YEs, YES!! mY FIRST LOVE, Bodyboarding is awesome, I used to bodyboard every day when I lived in the dominican republic; I live on long Island, all I could say is, the damn east coast sucks for those ars' and backflips that were on that vid; Jeff Hubbard, mike stewart, those dudes fly, it's ill; thanks for that, braught many memories back, I was pretty good back when In weighed 145, now I weigh 245, lol, still try, if the waves are good I can still manage some el rollos.

I bodyboard, ride a 42inch DK board, and redley fins. I love it, I surf all around Oahu, stay away from the north shore though cause I dont want to die.

So jealous... How is the rest of Oahu, I only hear of the north shore, have you ever been in pipe, on a smaller day?
My Board is a waverebel gt (Guillerme Tamega), pretty big dude for a bodyboarder...I wish I could surf daily. There's some hardcore guys that surf the winter, unfortunately that's when the swells are there best... I can't handle 39 degrees.

Put it this way, Were not a surfing mecca for no reason. I havent been to pipe, its a little too crowded all the time. But I have surfed some awesome waves, Sandy beach is one of the best bodysurfing/boarding beach in the world. I also surfed on a beach called north bech on an epic day...10-12 foot faces rolling in with wind at 0-5 mph. the waves would pitch up and barrel exactly like pipe. I thought I was going to die taking my first take off.

Yeah it is great fun but don't give up if at first you don't succeed, its a sport with one hell of a steep learning curve.

That was a pretty sick clip but surfing tops bodyboarding. I'll take the bodyboard out when there's some sick onshore hollow closeouts thats about it. Otherwise its the surfboard!

I don't have a wetsuit, but i could always buy one... where is that spot at?? I did see a surfcast from a bodyboarding site, it showed that the swells would be at there best today, and tommorrow, with off shore winds; but I'm clueless on to where the spots are on the island, I always just go to Moses... Any info is appreciated.

Surfer here. Central Coast California. Im going to Costa Rica this summer. I ride a 6'6" thruster and a 5'11" fish. Iv got a 6'10" for the bigger days, and now Im looking for a new real gun. 8-9 footish. I personally hate bodyboarding. My roomates brother owns No Friends. I could care less cause there all about bodyboarding. The owner says he just competes on bodyboard, but enjoys surfing more.

moses is a great spot. i'm usually at lido beach but thats only because i live just north of there and am usually too lazy to drive east. some swells are better in different places depending on the direction obviously. from the pictures ive seen, for whatever reason this swell the west side got it a little better than central or east.
as for wetsuits, i used a 6/4 with a hood all winter, only time i was cold was during the blizzard in february (which was the craziest day all year) however the past 3 days ive used a 4/3 with 3mm gloves and booties and no hood and was fine.
shane: whose your roomates brother? i own 2 no friends videos

Hey thanks man! Can you still tell me where that pic was taken, thye one that you posted? or is it top secret?
What size (thickness) suit do you recommend for april-may water temps?

those arent my pictures so i dont know. most of the time if you ask those guys online they probably wont tell you.
check some more long island photos at www.nybodyboarding.com
its hard to tell you what kind of suit u need. in the beginning of april i was still in my 6/4 with a hood 5mm gloves and booties, but the other day i was in a 4/3 (and 3 mm gloves and booties) without a hood and fine. may is usually doable in a 3/2

I really want to try surfing. I used to skateboard a lot and recently started longboarding, I've also been snowboarding for about 7 years. A bunch of my friends at college surf and I want to try but the water is freezing right now and I don't have a wetsuit. Hopefully I'll be going to my friends house on the Outer Banks to surf this summer.

I usually surf lido but have had trouble buyin a 6/4 or 5/4 too much rubber! I've been watchin that temp rise and getting siked! I'll wear a 4/3 or 3/2 full with some boots but thats about it. I'll spend some time in LA during the winter when i get that itch but it looks like next swell i'm out!

I remember on a bodyboard vid of mine that featured waimea shorey the life guards message over the load speaker at the beach..."This is to all the bodyboarders, if you're going in the surf today (it was big) you better be able to save yourselves cause we're not coming for ya." :D
Still, crazies were chargin it. I think Stewart's the only to ever bust an air at that place.

I started bodyboarding over stand up when I was a kid partly because it was easier and free (you had to pay for surf boards) to ride the bus and train to the local beaches but mainly because I saw this photo of a sponger doing an air and thought it just looked too cool- like a frog u know.
I have surfed on a stand up quite a bit, but bodyboarding rules IMO.

How do you find the crowds and locals on Oahu? Are you white?
Seems with evryone wanting to "promote the sport," the beaches everywhere! are getting invaded by the wannabe X-games crew.
I don't blame locals getting agro.

Im local, im not full white Im a little dark...Its all good though if you grew up here. The crowds can get bad depending on where you go. The main thing is show respect to others, follow the rules about dropping in, apologixe if you mess up someones ride and everything will be fine. Fights start because to many people act like pricks to each other..

Man, I seen Kelly Slater (everyone's favorite surfer, the 'Tony Hawk' of surfing if you will ;) ) pull an ARS on his stand up. He just grabbed his rail and whipped it round, called it a 'Rodeo Clown' or something. Next they'll be doing barrel spins. They already mastered letting out their rails and sliding in the barrel.
As much as I think the guy's sellout, that is pretty sick.
