So, I wake up this morning at 5am to go to the gym, but I wake up with a horrible cold! Stuffed up, runny nose, bad cough, fever... it totally sucks! I decided not to go to the gym because it would just suck.
Do you guys still go to the gym when you're sick? Or do you take a few days off to get over it?? Or does working out make your cold feel better?? I just feel really bad because it's going to totally mess up my schedule.. GRRR.

If it were the flu, you'd barely even be able to go to the bathroom, much less think about going to the gym. :)
As for colds, well, would you want to be working out next to someone with your symptoms? If your nose is running and/or you're coughing/sneezing odds are you'd wish the other person had stayed home. Fever? You stay home when you have a fever.

Seriously, stay home. Fever alone means you need to crawl back in bed, rest, and drink lots of fluids. You'll be fine missing a few days. And others at the gym will really appreciate that you did stay home :)

exercise temporarily lowers your immune system so you may end up getting sicker if you work out. it sucks, but, it's worth it in the long run.

agree 100%. Germs don't need to work out anyway. ;)

I just missed 2 weeks of training due to the nasty bug that's been going around, and I'm still not quite 100%. This flu hits you HARD.
If you really have it, the only place for you to be is laying in the fetal position in the middle of a nice warm bed drinking lot's of fluids. No gym!!! Your body will tell you when it's ready to go back to working out.

I am recovering from the flu myself. I returned to the gym on Friday after a 3 week break. I was definitely weaker, but I can see my strength coming back in a week or so. I was too weak to work out. When I tried to work out before I was ready (and I was only doing yoga) I got sidelined with a killer migraine. My body was telling me to take a break for awhile. The only benefit to having the flu was I dropped 3 pounds that I've been trying to shake forever. Lets hope they stay off. :) Take it easy and when you start up, don't start up full force. Use lighter weights and more machines for your first few workouts. Feel better!

I'm totally feeling your pain. I've been sick for oh, about 3 weeks now. Just recently got some sort of virus, something like strep throat but not quite. So it feels like I'll never get better. I went to the gym when I was just dealing with a minor head cold, but this virus totally knocked me on my ass and I haven't been to the gym in a week. Nor have I been eating that great, considering it's hard to get anything down :[ Miserable, but I plan to make up for it once I'm better.

If you even think you may be contagious, please consider the health of the other gym members and stay home.

*sigh... the dreaded evil flu...
It's made the rounds to all my friends all across the US.
It hit me for 9 days, so when I thought I had gotten over it, I was eager to get back to life as usual again. Big mistake. A week later, I relapsed.
Oh how I got fussed at by my trainer.
*pout...
I hadn't had a flu since I was in my early 20's... and if I can help it, I wont get it again for another 15+ yrs!
*poo...
Wishing you a swift & complete recovery.

Oh gawd, I had that crap for well over 3 weeks, and it sucked every minute of it. I actually stacked strep with my flu for double the punch.
If you get sick, please don't spread the infection. Stay home and get well.
Hell, I couldn't work much less get my butt out the door to train.

I feel like my muscles are deflating...is that possible after three days? Also, I havent taken any creatine but should I even if Im sick??

HA! That's just how it works.... you think you are getting better, than BAM! You feel like total crap again... back and forth, back and forth.
Glutamine would be best to help your immune system, but sadly, I think they only thing that will help you get well is a srcipt. But, it won't hurt to stay on creatine.
Oh, stop training... Rest.
