Yes I know that alot of people here can golf year round, I live in MN and can pretty much only golf from April to October. But in another month I'll be swinging the clubs and getting ready to hit the greens with a case of beer and my clubs.

Ahh can't wait.

...

Ahh can't wait.

I'm with you. I'm not too great, but it's so enjoyable. I don't get to go too often because of the cost, but in the summer I'll go with my dad quite often.

So many people complain that it's so frustrating, but I always felt it was the opposite. What's better than walking (or riding) though perfectly manicured bright green grass. And the fresh smells of nature.

I actually spent last years spring break on a trip to Florida with my dad to golf. The best memory for me was at a course called Pelican Bay. I was pretty much hooking everything and generally not playing well at all the first 9 holes but was still enjoying myself. The 10th hole was a medium-long dogleg right par 5. I hit my drive just past the dogleg and was about 220ish away and actually in the fairway (doesn't happen often ;) ). So I hit my 4 iron and it was right at it and rolled about four feet short. So I had a short little 4 feet putt for eagle. And my putt traveled about 2 feet LOL. I made the birdie putt though.

That's one thing I like about golf, no matter how many bad shots you hit, you always remember the one good one.

It is a great sport. I actually just started playing last year. For 9 holes I started out shooting a 65 or so, but by middle of the summer I was in the low 40's, best round was a 43. I lived right across from the course so it was pretty easy to go out everyday after work and rip out 9 holes quick.

I can't wait to play golf. It's warm enough here, but it's always wet in the winter. I shoot in the mid 80's now. I was down to the mid 70's a few years ago when I had time to practice.

I figured Russia would be covered with snow right now ;). But seriously, those are good scores. I've been playing for a few years, not much but still, and I still only shoot mid 90's on a good day.

You know I actually thought that way until a buddy of mine took me out and we got drunk (off of budweiser) and played golf ****ty. It was so fun to get on the cart, get drunk and hit a ball.

I have whipped around in the golfcart--that was fun--especially on the hilly paths--but the serious golfers don't like it.....some don't care....but then some want extreme silence so their concentration isn't broken:rolleyes:..:D..I guess its not my cup of tea. Sooooo many people love it though!I watch outta my backyard! One thing thats funny is all the golfers in my backyard looking for their balls.....hehe
Yeah I don't take it to seriously maybe play 4-5 tourneys a year and they are all best shot type with alot of alcohol.

mistermuscles
03-02-2006, 01:12 PM
Yeah. I hear you. I can't stand those golfers who take it so seriously.

At my course that I go to, there is this group of three guys that go every Saturday, and they are horrible, but they are so serious about it. Like, they will take 5-6 minutes to "read the greens" before they actually put, only to miss the hole by like 10 feet.

I took a few kids out there to teach them how to golf, and they were all pissed about it, because we were too slow for them.

I just want to punch those kinds of people out. AND the people that freak if you don't take the game 100% serious and are very quiet and everything. I mean, It's not the ****ing PGA Championship, I'm just going out there to hit a few balls and have a good time....

Well, the driving range's booths were arranged in a very small curved line, like this "(". Anyways, when I swung, the ball went perfectly horizontal and smoked a chick right in the leg in another booth. :D

It was close to 70 here in Pa today. I got in 18 holes. Shot a 90 which is pretty good for me. I was killing the drives though. It just took me like 3 wedge shots to make it to the green from 100 yards out :). Still a good time.

played HS golf..junior club champuion...etc

when I got to college and 20 yrs old, my colleg didnt have a golf team, and i was too old for teen torunaments, so switched to money events, aka: scrambles and outings :)

last few years besides that done long drive

the last contest I did I had a bad day with a new club, longest was ~325 that day

as far as longest on the course, not counting odd cart-path bounces, cutting doglegs, etc etc...was about 360/365ish

I played in my HS state tourney last fall and shot an 81 with 4 three putts on a pretty tough track. So far this year i have been hitting massive hooks and my ballstriking suck so bad, although my putting and short game have been on. Lifting messes up my swing, but i dont really care im gonna lift anyways because im graduating and not planning on playing in any tournaments this summer so F it. I dont plan on playing ALOT in college bcz ill be busy with school and lifting and having fun, so hopefully in like 5 years ill be hella strong and hit the ball like 300 plus, compared to my 240-260 average now. This summer ill be working at the course and playing and practicing alot im sure, but mostly ill go out to have fun ,not be super competitive like i was my past 4 years of golf

BeASimpleMan

I played in HS too. I wasnt as good as you guys though haha. I think I averaged 87 at the end of the year. Thing is, I averaged like 25-30 putts. My putting sucks. I can get on the green in 2-3, but I cant putt for ****. I need to work on that this year.

I used to sneak alcohol in to matches, I would take vodka and mix it with sprite. one day it got like 98 degrees out, and I drank the alcohol. I got real screwed up, but ironically, I shot the best round of my life that day haha. I love goin golfing with my dad and brother in law and gettin **** faced and just messing around.

Yeah, I don't think so. That's just 31 regular non-putting shots. He whould have to take at least 18 shots from the tee. So that just leaves 13 more shots to spread a round. If there was 4 par 3's that he hit the green each time, he'd have 14 more holes with 13 shots, so unless he reached a par 4 in 1, it's pretty difficult to do.

Unless he was talking about 9 holes. :)

those werent the exact numbers but it was something close like that. I had really good shots onto the green and I had an ungodly amount of putts. I hit every par 3 in 1 and every par 4 in 2. I hit a couple of par 5's in 2 also.

Lol, I kind of figured. I've had rounds like that before. I'm usually a crappy putter, but I don't practice and only play for fun with my dad usually because he loves golf.

The days I putt well, everything else is terrible haha. I've only put it all together one round of 9 holes and shot a 36 on a par 34 course. I don't think I'll ever come close to that again haha.

Another Golf Story of mine:

Back when I was working construction in Des Moines, we were putting a pond in at the Des Moines Golf and Country Club (Uber Expensive place, like 30 grand per year membership) and we had a bunch of earth-moving equipment on site. So one evening, me and another guy raced bulldozers down a fareway, and I later did donuts on one of the greens with the company truck. (both fareway and green were going to be dug up to make room for the pond the next day.)

But no-one else can say that they did what we did without getting arrested.

dunno..only one ive done was a qualifier for nationals, and as far as I know, didn't offer prizes other than your qualification

as far as golf outings go, they usually have 2 holes for longest drive...most average outings pay out between 50-100 in cash, or sometimes in gift certificates or prizes

as far as longest on the course, not counting odd cart-path bounces, cutting doglegs, etc etc...was about 360/365ish
I'm the standard mid-90's hacker who has no high irons. I'll take a soft 5-wood instead of hitting my 3-4 iron.

That not withstanding, I had a drive you could appreciate. Medium/short par 4 - probably 385, pin was deep, so it was close to 400. I had been getting my driver up that day, so I hit my 3 wood. Drove the piss out of it, a little fade to play the slope. We head off to find it and can't see it anywhere. I knew I crushed it, so I was looking in sprinkler heads, fringe, etc. Nothing. Finally one of my boys spots it. 10 feet away from the pin. The cart path encroaches a little on the right of the fairway, and I figure I got a solid two bounces on it. :) Best (and only) eagle of my life.

That said, I'm a Florida cracker and have been on the links for a solid month and a half now. :p

So the Masters are coming up. Who is your pic? I gotta go with the favorite and I am sure that is Tiger, he effing owns there.

I also heard that the course is about 200 yards longer this year! I guess that right after the Masters they rip up the course from April-Sept and 'tigerproof' it some more every year.

It's clear blue skies with a light breeze today. High is suppossed to be 60. Perfect weather for golf, or whatever else you might want to do outside.

I have a question for you guys about drivers:

Does anyone make a driver with a ceramic face? Ceramics can be lighter, and harder than steel, aluminum, or titanium, so it would make that ball go alot farther than a metal faced driver.

"In other offerings, Jazz also makes a beta-ti driver with variable wall thickness in its P2W -- as in Play to Win -- series; a driver with a hard, ceramic face insert in its Fat Cat 2 series; and a game-enhancing steelhead driver targeting intermediate players in its Oxygen series. All come with a selection of facelofts and shafts."

played pretty good today

greens got airated(sp?) tuesday, so not recovered yet..hence the bad putting

started slow...4 pars, 4 bogeys, and a dobule thanks to an OB on the front...still pulled a 42, with 3 fairways, 2 greens in reg, and 16 putts

back 9 is my strong 9 at my course, and tore it up today..1 bird, 6 pars and 2 bogeys to close :( for a 37 and a 79 for the day....3 fairways and 7 greens in regulation on the back...sucked to finish bogey-bogey tho...the worst was #17...its a huge, sloping green....par 3...put it on the left end..had an uphill/sidehill 50 footer...ran it 5 feet by...and then lipped out the come-back par putt...only 3 putt of the day...ack

but you figure missed 3 putts under 7 feet...missed 6 birdie putts total....chunked two approach chips... this could've easily been a career back 9(best ive shot on our back 9 is a 34). my iron play was as good as ive ever been

birdies hole 12, which is the #4 handicap hole on the course...2 out of my 3 rounds this year ive birdied it lol

driver finally got working a bit...drive on #15 was next to the green(from our tees is listed at 330), and on 18 put it ~305...not bad considering its wet and early, and all my balls were either next to or behind their ball mark bc i hit the damn thing so high lol

ah well...if the greens were healthy, im very sure id have been about 33 on the back 9...had prolly 3 birdie putts under 12 feet i missed, including a 5 footer...hit an airation hole and just hopped off-line :(

home course is 6400 yards, par 72, 70.0 rating and a 118 slope rating

Got to love the carts, I play better without them but they are always fun. I went out with a friend one time with some beers and cigars. The fairways were somewhat wet and my friend was holding a beer in one hand and the cigar in the other. Full speed down the fairway slamed the break while cranking the wheel left to spin out and this kid flew out of the cart rollin down the fairway his beer and cigar flyin in the air. It was too funny nearly pissin my pants other people on the course saw it and were crackin up!!!
