So I guess you all heard about my accident back in November. GF suggested that I start a "road to recovery" thread to keep yall posted on the progress. Tomorrow I go for a cortisone injection in my right shoulder, supposed to decrease inflammation in the supraspinatus tendon. At this point I have gained the majority of my ROM exept for overhead movements. The PT and the ortho both feel that the injection may be the push I need to get the scar tissue ripped free and get my ROM back. Not too much pain at this point, only when it rains. I gotta admit though I am a little nervous about this shot. Kinda hope it doesn't hurt too bad. I will rehab a knee over a shoulder any day of the week and twice on Sundays! If anyone had told me that tendonitis hurt that bad I would have called them a liar.

Needless to say, legs haven't been a problem, but upper body stuff has been a little tricky. I hope to post my progress here, and would love any encouragement you all can give. I get lots from the old man, too. He's one heck of a workout coach!!

M,
I wish you the speediest of recoveries. With the plan you are putting forth, I know you'll do great. You'll be back at full strength and then some in no time. Take it slow and sure and don't push it too much IMO. It's best to take it slow then end up injured worse and sidelined even longer.

You are going to do great sweetie !

Tell the old man to raise me some talapia, would ya ? I'll pay for the fish and the shippping. ;)

ps.............I am older then you ? ;) LOL

Hi M! Great to see you starting a thread. I feel l know you already. :) I'm sorry about your accident. I've been there, done that with the shoulder injury and cortisone shots. I didn't think the shot hurt much at all in my shoulder. I was surprised. It is Hell trying to rehab a shoulder. I am so impatient and it seemed to take a while, but eventually it does get better. I hope yours recuperates quickly.

Welcome to the site! :)

:)M!!!!!!!!!! YOU ARE REALLY HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

YIPPEE and WELCOME!!!!!!!! Although, like HIBS said ........ I feel like we already know YOU!!!!!!!

I too, have been there done that with a shoulder injury ........ I broke it a couple of years ago cycling .......... I so understand your frustration ... although, on a very bright note ................. it is finally coming around .. I have almost total ROM and really the only thing I can no longer do is an unassisted pullup! I hope your recovery is as quick and painless as possible!!!

AND BTW ........... YOU MUST BE A SAINT!!!!!!!!!!!;) :p :D
Love you Rob!!!!!!!! ;)

What a day! Had the injection at 13:45 today then came home to about 4 hours "chippio"-- that's right the big tree came down and Rob, his dad and I spent the entire day cuttin that big honker up!! I am absolutely wiped. Diet was great till dinner, ten the train wnet WAY off the track. Oh well, I think we burned so many calories out there that dinner will end up in the deficit column! Shoulder's not too sore right now, but I think it's gonna hurt like a bugger tomorrow. Anyway, that's it for today, time to get a shower and then turn off the life support. Not even gonna watch 24 tonight-just gonna tape it(that's one I never miss). Good night all and thanks for the words of encouragment.

BTW-I'm no saint, just ask Rob. But he's not so bad either!

Another long day-till that tress is gone we're working like maniacs around here. If you want a good cardio plus weight workout, just cut down a giant tree! Rob thinks he may have broken his finger-crap, once I start healing then he gets busted up!! Shoulder not too bad today, I think that some of the inj. benefits are kicking in. Just dog tired now. So nakemiin (goodbye) till later, we're off to eat.

Look who's got to be the worst journal keeper in the world. No real lifting today unless you count spreading a front-end loader bucketful of gravel--took about 2 hours with a shovel and wheelbarrow. Another job I'll be glad to finish. One good thing I discovered with all the wheelbarrow work of the past week, though, is that a loaded wheelbarrow is great for doing shrugs! Probably just going to hit the stepper tomorrow, since I work my second job then. The 13 hour days are real killers.

04-17-2006, 05:28 PM
See, told ya, worst journal keeper in the world! Got a cortisone injection in the right shoulder last Monday. Didn't hurt too bad (when Rob asked what it ffelt like I told him "like somebody poked me in the back with a needle") then came home to find that the 80 foot tree was no longer standing but laying in my neighbors yard. So we picked up limbs till about 7:30 that night. The doc told me that it would be numb for a couple hours but might start to hurt after that. I think all the limb removal actually helped keep it from getting too sore tho. We quit cuz we both ran out of gas (so did the chain saw). I started seeing some improvment in the ROM a couple of days later, and can now get it almost over my head. It's still a little stiff, but I think with the stretching and weightlifting it's going to come back pretty good. Time to start working on getting my right shoulder to look like my left again.

OK today was my first post cortisone inj. workout and YAY, I can do stuff!!
Did an upper body workout, consisting of the following:

Bench-3 sets 20x10 (these are with dumbells-easier on my shoulder)
Decline-3 sets 25x10 (also with dumbells-same reason)
Low rows-3 sets 60x10, 70x8, 75x8
Lat pulldowns-3 sets 15x10, 20x12, 25x12 (low weights, but haven't been able to do these since November)
Finished up with some delt work, fronts and lat since still having some pain with the rears (no wise comments Rob). Did a few extra reps on the right side since I still have some weakness and atrophy issues there.
Considering that overhead stuff is still a little difficult, I figure that's not too bad.
Gonna have to put off military press for a while, as well as incline BP, but it's only a matter of time before those movements come back.

Today was supposed to be legs, but it turned into cardio day instead. I had to take my 1988 POS for emissions testing (wonderful invention), and decided to run a bunch or errands while I was out. This POS has been having some issues lately, and since the other half drives it to work and has to go alot farther than me to get there, I took it for the test drive. All went well until after emissions, when the bugger stalled. I then couldn't get it to start. After about 5 minutes, it finally started back up, and I continued on my way. After leaving the bank, it happened again, only this time it wouldn't start. After about 15 minutes I decided WTF, I'll walk. I called Rob and told him what happened, and he said he'd pick me up on his way by, but by the time he got home, I was starting up the drive. Oh well, at least I got SOME kind of a workout done. 1 1/2 miles of walking with a 10 pound gym bag over my shoulder, and still made the chiro appointment on time. DOH, stupid car!

It's a :
1988 SUZUKI SAMURAI
1995 1600 16 VALVE motor from a Tracker
Calmini Adapter plate
Trail Tough wiring harness
4.9-1 low range, for those that don't habla, that means it goes REAL, REAL slow
31 " TRXUS M/T TYRES
2.5" Lifted Old Man Emu springs
Mismatched shocks which makes it a real handful in wet weather, lol!!
Petroworks HI-PO CLUTCH
Mighty Kong transfer case armour

As you can see, it's quite the custom ride in need of a new body. At this moment I'm cobbling together another one running on Waste Veggie Oil, I hit some snags with the first one and wiped out a $400 injector pump !!

Another good upper body w/o today,YAY!
Chest=BP 22.5x10, 22.5x9, 22.5x7
DBP 22.5x9, 22.5x8, 22.5x9
Back=Lo Rows 70x10, 75x8, 75x8
Lat PD 25x12, 35x12, 45x12 (time to go a little heavier since it doesn't hurt)
Shoulders=Lat 2.5x10, 5x10, 5x10
Front=10x10 for 3 sets
Rears=1.25x8 for 3 sets

Hopefully I'll be able to go a little heavier on some of these next w/o since there was little to no pain on most of these. The only exception is the rears, these have been the most difficult to do since the fall. Today is the first time I have even been able to do anything with this movement since November, so I'm making progress.

We're trying a new split at Tonto's teepee, to kind of mix it up a little. Since things are progressing well with my shoulder, they're going to get a day all to themselves(can hardly wait).
Today was push/pull and proceded as follows:
BP-3 sets at 22.5 lb then 1 sets at 10 lbs to failure
Decline- 3 sets at 25 lbs then 1 sets at 10 lbs to failure
Low Rows- 3 sets at 75 lbs
Lat. pulldown-3 sets at 45, 50, and 60 lbs-going slow with these as the movement was one that was painful not too long ago.

The declines and bench were all PB since the fall, and all done with dumbells.
I have issues with barbells, as Rob can tell you.
The lat pulldowns are also PB since the accident.
Yay, progress!!!

Front squats 3x8 at 60 lbs
leg press 3x10 at 230 lbs - increase next w/o
extensions 3x8 at 100 lbs(not so much fun after front sqats)
curls 3x8 at 60 lbs(also not fun after squats)

I hate trying to walk down those steep steps after leg day!

05-05-2006, 03:25 PM
Third day of the new split is shoulders and arms, so my 2 weakest body parts get their own day.
Shoulder movements are basically limited to rears, front, and laterals. Still not able to do overheads yet.
4 sets of each:
Lat, 4 sets 5 lbsx10
rear, 1 warm up set 1 1/4x12 then 3 sets 2 1/2x10
fronts 1 warmup set 10 lbs(bar)x10 then 3 sets 7.5 lb DBx10
just did some basic curls and skullcrushers for tri and bi, need to work on them a bit.
Still not a bad day at home anyway. Work is another story.

Push/pull again today. Started with 30 min. on the stepper, then on to the weights.
Low rows 3 sets 75lbx8
Lat. pulldown 3 sets 60 lbx8
rack chin 3 sets of 8
BP(DB) 3 sets 22.5 lbx10 increase weight next w/o
DBP(DB) 3 sets 25 lbx10 increase weight next w/o
I also threw in a couple sets of flys just for the heck of it. They still hurt a bit so I'm going really light on them right now.

Had a pretty good weekend after I got off work Sat. That was a fun day, I think everybody waits until Saturday afternoon to bring in their pets that have been sick all week long. No not much post w/o soreness at all in the joint itself. I feel it more on certain movements, especially anything overhead, but compared to before the injection, it's bearable. More like an occasional twinge.

Leg day-
front squats-2 sets 65lbx10 1 set 70x10
leg press 3 sets 230lbx10 increase weight next w/o
calf raises 3 sets 230 lbx10 also increase next w/o
cable straight leg dl 1 sets 25 lbx10, 2 sets 35 lbx10 increase next w/o
lunges 10 lb DB 3 sets x10

Does anybody know if there is a type of lifting glove available that has thumb padding but no seam on the thumb? The ones I have are killing my thumb on the front squats-the bar rests right on the seam. Or do I just have to learn to deal with it?

Jag, I thought that was a good sign too. So far I'm rally pleased with how everything is going. I was almost to the point where I thought I'd never be able to lift my arm over my head again. Thank God for PT!

Thanks for the advice Jag, I'll have to try that.
Today was arm and shoulder day. Went pretty well.

Fronts-3 sets 7 1/2 lbx10-increase weight next w/o
rears- 3 sets 2 1/2 lbx12-increase next w/o
lat-3 sets 5 lbx10-no increase yet, this is one of the movements that I still have some pain with

Overheads-3 sets 5 lbx10-Yeehaw, I can finally do these again!!!!
Alt DB curls-2 sets 17 1/2 lbx10
scott curl-2 set 10 lbx10-increase next w/o
skullcrusher-2 sets 25 lbx10-increase next w/o
crossover tricep press-2 sets 5 lbx10-increase next w/0-these really kick a** at the end of the w/o.

Found out to day that when my father-in-law had taken the window out to start replacing it, BooHa jumped through the window and landed on his head. My father-in-law just about had heart failure, thinking the dog had killed himself or something. Luckily he was ok (so was the pup)!

Sorry Jag I should have phrased that better. I work FT at one vet clinic M-F and a lot of Saturdays, but I have a second job on Tues. p.m. On tuesdays I leave my FT job at about 2-2:30, come home, grab some food, usually hit the stepper for about 20 min., then go to my PT job from 4-close. Close is sometime after 8 p.m. Occasionally we go as late as 9. Then when I get home it's dinner, then sleep. Wed. I get up at 5:30 and start all over again. It's a tough couple of days, and since leg day falls on Wed., by Wed p.m. I'm totally shot!

We switched it up again here in the teepee. Today was shoulder/arm instead of push/pull. So after the chiro appt. it's upstairs to hit the iron again.

Front-3 sets x7 started with 10 lb db but found it a little difficult so switched to an empty 20 lb EZ curl bar, seemed to go ok then. I do these with my back against a wall so I can't cheat-everything very strict.
rear-3 sets 5x10
lat-3 sets 5x10--haven't changed the weight on these, because this movement is still a little painful
OH press-2 sets 7.5x10, 1 set 10x7 (Arnolds are easier than the regular kind.)

for arms we had 2 sets of the following:
Scotts-15x8
Alt DB curls-17.5x10-increase weight next w/o
Skullcrusher-30x10, 30x8
Lying triceps extension-10x8-by this time my poor old arms were toast.

Finally starting to see some progress here. My chiro was pretty impressed with my range of motion, and thought it looked like I was starting to get back some of the muscle that I had lost, so it was a pretty good day today.

My employer at mt part time job is a huge soccer nut, and so today at the monthly staff meeting, he started a World Cup pool. He had each employee draw an envelope with a different team, and wrote down what team everyone had. Whoever has the highest placed team by the end wins either a $150.00 gas card or a $150.00 gift card to a liquor store. Lucky me I drew Ghana!! Ranked 26th out of 32. Don't think I have much of a chance here, so now I have to check and see when my team is playing so I can root for a miracle cuz that's the only thing that could help them win. Crap, my luck!

Thanks for the kind words. Hibby, I can't take too much credit on the hair color, my mother-in-law picked it:D

Since today was my long work day, and I way slacked off over the holiday, I did a short push/pull this afternoon between jobs.

BP 3 sets 25x8
flyes 3 sets 10x10
Rack chins 3 sets 10
lat pulldowns 3 sets 70x8

After that it was 15 min. on the stepper at level 4 (this is in addition to the 15 min at level 4 in the AM before work)

Busy day, so plz forgive my spelling!

Hope y'all had a good holiday weekend. Thank God for AC!!!

Jag, shoulder is doing great! Only having occasional twinges, and these don't even hurt that much. I have just about 100% ROM back, YAY! It's nice to be able to move it and not hurt.

Legs hurt plenty after today's w/o

Front squats-5x7
Leg press-5x10

I decided to can the lunges today since I thought it might be nice to walk down the stairs after my w/o.

I've had a lot of help. Rob did a great job helping rehab my knee after 2 surgeries, so I knew I had plenty of support for this. He's been pretty patient about it too, which is also helpful. Once I got the injection and the pain stopped I was off and running. It's amazing how debilitating chronic pain can be. It ruins your sleep, and makes simple activities like doing dishes or laundry or even taking a shower very unpleasant. The worst part was knowing that PT was going to hurt like a bitch, then having one day off to try and recover before going back again. I would be so painful the day after PT that I could barely function, let alone do any of the stretches or exercises. I wish I hadn't waited so long to get the injection, but I was worried about side-effects. I really didn't know what to expect.

Rob can tell you, I'm no pain wuss, either. I really hated being an invalid like that, and was really stoked when I could just stretch and it didn't hurt. It's nice to be able to just do my job again without having to worry about it hurting.

Oops, forgot to post my w/o.

Shoulder and arm day, yeehaw!
Lat-3x10-6.5 lbs
rear-3x10-6.5 lbs-increase next w/o
front-3x8-20 lbs (I do these w/ and empty Olympic EZ curl bar)
Overheads-3x8-10 lbs
skullcrushers-3x8-30 lbs
scott curl-2x10-15 lbs
alt DB curl-2x8-20 lbs
Tri ext, cross-2x10-10 lbs

Finally added overheads back in, I found that the Arnold version is a lot easier on the right shoulder, so I'll be sticking with these for a while. The only exercise that gives me any pain at all is the lats, which is why I haven't increased the weight there yet, but everything else is going pretty well.
Hope y'all had a nice weekend, it's back to the grind tomorrow!

BP-3x10-25 lbs
DBP-1 set 27.5, then 2 sets 30 lbsx6-that's about where I was before the fall.
Flyes-3x10-10 lbs
Rack chin-3x10
Pullup-3x10
Lat PD-3x8-70 lbs

Next w/o I need to increase weight on BP, and decrease the assistance on the pull ups.

Time to eat!!

LP-4x10-250 lbs(whoo hoo!)
calf raises-4x10-250 lbs
Front squats-4x7-75 lbs(I'll break this plateau yet)
pull thru-3x8-70 lbs
lunges-3x8-20 lbs

Guess who's fried!

Needed that w/o though. Last night at my PT job we had a 2 week old dauchshund puppy come in that the owner wanted to euthanize because he couldn't close his mouth. The doc thought that maybe his lower jaw got broken in utero, or was just deformed. One of my co-workers decided to keep him and adopt him out when he got old enough, but then had second thoughts when the doc told her that she couldn't say for sure if he could live a normal life. We ended up having to put him to sleep. Rough decision, and definitely not a good way to end the day. Sometimes I hate my job.

I'll try to keep this one short and sweet. Benny (the white dog) shouldn't even be alive; he was a product of a mismate and should have been euthanized at birth, but I couldn't do it. So we bottle raised him. This is the one that Rob calls the "number one son". Charlie (the boxer) is literally the miracle pup. I got him at 8 weeks old and he weighed less than a pound. He had a staph infection over 90% of his body, and ulcer in one eye, a temp. so low that it wouldn't register on the thermometer, and a blood glucose of less than 30. We tube fed him for 4 days, gave injections for the infection, applied eye meds, gave oral glucose, vites, you name it. He didn't gain any weight for about 3 weeks. At 6 months old he only weighed about 10 pounds, which was where his littermates were at when they were 8 weeks ols. The fact that he survived at all is truly amazing. I don't have any pix of him when he was tiny that I can post, but here's a couple of him now. (Benny too as a pup)

Crap, can't get the pix now, have to post them later.

Rob's parents had a shih tzu and she was one of the sweetest, funniest dogs I ever met. She would drag herself around on the carpet with her front paws. I thought she was paralyzed when I first saw her do it. Most of them are really sweet dogs, but I've known a couple REALLY nasty ones too! Ask Rob sometime about Boz!

Arms and shoulders day
Lat-3 x 10- 6.5 lbs-This is about the only movement I still have issues with.
rear-3 x 10-12.5 lbs
front-3x10-20 lbs (empty olympic EZ curl bar)

We had a Shih Tzu for 15 years hibbs, one of the best damned dogs. Muffin didn't like squirrels, chipmunks or rabbits in her yard. She also didn't like big dogs except for the neighbors dogs. She feared nothing just like Benny the little white one. Charlie on the other hand is afraid of his own shadow, lol!!

That's how Nicky is! No fear -- it's too funny to watch him approach a dog acting mean as heck like he's unaware the dog is growling & the like. :D He also chases rabbits, etc. -- oh -- but he is scared of the big cat that lives behind us. What the Hell is wrong with some people!! As you know, I work in a vet clinic. Today on my way out the door, I noticed what looked like a bag of something sitting on the ground right by the front door. When I looked closer, it was about 5 bags full of POOP! I mean, come on, if you can make the effort to pick it up, can't you walk 10 more steps inside and ask us to throw it away? No, this bag had to sit there and perculate all stinkin day, so that when someone finally noticed it, it was really ripe.
What a way to end the day!

Lucky for me!
Push/pull day went pretty well, increased reps on a couple of exercises, increased weight on another.

BP-3x9 27 lbs
DBP-2x8, 1x9 30 lbs
IBP-2x15, 1x10 20 lbs-I haven't increased weight on this one because it can still cause pain if I'm not careful, so I just did a million reps instead.

PU-1x12, 2x10 (assisted)
LPD- 3x6 80 lbs
RC-3x12

This was a great day, very intense.

I usually do the PT stretches before and during shoulder and push/pull day, but I'm not sure if these are the same ones your talking about.
I warm up slowly but thoroughly, then do some wall slides forward and to the side, along with external rotation stretches.
If you have the RC exercises handy I would appreciate them.
Thanks, Jag.

IdahoViking

I'm sure it has a name but I don't know what it is, but in involves tubing.

Pin your elbow to the side, with your arm extended outward - rotate your upper arm and pull your arm laterally across your abdomen.

Second excercise is similar, except you start with your arm across your abdomen, and rotate your arm laterally until your arm is extended outward.

Keep your forearm parallel to the floor throughout the movement.

Another excercise my PT had me do was the 'dangling-8', bend over at the waist with a dumbell in your hand and your arm dangling and 'draw' a large figure-8. Next set, reverse the direction of the figure-8. This helps stretch/strengthen the internal shoulder muscles, as well 'grind' off the calcium deposits.

Thanks for the links Jag, there's definitely a lot of info out there. IV I did these in PT all winter and spring. Gotta tell you I hated the exercises with the bands, the external and internal rotation ones anyway. They were always tough. Just for laughs I did them with my uinjured shoulder from time to time, and they sucked on the good arm too! :D I always liked the figure 8's though, and even got Rob doing them when his shoulder kicks up. I still do them from time to time, but I guess I should think about making them a routine now.

Leg day today, eeek!

LP-4x8 260 lbs
calf-4x10 260 lbs
Front squat-4x6 90 lbs
HGR-1x4, 2x5, 1x6 These things are TOUGH!
Tomorrow AM stepper should be a treat.
Time for a shower and dinner, whoo hoo, my favorite part of the day!

Thanks, Megin, we try anyway.:D
Kept it kinda light for arm and shoulder day, mainly due to the twinges earlier in the week. Rob told me not to get greedy, so I think now's a good time to take his advice.

Lat-2x6 10 lbs, 1x10 7 lbs-I'm going to keep these light for a while-this is one of the hardest motions for my shoulder.

rear-3x9 17.5 lbs
front-3x7 25 lbs
OH-1x6 17 lbs, 2x8 30 lbs on the trap bar-this went a little better than the DB version, probably because I'm not trying to balance the weight.

HC-2x10 30 lbs
Reverse curl-2x10 25 lbs
Incline DB curls-2x10 10 lbs

Steered away from tricep stuff, also due to twinging-for some reason, I get a pinchy-like sensation when doing these today, so I didn't!

Also, thanks Jag and IV, I did remember to incorporate my RC exercises today. Probably not a bad idea to continue those for a while.

Push/pull Monday again. It is one hot boogersnt here, and the heat just saps the life out of you.
I was feeling pretty good today, no shoulder pain at all, so we decided ti increase weights again.

BP-2x6 30 lbs
DBP-1x9 30 lbs, 1x4 32 lbs, 1x6 32 lbs
IBP-3x12 20 lbs-This is the most troublesome move, but went well today so next week it's increase weight time for these.

P/U-1x10, 2x6-decreased the assistance bands for the last 2 sets.
LPD-3x6 80 lbs
Too beat for rack chins tonight.

Not too bad, increased weight on 2 presses, with not too much trouble in the shoulder area. Also included some PT stretches and RC exercises as well.

07-19-2006, 09:36 AM
Mainly doing the figure 8's (I love these), but also working in the wall slides (yuck) and the one I'll always refer to as the devil..the dreaded strap. Also some doorway stretches, which I wasn't thrilled about but they are about 5000 times better than the strap. This is the one where you put your hand thru a loop in a strap, grab it over the opposite shoulder and try to pull your arm up behind your back. Not a bit fun when you have a frozen shoulder, and probably the only motion that I still don't have back to capacity yet. These things SUCK!!

This has been the weirdest week. The clinic where I work full time is closed because the doc went to CE in Hawaii (lucky duck), so I've been working some extra hours at my PT job. They only have me on for Monday and Friday so I've had lots of extra time on my hands. Very strange not to be jobbing like normal. At least my house is getting a very thorough cleaning!:D

calf raises-4x10 275 lbs

It wasn't too hot here yesterday(only about 92 degrees), thanks to the storms, but our weight room gets very toasty. I think it's because of the black rubber roof overhead. Our central air unit doesn't do much for the upstairs so we put a window unit in. Sometimes it has a little trouble keeping up with the heat.

Hooray day off!

This has been a weird day. We had some CRAZY clients! I think the heat is affecting everybodys brains around here! Then I get home and read the last couple of posts, and all I can think is that my journal is going in a strange new direction.

Shoulder and arm day went well at least.

Lat-2x7, 1x6 8 lbs-Had to drop some weight as I was losing form to move the weiight(don't want to do that)
rear-3x10 15 lbs-again had to drop some weight
front-2x7, 1x6 25 lbs
OH-1x9 30 lbs, 2x9 32 lbs
scott-3x8 15 lbs (+ 4 1/2 reps on ech set)
SK-3x7 32 lbs
IC-2x10 10 lbs
RC-2x10 25 lbs

I'm not happy about having to decrease the weight on lats and rears, but I can't see where bad form will do me much good. Just have to keep working at it.

Back to work this week, boo hiss! Today was the day of a million things to do..work, bank, chiro, then home to lift.
Today was push/pull day and I decided to change things up a little. It has been almost a year since I have been able to use any kind of a bar for bench press, so today was kind of a big day. All bench presses except inclines were done using the EZ curl bar.

BP-1x10 50 lbs, 2x7 60 lbs
DBP-3x9 70 lbs PB
IBP-3x10 20 lbs
PU-1x7, 2x9 3 assistance bands(down from 4)
PD-3x7 80 lbs (increase next w/o)
RC-1x12 10 lbs, 1x9 35 lbs, 1x10 no weight

Up till today I was using dumbells for all BP's, so I was really stoked about using a bar. I found that the EZ curl bar didn't put that weird stress on wrists, elbows, or shoulders, so as long as Rob doesn't mind handing it to me, it'll work out fine.

I was so glad to get the bench back. The best part was that the shoulder didn't fuss at all afterwards, except for a little DOMS the next day. I actually like that feeling though, it makes me feel like I really accomplished something.
IMHO I think back and shoulder rehab are the longest and most painful. A few years ago, Charlie knocked me flat on my ass chasing a soccer ball, and my lower back was painful for a LONG time. Stupid me didn't do anything about it until after I spent 3 months sleeping on the recliner, because it was too painful to sleep flat on my back. The chiro finally put it right but it took about 3 months of visits to do it. I've been seeing him for my neck/shoulder injury since December. At least I'm down to once a month visits instead of 3 times a week! I've said it before, but I'd rather rehab a post-op knee than a shoulder any day. But you're right Baldsnake, time does eventually heal.

Leg day:
FS-3x8 90 lbs
LP-1x7, 2x6 275 lbs
CR-3x10 275
HGR-1x7, 2x6

I cut it a little short today, because when I went to start my leg presses, I got a VERY intense pain in my left knee. All I could think is" Oh no, not another meniscus tear-Rob's gonna freak out!" Luckily it didn't repeat, but I followed the chief's advice and did 3 sets each instead of 4. Fifteen minutes post W/O and everything feels fine, although a little rubbery.

Lat-2x6 8 lbs
front-2x5 30 lbs
rear-2x7 20 lbs-increase weight next w/o
OH-2x6 32 lbs-may increase these next w/o
BB curl-2x5 50 lbs
Scott-2x8 (+4) 15 lbs
RC-2x8 30 lbs

=M=
08-14-2006, 03:16 PM
Push/Pull day-and this was a tough one. I increased weight on all bench presses-incline, decline, and flat-plus lat pulldowns. I'm still doing assisted pull-ups, but decreased the assistance to 3 bands instead of all 4.

BP-1x6 75 lbs, 1x6 85 lbs
IBP-2x6 25 lbs (dumbells still-these still cause some trouble, but not too bad)
DBP-2x6 85 lbs
Lat PD-2x6 85 lbs(doing these close grip, really slow)
Pullup-2x7-3 assistance bands(can't wait to be able to do them unassisted)
RC-2x12- one set reverse grip, the other overhand

I've found that the reverse grip hurts my wrists and elbows, so I'll probably continue to do these overhand. I've also discovered that the only way for me to do pullups without shoulder pain is hammer grip, so that's the way I'll continue to do them.
All BP sets except for inclines are done with the EZ curl bar. Something about the hand position on the straight bar really tears my shoulder up, and it doesn't feel too good on my wrists and elbows either. Decent workout today, I guess I had some co-worker frustrations to get rid of!

Well, Nicky has diarreah and it is yucko grosso! :p Sorry for the overshare. :D

Nice job on the workout! I've never tried doing BPs with an EZ Curl Bar. I do get a lot of pain when using the straight bar for bicep curls in my wrists and my elbows. I need to try BPing with an EZ Curl bar.

I told Rob we should try to find a longer EZ curl bar, so he won't have to hand it to me each set! It really helps my wrists and elbows.

I'm scared to post here again since you said your journal is boring as Hell! :D Hope I'm not contributing to that! LOL

Very nice job! :) I hate front squats. :p

Why longer?

on edit: Never mind, I figured it out. I'm a little dense at times.

Shoulders/arms-
BB curl-2x5 50 lbs
dips-2x8 done slowly with pause at top
Scott-2x8 15 lbs (we do these with 4 1/2 reps at the end)
lat-2x8 8 lbs
OH-2x6 35 lbs
rear-2x5 25 lbs
front-2x6 30 lbs

My shoulders are big-time toast today. We've had wrestling matches for the last 2 days with a big 105 lb Lab who needed multiple x-rays (which he did NOT enjoy). It was like being caught in some kind of machine. Then it would take another 15 minutes to get him back in his run. We did this about 8 times yesterday and 4 times today. It drives me crazy when people get a big dog like that and don't bother to do any kind of training. That's too big a dog to not have any manners. He kicked one of my co-workers in the face, then just about put his eye out with his tail. Thank god he waited until after the x-rays were finished to have diarrhea all over the place. That would have been a REAL treat on the x-ray table!

Yeah, he rags on me because I bring my book down each night to log it all down, and he doesn't. Today I had to run back down to get mine because I forgot to bring it up with me. From writing stuff down in medical records all day, I'm just not capable of keeping a journal without the weights in it. A little of my OCD coming out or something. :D

My doggie is really sweet. :) Very nice shoulder workout, M! It's cool you can do the dips despite the shoulder issues. Some days I can, some days I can't -- but I love doing them!

Happy Saturday!

Powells, we should get together at the Arnold and trade yucko vet stories at dinner some night-gross everybody out! :D

After a rough night (not much sleep), we're taking the night off here in the Teepee. I ate something (not sure what) that REALLY didn't agree with me-and we'll just leave it at that. :( Feeling better today, went to work, but TIRED. Definitly going to call it an early night tonight. I'll crash on the couch with my Finnish book, and see if I can't teach this old brain something tonight.

Talk about a creepy wakeup call today! I got up at about 5:30 (usual time), fed the kitties and went to the kitchen to make some breakfast. The phone rang, and since GF is on the road in my truck at that time, I answered it. My truck has a nasty habit of conking out at the most inopportune times. Well it wasn't the hubby-it was a creepy dude whispering a bunch of crap at me. I use my nasty "go away salesperson, don't bother me voice" at him, and he asked me why I kept saying "Yeah whatever" at him. I asked him who I was speaking to and he told me to let him talk to me and I'd figure it out. Then he called me by NAME-

I set the phone down and walked away. By the time I picked it back up again the ******* was gone. I called Rob to get the safe combo so I could have my pistol out, and kept gaurd-dog Booha close. Then I called the local cops who told me that they couldn't really do anything (big surprise-and no offense intended to any police officers out there).
I tried *69 but only got a busy, and since I've never really become acquainted with that feature, thought that meant a blocked number. I figured that I would try to call it when I got home today, but forgot to take the phone off the hook, and wouldn't you know, I got a call from #$@%!! Reader's Digest!!

Poor Rob, I think he's maybe a little more freaked out than I am (but not by much)!

No, they just made a call to my house between the breather call and the time I got home, so when I hit *69, the RD phone number was the last incoming call, not the breather. I wish that I had been a little more persistant with the *69 this AM, so maybe I would have a phone number to give my friend the deputy. Rob says he likes to scare the crap out of little punk dudes who do this kind of thing.

Well, to update:apparently I'm not that interesting as an obscene phone callee-nothing this AM (big sigh of relief).

The phone is in my name only-first and last-a screwup on the part of the phone co. The last book had only my first initial.

Pistol ready, hammer in truck. I think I'm prepared in case its a true nutcase.

Jag-you never did tell my your name, so how could I have returned that call?:D

Unfortunately, without caller ID or a *69 number, I'm SOL with identification, which truly sucks. I have lots of friends in the local PD, so they're keeping an eye out on the house while I'm here alone.

BTW, I used to shoot competitively, and have won marksmanship trophies (which are kept on display), so the Creepster will have his hands full if he ever does decide that phone calls aren't enough. Pistol is a .357 Magnum loaded with Black Talons, and I used to have a bad habit of shooting the crotches out of targets at the range!

Good shot, IV !:D

I was always more comfortable with a revolver since I have been known to jam a semi-auto. I do like our Sig .45, but when no jams counts, just give me my revolver.
I even shot an IPSIC match with it..I was the only one there with a revolver. I ended up placing 17th out 75 shooters for my one and only try.
I had a little fun with the R/O, because the rules are : Double action, automactic reload after 6 rounds. When he told me that I just said "Yeah, no kidding".

I hate autos, I prefer single-action revolvers. Safer on the quick draw, and just as fast when shooting for accuracy.

I told you if you gave me enough time I'd reveal my ignorance sooner or later! :D

I agree totally. What barrel length do you prefer? My SW .357 has a 4 inch barrell; I found the 6 " a little too unwieldy--and no smart-ass remarks from Jag, please!

I prefer the 5 1/2" barrel, though my black powder revolvers have 8" barrels - and I'm almost as fast with one of those as I am with the Colt SAA. My 1860 Colt Army replica is actually a more natural pointer than the Colt SAA is.
