I am about to have minor surgery and won't be allowed to step foot into a gym for 2 weeks, YIKES!!!! Currently I eat around 1500 calories a day; 50% protein, 40% carbs and 10% fat with no carbs after 5p. I typically weight train and do cardio 5-6 days a week and am wondering how I should alter my diet to minimize the effects of the 2 week break? Any advice is appreciated.

2 weeks is not really that long (I am only saying this - if it was me I would be
freaking out)but really it is not THAT long. 1500 calories is not all that
much. You body will need to be healing. I bet you will be fine.
When I had my surgery I was not able to work out for 4 months. It was very hard and freaked my out but to be honest with you the time went by quickly.
During that time I made sure that my calories were in check and after a week, I started walking. If you have a treadmill - walk on an incline. You don't have to go very fast but at least you are moving.
Remember to take it slow and to take care of yourself. If you rush the healing process you'll end up not going to the gym for much longer.
Good luck and keep us posted on your recovery! :)

Don't stress - i recently had surgery and was unable to do anything for 3.5 weeks i am just returning to the gym now - however i am limited on what i can do ( i had surgery on my mouth but a tendon in my arm was injured in the process coz of the drip which has prolonged the healing process grrr!!) Anyway, i tried to reduce my calories in the first few days and not eat carbs but it was not a good idea - i was very weak and not feeling well. Your body needs sufficient energy to recover - i would not alter much at all - listen to your body and let it guide you. Don't rush back to the gym, take it slow and maybe try a walk when you feel able, then you can decide when YOU can handle more.
Don't stress - you may even find that the rest does you good and that when you return to training you will be more energised and motivated than before (worked 4 me)
good luck :)

Thanks for all the encouragement. I am still 2 1/2 weeks out from surgery so I'm making sure to take full advantage of my time in the gym. I feel a lot better about only having to take off 2 weeks, hopefully it will be a good rest period and help me bust through some plateaus once I hit the gym again! Thanks again!!!
