ok so I just competed in my first show last saturday (OCB Intracoastal Natural) and I won the teen divison and placed 3rd in novice. But I was looking at some pictures from the show and noticed a curve in my lower back. went to the doctor, apparently i have scoliosis. I am training for my procard next year and im curious...does any other competetor on here have scoliosis? How does it affect your training/contests? thx...

I have it, it doesnt affect my training as much but you can rarely see it in my posing, but you just have to learn how to pose around it to your best advantage.

I guess the only way you can realy show it ..is on a quarter turn or side chest

Hello, I am new here. I have been reading the threads, but have not found one, that would answer my question.

As a teenager I was pretty stupid. I had pretty bad physique, but rather than improving it I felt embarrassed and hid myself in my room, playing computer games. This had a permanent impact on my body - I got scoliosis. Later, I got a bit wiser and started to work out. Now, I am thinking about participating a fitness, and later maybe bodybuilding competition. However, I am not sure whether I stand a chance. The scoliosis is not significant at my back at all, but it is pretty bad in the front. I have slight to medium pectus excavatum (3-4 cm/1,5 inch below where my sternum should be), uneven width of shoulders (it is not that bad, but still visible, if you focus on it), uneven chest (probably the same reason as shoulders) and there are some ribs visible on the sides of my belly. I am slowly getting 6-pack, so it is less visible, but they are still there.

With all these problems, do I stand a chance on the competitions? Or should I forget about it? Don't worry, it will not influence my motivation :)

Go ahead and compete. I have a minor case of scoliosis(about a 16 degree curvature) and I just have to be extra conscious of my posing to ensure I'm standing proportional. I also have to be extra aware of my posture when I'm training to build my muscles proportionally. It definitely does affect my ability to deep squat. If I get more than slightly below parallel, my spine tends to get in a compromisable position.

I have 25 degrees of scoliosis, had to wear a back brace for two years. It actually was one of my best motivators when I started. Now my upper back is my dominant bodypart!

Brad Loomis has a spine condition (dunno if it's scoliosis or what)...

here's a pic Berto put in his log about it:

he's a WNBF pro (and I think another org. or two...)
