Putting cheap plates on an Ivanko bar is like putting the 20 dollar kMart special tires on a Lexus.

hahaha, i was thinking the same thing. i'll probably buy a custom set of ivanko machined hammertone grey plates. Maybe just a couple 45's, 35's, and 25's.

Yep. The prices you'll pay for nice plates are outrageous (upwards of $2-3 per lb). What would go well with that bar is a nice set of bumpers.

Um, not to rub it in or anything, but the fitness shop near my place has a special on an Ivanco 7' bar (black oxide color) and 260 lbs of Ivanco plates for $179.00 Is there some major difference in Ivanco bars that I don't know about?

Ivanko produces a 'cheap' black bar to go with their 300LB. weight set. That bar is rated at 85,000 PSI. The bar i just bought is rated at 202,000 PSI, meaning it's tensile strength is significantly higher and alot more resistant to bending over time. It is the second best bar you can buy from Ivanko, second only to their stainless steel competition bar. I think its a great investment for a bar that will last me a lifetime. Heres the link to the bar i just bought, the OBX-20kg. BTW, this bar retails for $385 w/out shipping:D

If I ever had like 10K to spend on a total home gym setup, I would buy the same bar and plates from Ivanko
these ones (bumper) -> http://www.ivanko.com/products/prd_text/OCB5KG.html

In reality, these bumper plates from Ivanko seem better suited to your average lifter -> http://www.ivanko.com/products/prd_text/OBP.html
Still expensive, $2.00/lb. But if you're like me and love the idea of being able to drop your weights during squats, olympic lifts I wouldnt play around with low quality bumper plates. I'm sure there is some slightly cheaper alternatives, but bumper plates are pretty expensive.

Yea, i was looking at those too. They're really nice and quite "cheap" for Ivanko bumper plates. And i love how u can just drop them and not have to worry about anything. Gotta save up tho, $90 for a 45lb plate:eek: Man, i can't wait till my bar gets here:D
