I have a rifle I want to buy a silencer for, but I don't know what type of gun it is. Is there a site I can look through and find the name of the gun so I can buy a corresponding silencer that's compatible?
It might be a Springfield model...I'm not even 50% sure on that, so I don't wanna take any chances

Pics, first part of serial number, manufactur date, caliber would be helpful.
You could search picture books and what not for weeks. There have been a LOT of guns manufactured.

When he misses, the lack of or reduced report is less likely to scare off his target.

Take a empty toilet paper roll, wrap it in electrical tape and pack the inside with tissue. :D

silencers are illegal pretty much everywhere. Unless you have some sort of tactical rifle with a threaded barrel there won't even by silencers for it.

They are class III's I believe, which means you can buy them, but in some states, you have to be a police officer, agent, etc. I may be wrong and their class II's. Not sure, but I'm not aware of any federal law prohibitting them.

You have to have class III permit. But I don't think that you will find any silencer's for an old rifle, especially if it is a Springfield or something similar. Generally, silencers are threaded on.

ok, so they're class III, so that means if he wants a silencer he's gotta register it, wait months for the transfer to go through, pay a 200 dollar transfer fee or something like that? etc. etc.
This guys just screwing around though. Nobody owns a rifle capable of accepting a silencer and then doesn't know what it is lol.

I agree with your assessment, nobody throws down that kind of $ for a gun without knowing what they are buying. At least, no one I've ever met. Also, not the best forum to ask around in IMHO.

Lets see here, you're 17 which means you can't own a title 2 weapon. The problem with sound suppression in a rifle is that you have to bleed the round down to subsonic speeds for it to work well. If the round exits the barrel at a supersonic speed, you get the report and crack from that. 22lr and .45 LC lend themselves well to suppression.
Do a Google search for Doc Dater or Reed Knight, they are the 2 best suppressor manufacturers. Doc is retired now so Reed would be your best bet.

Or you can make your own suppressor. It's not tough threading a barrel to accept one.
I've been working on a suppressor design for a few years, but I don't have the machining equipment to build a prototype.

LC is too much power, it'll be supersonic.
Go with .45 ACP, +P will give you a muzzle velocity right where you want it.

I heard that a silencer on a revolver won't work at all because the sound comes not just from the end of the barrel but near the cylinder too because it isn't a complete seal

fill a shot glass with water and tape the top then tape to the end of the rifle.

I had a book called "how to be an assasin".They had a good method in there to make disposable silencers, needs to find that ****, I think I lent it to a friend...
