Just picked up some crab traps tonight. It's been a long time. Any crabbers here on the board? Many places that I remember as a kid now have signs prohibiting crabbing and carry fines. I remember coming home from the shore and watching people hold up their crabs as you would drive by. Now you get arrested. But you can drive about 10 more miles and buy crack. Amazing.

Anyone know of any good spots that are still around -- preferably in the NJ shore area?

I asked the salesperson at the shop and they replied "the shore". I thought he was kidding, but that was his real answer.

Thanks pal. You've saved me the trouble of crabbing in center city all day and not catching anything.

I go for soft crabs in North Carolina, once in a while I'll throw a trap in too.

I go crabbing off the docks in Oregon every summer when I go on vacation. I've bought a couple of pots of my own over the years. It's fun to sit back and sip a beer in a lawn chair while waiting to pull them in.

Yea its as bad and worse, you cant really understand what its like to work for 30hrs of straight hard work pouring down rain wind pounding at you and waves smacking the sh*t out of you. Wake up 4 hrs later, your hands are frozen in a fist grip from all the cold and gripping the line. I dont suggest doing it for just one time also. You'll spend $800 on gear for yourself (boots, raingear etc.) plus if you listened carefully they went from like 300 or some boats down to i think its now 89 or around there. You should see all the guys with experince not able to get jobs and lone rangers like yourself inspired by the show i'm sorry to say wont get one. Haha but back in the day you could and it would be an experience to remember for sure.

Been a long time here, as well....spent many a summer crabbing between Surf City, LBI, NJ, and Turtle Cove (mainland side o' the bay). great times, but we just tied fishheads to string and slowly pulled them up and scooped the blueclaws with a net  great times, they were, back in the '70's

Close to where we would go "back in the day" . . . Atlantic City -- Absecon areas, just south of yours. Usually off one of the low road bridges in the inlets. Back then folks would be lined up on either side of the bridge -- sitting in their beach chairs, relaxing in the sun and tending to their lines. Now there's no one.

There's definately crab spots left though. Found this and will pick one or two spots out:
