I was just wondering about how everyone felt about birth control, (specif. the pill) and it's effects on their weight training.

I was wondering if anyone found that being on the pill made it more difficult for them to lose body fat while training, or if they saw an increase of body fat while on the pill, while still maintaining their otherwise normal training program.

I have been training for my first fitness competition, and have recently re-started the pill, and wonder if it will adversly affect my progress.

any information or opinions regarding this topic would be greatly appreciated!

Most women do put on some bodyfat when they start the pill, some times in good areas (breasts) and some times in not so good areas (hips, etc). It does seem to depend some what on the mixture of hormones in the pill and trying different brands/mixtures seems to help. However, I have found many women use the pill as an excuse to get fat or be fat. My ex wife and many bodybuilder girl friend types are on the pill and are able to keep low bodyfat levels.

Smoothchik, I recently started the pill too and haven't noticed any adverse effects on my ability to gain or maintain muscle. The issue w/ gaining the fat is usually because of increased appetite caused by the pill's hormone levels. As long as you maintain your current nutritional plan, you should be just fine
