Okay, i will start by saying eminem is the best, EVER. I hope BannedJeff, formerly DamnJeff, will help me out with posting some lyrics that kill. I know some of you are naming people like Run DMC and ****, but they can't touch em. Hell look at his name. Marshal Mathers, M&M, Eminem. Hows that? I know I posted this in another thread but here is Em rhyming in pig latin

he definately kicks ass but hes far from one of the best lyricists. he repeats himself all the time too.
i think when it comes to living rappers, Eminem has to be one of the best if not THE best. hell, i dont even like him all that much anymore but you just cant deny talent. personally i think that Big L had better punch lines and a better flow that Eminem.
its hard for me to say that Eminem is the best right now though cause there are so many rappers out there with incredible lyrical skills. so ill just give a list of who i think are the best LIVING lyricists:
in no particular order
Rakim
Eminem
Redman
AZ
Nas

Well, the best of all time is Big Pun... and not because he shares the same real name like me, and not because he's from the Bronx like me, and not because he's Puerto Rican like me...
1. Big Pun - One of the most underrated rappers. Not even Eminem gives him props in "'Till I collapse". Eminem actually mentions Kurupt on his "best" list which is the only thing that pissed my off about Eminem. If you hear all the songs where Big Pun rhymes with other rappers, he always outshined all of them. Listen to "John Blaze," "Oh no (remix)" "Horse & Carriage (remix)" "fantastic Four" "Banned from TV" etc... and the best duo song of all time, "Deep Cover Twinz '98." Not even Jada and Styles comes close to what Joe and Pun did on that song. If you could find a better song, Pun will still sh sh shi shi **** on you....
2. Eminem - He's probably one of the smartest rap artists out there today. Everyone today is following a formula to make hits such as get The Neptunes to do a beat for you, mention some hot spot in NYC, rock some Sean John and pimp some music videos hoes in a Hype Williams video, and you got yourself a hit. I admit Eminem has soldout on his all his first singles, but even then his videos are orginal and creative, but the others songs on the album, are nothing like the singles. In fact, the most original songs i've ever heard came from Eminem. "Guilty Conscience," "Stan" and "Hallie's Song" ('cause probably Ol'Dirty Bastard would dare sing on a song). But what people like about Eminem and probably don't even know it, it's that you could relate to alot of his songs. One last thing about eminem as a lyrists is that, he rhymes to his beats. even Em himself acknowlegde that his albums were wack, 'cause he rhymes off beat. But he almost perfected that flaw now. And on 8 mile, you could see how Eminem could do as battle freestylist. Well, that's enough of Em. I could go on, but....next.
3. The Notorious B.I.G. - I think the only reason he's up here is that no one has ever came out with a better CD, in life after death, album than Biggie, PERIOD!. The Source should have retired the Five Mics section, long ago, since giving BIG his 5 mics. Jay-Z's Blueprint, Nas Stillmatic, Outkast Aquemini, and Scarface last joint, even though classics, should all have gotta 4 1/2, 'cause they're still not even on par BIG's album.
Here's my rest...
4. Rakim - The first real lyrist to use metaphor, world play, etc. Never really listen to old school stuff as hardcore as I do today, so I don't can't go in depth about his unpopular songs. But from his greatest hits, alot a rappers still can't flow like him. And he's a pineer of lyrical rap, rappers supposed to bite his style and make it better. But then again, you can't make better what's already perfect.
5. Tupac - He wasn't a good lyrists, but he was the realest mothaflow in rap. I don't think nobody, besides TuPac would have the balls to do songs such as "Keep Ya Head Up", and "Brenda's Got a Baby" or "Changes." Unfortunately, the political side of rap died with Tupac. Public Ememy held it down for the ol' school, but Tupac was giving it creditbility for the new school.
6. Nas - He paints a picture of emotions with ghetto storylines. He does the same thing like Tupac, but states problems in society through storylines.
7. KRS-1 - Here's another one I could write a book on, but as of today, it's unfortunate, that he has no respect from a new generation rap fans. He's really gone against the grain on his new album, but he does too too much preaching nowadays. (He actually did speech at my school a few years ago.) But all you ol' schoolers know he could hang with the best of 'em, even today, if we had battle freestyles.
8. Redman - Another one with longivity. One thing that redman has has always epitomize was being STRAIGHT GHETTO! To all ya suburban people, if you wanna know how negroids from the hood have fun, just listen to Reggie Noble.

Big bump on Biggie. I couldn't even start to count how many times I've played his Life after Death cd. "Get off the Notorious P-E-N-I-S before I squeeze and bust", one of my favorite all time lines.

Good list and you broke it down real well, but I think biggie should be number one because if he was still alive his flow would have changed. He would have still been the smoothest man to ever hold a mic. That would put eminem at number two, and Big Pun at three. At least that's how I see it.
As for KRS-1 It's a damn shame that people don't know what he did for rap. I am just waiting for someone to put up Nelly to prove my point.
I think Tupac had some of the best lyrics, in that he would say things that most other rappers can't, and the man could probably write a book, and need know one to correct his grammar since he was a very educated man. His ability as orator was amazing to, his voice was a drill.

I was thinking and probably Canibus and Big L rounds out my top 10. Canibus is one negroid that you could say what Eminem said in 8 mile, "Fluck a beat, I'll go acapella...," 'cause Canibus says some ****, and iff someone could have dropped a beat on his albums, Canibus career would have taken off. And even though, he went toe-to-toe with LL Cool J, he still made career suicide by battleing an established veteran. I still can't really say who got the better end of the battle. One could imagine if Canibus would have battled Eminem on wax IN THE BEGINNING, probably would have been the best battle in history.

To the dude that said Big Pun out-shone every artist he ever rapped with, I have to make an exception; "When I Die", by Krayzie Bone, feat Big Pun, Fat Joe and Cuban Linx. As good as big punisher is, he is shadowed by Krayzie Bone. In fact, I'm yet to hear a song where Krayzie Bone is out-rapped. Sorry bro, but there is someone better than big pun. Anthony Anderson, take a bow!
Other artists worth mentioning:
Eminem: As whack as he may be, he's got some undeniably talented writing skills.
Bone Thugs n Harmony; Just awesome.
Ice Cube: Back in the early 90's, he was the king of hip hop. Listen to "The Predator", "Amerikkkas most wanted", or "Death Certificate", and you'll see why.
2pac: Great rapper, and a good writer. not the best though.
Cypress Hill: Listen to "black sunday" or "Stoned Raiders" and you'll see why I mentioned these guys. Excellent flow, great lyrics, and they actually make weed sound 'cool'.
I'll post more as I think of them.

First off, I think Eminem is a great rapper but he writes some stupid songs. Like about killing his wife and making fun of pop stars, or talking about his mom doing drugs and how he's gonna kill her. He needs to come up with some better stuff.
2Pac has the best lyrics ever. The way he rhymes to just drills it into your head. I was a fan of Biggie but I think he is a bit overrated. On my top list are :
Rakim - doesn't get enough respect.
LL Cool J - his music sucks now, but it used to be the sh*t back in the day.
Ice Cube - put out alot of great stuff
NWA - my favorite rap group of all time - what happened to MC Ren?
KRS-1 - Doesn't get enough respect either.
Grand Master Flash - the message is a classic rap song
Your all saying Run DMC isn't that good. Listen to Rock Box. One of the best CD's ever.
Big Daddy Shane

MC ren has released some solo albums over the years, as well as a **** load of features. Besides Cube, Ren was the best rapper in NWA. Check out his album "Kiss my Black Azz".
So much for the NWA reunion. I can't believe they were actually going to replace the late Eazy E with Snoop. Snoop was still sucking on his momma's titties when E was rappin about "Boyz N tha hood".

Everyone seems to think Eminem is the shiznet, but I personally think hes trash. However I will not be so quick to dismiss his talent just because I dont like the guy. There is absolutely NO denying that he is wicked at what he does. Buuuut, if I had to choose who I think is/was the best lyrical rapper of all times. Definatelt Tupac. I mean seriously, never has ONE mans lyrics been so powerful, so meaningful. It completely shows how he was a genius and at heart knew was right and wrong. He was a man who fought his inner demons but also fought the light so to say. Someone on the radio put it perfectlty, he was a torn Soul. Torn between what he had learned grown up, and what was right.
I personally think he was a great poet and a genius who knew his fate.
Just read this small part of his lyrics:
...wit a bunch of *****z dat dont give a PHUCK riding as my soldiers, release em on a war path, not your average dealer, west side outlaw, BAD BOY KILLA....
and read this:
"Murder my friends we built a new posse, we taking shots at paparazzi, go flyyyyyyy now, ***** like rocky! Gotta alota nerve to play me, anotha gay rapper, we taking shots at Jay-z while you all caught up in the rapture, still asking me, im in sipping dacharees, no doubt!...."
And this:
"...and get thi, im hard to kill when im playin with these live shots, father, how the hell did I survive these five shots...."
and:
...Talking 'bout they was looking for keys...I was home aloooone blind to the prelude, bustin, talking about where is the qualoose, watch-U-say fool, where in the hell is the search warrant, no feed back is what he uttered before he screamed ***** mother ****a dropped me to my knees I proceed to bleed, suffering a reign blows to my hands and knees, will I surviiiiiiive is God watching, busting him back, is self defense my only option? God Damn! Now they got me going to the county jail and my fanily cant pay this outrageous bill, tell me if I squeal, put me and my peoples in a mansion in brazil, not me, so this is how it ends no friends, told the judge it was self defense but he wont listen, so im bumping this in federal prison, giving everything I owe!..."
And there is SO much more! Hes a freagen genius! Way more than Eminem could ever be IMHO.

Some guys to add:
A tribe Called Quest
Busta Rhymes - Come on, how f-cking hard is it to find enough words to cram into a rap that fast and keep it going that long?
Mystikal - Just cause he's the only guy that can keep up to speed with Busta.
And BDS I agree, I've never heard anyone out-rap Krayzie. Although as mentioned before I like Wish's slower off-kilter rhythms a lot.

Nas hands down especially Illmatic and Stillmatic. Not only does he touch on several more issues then the regular rap stuff he does it in a much more poetic way. He also does cool things like taking on the roles of inanimate objects such as a prison cell in I gave you power. Eminem just seems immature in his prose when compared to Nas, he can have some deep songs but you have to dig through half an album of crap to get at them. I'm sorry but rapping about immature bull**** to "push my buttons" is not what I consider good listening.

yeah, canibus' new **** is wack. his best album was his first one for sure. virtuoso is an underground white boy (but he sounds black) and he has some sick lyrics.

yeah man, if canibus would have had some sick beats or a popular producer, he would have had a platnum album for sure. his lyrics from his 1st album were too ill. and i think his LL diss was sick and he won the battle (i just dont like LL if you know what i mean). and i do agree that eminem and canibus would have been the best battle in history.

Yes, his raps are about his death, his fears, his feelings, his life.
Eminem raps about hating gays and killing his wife. Over and over and over and over again. Slim Shady LP was a deep CD to some extent, but that's it.
Tupac managed to keep his thug roots up to his death. Eminem lost that right after Slim Shady went platinum.

I found this interview with 2Pac and they asked him the question about how the media misrepresents him. I just wanted to post this to all the people who believe the media and judge a person on what they say. I totally agree with Pac and his answer.
Tupac has often said that the media have misrepresented him. What is the real Tupac Shakur like?
"He's a human being with all sides," replied Pac. "Multi-faceted, ups and downs. Goods and bads. Mistakes. Everything, you know. All they want to show is one side, which is distorted. That's a distorted view. So what I said was true. If they would show the good things and the bad things, I would have no complaints, and it would even make them look better. When you just show me doing all this bad stuff, then people gonna just start thinking like 'wait a minute, this dude can't be doing all this bad stuff.' I mean, come on. They don't show nothing else. So it's really helpin' me, cause it's making it look one-sided and untrue. But the thing that bothers me is that it's just not across the board. They do this to rappers or young black males -- inner city people. You know, they do that to us but they don't do that for everybody else. But that bothers me, but I'm not gonna harp on everything that's unfair, 'cause life is unfair. Nobody said it's gonna be easy or fair. I'm not even gonna trip off it. I'm just gonna push forward. When I stop, I stop. When the wheels fall off, the wheels fall off. But until then I'm gonna put the foot to the metal."
Oh yea, and if you want 2Pac's best deep song in my opinions, listen to " Shed So Many Tears." Ill song.

Most people would think that reasonable doubt is his best album becuase he was still raw and hungry, but i think on Vol. II he showed he can flip his flow flawlessly from a storytelling flow on "Hard Knock Life" to the tongue twister "***** wha, ***** who." And let's not forget to mention the countless cameos of today's established rappers like DMX LOX, FOXY, etc.
But like what you say Rude... He lost his flow, especially on the Blueprint. Don't know how The Source gave that 5 mics. The last time I heard him flow tight, was probably Big Pimpin' or "Is that yo' chick". I'm trying to get Blueprint II tomorrow, songs I heard so far sounds aiight.

i guess we just have different musical tastes, cause i think that "***** wha, ***** who" might be one of the worst songs ever written. i mean, just look at the title of the song and its easy to see that its similar to most other rap songs these days. jsut a bunch of mindless garbage. thats just my opinion though. i havent heard a single jay z song that i liked off of any of the recent albums, he doesnt rap now, he talks.

I wasn't saying that ***** wha, ***** who is a good song, I was just trying to compare the different rap flows in the album which he's has abandant nowadays. Also, I'm definitely not trying to saying he's one of the best, just look at my top 10 earlier in the thread.
Recently, the last two good songs worth listening are "Renegade" mainly because of Eminem, of course, and the bonus track on The Blueprint "Brreathe easy", I think all you bb'ers would love this song, even if you're not into rap.

No, the rest of the world hates us because we're arrogant and constantly pop into other countries unwanted.
As for Tupac, would you expect him to rap about sunshine and flowers, or money and bitches? That's not what he lived through, and how can you judge the guy for his artistic expression? I respect that more than the Jay-Z "Big Pimpin" bull**** that goes around now.

Hands down, Eminem is the smartest and his **** is the rawest. Bone and Twista are fast as ****, but their **** is same old bud smoking stuff. Big Pun is good, but his beats are kinda trite. If anybody wants some raw Eminem lyrics then I can post some off the top of my head:
"Got your girl on my arm and I'm armed w/a firebomb so big that my entire arm is a giant firebomb. Buy a shirt w/a slim shady iron on, and the pants to match (here mama, try em on)" - Still Don't Give A ****
"*** or lez, trans or ves, pants or dress, hate ***s, the answer's yes" - Criminal
"A maniac in fact son, you lookin zany whack w/just a fraction of my tracks run" - Infinite
Other lyrically sick songs:
Run Rabbit Run

Renegades ft. Royce da 5'9

Yeah, I love how Eminem has a song called "words are weapons" on the D12 soundtrack, then talks about how half of his hate-filled crap is "just joking"
D12 has some good stuff, I'll admit.
He's a little punk-ass kid, period. And after seeing him in numerous interviews and listening to all of his stuff, he's lost my respect big time.
And come on, Bone raps about weed, and killing people. Two things. Eminem raps about hating his mom, and (now) how terrible it is being him. Also two things.
Few rappers have more than one or two things to rap about, it's all in how it's done and whether or not it's worth listening to.

Ever seen any interview where someone pulls him apart for his lyrics? Says it every time. Quote from a VH1 interview:
"If I say six lines about raping and killing and doing drugs, but at the end I say I'm just joking, don't do that stuff, it's like I never even said that, all they hear is the raping and killing."
He should realize that even in jest, horrible things are still horrible things. Racist jokes still are offensive, even if said in jest.

It is funny that everyone is all on 2PAC cuz he took like 20-30 different lines of dialogue and turned it into 200 songs!
And, from a strictly entertainment point of view...at the TOP of my list...the ICP!!!!!!!! The Insane Clown Posse are Friggin Hilarious and have the BEST....BEST Concert you will ever see... just be sure to bring a change of cloths~!

Can't believe I forgot Outkast. Maybe not the best lyrically, but in terms of musicianship they're among the best.
And seriously, if you take your average gangsta rap song and replace '*****' with '***got' then you've got your average eminem song.

You can't be referring to T-Bone from Da Lench Mob, can you? I doubt he would do something so corny. Da Lench Mob are amongst the most hardcore rappers I've ever heard.
2Rude, I've not heard anything from Nine in years. Nine Livez was one of the best albums of 1995, along with E.1999 Eternal by BTnH, and Me Against the World by Tupac.

Just because no one mentioned them - jeru the damaja and spice 1. a friend of mine who's has a radio show at school put me on jeru, and spice 1 i just know from seeing tales from the hood. he's got a song in there. one of the hardest one's i've ever heard, born to die. i think he's scarface's cousing too.
as for eminem, he's definitely talented, but he gets the best beats too.i could jsut listen to all his albums without the lyrics. if someone like xzibit, who's also great, got those beats instead of dre's left overs, they'd be selling 10 million too.
canibus too is one of the best, especially on beasts from the east with the lox.
dmx could have been great, but he's terrible now, still not as bad as ja rule though.
everything wu-tang has ever done is great, totally original, raw, great lyrics, gza, ghostface, inspectah deck are all among the best lyricists.
nas is another one like dmx, only he started out better, but has probably fallen just as far. illmatic was probably top 5 rap cds ever. just brilliant lyrics, brilliant beats, and even good saxophone, which was his dad playing. and for the person who was asking why he chose to rap under nas, it's cuz his real name is nasir.
outkast doesn't have great lyrics, but as pure musicians they're up there. loved their first album.
and of course slick rick, great voice, great songs - treat her like a prostiture, lick the balls, childrens story.

i think that was with 'lost boyz'. but yeah that is my favorite canibus track ever (he flows for like 3 minutes strait) and if im not mistaken that was his first or second track he ever appeared on (either that one or Uni4rm w/ ras kass and heltah skeltah.).
Wu Tang is great. I can't stop listening to that song "Impossible". ODB cracks me up in "Dog****".
hell yeah, i love wu. i have every one of thier cds and a lot of each individual artists' cds too. 36 chambrs is still my fav. wu cd and wu forever is up their too. imo inspectah deck and reakwon are the best lyricists in wu.
and to all the eminem haters, you guys are ignorant because if you herd some of his underground **** or evern his 1st album you would have a dif. opinion. hes only been rappin about his life so much since his last 2 cds and I still feel that it is sick. the way he puts his verses together and the metephors and smilies he uses are genius.

No, there's a difference between a mean joke and Em's lyrics. "Hey, there should be a Mohammad Ali bobblehead doll" is mean but funny, while "I hate ***s and want to kill them" is just mean and inspires violence.
And as for lyrical skills he's not nearly as good as most underground rap.

you're right about that canibus track, it is with the lost boys and a+, i was thinking of dmx's first track, with the lox and lil kim, - money power respect, when dmx was still good, but the best line on that one was "6'2 230, you vs. me is like a poodle vs a pit bull."

He also followed that line with,
"homophobic? Nah you just heterophobic..."-Eminem
And as for Kim, I thought that song was hillarius, and I can't see how you refuse to see the humor in this and take it so seriously. He said he was going to drive honking the hork and grab her hand and wave at people with it, how truthful can that be? LOL
It is ok for you to have your opinion, realize that kind of music is not for you and move on, no reason to bash the guy. I hate Celine Dion, her damn music makes me angry, talk about producing violence.. Play the **** in my house for 1 hour I may go Postal!

the "homophic, nah you're just heterophobic" is a classic line used by people who hate gays to come back at those who label them homophobes. They use it like "No, YOU'RE the one with the problem ya damn ***"

So now is a racial issue? I am Hispanic, you don't see me screaming out Pun just because hes of my race, Eminem is very talented white or black.
If you want to make it racial, for eminem to be taken seriously in an industry who is mainly ran and supported by black people how much better did he have to be? Much better than everyone else to start. Other white rappers have tried to do the same, they fail miserably.
IF there are many better that are underground, why are they not signed?

DITC are one of the all time greatest groups.
Lord Finesse was badass too but i didnt really think that his solo stuff was anything special, the beats were definately lacking. but who can forget "i get the most of Hos, im so cool i got pussy on remote control"
as for Big L, what can i say, anyone who has been into hip hop for a long time understands that hes one of the greats. they just released some new Big L stuff on vinyl if you are interested. its called Harlems Finest: a Freestyle History Vol. 2 and its got some new tracks on it. i think you can get it at sandboxautomatic.com

Well, I don't know if he has some wicked lines just because like Bone Thugs, I DON"T FLUCKING UNDERSTAND THEM, except for a few songs. But one thing Outkast does best is being original, and I think that's what Eminem respects. I love Rosa Parks, so southernplaylistic, even negroids like me from NYC could clap their hands to that lil' break with that dude going off with the harmonica.
One thing that producers can't do nowdays is do those breaks in the songs. I used to love listening to Eric B. rip it up between rakim verses, etc...

People often forget there are two important elements to being a great rapper: coming up with clever ways of saying things, and making sure the words flow together well. Eminem is decent at both, but not great, there sure as hell are better.
Someone said it's hard to understand Bone Thugs. Pop onto ohhla.com and read along with their songs some time. "Crept and We Came" is just incredible, so is "Down 71" both off of E1999 Eternal.

CHINO XL is clearly has some of the heaviest lyrics and metaphores. Peep this:-
On everything that I love, I attack rap genres..
Fatter than Chaka Khan was
XL excederin verbal medicine sealed for tamperin
Consider me the Master P of God like Kirk Frank-lin
Shoot 'em shank 'em and burn they skin
Blast for laughs at Chino actions
Skill is a blessin you cowards could only imagine
You ain't an X-Man like comic books, you an ex-man like RuPaul
Run through y'all leave y'all stiffer than Ken dolls
You wanna start friction? Play Don and King and..
.. end up gettin ****ed like Ving Rhames in "Pulp Fiction"
My rhymes so hot they just might trigger the sprinkler system
Like freaks that Eddie Murphy call witch you comin up missin
Now you gonna listen?! Or do I have to remind you?
I'll punch a hole through your chest
and give a pound to the man behind you
Killin you and the ***** that signed you like my Dad invented murder, I rhyme til it's a torture to me, exhaust like a catalytic converter
It's sad for me to admit I heard of, you, such a fake one
There's so many gay rappers
they probably diss me cause I'm the straight one
Plus chicks can't trick the light-skinned ***** with the long hair
With Nick Cage in an airplane these hoes couldn't +Con Air+
From the Track "I Told You So"
ALSO

I'm the law around these parts, respect it dog
Or you might spend a weekend in the county morgue
With an unsuitable coffin that's way too small
And a deacon blessing your body at a funeral
You get a 21 blunt salute, and life goes on
Gotta stay *positive*, focus on the *protons*

Do you know of any of his old songs from back in the day. I heard he sounded very different to what he sounds like now.
Same thing with DMX...have you ever heard born loser (93') he sounds nothing like the DMX of today. You wouldn't believe it at all.

yeah its true, ja rules voice is nothing more than a good marketing move. if you listen to his older stuff when he was with a group called Cash Money Click, he doesnt have that raspy voice that he has now.
DMX is pretty much the same story. he started barking like a moron and the kiddies started eatin it up

You know what's another thing that changes their voices... All the weed smoking, I'm sure they've smoked alot more after they got paid. And DMX was a well known crackhead from back in the days. My boy even said that's why he came out with two albums (his first two) almost back to back 'cause he kicked up the habit. IMO, I'm still half and half if this is true or not.... Even listen to Biggie, he sounds totally different from his first album, than he does on Life After Death, and on Born Again, I could tell what were his earlier rhymes compared to later ones.

i dont think that smoking herb is gonna change someones voice THAT much. if that were true, there would be a lot of people with a voice like ja rule. in my eyes its nothing more than clever marketing. the sissy boy voice wasnt selling records so they slapped a little grimey voice on him and presented him to the public.

I think this has so much with pac's passing. With no Pac around you can get away with that ****. I don't if you noticed this, but rappers are trying to show more and more charisma when on the mic. Same with the voice thing, and since most of the public is stupid, they eat it up. Kind of like all those Beatle wanna bitters.

I didn't want to comment on this until I heard this song. I just have to say that it's not fair to compare Kraysie and Pun on that song because Pun only spits like 10 bars, while Kraysie spits about 100. Listen to one of Pun's longer verses like Leatherface or Dreamshatterer, both of which got " Best Verse of the Month" from The Sourse.
And think about it, if you battling someone, would you rather sound like Pun or Kraysie??

If you want to know what he was talking about...it was his gun...listen to the song and think of a gun every time he describes her and her actions..talking about leaving "her" loaded...and finishing with "I love you black or chrome"....Its amazing when you listen and think about it how what sounds like things that happen with girlfriends can be understood with his gun..
More lyrics...
"Maybe .45 but she still live.....Picked you up when you were .9, bought you some shells when you turned .22"
"Sleep with you loaded by my bed side"
"I love finger f***** you, all of a sudden I'm hearing thunder when you bust a nut, n***** be ducken"
"Never leave a n**** alone, I love you black or chrome"
The whole song is full of these connections..Just listen to it and you'll understand. And you should lose all respect for what JayZ did to the song. I would post my thoughts but I don't feel like typing all stars....

First off, there are some many lyrical greats out there these days. You really got to start off with wu (mainly RZA and GZA) these mother****ers along with meth inspectah and the other million mother****ers from wu-tang displayed some of the most complex intricately designed rhyme schemes and patterns displayed too this day.
But when you really think about it, a lot of the rapper who started using simile's and metaphors were really feeding off big daddy kane (RAW was the ****.) Then as the 90's progressed you had the east coast and west coast rivalry. Although the west was on top, the east still had it locked down lyrically. Although i Love 2pac and the death row era, 2pac cannot touch biggie lyrically, but flow wise and emotion wise WHICH IS WHAT RAP IS ALL ABOUT 2pac wins hands down. Kurupt along with ras kass was 2 of the few west coast MC's that had the game locked down lyrically. The west was mainly brought into the game cuz of the g-funk era and that "i dont give a **** style" (compliments of NWA and reinforced by 2pac). Right now, a long of people have fallen off. Eminem is still tight as ****, but you can't say he is as good as he was 2 or 3 years ago (50 has him thinkin he a tuff guy). Lloyd bankz and jae millz are KILLING the mixtapes right now with punchline after punchline. But, as much as he was black balled and hated on, the homie canibus only got better and better... rip the jacker was by far one of the best albums this year. Jay-z and Nas are both up there for there story telling abilities but they lack the hard hitting MC punchlines and metaphors that canibus and that breed of MCs carry. Big L would have been the best to ever do it if the kid stayed around long enough, and big pun was headed up there 2 (RIP 2 both of them) all and all, there are a lot of talent out there right now and a lot of talent that was untouchable but fell off over years. Rakim ... speaks for itself.. u can call him God.
1. Wu Tang (RZA GZA mainly) tied with rakim
2. Canibus
3. Eminem
4. Jay-Z
5. Nas
6. Kurupt
7. Big L
8. Big Pun
9 Ras Kass
10 Biggie
^strictly based on lyrical substance. if you asked me about the greatest rappers of all time... hands down ur top 4 have to contain nas jay-z biggie and 2pac, and if it doesn't, ur not a hip hop fan. period
PaperChaser
01-03-2004, 10:26 PM
To the poster above, Jay-Z lacks punchlines. Dude practically mastered it. Heres a few from Young Hova.
"*****s don't get the PICTURE until the guns is DRAWN"
"Cats get envious/ its ted-i-ous/so I keep one eye open like CBS"
Download the song 22 Two's by Jay-Z. Tell me dude don't have punchlines.
Thats his wack ****. Check out Reasonable Doubt, Vol 3, Blueprint, and The Black Album all certified classics for more Jay.

Sorry for singling you out but your post was the last of the many stupid ones I read. The only west coast artist that should be mentioned in a top ten of anything lyrically rap related are Pac, Cube and Ras Kass. Biggie is top 5 dead or alive. This is fact. Show me a Kurupt line that outdoes
"Biggie Smalls, the rap hippopatamus/u being better than me thats proposterous/"

in no particular order but eminem and LL cool J are the top 2 mcs all time in my book
eminem -Every1 knows this mans talent, eminem and d12 have to be among the sickest rap games alltime, i recommend hearing stir crazy,
llcoolj-seriously underated, i mean aside from his ladies man side, this guy is tough, DEEP BLUE SEA IS GANGSTA, I mean he beat a couple of the games top cats at the time, CANNIBUS was
underground at the time but we knew the deal, and KOOL MOE DEE was a top cat at the time.
the rest no particulaar order
2pac-was a legend, not the greatest rhymes but he was a real cat.
jaz -as so much talent but he doesnt know how to use it and his new joints is corny, hes very versatile and nice own style
militant " YES SIR" i love his style, his lyrics are corny at times. but sometimes he can be quite fake, i saw him in rap city he had to kick a free, and this dude was rapping skits off the black album which proved as a freestyler hes fake he didnt have shyt, and when he got embbarrased he kicked some lame corny ish.
my teeniebopper cuzins, say he is promoting his albums, I was like goddamn what a teenie bopper, its obviously hes not a real cat, but his rhymes regardless of who wrote it can be impressive at times. "
BIG PUN -ad crazy flow, but his lyrics are a little all talk no walk.
JADAKISS-PROBABLY THE BEST BEHIND EMINEM AND CASSIDY CURRENTLY IN THE GAME WITH CRAZY PUNCHLINES
mase-what can i say this guy was as talented as anyone and had nice lines and flow. mase "the pastor" what a mistake he dissapointed me.
SHYNE-what can i say this guys voice was unique he was talented he deserved better than puff did him, nice lines.
biggie was ahead of his time too but im not a big fan of his, unless at parties, i dont reallly bump his stuff.
gunit and that pop crze its ridiculous, there ok to bump at a party, but among taking them seriously there a joke, everytime i hear there freestyles i hear them freeing skits off there albums its rediculous.
nas first album was hot ahead of its time, but later on his albums got repitive he never advanced he got boring, no more life story he got pop and stil lwas whack, and one of his main singles were sampled from pacs.
method man and red man were ahead of there time, at there prime but only redman has progressed lyrically throughout there respective careers.
now my queen cats all had talent, az mobb deep cannibus dmc nature and treech these cats were all aight at one time, not the best all time but at some point they looked like they would merge as the best , but were 2ghetto too emerge nationwide.
im a lil wasted right now, with my list, ill edit and post more as i remember.

Creep with me, as I cruise in my Beemer
All the kids in the ghetto call me Don Cartagena
Kickin ass as I blast off heat, and
you never see me talk to police, so
you should know that I really don't care
Pull you by the hair, slit your throat, and I'll leave you right there
So beware it's rare that *****z want beef, Big Pun speak
and let these mother****ers know how we run the streets
[Big Punisher]
**** peace, I run the streets deep with no compassion, Puerto Ricans
known for slashin catchin *****z while they sleepin, no relaxin
Keep your eyes open, sharp reflexes
Three techses in the Jeep Lexus just in case police ask us
Street professors, Terror Squad, ghetto scholars
Fill the clips off, inflicts the fear of God when the metal hollers
Better acknowledge or get knocked down until I'm locked and shot down
Heather B couldn't make me put my Glock Down
[Fat Joe]
We lock towns like rounds in the chamber
Boogie Down major like Nine, I bust mine
everytime plus I'm the crime boss of New York
When we talk to walk the walk all my *****z carry chalk
and stalk, I prey like The Predator, whoever want it
go and get it set it baby and I'ma bury ya
So remember the Squad that I'm reppin
I pull a clip for my weapon and Punish *****z till it's armaggedeon

*IMMORTAL TECHNIQUE FREESTYLE *
[Diabolic]
Go ahead and grip glocks
I'll snap your trigger finger in six spots
You'll have to lip lock with hypodermic needles to lick shots
I'll watch you topple flat
Put away your rings and holla back
Can't freestyle, you're screwed off the top like bottle caps
Beneath the surface, I'm over heating your receiving circuits
By unleashing deeper verses than priests speak in churches
What you preach is worthless
Your worship defeat the purpose
Like President Bush taking bullets for the Secret Service
Beyond what ya'll fathom
I **** on cats and jaw tap ‘em
Show no compassion like having a straight faced orgasm
Tour jack ‘em, have his half a ten bitch suck my friend's dick
In the mean time, you can French kiss this clenched fist
Diabolic, a one man brigade spreading cancer plague
This ****ing a pussy's face, holding a hand grenade
So if I catch you bluffin'
***got, you're less than nothing
I just had to get that stress off my chest like breast reduction
[Technique]
You mother ****ers are nothing
You cannot harm me
I'll resurrect every aborted baby and start an army
Storm the planet hunting you down cuz I'm on a mission
To split your body into a billion one-celled organisms
Immortal Technique will destroy your religion you stupid bitch
You're faker than blue-eyed crackers nailed to a crucifix
I'm bout to blow up like Nasa Challenger computer chips
Arsenic language transmitted revolutionarily
I'm like time itself, I'm gunna kill you inevitably
Chemically bomb you, **** using a chrome piece
I'm Illmatic, you won't make it home like Jerome's niece
I'll sever your head diagonally for thinking of dissin' me
And then ill use your dead body to write my name in calligraphy
This public democracy, brain washed your psychology
So you're nothing like diversity without equality
And your crew is full of more ***gots than Greek mythology
Using numerology, to count the people I sent to Heaven
Produces more digits than 22 divided by 7
You're like Kevin Spacey, your style is usually suspect
You never killed a cop, you not a mother ****ing thug yet
Your mind is empty and spacious
Like the part of the brain the appreciated culture in a racist
Face it, you too basic, you're never gunna make it
Like children walking through Antarctica, butt naked

i wanted to post this one verse from immortal technique because its a real good one
Yo, yo, lyrically I'm infinite like possibilities
But you don't have the capability like infertility
Cuz opening your mouth to question my validity
Is like trying to contradict the theory of relativity
When I spit is the epitome of heavy artillery
My enemies are obsessed with me like the bitch in Misery
But break out like father running form responsibility
Every time I step and abuse the mic with versatility
I balance humility, with brutal instinct
I'll make your whole cypher look like those crackers from N'Sync
And I don't care about your link, or your luxury car
I shed light with more magnitude than all of the stars
My breyon talk pick thick
So don't ever talk ****
And remember something *****, while you rave and rant
A roach can live for nine days without its head but you can't

You guys are killing me with this enitre Eminem ann Immortal Technique ****. Nobody outside of the suburbs and Canada listen to that ****. Real Rap heads know that the likes of Canibus, Pun, Jigga, Pac and other countelss greats should not be mentioned with mere mortals such as Eminem and Tech. Please, save yourself some dignity and stop mentioning artist who have no relevancy to hip hop. Bet half you guys started listening to rap around 93'! What a fukkin joke.

PaperChaser, you got a problem with white people you pussy ?
**** you.
Christopher Wallace no doubt had the sickest flow and rhyming ever. Dead Wrong was such a disgusting powerful rap tune, he trounced 2pac. But then 2pac had the mellow and in touch with his feelings side that biggie didn't possess.
Dear Mama, Me Against the World, Changes for example.
2pac was great in his own way.
Biggie was great in his own way.
I think todays rappers are all rapped out, can only rap out money, cars, hoes, sneakers(lol) ... yeah thats it. Oh yeah or killing some fool. Rap back in the day was the shiznit, bone thugz etc. Now it's just over comercialised bull****. Eminem is great, Dame Dash is a ****ing idjat. Grr.
