Hi,I`m a newbie.I spilled my guts in the last post I wrote introducing myself and it didn`t show up.I`m interested in competing in fitness but do not have a gymnastics background and wonder about maybe trying a figure contest.Or is it a physique contest?I`d like to know more about the different kinds of contests.I have some questons about bodyfat percentage and shoulder workouts too.Now lets see if this works and maybe I`ll write more and introduce myself better tomorrow. Thanks,Karen

It's called a Figure Contest and it's basically to get more women in the sport of bodybuilding or fitness. The NPC Committe figures they get the girls on stage in a suit in front of an audience it will prompt them to take it further. It's a good idea, but it's basically a beauty pagent; there are no poses, dancing....nothing to attribute to athleticism, but it is a start.
I chose bodybuilding because I have no cooridnation what-so-ever and if I tried to do a flip I'm sure I'd flip right off the stage, on to a judge.
Welcome fellow Cajun. If you need assistance with one-on-one trainers, I know a lot where you are.

Hello Ms Fit.I saw your contest pictures and you look awesome.I wrote a message in general chat "ladies what are your goals?"that tells more about me.At 5`7" 120lb.I don`t think my muscles are big enough yet and I`m 35 and want to start Somewhere.I also have no gymnastic background.People ask me do I compete all the time but I know there is a big difference in looking good in the gym and winning a contest.Sure,I`d like to know of some trainers in the Baton Rouge area.Karen

Actually you can still do Fitness Competitions. You do not need to have gymnastic skills to do really well in a Fitness Canada Pageant event (& that whole series - Fitness Universe Pageant etc). It may be different with other organizations though, but for the Fitness Canada Pageant Series, the judges actually want to see more varied movements rather than just gymnastics -more creativity and entertainment. Athletes are actually deducted marks if they do a gymnastic move but don't perform it well. If you can do gymnastic moves perfectly, that's great, but the whole routine doesn't need to be about gymnastics. My girlfriend competes in Fitness and she only had a dance background. She ended up placing in the top 10 in her first competition. World Natural Sports (who puts on the Fitness Canada Pageant Series) really encourages props & themes & entertainment.
So if you want to do Fitness, then you just need to make up a 2 min. max routine that shows your flexibility, creativity, strength, and endurance. Fitness also has a 2 piece symmetry swimsuit round (in high heels).
The difference with Figure - (at the Musclemania Canada Series of events and at FAME Canada) is that you're not allowed to do any flips or gymnastics moves. There is still a routine round but I think it's shorter than 2 mins. For that round you just have to show your physique to the judges and still be creative with it. There is also a posing & symmetry round in a 2 piece suit with heels. All poses are open handed. Figure is more soft core than bodybuilding.
The last thing you may be interested in is the Fitness Model Search competitions. There is no routine component for it & no posing round. You just have to model your physique, confidence, stage presence etc. in 3 rounds of clothing - swimwear, sportswear, club/evening wear. It's a lot of fun. Both me and my girlfriend entered it last year.
For more information check their website & you can download a schedule. They have always been very helpful and will answer all your questions.

Also, all events are open to Americans even though they are in Canada.
