Well, this will be short and sweet, and won't exactly win the noble prize as I am only young and don't really have the experiance, but I will tell you what works for me.
I used to practice infront of my girlfriend, she sat below me and I practice my poses standing on a chair A)for balance improvment and B) for her to have a judges view point on things.
We would always go through the mandatories first and perfect them, by her assessing depth, defintion and width to my body. Giving me tips on what I could do to go wider or more defined.
Getting the most out of it as I am only 5ft9 and 220lbs bulked 197 contest, is hard, but possible.
Then we hit the personal favourites, as she has done a small amount of yoga, she taught me a few things, stretch the muscle while contracting it. Basically for the bicep as an example, you straighten the arm out while contracting the bicep, the tricep over powers the bi, so you can get a small pump doing this. This can work for any muscle, but is very hard to do for the back, raising your arms while you pump your lats.
So it's simple, get a girl/boyfriend who did a bit of yoga and stand on a chair, hows that?
works for me
P.s, I also practice holding poses for up to 80seconds!! Now I am steady as a rock, and I also walk around for two hours holding my abs in, it's a good effortless strength booster for that area, only a small one mind.
hopefully there was something helpfull on there as it's my first post, shows eh. . .

How can you master your bodybuilding poses?
You can can master your posing from looking at people that have experience from posing and take notes, to learn the master poses you must learn from the masters. also pratice evey chance you get exspeacially after a workout when you are pumped and you will be able to feel the pose better and if posibble do it in front of people so they can jude a little.
What are some tips for posing? one for example is just because a pose is called the front double bicep(http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/mike4.jpg) does not mean just me flex your bicep you have to flex everthing. another tip would be when posing or practing posing hold the pose for 3 to 5 seconds, one more to try posing with two mirrors one in the front and one the back so you can see everything.
What are the most popular poses? well from what i have seen the most popular ones are the front biceps pose http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/gates9.jpg and although their are more ways to do a Most Muscular this seems to be the popular one http://www.teenbodybuilding.com/wheele75.jpg
What is your favorite pose? Why? i like doing the most muscalar because i can show and flex all my muscles at ones and it makes me feel unstoppable. http://forum.bodybuilding.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=312508&d=1151034659

When it comes to wining a bodybuilding competition, just having a good physique is not enough. You should also know the art of presenting yourself as a piece of sculpture on the stage. This art is called posing. In bodybuilding, posing is a series of postures or positions which the bodybuilders take in order to show the muscular development of their different body parts. A good poser always draw the attention of judges towards his strengths and away from is weaknesses. In this article, you can find some useful tips which can help you become a great poser.
How can you master your bodybuilding poses?
Practice:
'Practice makes a man perfect" this is a phrase that holds true in every aspect of life. Same is the case with posing in bodybuilding. Posing is a difficult art to learn and not all the bodybuilders are good posers. If you go to any amateur bodybuilding contest, you will see some competitors shaking as if they are standing in a refrigerator or electric current is passing through them. This is just due to the reason that they have not done enough practice to make their posing look good. This reminds me of a competition held in my college. The chief judge of that competition was former Mr Asia Yahya Butt. There was a guy who had fairly descent physique and he could have easily won one of the top three positions in that contest but the problem was that he did not know how to do front lat spread pose and also he was shaking throughout his posing routine. The chief judge had enough of him. He told that guy that he did not know how to pose. It was so embarrassing for that guy because many people were laughing at him. All the hard work that he did prior to that contest was wasted. So, make sure that you practice your poses well before a contest. I would suggest that you pose during and after every workout because it has two advantages. 1) It will make you a good poser 2) it can enhance muscle growth. Six to eight week before competition, start posing regularly while gradually increasing the time period of your posing sessions. Give full importance to each and every pose. Practice all the poses individually and with full concentration.
Learn from others:
Always take some advice from the people who are more experienced than you in the same field. In case of bodybuilding, try to take advice from the guys who have more experience of competing. If that is not possible, ask any of your friends who has some know how about bodybuilding to look at your poses and tell you the weak points in your posing routine. Purchase some dvds and magazine of famous bodybuilding contests and try to learn and observe from them. Specially, watch the posing routines of the winners again and again. I am not suggesting that you should completely copy them but you can surely learn some effective points from them to make your posing better. Also try to watch some competitions live as a spectator to learn a little more about posing.
What are some tips for posing?
I will divide my tips in to two categories i.e tips for specific poses and some
general posing tips.
Tips for specific poses:
Front double biceps:
Hold your arms almost parallel to the ground during this pose and twist your wrists in order to get maximum biceps peak. Make sure to flare the lats out during this pose. Do not relax your thighs and abs because remember that the judges are watching everything.
Front lat spread:
Spread your lats while holding your waist and pressing it in to get as much of a V-taper as possible. Keep your shoulders down in order to get full lat spread. Try to keep your chest high because it makes this pose even more impressive. Remember to flex your legs and abs during this pose.
Side chest:
Stand to the side and go up on the big toe of your front leg to get your calve flexed. Keep your chest high during this pose while pulling the front elbow back and under your rib cage. Try to expand your chest and rib cage as much as possible.
Side triceps:
Keep your legs in the same position as you had in the side chest pose. Extend your front arm down your side and reach behind your back with the other arm to grab the wrist or fingers of your front arm. Flex your triceps as much as you can while keeping the rest of the body flexed as well.
Abdominal and thighs:
Put one of your legs in front of the other and flex your quadriceps and calves. Put your hands behind your head and crunch a little forward while contracting your abdominal muscles as much as possible. Lean your torso to either sides to show off all of your abdominal muscles. You can also switch legs in this pose.
Rear lat spread:
This pose is pretty similar to the front lat spread. The only difference is that this time, competitor’s back is facing towards the judges while one of the legs is taken back in order to flex hamstring and calve. A good and common way of starting this pose is by crunching the lats together and than showing the maximum width of lats. By doing this, you will also be able to show the definition in your lower back.
Back double biceps:
This pose is similar to the front double biceps. The only thing which you have to do differently is to flex your hamstrings and calves while putting one of your legs behind the other. twist your wrists in order to get the maximum biceps peak .
Most muscular:
Most muscular is the favorite optional pose of many bodybuilders because in this pose, you can show maximum amount of muscles i.e. arms, shoulders, chest, quads and calves. No matter which variation of most muscular pose you chose, flex all of your muscles and show others what you got.
Some general posing tips
Be confident:
Try to be as confident as you can while posing. Do not panic at any stage even if something goes dreadfully wrong. Does not matter even if you are competing for the first time try to give the expression as if you have competed a thousand time before. A nice smile will always help you look confident. Try to show that you are enjoying your self on the stage even if you are not.
Be focused:
Clear all other thoughts from your mind when you are posing. Concentrate on each and every pose. You should look professional on the stage even if you are an amateur. Do not let yourself distracted by any thing happening around you. Listen to the judges carefully and only hit those poses which you are asked to hit. (off course you will have a chance to show your talent in the free posing round).
Get the tanning right:
During last few weeks before competition start posing with the tanning products on. This will help you develop a good tan base. Do not apply too much or too little tan because in both cases, you will not do justice with your physique. Make sure to apply the tan properly and evenly throughout your body otherwise you will look sloppy and unprofessional on the stage.
Pick the right music:
When it comes to picking up the music for your posing routine always pick the kind of music that suits your personality and physique. Do not try to copy any one because you can end up making a mess of your posing routine.
Know your limits:
You should always keep in mind the strengths and weaknesses of your physique while designing a posing routine. Do not hit those optional poses which show your weaknesses (obviously you will have to hit all the compulsory poses).
What are the most popular bodybuilding poses?
In my opinion, most popular poses are the ones which show maximum amount of muscles i.e. front double biceps, back double biceps and most muscular. Most of the time you will find pictures of different bodybuilders doing one of these three poses hanging on the walls of gyms, in supplement adds etc.
What is your favorite pose? Why
My favorite pose has to be the back double biceps. It is only due to the reason that you can show so much in this pose (e.g. arms, hamstrings, calves while the back remains center of attraction). It is a fact that most of the competitions are won on the basis of good back development. Take a look at all the Mr Olympias from past and present and you will come to know what I am talking about.

TOPIC: How Can You Master Your Bodybuilding Poses?
For the week of: July 12th - July 18th
Tuesday @ Midnight Is the Final Cut (Mountain Time, US & Canada).
-------------------------------------------------------------
Knowing your poses can make or break your bodybuilding contest. Nobody wants all their hard work spent training and dieting, to go to waste just because they didn’t nail their poses.
Posing is looked at differently in different circles. In the un-educated society of our world such an action must surely mean vanity and disregard for anyone other than one self. If these people were to realize that in fact posing in Bodybuilding circles is looked up to in awe when hit correctly on a well tapered physique, they would see its benefits for everyday use.
Competitors are made or broken by how they present themselves. Learn now and you will enjoy posing and twisting to the beat of your favourite tunes for life.
How can you master your bodybuilding poses?
Truly the professionals have reached the level that they have by competing in the Olympia and NPC championships because they have learnt the ART of how to translate the muscle mass and definition they carry around into a portrait on stage, which the judges are there to critique.
From the individual sessions where originality is asked for and to the compulsory posing you must always aim to be picture perfect.
The best start would be simply to go to your mirror and practice any of the poses that you can think of.
The focus at this stage would be to show off your best bodyparts that you have. The poser concerned should keep all limbs and muscles straight and symmetrical if the pose requires as such. An example would be the front double biceps pose, the deltoids, arms and wrists must all be balanced to the other side of the body.
If the one arm is too close or too far out it throws out a potential awesome Latissumus Dorsi spread or reaching that full bicep peak and showing off that triceps depth, this will thusly make you look smaller. Do not always stick to only a few poses that you like, you must branch out so that you can try gain a greater mind-muscle connection with your muscles.
When you have gained a brief knowledge of where you look good try transition your body seamlessly from pose to pose, start with all the front bodyparts working from arms to chest to stomach to the front of the legs and finally the diamond cut calves poking form the sides all one at a time so that you know you are pushing out the muscles as much as possible.
When this is to your liking and you know you can hardly improve on it, then you can pose with the whole body. Which means now don’t only pose your upper body but your lower body as well to truly bring out the size you have under that little mere bit of body fat.
You have now stood at the mirror for ages and have tried to squeeze out every inch of muscle you can muster up to show the gains you have made in the gym.
Yet you know that there could be a better way to learn right? There must be some advice from the best in the business? Well at bodybuilding.com this is constantly happening.
This Huge website and online shopping market has a massive section on exactly what you’re trying to perfect! Posing!
http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/pose.htm
This link will take you directly to where not only Bob Cicherello (IFBB pro) is but also hundreds of other amazing bodybuilders from Darrem Charles to Phil Heath sharing their insights and analogies of this final step to Bodybuilding glory.
Not only are there articles based on the subject but commentary on videos by the pros. I myself have watched them and for myself I can say they help deeply.
What are some tips for posing?
I will start off with the basics, your going to need a full length mirror relatively wide to accompany your physique. You will need a good light depending on how you want to portray your body. Try to avoid too many shadows as that can sometimes hide more of your body than actually show it off.
Some good music which you enjoy and can really flex to is good. I am a Rock and Metal fan along with some trance which can really hype me up. “Branch Warren” is a good example of this going mental for the fans with heavy metal music which won him points and places.
So as said do not ever forget symmetry as that is important to see in your body, the eye and brain of the audience sees something as more beautiful or perfect if the two sides look the same.
That is why certain people simply look better because of the proportions in their face from eye to eye and how the ears are positioned to the face’s width versus length. Never underestimate the knowledge of knowing what the people want to see and capitalize on it.
One aspect I really see as being an essential part of being a winning poser is to have intensity in your body as you flex ever inch of yourself.
Many of you will be well acquainted with Arnold Swarchenegger and his Pumping Iron video which shows him on stage with deathly scary intensity from his face to his neck to his huge chest and his whole physique, he truly pushed his body to the limits. I myself have undertaken to try this myself with great results!
After really truly and honestly trying to literally squeeze yourself out of your body you will see new veins and capillary lines moving around your body.
I have never before had veins visible in my head and from the consistent extreme posing I have around three veins in my head which are clearly visible and relatively large even at rest now. So is it a valid effort to pose? Yes of course. Do not pose for perhaps one minute or so.
Make sure you have at least 10 minutes of spare time after your workout or after you perhaps have washed yourself up. Simply go through the motions of each pose and its uniqueness.
Enjoy it, no one is asking you to do a pose for them if you’re serious about your body you will make time for yourself to do it everyday. Push and push and push your body some more.
What are the most popular poses?
Without any doubt in my mind it has to be the One armed Bicep pose which many young aspiring weight lifters and future Olympians alike all start their weight career with, In multiple shots of Arnold Swarchenegger he has his arm up showing an unbreakable peak with that massive grin of his focusing on it.
For our purposes though I will refer to it as the double bicep pose because after a while the avid lifter will bring those guns up to flex their mettle. What can be more aspiring than simply bringing up those arms and flexing them so that they rip at your shirt giving a new meaning to stretchy elastic.
It is the simplest way to prove to your friends your simpler larger, thicker and more massive than they are. Growing arms that please the masses is not an easy job and this pose simply shows off all your hard work.
The relaxed Back pose, simply standing there waiting for the camera to click or for whoever is behind you to say hey “juice” or “animal” whatever your nickname is, is simply invigorating and powerfully dominating.
However when you spread those guns up to reveal those wide Latissumus Dorsi and thick traps along with a V-tapered waist then you will blow the crowd away.
As long as you have made the effort in the gym and with your diet you shall look awesome anyway your poise your body.
The most muscular is a powerful and potentially a lights out pose.
The arms come from the sides up, the trapezoids slowly ascend to new heights and depending on how defined you are, that upper chest crevice will clearly show the separation you have, the most important focus I think some miss in the most muscular is to keep your abdominal section in, with so much readiness going into making yourself massive you may forget to keep your abdominals tight and squeezed, you must not show any signs of weakness as this is the last pose usually called for.
What is your favorite pose? Why?
One of my favourite poses to finish off with is the “Stomach Vacuum” it is not always used although I have seen Lee Priest dominate with this pose.
It is simple; I start off with my arms hanging limp over my body showing my shoulders and trap size. Bring up your whole torso and upper body while sucking your Abdominals in and by that I do not only mean the infamous Six-pack but the TA (Transversus Abdominis) which truly brings the gut into a tiny packaged section.
Slowly slide your arms over your hair and head while keeping the biceps peaked.
You must remember to bring your chest up as much as you can to leave as little fat or thickness in the abs as possible so you are left with a massive upper body and the abdominal region is tiny and will impress the judges for how you have kept your aesthetics while keeping massive and freaky.
The final part of this pose after the arms lats and chest are in their prime is to bring the six-pack out and show off the work you put in your diet to look like that.
Enjoy posing, I first off never enjoyed feeling the pain from squeezing a muscle till it wants to explode but now it is awesome to bring that muscle up and watch as the elasticity is brought up and down or wider and shorter. You will become addicted it is a fun part of this sport. See you all on stage one day even if it is a mirror near you.

How Can You Master Your Bodybuilding Poses?
INTRO
Bodybuilding is not only a sport, but also an art form. Art in which the athlete presents the physique that he or she has worked so hard for. Great preparation comes into preparing for a contest. The grueling dieting, the non stop cardio, the tanning and the final touches. Something that some people don’t think about is posing. On stage posing can break you or make you the winner. There have been cases where more muscular and better conditioned bodybuilders lost because they didn’t know how to properly present their body.
If you miss your poses, or don’t do each specific pose by your personal and best advantage you will suffer in the placing of a contest. It’s not only important to know the name of the pose and how to strike it, but also the best variation of the pose that will make all your body parts stand out even more. It’s not all about flexing and smiling. You must learn the pose and strike it to the best of your advantage.
How can you master your bodybuilding poses?
Everyone can strike a pose. Stop and ask someone on the street to flex for you and sure enough they will roll up their sleeve and flex their arm. So is that it? Is that all it is? I can assure you that there’s way more to be learned in order to master the poses for a bodybuilding show. In order to achieve the best effect on stage you must be comfortable with each pose and you must know what you are doing. Otherwise you will portray yourself in bad way and the judges will catch it quite fast that you weren’t prepared for the show.
In order to be able to master the poses you must practice. Knowing each pose and how its performed is good. It’s essential, but not enough. In order to achieve the best results on stage you must spend hours of posing in front of a mirror. Most commercial gyms have big rooms filled with mirrors. They are usually used for yoga or stretching classes but when not in use they are open to members. It’s your job to find when that room is open (no classes) and practice for months before the show. This can usually by done after a workout and it’s a great way to stretch out the muscles groups and also track your progress.
All professional bodybuilders pose for long periods of time. It’s kind of like a second workout for them. They do what every bodybuilder, amateur or pro, does in order to look good on stage. Ronnie Coleman reportedly poses everyday after his workout leading to a contest. In order to practice right you should buy some videos that will help you do that. You can either purchase “how to” videos or you can purchase videos of professional bodybuilders and contests. In those you will be able to see how the pro’s do it on stage, how they prepare for it in detail and also if you haven’t yet, you will learn the basic mandatory poses.
After months of practicing the poses and watching videos of professionals on stage it’s time to make your own routine. This might sound easy but to the contrary it is very hard. It takes time and effort to build the perfect routine. As most bodybuilders can tell you it might have took them weeks even months to get the final routine down. You need to incorporate your posing into a set amount of time (usually 90 seconds). Since music is allowed to be incorporated with the routine, you should pick a song that is energetic, that describes you and most importantly that will seem fit with your poses. For even more detail as the beat changes so should your poses and the way you strike them. Don’t pick anything too weird or over dramatic. Stick to simple songs that you like.
What are some tips for posing?
Every bodybuilder needs to be focused and confident on stage. There are tons of tricks and tips that you learn from experience that can’t be necessary taught just by telling the person. As you compete more and more you will learn from your mistakes or from the things that you did right. Check out the other competitors and note their behavior. Check out their routines, the way they carried themselves on stage and pretty much everything they did. Although bodybuilding is about muscle mass, if you don’t know what you are doing on stage you will soon realize that will get you no where. Aside from things that you will learn here are some general tips that you should note when entering your contest.
Focus/Confidence on Stage
No one wants to see a shy bodybuilder. Actually if you think about it ‘shy’ and ‘bodybuilding’ are oxy-morons. In order to show everything you have on stage you must be confident with yourself. Now don’t get on stage and appear like a cocky bastard, but make sure you seem focused and energetic. The judges will note that as they prepare the score cards.
Practice Posing
This is an obvious tip but sometimes guys go in their locker rooms after a workout, strike out a double bi or a most muscular and call it a day. Even though you know the pose if you haven’t practiced it for a long time you won’t have the endurance on stage. You’d be surprised with guys on stage that run out of breath after the most muscular pose. I suggest focusing on holding a single pose for 60-90 seconds. Also focus on your core as it will need to be tight for almost the whole time you’re on stage (you can let your stomach rest when you do your back poses).
Have the Routine Down
Nothing more embarrassing that messing up or even worse forgetting your routine on stage. Common guys, no need to portray the muscle head stereotype. Practice your routine day in and day out as your contest approaches. You must know it in your sleep. Your confidence and focus will be even higher if you know exactly every single move right down to the last breath. After months of posing you should know your best and worst body parts. Don’t dwell too much on the parts that are weak. You will have time in to off season to get them bigger but now it’s all about presenting the best package. Bodybuilding is about illusion and your job is to present your body as the best on stage for that day.
Music For the Routine
You need to pick music for your routine. This seems simple but it has to be put into consideration. Also make sure that you do it weeks before so you are comfortable with the song that you will pose to. Also I strongly recommend making an extra or even two copies of the CD with your song. After all no one is responsible or guilty for the fact that your CD got scratched and now it won’t play.
Tanning
Tanning is very important. If you are not tan enough you will look very bad under the bright lights. I suggest getting someone that has competed or someone that has trained people for a competition to help you out. Every body is different when it comes to skin tone, and you can’t just read an article and apply. Make sure someone that has done this before is there to help you out or correct your mistakes. Nothing worse than going on stage and having a light tan. All the definition will be gone, and you will stick out in a bad, bad way.
Enjoy!
After all this is a moment that you have prepared for months. It’s your time in the spot light (literary) so make the best out of it. If you did your homework you shouldn’t worry too much. If it’s your first contest you should enjoy this and learn from any mistakes you or other competitors make. After all, this is a sport that delivers personal satisfaction, and that’s what you should get on your special day.

What are the most popular poses?
Rear Lat Spread
This pose puts great emphasis on your back and hamstring development. Your goal is to make your back get as wider as it can get while keeping your midsection small and tight. Also focus on your glutes, hamstrings and calves as they can seen thru this pose.
http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/bklat.jpg
Back Double Biceps
Another pose that gives you a chance to show off those hard earned wings. Along with that your shoulders and biceps are also portrayed. Remember to keel glutes, hamstrings and calves tight as they are also observed thru this pose.
http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/lesa4.jpg
Front Double Bicep
This pose puts great emphasis on your biceps and abs. You have to control your midsection as this is a very important time in which you have the chance to portray your V-taper. This is not the time for air breaks or relaxed abs. Flex those abs, lats and biceps. Also keep in mind that your quads should be tightened up as this pose effects them as well.
http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/97jrusa6.jpg
Front Lat Spread
All those pull ups and military presses. This pose is all about the wings. Along with that your cannon ball shoulders should be popping on each side. Remember that you midsection should be tight and a big V-taper should come out of this pose. This is the pose that will display your V-taper to its best. A lot of potential is riding on this one, and it should be executed perfectly.
http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/97jrusa5.jpg
Abs and Thighs
All those squats and only one pose? Hehe, remember that your legs should be tight in all other poses as well, but this is the pose in which you should flex them and your abs as hard as you can. Conditioning will play a big role in this pose, and all your cuts in your legs and abs should come out. Forget about breathing on this one.
http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/97msoabs.jpg
Side Chest
This pose will portray your chest, arms and shoulders. Make sure that you pick the side in which your chest looks at its biggest. Having a tight stomach is important in this pose as you want to stick out your chest and portray that upper body thickness.
http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/sdchst1.jpg
Side Tricep
As the name suggests this pose will emphasize your triceps and your chest. Make sure your abs are flexed also. This is a great time to show off the calves and hamstring/quad cut.
http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/sdtri.jpg
Most Muscular
Probably the most famous poses of all. It puts emphasis on your traps, arms, chest, well everything. You want to flex as hard as you can to get the greatest vascularity and separation in your body. I suggest doing this pose at the end as you will run out of breath and it’s not smart to do this before your Abs and Thigh pose.
http://www.bodybuilders.com/levrone7.jpg
What is your favorite pose? Why?
My favorite pose will have to be the rear lat spread. Every bodybuilder needs a large back and this pose portrays that. Also your conditioning must be super as this is a pose that will show off your hamstring/glutes separation. Also your calves will be at a display and having big calves is something that is exceptionally good at a contest.
I love this because my back is greatly developed and it gives me a chance to show off all that I can. It gives me a chance to show off my conditioning on stage and also the size that comes along with it. Having a big back is something that you should be proud of as a bodybuilder and if you do, you should certainly take full advantage as you pose on stage. Also having big calves is something that helps the pose as an overall added detail.
Good Luck on future contests!
