Post your Great Lake and what you target.
I am an avid Lake Erie guy. Walleye, Smallmouth, Perch, Steelhead are my main four species.

I fished Erie for over 25 years now, but on shore. I have always been an avid Bass fisher. I love the fight...
Here is a little story I will share about a fish trip to erie many years back.
I and My wife decided to go to Erie to visit her parents for a weekend.
We brought along our little 10' row boat with a electric motor on the rear.
I stopped at the local bait store at Presque isle and there was an old man selling tackel in fron tof the store. I figured heck he seemed like he needed some cash , so the nice guy I am bought a few things from him. I asked him what lure worked for what fish. I think I bought like 3 lures from this guy.
Anyways we motored to the Perry monumen t section and launched in the rear section where all the weeds are. I figured I would try the lures and put on the first one, Cast over a log at the shore line and.. BAM! large mouth hit. He was huge as hell. a good 18" I beleive.
So as we motored through the back side of the place I went into a section full of weeds, I figured I would try it out for the hell of it. I cast my lure 5 times and then suddenly i was reeling in what felt like dead weight. I had no clue waht it was other than alot of grass.
I got it close to the boat and looked down to see a huge muskie staring at my face. He was smiling away with those enormous teeth of his. My wife was screaming her ass of. I said get the net for me. Of course she said what net? I said I thought you go the net out of the van. No I thought you did... I was like damn woman what the heck?
Of course she wanted me to reach right on down and grab this thing out of the water by my bare hands. Well I was in roughly 4 feet of water and could see its tail hitting the bottom as he was slightly out of the water. I figured I may be able to at least grab him by the gills and hope I keep my fingers intact. I reach down to grab him and he flaps his tail. Suddenly the hook shoots out and slams me in the head attaching itself to my hair. ( luckily I had long hair at the time). He sat at the bottom as if looking up at me and smiled, ( I swear he had it in to tease and taunt me). Then as soon as he appeared he was gone, Needless to say I was never the same when it came to fishing again. I hope someday to meet this guy again and the next time I will be ready.

My family owns a cottage in Rondeau Provincial Park on the Canadian side of Erie. I have done some fishing in Rondeau Bay mainly off docks and the shores, catching a few small large mouths, but mostly sunfish and perch.
I remember back when I was 12 or so, I was out at about 6 in the morning at the end of the dock, out there the water is still pretty shallow, maybe 5 feet so you could see all the fish you were trying to catch. And then what I guess to be about a 18-20 inch lake trout swims by, we were all so confused, the water in that part of the bay had to be super warm, and I thought the whole bay was too warm for lake trout, but it was awesome!
At some point I want to do some trolling out on the main lake, maybe go for some walleye or lake trout! If anyone has any experience in that area of Erie I'd love to hear it.

The new forum is great...
I grew up fishing lake Eires, and used to go to 4H camp on Kelly's Island.
I go Walleye and perch fishing every once in a while (not nearly often enough) when I am home with my old man.
I used to do a lot of fishing on lake Chataquea in New York, but my family member who had a house up there has since sold it. I miss the ice fishing we used to do.
Any ice fisherman out there?
