I live on the washington Idaho border and I can drive 15 minutes and be at a lake or in the woods or on a mountain. I don't though.

I've been to 27 of the 50 states... More than half of which I've spent significant time...

While I would love to say Minnesota because it's my home state and all, I would have to go with Wisconsin...

While MN has more lakes, WI is still more than sufficiently stocked...

Also North Central WI is a much more untapped resource than much of MN, simply due to it's low population density.

Hunting in both is premiere for duck, goose, deer etc...
Fishing... Both are premiere with more access to more fish species than any other state (Not located on the great lakes.)
DNR is very progressive and well funded...

Both MN and WI carry the most bang for the buck with well rounded opportunities, but because of the WI's more untapped North Country I have to give them the nod...

Michigan comes in a close 3rd, especially for it's UP, and MASSIVE great lakes access.

Honorable mention to the Dakota's and Ohio...

I would imagine that Texas and Alaska could rank up there, but I've never been so I can't speak from experience.

I would have said Alaska hands down. I have never been there so it is not from personal experiance.

Other than building sandcastles, I don't know what else it would offer.:D

My vote goes to the mountain states like Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, and Alaska.

Oh... I should add Montan into my "Honorable Mention" Category...

Wyoming... Though it's clearly somwhere in the top 25, for it's excellent hunting (Primarily antelope.) I don't think it's well rounded enough or exploding enough with opportunities to make it into the Top list.

Now I've never been to Alaska personally, but I've heard that one of it's drawbacks is that it's On Season is so incredibly short.

It may have a short summer, but from the shows and pictures I've seen, there is no more beautiful place on the planet. Hell, 2 weeks up there would be like 2 months of vacation down here.

I'd have to say it is a toss up between Wisconson, Minnesota and Colorado. But seems like any upper rocky mountian state or upper midwest state are always good.

Saskatchewan. Up North there be forests green with pines and flowing with rivers and lakes. The fishing is amazing, and the people you see are amazing. Pristine, virgin land as far as the eye can see, and sunsets beyond description.

I'm gonna have to throw my vote in for Wi/Mn as well. I think they're similar enough to be called one and the same.

CO might beat you in winter sports but I don't see the summer sports as near to what MN/WI has.

Not familiar with Wa. It's one of the handful of states I haven't been too.

Well yeah, IF Canada was a part of it, really anything Southern Canada is going to take the top spot... But this is "What State."

It's the largest unbroken tract of forest on the planet. Definately the place to hide out from the zombies/government/ex-wives.

Why would you ask a question with a new thread and answer it yourself? You suck at life.

it all depends on what kind of out door rec you're looking to do. i think AK is pretty high on the list. we have hunting, fishing, snowboarding/skiing, snowmobiling, hiking, etc. we have rivers, lakes, oceans, and mountains out the @ss. most of AK sucks for surfing; i dislike the snow resorts; but if you're good and have the money, the heli-riding trips would be heaven.

oh, and to the original poster. AZ? hell no. i think for a state to be at the top for outdoor rec, they have to be good for summer AND winter.

I say North Carolina. We've got great beaches (Including the outer banks where you can camp on the sandstrip for free), incredible mountains, flatlands, etc. You can go camping, white water rafting, hiking, mountain/cave climbing, snowboarding, skiing, surfing, 4 wheeling ( We've got an ENTIRE FOREST called Uwharrie for this) , pretty much anything you want to do.

Colorado... I moved there for a year so I could do alot of the outdoor stuff and I didnt even cover everything.

Some things I did/ was to do there.

Skateboarded, snowboarded, fished, hunted, rockclimbing, 4x4ing in trucks and jeeps,

wakeboarding, mountainboarding, longboarding, hanggliding/ parasailing/ basejumping/ bungeejumping, skiing, hiking (hiking trails all over),

mountainbiking, sleding, snowmobiling, repeling, camping, whitewater rafting/kayaking, prospecting (my dad had a friend who actually found gold in streams and all his wife's jewlery was made from stuff he found).

Im sure theres more but the above was the things I was interested in. On the downside theres not much indoor stuff to do there. It seems most of the people there are into being healthy and staying in shape.

I'd say Oregon is about the same as Colorado... I think California comes in close too but the hunting isnt much there and the gun laws are a bit much for me.

I wanna move to Oregon one day...Or back to Colorado, right now im stuck in ****ty louisiana.

Or Utah, it has some cool stuff, deff worth a visit... Thinking of moving to SLC area maybe.

Being from Colorado, initially I was going to say my beautiful home state. There are places you can still get away and be relatively isolated; some very beautiful places.

But really, I'd have to pick California, since it's such a big state that has something of everything, including ocean and beaches, high mountains, high and low deserts, lush green fern-type areas, Big Sur, Mt Whitney (highest point in continental US), and Death Valley (lowest point in continental US).

I'd have to say North Carolina or Virginia. Those were our haunts when we had the boat. M and I have caught just about everything there is to catch except for a Striper in the damned boat, lol! The first year we bought it and the second trip out we both hooked up at the same time and lost them both. Never hooked up again. I miss my boat! :(

California. You can drive up north to lake Tahoe and be in the snow or fish or wakeboard ect.., you can drive to So. Cal during the middle of winter and it will be 75degs out and sunny, you can drive to the dessert and have fun on the sand doons, you can go to the bay area and have a nice mild climate, you can go to the beach throughout California, you can go to San Diego and pretty much be in Mexico.

California for sure. People like to bag on Cali cause of its politics, but it's the Golden State. I live one hour from the Sequoias. One hour from the beach. One hour from the desert. Outdoor life, Beaches, Rivers, Woods, Forests, Mountains, Freaks, Snow, this state has it all. Last week I went to Frazier Park and played in the snow. Snow in California at Mid March? Better believe it :)
