In my opinion Jan Tana Competition tan is useless and no good. There is only one use I had for it and thats pre-tan baking. I would wear rubber gloves and rub it in all over than go and tan and about a half hour later I would wash and scrub the excess off.

I would use ProTan brand if I were you. I also hear that dream tan is good but have no experience with it... If you go with ProTan it works best to have someone spray paint you without the brush in a well ventilated room.

Bump on what Jay said.

At my last competition I used 2 coats of ProTan and 1 coat of Dream Tan #2 and my color came out really good.

dream tan is really the only one you need. If you put 2 coats on you'll be dark enough, you don't even need a base tan.

I don't know Layne, there were guys at my show who only used DreamTan and they were looken kinda orange. I know none of it looks natural but these guys were not only NOT dark enough but they looked stained more than tanned. I am not saying the dream tan is no good... That would be dumb considering I haven't tried it. I am saying that no matter what you use a month of regular tanning helps no matter.

For my show (day of) all I used was a finishing coat of ProTan and right before going on I used Protan Hot Stuff (vasodialator and oil, and a tiny bit of muscle juice, you can use baby oil if you dab with a towel after.)

THE ONLY WAY IT'LL LOOK RIGHT IS IF YOU USE PRO TAN AS A BASE--WHAT'LL HAPPEN IF YOU USE JUST THAT IS YOU'LL MELT WITH THE INTENSITY OF THE STAGE LIGHTS..AND BROWN GOOK WILL DRIP DOWN ALL OVER YOU- LOOK AT 3 ISSUES BACK OF MUSCLE & FITNESS HERS, I DID A WHOLE ARTICLE ON COMPETITION TANNING.....EMAIL ME A FAX # AND I CAN SEND IT OVER TO YOU IF YOU CANT FIND IT...

I've never had a problem with it dripping, however I do not sweat profusely. If one sweats profusely then a bast tan is advisable.

I tanned before hand...did 2 coats of Pro tan, 1 coat of Dream Tan 2. The 2 is a reddish-orange, but looks better than the brown #1 under the bright lights.

I am not sure if this is why it worked, but for my Sat. show, we did a protan coat on Thursday, one on Friday, and touch up on Sat. This seemed to allow it to set and stay much better than applying it that morning.

Jan Tana stinks...it is pasty and doesn't spread well. Gives you a gray look. yuck!

I think a base of Pro Tan under 2 coats of Dream Tan works best. I'm extremely white though. This is me with only one coat of Dream Tan(I'm the really white guy if you can't figure it out).

This is me with 1 coat of Pro Tan, 1 coat of Dream Tan an hour later(both the night before), then 1 coat of Dream Tan right before going on stage.

I mix 1/2 Jan Tana Competition tan and 1/2 protan in an empy protan bottle........mix.......spray it on and instead of using the protan brush I use latex gloves to rub it in.........worked awesomely!!! I do save the brush for touchups at the show if needed.......It was unbelieveably quick and the color was great.......I suggested this to some of my bodybuilding friends and they love it now!

Here is a pic. of me with the color on......I am naturally pretty light and only need to use 2 coats of this stuff the night before and a touch up coat the morning of the show.

This was actually my brother's idea......so I guess I should give him credit, huh........I decided to try it because the protan alone was too orangy for my likings and the Jan Tana gave a dirty splotchy color even though it was darker........so I mixed the two together and it gave a nice golden brown not orange tan........in the beginning I sprayed the mix on and used the protan brush.......but at one of my competitions I forgot my protan brush so my only option was to spray it on and use my latex gloves that I had brung.......I thought I was screwed since I was use to brushing it on........but to my suprise it worked awesome by using the gloves and not the brush.......it blended in much more smoothly without all the splotches and streaks and the time was cut into half.
I have done this method for several shows now and it works great every time. You can also mix 3/4 protan and 1/4 Jan Tan which works well too.

I would also like to re-iterate on what someone said about dream tan... #1 is more brownish and looks more natural however you look smoother onstage for some reason or another (at least this was the case with me) The show the week after I used #2 and looked much better. Here is a pic from my first show just so you can see that it is more brownish...the #2 looks much better onstage... Using #2 gives one more of a color like Freakers.

i think with lights you might want a deeper tan. but due to lights id go with #2 but depends on skin color. and if you got the natural tan going
