View Full Version : marcy MWB558 any good for 100 bucks?

im going to sport chalet to buy the marcy MWB558 weight bench...i just need a weight bench to do bench press on...is it worth it? i think it is a pretty good price because i dont want to spend that much $$$...also is that wavy bar ok for bench press? or do i have to buy a straight one? thxs alot

If that's an olympic width bench there's no way to use a curl bar for benching b/c the bar sleeves would be resting on the bar supports. It was really dumb of them to picture it like that. If you don't have any weights yet just get a 300 lb olympic weight set while you're there.

I don't know where you live but try craigslist.com and see if you can find something used first. People are always getting rid of equipment cheap, and you might find a nice bench that's cheaper than that Marcy which is just a basic department store bench.

That's the one that I use for all of my weightlifting. Except there's no curl bar, there's a regular barbell. It works fine for me, except the screws/knobs (or whatever you want to call them) have fallen out a few times.

Overall, I'd say go for it, it's a nice bench that I've basically had no problems with. Knob problem was fixed quickly and it was my fault anyways.

You need a straight bar to bench press with. The "wavy" one is a curl bar and while you could bench with it, it wouldn't be too effective or comfortable.
