I did miss one 30 minute cardio this past week, but I'd rather miss that than lifting when bulking. Ha,ha about the t.v. people. Maybe I should have gone out there, because they forgot to hook up a cable box. I have to handle that this week.
Good morning everyone!! Happy Monday!
Other than the fact that I'm on my period and my bahonkus and hamstrings are screaming sore and my quads are uber tight and my back is a little achey, I'm doing freagin great!! How about ya'll?
Since I'm starting this second week of my new plan on a Monday, I'll be able to get all my workouts in this week and in the planned order. I'm going to take stats on next Monday -- every two weeks. They're probably skewed anyway now that I know it was PMS time when I took those last stats, but we'll see. They're just silly little numbers anyway. ;) I did get on the scale this morning and was .2lbs lighter than my starting weight, so we'll see what happens this week. Tomorrow, the calories get bumped up to 1,900.
I gotta tell you -- this seems like a Hell of a lot of food. :p
I don't know if I've announced this or not yet, but I'm supposed to call the freight company today and schedule the delivery of my ham/glute raise, sissy squat, and calf block. Fun! Oops, just scrolled back and I did say this. Oh, well -- I guess I'm happy about it. :p
I'm also supposed to go to the dentist at 3:15. Not fun!! :D
I can't think of anything else to blabber about. Today is chest/tris/abs and cardio. Perhaps, I will do 40 minutes in repentence of last week's missed cardio day.
Oh, and I was glad to see the Colts win last night. I just didn't want to see the big brother get beaten by the little brother. I missed the end of the game and Brian said the Giants had a really bad call made against them.
HAPPY, HAPPY MONDAY PEOPLE!! Greet everyone with a smile today. Heck, give them a hug. Lick their cheeks if you feel like it. :)

Nah, JT! Gamecock fans recuperate quickly. :D Moving on to next week. If we lose to Wofford, we'll be in mourning. LOL Oh, and they finally said the C.O. was ready for our football condo. I'm going to get on the ball and get that ready this week. :)
The equipment dude via Ward Trucking just delivered my new stuff for the gym. Now, trucking dude says he doesn't have a hand truck and he thought he was delivering to a dock. Then he asked if I had a hand truck. No, I do not. Then he said, how about a dolly(sp?) -- and I said, no I do not. So, he says well let me see if I can figure out a way to get it all out, but I'm not supposed to have to do this. Then he brings it all out on this flat platform with rollers and a handle and rolls it down my driveway and to my garage acting like he's dying the entire time. (So, obviously he did have something to bring it around to the garage.) He then informs me that he's supposed to charge me $45 for that service, but he won't do it, but everything sure was heavy. It was 275lbs, but he did have a lift thingie to lower it from the truck, so basically he was pulling it on wheels.
I tipped him $25 and was nice the entire time -- and I normally would tip anyway, but I don't like all the griping and complaining during delivery. I didn't know how much to tip for such a service. :p I even offered to help him carry the stuff or to call Brian's company and get them to bring out a handtruck.
They equipment selling company and the freight company they use need to collectively get their act together and not bring that part to the customer's door.
That's all I have to say about that!
I'm going to end up working out around 5:00 today. Too much going on and I have to go to the dentist.
Be good!!

As for the boobs - heh, mine are small, and I have people all the time think I'm a cup size larger. (They also think I'm about 2" taller than I am.) I attribute this to good posture. But I have noticed that it's difficult for women with larger breasts to hold their shoulders correctly for the very reason you mention. They don't want to put those puppies "out there" quite so much.
(me, I'm saving up to buy me some bigger ones - that'll be my reward for losing weight)

Ya'll are all so sweet!!
Okay -- first the confession -- and no I didn't cheat on my diet. :p I've been so busy today and I just landed back home at 5:49. The dang dentist was the culprit. The hygienist cleaned my teeth -- no cavities, yay -- and then told me to wait a bit for the dentist. Well, ten minutes later she tells me rut roh that he has to do an emergency root canal and it would be a while. I think he showed up about an hour later. Don't they know I'm busy? Couldn't Mr. Root Canal just suffer, so they could finish with me, I could get home and eat and do my workout? LOL -- just kidding! har,har
Anyhoo, I'm doing a Tues/Wed/Fri/Sat schedule this week. I have to do a few chores and get supper on. My family is sick. Okay, I'm done.
Mike -- thanks about the leg workout! It was fun and my leggies are sore! :)
Awww, thank you Kris! You can move in with us anytime. You don't even have to cook. We could just be workout partners and motivate each other to be all buff! :D
Ha,ha SV -- thank you very much! You're a sweetie!
Thanks, dbflgirl! 18% does feel fat to me. I guess it was the contest business that messed up my head. (Yeah, I'll blame it on that. LOL)
No, Hoosier -- you're really HOT!
Thanks, MarkY -- you're a sweetpie too!
Today, while out and about one of the things we did was completely close on our condo -- I have keys now -- furniture is getting moved in on Friday in time for Saturday's football game! Yay! Man, my week is going to be busy.
Tomorrow morning, I'm working out first thing. I can't have anything else get in my way. Then, I'm heading to get my hair colored.
Sometime, I'm supposed to fully stock the kitchen in that condo -- food, dishes, flatware, coffeepot, whatever else a kitchen needs. It all still needs to be bought. My sister is coming for the weekend. AAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
I have to get my fitness equipment put together. Maybe I'll do that tonight if I can get it out of the boxes.
Okay, I'll stop whining.
Bye.

Ha,ha -- thank God, no it isn't! I did leggies this weekend. :D They're still sore!
Today is chest day & I've been awake since 6:00a.m. I just fed the favorite son some breakfast and ushered him out the door to school with his dad. Now, I'll eat breakfast, slug down sufficient drugs (coffee) and do chest at 9:00. Woo-hoo!
Hope your day goes great, Kris!
I'm working my numbers upwards today to 1,900 -- although I must say the 45P/30C/25F ratios are starting to bother me already at this number. This means I'll be at 214P (my lean mass is 100lbs), 142C (that doesn't bother me) and 53F (going upwards) So, I'm not sure what to do.
That means for 5 meals 36P/24C/11F and for one meal 35P/24C/0F
At the beginning of my bulking plan with Pam she had me at:
140P/225C/60F -- that's 2,000 calories -- so she had me at approximately 25%P/45%C/30%F.
I'll keep on keeping on. I sure hope this works and I'm not making myself a fat ass. :p
Any comments from the peanut gallery on the ratios?

Re: nutrition. How long have you been running those macros? Just an FYI...carbs are muscle sparing. Fats are muscle sparing. I think that, if you are bulking, excess protein isn't really "helping." You'll see better progress with an increase in fats or carbs and protein @ 1.5 x LBM.
But...if you haven't been doing this very long, I'd stick with it. Stay with it for 4 weeks and reassess at that point. If you aren't seeing the progress that you want to see, make a change.
Just my $.005 :D

Thanks Kris! :) This is just week two. Thought I'd try something different. I don't know why. LOL Pam took me from 19% to 15% and from 121 to 130lbs on these numbers:
140P/225C/60F -- that's 2,000 calories -- so she had me at approximately 25%P/45%C/30%F.
Anyway, I've never taken protein this high. It's a wonder I'm not tooting the house down, but so far no bad sides. :D I'll see how I'm doing at 2 weeks -- that's my next measurement and reassess the situation. Normally I would have done less protein, more carbs.

a comment from the peanut gallery (as i sit here with the laptop in front of the TV yet again, not working or working out, eating nutella and whipped marshmellow out of the jars and drinking cappuccino mixed with hot choc and creatine)...
i know many are fans of the 40/40/20, and a lot of people up the fat intake to bulk... but i have seen big gains in my self and others on a 30/60/10 believe it or not. it is also good for people that hate to, or have a hard time cutting. even though there is no doubt the extra fats help your muscles grow and your body make hormones, remember, every new fat cell you create never goes away. you can empty them and refill, but they will be sitting there waiting, unless you get them sucked out... i am giving the 10/30/60 plan a try at present. i can feel my arteries clogging.

5 reps X 90lbs

3 reps X 90lbs Pooters
6 reps X 80lbs
Superset Pushups and Incline Flyes
Pushups Britt's B-friend told me to start doing these with my feet elevated for more difficulty. I used the top riser from my step box. I'll slowly keep elevating it more. It did make them harder
3 sets X 10 reps each
Incline Flyes
8 reps X 20lb dbs
8 reps X 25lb dbs
5 reps X 25lb dbs
Standing Overhead Extension*starting to get stronger on the standing version
8 reps X 25lbs
8 reps X 30lbs
6 reps X 35lbs
Pushdowns with Bar*Britt's b-friend said he was 40lbs weaker on the ProSpot than at his gym. Big B told me the same. It made me feel better! :D
8 reps X 30lbs
6 reps X 50lbs, 4 reps X 40lbs
7 reps X 40lbs
After that, I did 30 minutes on the elliptical!

it is hard to get zero fat in the drink if you are using a weight gainer mixed with your whey to get the high carbs... but they usually only have a gram or so. i believe if you are trying to spike your insulin for the anabolic effect post workout, you run a fine line if you eat any fats. if you have ever seen a person that uses slin post workout, but refuses to avoid all fats for at LEAST 4-6 hours after, you know what i mean. they get REALLY fat!
keep in mind i say this as i sit here eating a jar of nutella, when i should be at the gym ;-)

My hair is now all highlighted. :) !
Learning from the marketing gurus?
Highlights the day after the "before" photo!
I notice in the adds for diet products the people always have highlights in their hair in the "after" photos - never in the "before" photos.
Where I buy my protein and such there's a product advert in the window for a mens weight loss product: "before" photo of a fat slob; "after" photo of amazing abs - but in the after photo he has lightened his hair colour, whitened his teeth and also has a curvaceous young blonde on his arm!

They published that ad already??? They told me they were gonna wait and put it on the Over35 forum first. Rats! Oh, wait a minute...I whitened my hair, lightened my teeth, and have a redhead. Sorry for the interruption.

Good morning, everyone!!
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c288/hibiscus09/southernmagnolia.jpg
I hope ya'll all (edit: that may be redundant!) slept well. I did!
I have to admit, I felt like crying yesterday. I know it's because I'm hormonal, but I hate to shop and I'm having to run all over the place trying to stock this condo for freagin football games. I like the idea of tailgaiting out of the back of a vehicle. Tailgating should not involve a vaccuum cleaner, mop, broom, etc. :D Anyway, whine, whine, whine.
Today is back/biceps and abs. I didn't do abs yesterday, so I'd best be throwing those into the mix. ;) No cardio today.
After that, it's more condo frenzy. Sometime, I have to actually clean this house because I'm having company this weekend. :p
Oh, and I know I was going to just check stats every two weeks, but I can't help myself -- especially when it's good news. :D
After one week on my plan:
Bulking Stats
9/5/06
Weight: 123lbs
Bodyfat: 17.9%, 18.1% -- averaged to 18%
Lean Mass: 100.86
Blubber: 22.14
9/13/06
Weight: 123lbs
Bodyfat: 17% (averaged after two readings)
Lean Mass: 102.09
Blubber: 20.91
Bodyweight Gain: 0
Lean Mass Gain: 1.23
Please feel free to correct my math, if needed, and burst my happy bubble. :D
So, I suppose 1,800 calories is about maintenance for my bodyweight. Anyway, I have to wake my slumbering blue-haired prince, feed him breakfast, and drive him to school.
Ya'll have a super-terrific morning!

Hiya Empress! :D
Okay -- got the workout done -- woo-hoo!
Pullups/Chinups
Pullups
5, 4, 2 *started with one more than last week for the first set and .5 more the second set. :D
Chinups*I really like these
6, 4.5, 3 **started with one more than last week for the first set
One Arm Dumbbell Rows
8 reps each arm X 30lb db
8 reps each arm X 40lb db
8 reps each arm X 45lb db *I'll probably stay here for next week as the last two on the left side were more like 3/4 reps. Maybe I'll raise the first set instead.
Superset Straight Arm Pushdowns with Seated Close-Grip Rows
Straight Arm Pushdowns
8 reps X 40lbs
8 reps X 40lbs
8 reps X 40lbs*It will take forever to move up on the Prospot on these. There's just too much difference in the 10lb jump and I don't have a 5lb thingie.
Seated Close Grips
8 reps X 80lbs
8 reps X 90lbs
5 reps X 100lbs
Preacher Curls
8 reps X 40lbs
6 reps X 50lbs
5 reps X 50lbs*Yowzers -- these kick my bootie. Hope they make my biceps grow. :p
Alternating Hammer Curls
8 reps X 20lb dumbbells
6 reps X 25lb dumbbells
Drop Set: 5 reps X 25lb dumbbells, 4 reps X 20lb dbs, 3 reps X 15lb dbs*cooked!
Scoops*Britt's b-friend showed me these for abs. Man they burned!
20, 20, 20

Voila Baby! Now, off to run errands in the pouring down rain.

Awww, thanks so much stephenlouis!
Thank you, jag!
Hi FM!
Hi Hoosier! Thanks about the workout!
Hi timber! Thanks for visiting!
Hi Vanessa! Scoops are just lower ab thingies where you take your legs down towards the floor but don't touch the floor, make a scooping motion with your feet and then bring your knees back towards you into a crunch. Kind of hard to describe, but I hope that helped!
Today, I have once again run errands all day and toted some of the stuff out to the condo in the pouring rain. I couldn't get much done there because the television dudes were installing the televisions.
Tomorrow, luckily, is my day off from lifting. I think I'll do cardio in the morning and then head to yoga. After that, I'll clean this house for my company. Friday, I'm supposedly going to get everything unpacked at the condo and get all the furniture delivered so we'll be ready for the game on Saturday. (ha,ha,ha)
That's all.

Hi MarkY! I don't wish any ill-will on the kid, but I had hoped they wouldn't start him as quarterback this year anyway. They said in court he had a look of quiet disinterest on his face. He looks dazed and confused to me all the time. I'd rather see Spurrier use the freshman -- it will give him some experience even if we don't do well this year.
Oh -- and his back-up has an unfortunate last name -- "Smelley" -- and I have no idea whether he's any good or not. He seemed pretty composed when he was thrown into the game for a series or two in our first game. Luckily, Smelley is cute as heck. Otherwise, I can't imagine him being able to find a Mrs. Smelley. :D
Our main problem is we have no offensive line. I mean nothing.
Hi Vanessa! I've tried "Remember the Titans" and "Marvin Gaye" - it's not working for me. Next, is AC/DC. LOL
I'm taking a break to eat and I've become distracted because I'm unpackaging my new gym equipment and trying to put it together. That should be interesting. :p

Hey there, Hib! No offensive line? Oh, boy... that's a problem. Even if you had the best QB, he can't do a hell of a lot without a line to protect him!
My Broncos play the Wyoming Cowboys this weekend in Laramie. We're picked to win by 7 - but to me, that's a dead heat. The local cable company is still fighting with their cable company to air the game here... I'll be pissed if we can't get it. I will still be able to listen to it on the radio, but I'd much rather watch it.
Have fun putting the gym together!

Right, Mark! Hopefully, we'll be able to recruit some decent sized linemen over the next year or two or it will continue to be ugly.
Okay, so -- here's ya'lls laugh for the day. :D I'm out there trying to put together my sissy squat. The thing says it requires a 9/16 and an 11/16 wrench to put it together. I'm looking in the closet and picking which tool I think is a wrench. Yes, I wasn't sure. So, I come in here to google an image and sure enough, I picked a wrench. Yay for me. :D So, these wrenches just have "9" on one and "11" on the other -- is the 16 assumed? I guess I'll find out when I try to fit these wrenches on whatever those other things are called. :p Lug nuts? Or is that just on a tire? Bolts? Hmmmm, maybe that's what they are. I don't know what the Hell I'm doing. I am tired of being taken care of and not being able to figure out jack doodlie squat. I'll go out there and see if I can figure something out.
Pictures of the equipment will come eventually. :D

09-14-2006, 04:05 PM
Okay, I finally had a little bit of fun today. The kids came home and cheered me up.
First Britt hollered, "Mom, come look!! There's a snake in the driveway!" So out we went to check out the snake and he wasn't too happy to see us. We threw little twigs at him and he was doing the striking motion at them, but I don't think he was a dangerous snake. Next, a frog jumped along behind us on the driveway while we were bothering the snake and that made us jump, laugh and kind of creeped us out at the same time. :p
Then, the kids noticed I had put together the workout equipment so they wanted me to teach them how to do sissy squats. I spent about 20 minutes in the garage with them while all of us were laughing our heads off because they were having a difficult time getting comfortable leaning back into a sissy squat. I don't think they ever quite mastered the movement. Then they made me prove I could do them with weights & called me a freak once they saw I could.
Next, came the ham glute-raise raise lessons, but they gave up on those early. :p
Now, between the putting together of the equipment, the cleaning and the exercise demonstrations -- I feel like I've been beat up! Smile
Oh, and by the way -- little B had an excellent first driving lesson today. He was out for two hours and the lady said she couldn't believe he hasn't been driving a lot already! :)

I've noticed bb.com has been slow in the evening for a few days now. I dunno why. :)
Man, oh man:
Reason to Repent: And I just told Baldsnake via the rep system that I have nothing for which to repent (as a joke, folks!). I had two glasses of wine last night. I knew I was a whiney butt yesterday. I'm tired today also, but I'll stay away from the salse. :D
Whine: My back is aching like crazy! I guess that back workout worked! Today is shoulders/calves/cardio. It hurts to move my upper body, so this should be fun.
Whine #2: I have to pack up everything I've bought for that new condo into Brian's truck and haul it into the condo and unpack it and put it away. All by my lonesome. :( The furniture people are meeting me around 3:00 or so and the television people are still there and will be in my way, I'm sure.
Whine #3: I have to figure out a way to tote food so I don't screw up my nutrition today.

Happy Saturday, guys! :)
Hi dbx -- yep, life's been happening here lately. Hope yours is going well!
Hi Jason! The Gamecocks play tonight. Our games our usually on Saturday night, except we do have a couple this year that on Thursday nights since they're ESPN games. Thanks for checking up on my Gamecocks!
We're playing Wofford tonight, which is a smaller school. Next week is Florida Atlantic and they're pretty small also. This is a good thing because our starting QB was arrested for a bar brawl, but now the charges have been dropped. Anyway, he won't be playing tonight. I don't care for him much anyway -- I don't mean personally -- the kid just isn't that good of a QB. Tonight we're starting Syvelle Newton, who is a senior, and used to be QB but was moved to wide receiver and tailback. He moves well and I suppose is the experience we need to go against some of the SEC opponents we have to face this year. After our two supposedly easier games, we play Auburn and they'll be looking for blood.
Oh, and when I say easier teams -- I'm not automatically assuming we will win and I sure hope our team isn't either!
LOL on the quickie stuff. If I have sex before my workout, there would be no energy left to workout. ;)
Hi FM! Yep, we're all squared away with the condo.
Hi dbflgirl! Well, the setting up part has been hard work and a little fun. Hopefully, using it will be tons of fun.
This server is definitely slower as the day goes on. I never have trouble in the mornings with it.
Hi EC! I really like the boots too! :)
I hope you kiddies have a great Saturday. I have errands to run this morning, then we're heading out to the condo in the early afternoon to get the food all set up. If you open the fridge, all you see is beer, beer and more beer. LOL There are also 5 bottles of wine, 2 bottles of Crown 2 bottles of Absolute. We also have to get gin, scotch (some brand my BIL likes -- I don't drink that stuff -- it's how I cracked my head open. :D ) and tequila.
By the way, I'm not drinking any of that stuff. :) My cheat meal is tonight and I'll probably have a couple of glasses of wine. I have been keeping up with my meals, but my weight doesn't seem to be going up yet on 1,900 calories either. Maybe the cheat meal will help.

So, I see you guys have Nebraska on your plate today. Best of luck to you!! I'm all for us having double celebrations this year! :)
Wofford is small college in Spartanburg, South Carolina. It's actually a beautiful campus and I like their school colors. :D They are the Wofford Terriers.

It looks like we're the only larger school they play this year:

Lord, I hope they don't beat us! LOL I visited there once for an "International Day" when I was in middle school. All I remember is swinging up and down on their Chapel bell. We didn't get to do that for long and were sent away and told to behave. :D
