Hey Chuck I bought a bulk diet from you a while ago and loved it. Right now I am adjusting my body to more calories and reintroducing carbs and everything until next week when I will actually start my bulk. I was wondering what your thoughts were on the bulking philosophy of increasing cals by 50% for 3 days straight to boost metabolism and shock the body so as to add muscle without gaining much fat. Ive read around a bit and havent really seen anyones advice I would really trust on dieting like I do yours.

What are your thoughts? Say I am consuming 4k cals a day, then 3 days straight I bump it to 6k. Would this be beneficial at all? I would like to bulk for a short time. Call me impatient, but I like to see results quickly! Thats why I love the cut diet, its almost too easy! Any tips?

PS-The bulk diet you gave me a while back was awesome, I gained muscle and weight and dropped bodyfat. It was more of a progressive type diet though, where gains werent as quick or noticable as say the cut diet or what I hope to achieve with this bulk. Maybe thats cuz I gave you such a long period of time to achieve my goal, I should have just said 4 weeks and you could have done it :)

Thanks Chuck!

now i'm no personal trainer, but I wouldn't do it.

For me the most success has come through patience, and upping it slightly as needed. You don't have to eat the exact same amout every day, but staying within a 300 or so calorie range has worked good for me

I'll b interested to see Chucks response too. Most of the posts here are for cutting but who dosen't want to get bigger?

I've heard of a technique like you described but it was only for a day not three. Seems like 3 days would give the body a whie to figure out what's going on and start storing all those extra calories.

Thanks for the props. If you are NOT AT ALL concerned with gaining body fat, fire up the cals. I however, would stick more to cals to gain 2 lbs per week on workout day and then 2 lbs on non workout day. There would still be cal differences to charge metabolism. Then I would resommend an off MEAL say like Monday night football or a big game on saturday college day, you know to enjoy life a bit. I cannot say yeah or nay to your idea only cause I have never used it before. My calorie shocks come from different cals on WO vs NONWO days and the 2-3 cheat meals per week to have fun and still GROW.

I dont really follow the gaining 2 lbs on workout days and 2 lbs on nonworkout days? Could you explain further please. Yea I was thinking of utilizing the diet you wrote up for me, the same carbs, proteins, and fats for workout and nonworkout days but upping them during the three day period. I of course like the idea of a few cheats a week. I can already taste the sushi...

2lbs is based on the caloric intake above BMR with the activity factor figured in. Based on how you are going to train, I use an activity factor that will give me estimate to gain 1 or 2 lbs per week. Then different activity factor for NONWO days and figure the same thing.
