Hi,

Im supposed to be competing on the 22nd of April. Yesterday I felt sick and got some diarrhea, I trained my legs and ignored it, ate as normal for the day. This morning I woke up (8am) I got it straight away and regulary since then (now 2:25pm) Im very worried this will cause me to lose muscle and make me appear weak and flat (I turned pale today). I have tried to keep my protein intake high, eating- chicken and turkey and also drinking lots of water. Today is shoulders and calves day, and I think ill train anyway (at home with some adjustable dumbells today though, as the gym is too risky)

Anyone have advice, or experience this themselves coming up to contest?

This is not a joke and please no smart answers.

I don't have any advice for you im sorry, wait till the pros reply, but I just wanted to give you my "Get Well Soon". Hope you find some way to take care of your health and compete in full form for the competition. Good luck Iron brother:)

1) Don't panic. You have roughly 20 days till showtime and you will be fine. These symptoms may go the way of the dodo bird in two days time.

2) Its not unusual for one to get a little sick during a diet, as you are possibly nutrient defiecent and therefore immunosupressed. Just hang in there.

3) Its unlikely that you would lose any appreciable amount of muscle during this ordeal, as it probably will not last long enough to cause any atrophy. Keep your diet on track and let your body take care fo the rest.

4) If you need to, take some pepto...there are no calories and it will probably do the trick.

5) Remember to have fun and go kick some ass at the show. Good luck.

Thank you both for your kind words and XTRMEWJ for your advice. I am unfamiliar with "pepto"??. I hope your right and it passes soon and can compete at my best! Anyone else any opinions/advice? Just keep up my protein and water intake?

He means pepto-bismal (the pink stuff) for upset stomachs, etc. Any pharmacy or grocery store should have it.

you'll be fine bro, 20 days is a long time still.
Just on a sidenote, ive had major food poisoning for the last 3 days, of the 3 days I ate nothing on 2 of them. However today I felt like i recovered, hit the gym and did a 315 lb military press. - moral - dont sweat it, get some rest, hydrate yourself, the **** will go away soon, and hit your prep hard again.

Hey guys,
I read this post a few weeks back, felt sympathy for you man... Guess what? I am sick with just 1 week out.... It is now Weds. (4-19-06), and my contest is on 4-26-06.... I have not eaten much of anything these past 2 days... I called a friend of mine who is a Physician, he recommended some electrolyte drinks and rest... I threw up 6 times on Tues.... My body weight was 160-162, it is now 158-160... I posed today, and still look good, but I am looking flat... More cuts are actually showing in my legs, but my chest and arms are looking smaller... I am so pissed off that this happened now... Everything was perfect.... I am feeling better today, did not workout the past 2 days... Basically laid in bed for the most part... I did some walking today and am feeling better.... I will probably get some pepto-bismo like recommended... The powerade drinks have been working... I have still been maintaining my BCAA intake and glutamine intake... I forced down some cereal yesterday and a protein shake today... Each time I did, my stomach hurt and felt like I was going to throw it up.... This is the worst feeling in the world... I'm still going to compete in this show, but I may not win it b/c of this bull**** stomach virus... I have also been taking vitamin C and a nausea med.. I'm getting the pepto today... I ate some low-sodium high protein chicken soup today... It didn't cause any discomfort... I am feeling good about that... I hope this thing goes away though... Tommorrow will be day 3 of this bull****... It's amazing how 2-3 days of sickness can dessimate 6-8 months of hard-work in the gym...
