You know,the suplex (which isn't a submission). I'm guessing it was one part luck and one part knowing how to fall. The amazing thing was that he came back to kimura (I think?) Randleman.

I don't take Judo or Sambo or anything with any kind of throws, but learning how to fall properly is vital to minimizing damage.

Judo, he mentioned in one of the interviews that his Judo training prepared him for impacts like that. Also, if you watch the video in slow motion he lets his body fold up completely relaxed as he hits and takes most of the impact on the shoulders.
