View Full Version : Bulking with +500 calories? Its too much!

thats just my opinion. If you bulk with an extra 500 every day, 7 days a week, thats 3500 calories a week. Thats 1 lb a week, and of course you cannot gain 1 lb of muscle in a week. Especially if you arent doing cardio, 500 calories extra just seems like too much. I know most BBers want to put on mass in the offseason, but if its not quality mass, whats the point?

thoughts, suggestions?

come on man think about how easy it would be to become a mass monster if that were true. Im at 175 right now. that means I could bulk till january 2007 and be 200lb of solid muscle. I doubt it. It would be more realistic to gain maybe 8-10 lb by january.

You guys overanalyze everything, don't ya?

Just eat excess calories. If you start getting too fat (according to yourself, not what someone else thinks), then adjust your calorie intake or add some cardio while keeping calories the same. It's not rocket science. You gotta eat excess calories to put on some muscle. You're gonna put on some fat while doing that, it's part of it. If you are trying to say lean year round but trying to add muscle, I think you're doing yourself a disservice.

I know a ton of guys that gain 1lb. of muscle a week. You do have to realize that you will of course gain fat in the time because its unavoidable.

The best muscle building state is somewhere (for me) around 12-14%

So if your going to stay at your matience calories, or just a few hundred above your matience its not going to make a big impact.

How long do they sustain such gains? I can't wait to gain 52 lbs of muscle this offseason! ;)

Yeah, gotta call BS on this. Naturally you can only put on roughly 7-10 pounds of muscle in a year.

Yea like the other guy just said if youve been training for a long while thats the max you can put on.

But the board creater is 18 where is test levels are still peaked to the max and he is still at his highest potential of growth.

Sleeplifter here it is layouted....

You can not gain muscle without gaining fat
You can not gain fat without eatting excess calories
You can not eat excess calories when you eat matience calories a day

That is why I said "ROUGHLY".....7-10 pounds per year. It does depend on many factors and yes being an experienced lifter does make a difference. But to say a person can gain a pound of muscle per week is complete BS. Come on, if that were the case than there would be a hell of a lot more Ronnie's walking around.

think about 10 lb of LEAN mass. that really IS alot. Its like taking 40 quarter pounders from McDonalds, taking off the buns and stacking the patties all over your body. Of course, the shorter you are, the better this will look. Needless to say, i would be thrilled with 10 lb of LEAN mass in an off season.

I also dont want to spin my wheels by trying to stay too lean and getting nowhere. However, if I could stay at 9 or 10% bf (i think this is realistic with careful dieting) then I come into my next show absolutley shredded around 3% and not have to diet for too long. I think staying leaner in the offseason will be a great benefit.

that's a reasonable place to start for most people.

as for muscle gain, beyond your first year of training, 1lb of actual muscle mass per MONTH would be fantastic.
