I weigh 83 kg and have done 6 month of olympic lifts and have been lifting for 5 years powerlifting and some bodybuilding stuff.. if i concentrated on just olympic lifting how long would it prob take to get ok snatch and c&j numbers like 1.5 c&j?.. o i can snatch 77 kg and my lifts r power versions will my lifts go up a lot if i learn to squat snatch?

Any advice would be more then welcome!

check out the USA weightlifting website for a gym locator they might be able to find a coach or training area near you if you're on their map.

if you learn to properly squat catch your lifts you will be able to do alot more, just with a 77kg power snatch you should be able to regular snatch about 87kg at the very least, with good technique that is.

if you're by yourself, get some olympic weightlifting shoes (VS athletics has the best buy, cheapest shoes you'll find on the net), do lots of bar work, making sure your first pull is a smooth deadlift up your thigs and then as the bar's about the pass the top of your quads, explode, thrust your hips forward and shrug, I like to hit the floor hard, this lets me squat down and receive the bar easier.

also your back and front squat will need to be OLYMPIC style for them to carryover well into the oly lifts, best of luck.

When I first started lifting, I had no powerlifting background and no bodybuilding background. It took me about a year to get a 1.5xBW clean and jerk, and about 8 months to get a 1.2xBW snatch. Now my ratios are 1.66 and 1.32 respectively, but I haven't really trained consistently for a while. Those ratios for you would give you about a 138kg clean and jerk and a 110kg snatch.

Power/squat ratios vary from lifter to lifter, and from coach to coach in terms of recommendations. Many think you should power about 90% of your squat lifts, but my coach thinks it should be more like 80% with the most efficient technique.

I compete at 62kg (136lbs). I usually weigh between 140-148 in training.

I think these numbers sound god for a 19 year old but you should be carefull not to bring your powerlifting mentality into o lifting, its two totaly different sports - power and strenght? Anyway, if you learn the snatch style you will lift more here than in the power version mainly because you will not have to pull the weight so far up, but then again figuring out the overhead squat could be a little bitt tricky.

When my front squat was 275 I did 90/111 in competition and weighed about 82kg. So technique work would help you out.

Weightlifting is a hard sport to learn. Most people don't have the patience to work hard for a year just to get their basic technique down. But that is what it takes.

As a football player I first learned cleans when I was 14, but I never had good technique at all. My max was around 230 last spring (I was 18 at the time) when I decided to work on my form and start doing a full clean as opposed to a power or hang clean. That was a little over a year ago and since then I have put 100lbs. on my max. Once you get the technique down right the numbers will go up fast.
