On Sunday I cut my hand at work between my thumb and index finger down to the bone and had to get stiches. I'm 4 weeks out from the Fresno NPC and have been on my contest diet and training to get leaned out. I can still do cardio, abs, back extensions, and legs, but cant really do any upperbody stuff. I don't want to do too much cardio and loose mass, but don't want to not train and lose a tight look. Any suggestions?

how bout cocaine...get lean with no cardio...joking of course...thats terrible news...a senario like this is what i fear most as a competitor. There's absolutely no way you can lift? Not with gloves or anything? I really don't know what to say as far as that goes. Good luck

Thanx for the encouragement. The thing that sux is I have to wear a partial cast to keep the pressure off and the skin from stretching & popping stiches. lifting straps lay right where the wound is so I'm screwed w/ that. I think the hardest part is typing one handed!! Who knows, maybe some smack would help :)

so you can't use one of your hands? how about pec deck with your elbow, bicep curl machine w/ your wrist, lat raise machine... i'm sure there are a variety of machines you could use that don't require you to use your hands.

I think it would heal enough for you to be able to lift again in about two weeks. I once got a big hole on my cheek because i fell, it almost went thru the other side but they stiched it up and it healed in like a week.

i wouldnt consider this a good idea, but i read that muscle stimulators are useful to maintain muscle mass while dealing with an injury. this is their only purpose and im not sure i would even trust that statement but doing some research on it couldnt hurt. sorry to hear about the cut. hope all turns out well.

look at it this way... if you make it through this and do well... you can be REALLY REALLY proud. Not many people overcome. Challenges are good for the soul :)

Just letting you guys know that your support along w/ those here @ home has really helped. I've been doing what I can and won't give up. The doctor thought I was crazy when I was sitting in the hospital bed eating asparagus and chicken, lol!!!

I finally got to do something other than cardio today! Did some front and reverse pec deck, machine lateral raises, straight-arm pulldowns, back extensions, and abs. I have to really thank you guys for giving me encouragement while I cant train @ 100%. I cant wait till these stiches come out and I get back to the fun :)
Thanks again guys :o

Good luck with the hand and good luck on the road to recovery. I will be under 8 weeks after tomorrow. I have been dieting for 13 already. LONG HAUL. I am getting PUMPED!

I know the feeling man, I had a level two sprain in my left wrist 5 weeks out from the WNBF worlds last november (bike accident on the way to the gym) needless to say I was devastated. I was told to lay off for 10 weeks by the doctors which I certainly wasnt about to do. I got a doctor friend to prescribe some voltaren and I bought a wrist splint strap and a roll of duct tape and strapped it everyday until a week before the show. It was painful but I wasnt about to make that deter me from my goal and I think you have the same mindset from what I read. Just look at it as an experience helping you find strength you wont get in the gym. Mental strength.
Good Luck with your show and God Bless
