Best Protein Powder For Gaining Muscle??
-------------------------------------------------------------
I?ve been using Muscle Gauge Pure Whey Protein Isolate which has 24g protein per serving. Only 1 g of sugar per serving, Zero lactose, zero cholesterol, and the amino acid profile is good. Now I have tried many Whey Protein Isolate shakes but Muscle Gauge Pure Whey Protein Isolate taste the best, is the least expensive, and I have seen results in my body in a short amount of time. My body has transformed and I have gained lean muscle and my strength has increased amazingly in a months time.
where do you get it from, its not on here and not in my local gnc?

For those of who who are having trouble gaining. Its one of these 2 things or its both, honestly in my experience its usually both. Your not training hard enough and your not eating right. Over the last 4 weeks i have been taking pro complex half hour before my workout and 100%whey right after. If your having trouble making gains and if your pushing yourself this with a proper diet you will see some good gains. And proper nutrition means DRINKING WATER!

I think the best protein powder is "Muscle Gauge Pure Whey Protein Isolate". First of all it taste great and I don?t feel stuffed and bloated after I drink it. I have gained lean muscle and my strength has increased amazingly in a short period of time. Its amino acid profile is fantastic and it?s also lactose fee, sugar free, and fat free!!!
you can only get this stuff from ONE website at the moment, you work for them?

While people at the start of the thread were saying 100% whey proteins were junk and that the 'designer' proteins were superior are sort of right...but whey protein is amazing and both proteins should be utilized.
A whey protein should be used during the active hours, when you are quite simply keeping your blood in a positive nitrogen balance: however the time release qualities and the BCAA's in the other 'designer' protein powders are the best before bed and first thing in the morning. That is my personal idea anyhow after my research.
Also, the expensive 'designer' proteins aren't necessary. MegaShake by Dymatize has a fat content that scares people off, but it's the good fats and basically a serving before bed and one in the morning are perfect in combination with a 100% whey protein used throughout the day.

It's cool, I actually found a way to make it and any other protein powder taste GREAT!!
I put 1 serving of the protein powder, 1 serving of organic peanut butter, 8oz of skim milk and 1 cup of ice in a blender. Turns it into a high protein smoothie. Tastes AMAZING!!!

IM using Muscle Milk. Big tub costs like 25bucks (or less) at costco. Its got 26 grams of protein per serving and its not all whey which I think is good if you take it late at night. Its also got 2 grams of glutamine per serving. Taste is OK but hey, Im not drinking it for the taste.

While I am a BIG fan of Muscle Milk (especially in Smoothies and their RTD Shakes), if you don't like the taste, get rid of it. For the same price you can get much better proteins.

While the product isn't really a 100% whey isolate, (NOS Complex, Glutamine etc) it does have a lot of great additives and what whey protein it does have is of the highest quality. It is pricey, but you're getting things like glutamine peptides, ALA and NAC which are valuable nutrients that you may pay additional for anyway, if they were purchased seperately.

well i've been on this for almost 2 weeks now and i've put on just over 2kgs.
i've been having less than the recommended size serves tho.
2 scoops pre and 2 scoops post work out.
going to the gym 5 days a week also.
it's still early days but it's looking good if i can keep it up.
It will probably turn out to be quite expensive tho as for a 4.5kg tub its like $149 aussie dollars. which looks like it might last a month.
so i might be getting it in combination with another protein (and going to increase my food intake by another meal or 2 per day) and then just take this as 1 scoop before bed for recovery and maybe 1 scoop before breakfast.
time will tell if this is wise

Just wondering, I've seen many friends using this protein stuff and they gained a lot of muscles and all. But their muscle power is almost the half of what they look like. Whats up with that?
Example, a while ago we were arm wrestling and none of the guys (+-22 year old) using proteins/lifting weights were able to beat a 40 year old little man who has never even done weightlifting (only labour work).

Freakin' awesome and totally true. I don't know about most people but I just down mine...i don't sip on it for an hour over light conversation with my friends.
I've tried a bunch of different proteins over the years. I agree with the argument that 100% Whey is just the best for general use. That said, I'm going to try ON Pro Complex soon. I like all the additives.

There is nothing that is the best for that.
Unless you have insane genetics you won't be able to lose weight and gain muscle at the same time.
Choose one, and stick with it.
Either way, a good 100% Whey Protein is fine as long as you are eating properly.
Good luck.

A little off topic but Arm Wrestling is not a good example at all. Arm Wrestling has a lot to do with technique and such. Even fighting wouldn't be a good example as it has to do with technique and experience. Best way to test would be to test over several months. (Progress made once both people start working out at the same time. One with supplements and one without.)

Ok how about the fact that I can lift as much as the guys in our gym (the ones with oversized muscles) without even forcing my self like they do (they make the funniest faces:p), even though I only train with weights about 5-10 mins (then 2hours mixed cardio training) a day (5days/week) and they are on it for hours.

People say they are gaining strength and mass from whey? It is not the whey that is doing that, but the BCAA's IN the whey.( esp Leucine ) Probolic is loaded with Glutamine and BCAA's, and will keep you in an anabolic state much longer than your typical whey.
I'm pretty sure whey is great taken before and after your workout.... and other times of the day.

Unlike all of the hype you hear today, STAY AWAY from whey protein isolate! All isolated proteins are exposed to acid processing, and most have a funky taste. The human body has never adapted to consume protein in an isolated form, devoid of its nutritional cofactors. There are reports that raise concerns regarding their toxic effects on the body. Due to over-processing, protein isolates are rendered deficient in key amino acids and nutritional cofactors.

Do you have any scientific evidence to back this up? Undenatured whey isolate is one of the absolute best things you can put in your body. It can increase your body's intercellular glutathione levels which will provide many benefits. Glutathione is your body's master antioxident. It also aids your immune system and helps to detoxify the body.

Glad to see I'm not alone on the whey bandwagon. I really like Ultimate Nutrition Prostar Whey, with micro filtration. I take a scoop before and after a workout. It dissolves easily in water with a stir. It keeps my blood sugar even and gives the muscles the nutrition needed. My local store stopped carrying it so I was glad to find it in the bodybuilding store. Muscle Milk is good too as a fancy alternative.

need some advice. im in the military deployed to GTMO Cuda and they only have a select few proteins for me to chose from at the NEX. i normally use Syntha6 and cant get it here and dont really see myself using another brand ever, but since i cant get it i need to change it up till i get home in Aug. ordering online is usually how i get my stuff but it takes far to long for me to get mail here ill just buy it at the NEX. the ones i can get are:
EAS 100% Whey
Twinlab 100% Whey

my question is which of these would you all use? i really have no experience w/ any of these. thanks in advance.

so out of the AST VP2 and ON Gold Standard 100% whey you all think ON is better?
reason why im asking is that i headr very good things about VP2 but it is alot more expensive then ON and if ON does the job as good if not better then VP2 then theres no point me getting VP2

hey has anyone tried isopure whey protein isolate and which flavor is the best?
i've been on this stuff for about 2 years and i do the alpine punch flavor. it kinda tastes like you're drinking vomit but compared to the other isopures, its the best one. what i like the most is that it has zero carbs, no fat and it goes to work fast. if u read any article it will tell you to get this fast protein in first thing when you wake up and right after working out. 50g per serving! i do monster milk just before bed as this has some slow proteins to hold me over through the night and its so sooo delicious! monster milk also has 50g per serving.

The NEX can be limited when carrying sports supplements...I'm a former sailor and I had minor problems in the past especially outside of the U.S.
Based on your list I would choose Muscle Milk as my top one; second would be EAS 100% Whey; third would be Twinlab 100% Whey. Everything else on the list forget it. By the way Myoplex is made by EAS, however Myoplex is more of a Meal Replacement Drink/Powder and a daily nutrition supplement vice a straight protein supplement. So unless you want Myoplex stick with the straight protein supps.
Stay safe and thanks for your service!
need some advice. im in the military deployed to GTMO Cuda and they only have a select few proteins for me to chose from at the NEX. i normally use Syntha6 and cant get it here and dont really see myself using another brand ever, but since i cant get it i need to change it up till i get home in Aug. ordering online is usually how i get my stuff but it takes far to long for me to get mail here ill just buy it at the NEX. the ones i can get are:
EAS 100% Whey
Twinlab 100% Whey
Myoplex
Freak Fix
Muscle Milk
my question is which of these would you all use? i really have no experience w/ any of these. thanks in advance.

def gotta go with gold standard whey. Good results and tastes pretty good. The drop in Whey prices have been nice, thats a good buy too.
I bought a 6lb bag of EAS premium protien @ Costco for $30, which was my 1st bag of protein, and it did add a decent amount of muscle...now I got about 2 scoops left. From this, my next protien will be ON 100% whey (of course)...thinking about a 2lb tub just to make sure Ill like it. Anyone know of a site to get it for cheap or have a savings code?
Why not use this site? You can't really get it any cheaper. I have found some deals at GNC when the ON would be "dated" in a month or two and then bought a 5lb tub on a gold week for about $30. :) Couldn't pass that up.
Obviously, this site is top-notch for a good price.

So for the last few months, I've been pimping out ON 100% Whey. I recently discovered Muscle Gauge "Premium Blend Whey Protein".
A side by side comparison to ON 100% Whey, and you will see that Muscle Gauge is the winner. Okay, so it has 22 grams of protein instead of 24 grams. But it also has less carbs, lower cholesterol, lower fat, lower sodium, and a great Amino Acid profile.
Muscle Gauge: 5lb Tub for $29.99
ON 100% Whey: 5lb Tub for $42.99
For 2grams of less protein, I'm willing to take Muscle Gauge over ON 100% Whey. Muscle Gauge also mixes very easily. The weak point for some may be the flavor. I have the Chocolate Mint. It tastes great to me because the flavor is not very strong, which is the way I prefer it. (Personal preference I guess). Also, I did not notice any after taste.

Actually if you look at the size of the scoop ON is equal or less protein per gram. choclate is 32gr scoop /24gr protein = 75% protein.MGN is 78% with less carbs and fat.

whey protien
You are correct, in my humble opinion. Whey protein may be one of the single most important nutrients for your overall health available today. The best type of whey protein however is whey protein isolate. WPI can be made from either an ion exchange process or a cross flow filtration process. The cross flow filtration process generally yields the better quality WPI. A cold cross flow filtration also referred to a non-denatured (non-pasturized) isolate is the optimum choice. Species Nutrition Isolyze is an example of this type of protein. There is also one not offered here at BB.com, but is made in Hawaii, called HawaiiMana.

hey guys i can get the 2.91 tub of syntha-6 for 24 bucks. you think that is a better way to go(get 2 different flavor tubs) rather than spending the 43 bucks for a 5 pound tub of myofusion? At the moment i have a unopened tub of myofusion vanilla, but that was my last protein and i dont want to get sick of the flavor half way though the tub, so im contemplating taking it back. That happened when I was taking ON, the stuff would made me vomit.

It's absorbed into the body extremely fast so you should be careful when you take it to maximize your results. One scoop first thing in the morning (right after waking up) is enough to give your body some quick protein after 8 hours of sleep. Then one scoop about 10-15 minutes before your workout. The next time is crucial to muscle building. Immediately after a hard workout your muscles are primed (better than at any other time) to receive a huge amount of protein, especially the type that absorbs quickly (whey). Two scoops (50-60g) is plenty to get you on your way and help your muscle start recovering.
If this is too much you, I would focus on the pre and post-workout protein more than any other time of the day since this will be crucial to your muscle building efforts.
If money is no object for you, I would suggest also taking a casein protein (ON's Casein). Casein is digested much slower than whey and is best used as a filler protein. Take casein through out the day as you need it and then immediately before you go to bed. This will supply your body with slow digesting protein as you sleep and prevent catabolism until you take your morning whey shake.
As far as the muscle milk goes, it's a great product, especially the taste but it is incredibly expensive. It is predominantly a whey protein, but does have some casein protein in it. This would be best taken post-workout in my opinion.

Everyone is different depending on their goals. For me I prefer pre and post workout, thats about it. The rest of the day its a ton of food. I think too many people rely on these powders for their sole source of protein intake. Nothing is better than food...and lots of it

I fully agree that it depends on the individual and their goals. My preference is to obtain as much protein through my foods as possible and supplement with protein shakes to make up any deficit. I try to stay in the range of 1-1.3 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight (i.e. for a 200 lb person, that's 200-260 grams) as best I can. At the minimum you should take a preworkout and postworkout protein shake (whey) as well as consider taking a whey shake the second you wake up in the morning. One last thing to consider is taking a casein shake right before bed. The overall goal is to keep your body from slipping into catobolism which is detrimental to building optimum muscle. The preworkout shake will give you a steady flow of aminos for your workout, the postworkout shake will help you on your way to recovery, the pre-bed shake will give you a slow release of proteins while you sleep, and the shake first thing in the morning will pick up where the pre-bed shake left off. I hope this makes sense.

Hey Wazzu, so How do you know how much protein that is [grams of protein a day per pound of body weight] when you're taking into consideration all the different foods you eat and also protein shakes, right now I've been at least doing pre and post work out and usually once more during the day at some point and also, seeing I'm new to this what is casein, how does that affect you and what would you be looking to get out of it?

First of all, I would assume that the majority of people probably just estimate their protein intake each day. Some of us are a little more picky though. There are some websites out there which allow you to track your daily calories (i.e. fats, carbs, protein) which can be really handy for those unfamiliar with estimating your daily intake needs. For me, I use a fairly extensive excel spreadsheet that I created to monitor my daily needs.
My best advice for you is to get on a fairly routine eating schedule (within reason, obviously switching out different foods so you don't grow tired of eating the same thing) and count all of the calories (including your fat, carbs, and protein intake for that day) so that you know roughly what you are intaking on a regular basis. That way you can make adjustments to your diet and know that you are eating what you need. For me I try to stick to 20% Fat, 40% Carbs, and 40% Protein in terms of how they contribute to overall calories.
For example (and this is only theoretical), in your case you weight roughly 180lbs. Depending on your bodyweight and your activity level as well as your overall goals, you may require a different caloric intake than someone else your weight. Lets just say for example, that you were roughly 15% body fat an that you worked out 4-5 day a week. You target calories would be in the neighborhood of 2100-2400. Let say you are shooting for 2400 calories. You would aim for approximately 53g fat, 240g carbs, and 240g protein. Now you are concerned with protein intake. You take a pre and post workout shake as well as one other during the day, that's about 75g of protein right there. Just aim to make up the rest (approx. 165g of protein) in actual food (the only way to accurately do it is to count it out once) and make sure you are at or above your protein target.
Last thing, casein protein is a slow digesting protein, where whey is an extremely fast digesting protein. Casein can be thought of a time-released protein and there are many benefits. Casein is great to take before bed because is supplies your body with protein throughout the night. Casein is also great to take throughout your day because of the same reason, it supplies a slow release of protein and is also very filling. Whey on the other hand is absorbed so quickly that it's most beneficial when taken first thing in the morning (upon waking), pre-workout and immediately post-workout.
I hope this helps to explain things a little better for you. Good luck!

Thanks man that sounds great! I have yet to estimate my % body fat, I've been looking for ways to do this and will soon, my caloric intake a day I haven't calculated but I know I'm roughly taking in 2000-2500 calories a day, I have in the past month totally changed my diet which has definitely shown me results but I am definitely going to be taking that into better consideration, in your opinion what is the best way to get your calculated % body fat?

Man, I bought the Twisted Cherry Syntrax and it was nasty. It tasted ok going down but the aftertaste was horrid. I wanted to try a different fruit whey but this one had a nasty aftertaste. I've never had/tasted aspartame but I'd imagine the aftertaste that lingered in my mouth for hours after drinking this stuff might be a similar taste. Lucky someone bought it from me for $10. Either whey, I guess it might be personal preference but no more syntrax for me. Back to 4everfit fruit wheys. So far 4everfit is my favorite fruit whey. However, I really used to like the GF-Pro Orange Creme but that's no longer made! I guess I got kinda burnt out on the ON's except the Oats and Whey Vanilla Bean!! Yum! Also, my staple is still Syntha-6 wheys.

Dymatize(especially their 'elite' brand) has lots of awesome flavours, and a very good powder profile. I'd recommend their Chocolate Mint and their Chocolate Peanut Butter.
I'm going through a 5lbs tub of All The Whey Cup Cake Batter(fat free Isolate) right now. My only complain is the somewhat lackluster mixability. Very good specs though.

They have the best Whey to gram ratio, I believe it's every 25 grams of whey = 28 grams of powder. It tastes great and it's an exclusive products only found on:

I would go with myofusion but I can't stand sucralose or aspartame in every supplement, ugh!!!
You would think educated health conscious people would be aware of this trash.
Update: Aspartame, Sucralose, and Acesulfame seems to be the sweetener of choice in 99% of supplements. This is outrageous to me, especially when Stevia can easily be used! I would gladly pay $5 more!
Aspartame - Other Sweeteners
Many people want to know what other artificial sweeteners they can safely use instead of aspartame. My first recommendation is NOT to use any chemical sweeteners at all, but merely use natural sugars or learn to adjust to the natural sweetness of raw foods themselves.
I have provided a list of alternative artificial sweeteners available on the market today, even though I am not recommending their use over natural sweeteners. I do recommend them above aspartame, nonetheless, as their side effects are less harmful to human health.
The best thing to do is avoid all artificial and chemical sweetener substitutes. They have NO food value, trick the body into thinking it is eating something sweet, and they have by-products of harmful toxic side effects. And remember that aspartame was discovered as an ulcer drug, not a sweetener. Every diet drink you used to drink was a dose of medication .

Acesulfame Potassium (K) was approved for use by the FDA as a safe artificial sweetener in July, l988. It is a derivative of acetoacetic acid. Unfortunately, several potential problems associated with the use of acesulfame have been raised. They are based largely on animal studies since testing on humans remains limited. The findings showed the following:
Acesulfame K stimulates insulin secretion in a dose dependent fashion thereby possibly aggravating reactive hypoglycemia ("low blood sugar attacks").
Acesulfame K apparently produced lung tumors, breast tumors, rare types of tumors of other organs (such as the thymus gland), several forms of leukemia and chronic respiratory disease in several rodent studies, even when less than maximum doses were given. According to the Center for Science in the Public Interest, it was petitioned on August 29, l988 for a stay of approval by the FDA because of "significant doubt" about its safety.
Dr. H.J. Roberts, Aspartame (NutraSweet) Is It Safe?, Charles Press, page 283/84.
Aspartame (commonly misspelled as aspertame)
Aspartame, a dipeptide of aspartic acid and a methyl ester of phenylalanine, is approved for use in pharmaceutical products and is being used increasingly in chewable tablet and sugar-free formulations. Labels for both prescription and nonprescription products must include the phenylalanine content. The major consideration in the use of aspartame in children is in patients with autosomal recessive phenylketonuria. Although heterozygotes do not appear to have clinically significant increases in phenylalanine after ingestion of even large amounts (equivalent to 24 12-oz cans of diet beverages), homozygotes with strict dietary restrictions should avoid aspartame. Children without dietary restrictions could safely ingest 10 mg/kg/d. [37-40]. Dietary consumption of aspartame is typically less than 5 mg/kg/d[41]; young children, however, could ingest considerably more. For example, a 2-year-old child weighing 12 kg consumes 17 mg/kg from drinking one 12-oz can of diet soda and one serving of a sweetened product (eg, cereal, pudding, gelatin, or frozen dessert).
Headache is the most common adverse side effect attributed to aspartame but is seldom confirmed by single-dose double-blind challenge. Up to 11% of patients with chronic migraine headaches reported headaches triggered by aspartame; however, a double-blind challenge with three doses of 10 mg/kg given every 2 hours triggered no more headaches than did placebos in patients with vascular headaches believed to be exacerbated by aspartame. A small, double-blind 4-week trial showed an increase in frequency of headaches after ingestion of 1200 mg/d, indicating that a longer challenge period may be necessary.
In anecdotal reports, aspartame has been linked to various neuropsychiatric disorders, including panic attacks, mood changes, visual hallucinations, manic episodes, and isolated dizziness. A small, double-blind crossover study of patients with major depression revealed a higher incidence of reactions in these patients compared with nondepressed volunteers after administration of 30 mg/kg for 7 days; symptoms included headache, nervousness, dizziness, memory impairment, nausea, temper outbursts, and depression. None of these conditions has been rigorously proven to be caused by aspartame, but carefully conducted double-blind challenges may be indicated in patients with histories that suggest aspartame as a cause. Patients with underlying mitral valve prolapse or affective disorders may be at increased risk for neuropsychiatric effects; several studies have shown that individuals without psychiatric or seizure disorders do not demonstrate these effects.
Seizures have been reported via passive surveillance data collected by the FDA and in a few case reports. A recent analysis of FDA reports showed 41 cases of rechallenge with a temporal relationship to aspartame consumption. Most seizures occurred in patients who had an acceptable dietary intake, except for a 16-year-old who ingested up to 57 mg/kg of aspartame. Aspartame is generally considered safe for children with epilepsy. One study found increased spike-wave discharges in children with untreated absence seizures after a high dose of aspartame and suggested that children with poorly controlled absence seizures avoid aspartame.
Saccharin
Foods containing saccharin no longer carry a label stating that the "use of this product may be hazardous to your health ...contains saccharin which has been determined to cause cancer in laboratory animals." This warning was lifted in 2001 by the American FDA as saccharin no longer has been connected to cancer in human beings.
Saccharin may be present in drugs in substantial amounts. Ingestion of the recommended daily dosage of chewable aspirin or acetaminophen tablets in a school-age child would provide approximately the same amount of saccharin contained in one can of a diet soft drink. This amount, relative to the body weight of a child younger than 9 or 10 years, ingested for prolonged periods would be considered as "heavy use," as defined in a major large-scale FDA/National Cancer Institute epidemiologic study. In this study, heavy use of artificial sweeteners was associated with a significantly increased risk for the development of bladder cancer. An independent review of this study concluded that there was no association. An investigation of saccharin performed by the American Medical Association in 1985 concluded that bladder changes were species-specific, were confined to the second generation of male rats, and occurred in association with large doses (equivalent to several hundred cans of diet soft drink per day). The no-effect level was equivalent to 500 mg/kg/d.[68,69] Saccharin is not genotoxic; the presumed mechanism of toxicity is the binding of saccharin to urinary proteins (not normally found in humans), creating a nidus for the formation of silicate crystals, which are cytotoxic to bladder epithelium.
Saccharin is an O-toluene sulfonamide derivative and causes similar dermatologic reactions. Cross-sensitivity with sulfonamides has been demonstrated; therefore, children with "sulfa" allergy should also avoid saccharin. Hypersensitivity can usually be confirmed by a radioallergosorbent test for saccharin. In a series of 42 patients with adverse effects resulting from consumption of saccharin in pharmaceutical agents, pruritus and urticaria were the most common reactions, followed by eczema, photosensitivity,
and prurigo. Other reactions include wheezing, nausea, diarrhea, tongue blisters, tachycardia, fixed eruptions, headache, diuresis, and sensory neuropathy.
Ingestion of saccharin-adulterated milk formula by infants was associated with irritability, hypertonia, insomnia, opisthotonos, and strabismus, which resolved within 36 hours after ingestion. Two anecdotal reports of an accidental overdose in an adult and a child discussed reactions of generalized edema, oliguria, and persistent albuminuria. Because of the paucity of data on the toxicity of saccharin in children, the American Medical
Association has recommended limiting the intake of saccharin in young children and pregnant women.
Sucralose
Splenda, also known as sucralose, is an artificial sweetener, which is a chlorinated sucrose derivative. Facts about this artificial chemical are as follows:
Pre-Approval Research
Pre-approval research showed that sucralose caused shrunken thymus glands (up to 40% shrinkage) and enlarged liver and kidneys.
Recent Research
A possible problem with caecal enlargement and renal mineralization has been seen in post approval animal research.
Sucralose Breaks Down
Despite the manufacturer's mis-statements, sucralose does break down into small amounts of 1,6-dichlorofructose, a chemical which has not been adequtely tested in humans. More importantly, sucralose must break down in the digestive system. If it didn't break down and react at all (as the manufacturer claims), it would not chemically-react on the tongue to provide a sweet taste. The truth is that sucralose does break down to some extent in the digestive system.
Independent, Long-Term Human Research
None. Manufacturer's "100's of studies" (some of which show hazards) were clearly inadequate and do not demonstrate safety in long-term use.
Chlorinated Pesticides
The manufacturer claims that the chlorine added to sucralose is similar to the chlorine atom in the salt (NaCl) molecule. That is not the case. Sucralose may be more like ingesting tiny amounts of chlorinated pesticides, but we will never know without long-term, independent human research.
Conclusion
While it is unlikely that sucralose is as toxic as the poisoning people are experiencing from Monsanato's aspartame, it is clear from the hazards seen in pre-approval research and from its chemical structure that years or decades of use may contribute to serious chronic immunological or neurological disorders.
It is very important that people who have any interest in their health
stay aware from the highly toxic sweetener aspartame and other questionable sweeteners such as sucralose (Splenda), and acesulfame-k (Sunette, Sweet & Safe, Sweet One). Please see the extensive resources for sweeteners on the Healthier Sweetener Resource List. http://www.holisticmed.com/sweet/

I ended up going with Optimum Nutrition's Pro Complex Natural, since it used Stevia instead of the other junk.
+1 for ON for atleast offering the Natural version of their products.
I think IsoPure also have offerings that don't have artificial sweeteners.

I would go with myofusion but I can't stand sucralose or aspartame in every supplement, ugh!!!
You would think educated health conscious people would be aware of this trash.
Hey Garn. I dont' see anything on the Myofusion label above mentioning it has aspartame in it? Are you sure about this? I didn't realized that Sucralose is another name for splenda! I usually avoid splenda so I might have to watch out for Sucralose as well. Thanks for the good info. BTW, I've had Myofusion a few times and enjoyed it but might think twice now.

Hey,
It looks like it doesn't have aspartame, but sucralose as well as acesulfame. I'm a big fan of Gaspari's products effectiveness (SizeOn works amazing for me, helped get over my plateau), but was disappointed when I found it had sucralose in it. I didn't look at the "other ingredients" label the first time I took it but could immediately tell the first time I took it by the "chemical" tasting aftertaste.

Best Protein Powder For Gaining Muscle??
-------------------------------------------------------------
If you had to pick just ONE protein powder for gaining muscle, what would be the best one for the best results?
Please pick product and include the brand. Give your reasons. The best answers will be displayed on the main Bodybuilding.com site for millions of people to see!
(Note: This is not a discussion about how or when to take protein, if protein works, or why some protein powders do not work. Just list your absolute favorite protein powder and give your detailed reason.)
With out a doubt, the best protein supplement on the market today when looking strictly a gaining muscle, is Nitro-Tech Hardcore from MuscleTech. Team MuscleTech's has done it again with its high potency protein formula. It composed primarily of the higher quality, Whey Protein Isolate (97% pure), and is formulated with its patented Nano-Diffuse technology for even faster absorption by the muscles. Nitro-Tech is also fortified with a multitude of vitamins and minerals needed for the optimum growth of muscle, and contains insulin boosting agents, creating an ultra-anabolic state within the body, great for pre and post workout performance.

So is this the infomercial script or what?
Actually, according to the ingredients label, protein concentrate is the largest contributing ingredient, followed by protein concentrate that you mention.
And what in the world is nano-diffuse technology?
What constitutes an "ultra-anabolic" state?
I will never buy a product called Nitro-Tech Hardcore, just based on the name alone, lol....

In the past I have used CytoGainer but recently switched to a new product called "Maximus" and have been making some steady gains.
Maximus has 62 grams of protein per serving and uses a protein blend (whey/egg/casein) along with high fiber, low sugar, and flax seed. No stomach issues and the taste of the vanilla is phenominal, just like a milk shake.

Pretty good actually. Almost like a cookie and cream-like substance. WPI's are usually pretty thin in water, which is probably a good thing if going through 10lbs of any protein, or else you will be completely sick of it.
Needless to say, after discovering All the Whey WPI and MGN WPI, I'm sticking with them for the long run. I'm done with paying too much for 'quality' proteins that are full of cholesterol, fat and sodium.

Hello :-)
First, sorry for the OT, but these is really nice topic and it is about protein ... so please dont kill me...I am completly new here and I have found this forum accidentaly :-D when I was looking for some opinions about proteins :-)
I am looking for some good protein for me and I see that a lot of people like the ON 100%.
But I dont thing this is really best for me. It is impossible to read all 115 sites and make signs with every mentioned brand :-) Could you please give some ordere list of popularity? I have seen somethink on the shops sites...
Anyway I used to go to fitness before 2 years ago, and I dont think that the 100% protein is really good idea. I alwas go with 63% of proteins at maximum to get also some sacharids for energy and recovery... is there any opinions about this procentual proteins here? I dont know which brand should I take...
//edit: as I see another text...the label probaly doesnt mean 100% protein containing right? so what is better - standart edition or complex? or what has how much %% of protein? thank you
Well, I have read some opinions and now I dont know which one should I take. the ON standart, complex, or cassein? or which one of the nutri-tech? - i mean which on has about 60%-70%protein? thank you again
See ya

The best protein for gaining muscle is always a high quality protein blend which contains Highest quality "un-denatured" High Fraction (CFM) Whey protein Isolate and concentrates, Milk Protein Isolate (Miceller Casein) and Egg Albumin.
My favorites are Beverly Muscle Provider and Propeptide by DYA.
It's laughable that many believe ON 100% Whey comes in the same class which doesn't come even close by any stretch of imagination.
ur comparing apples to oranges my friend. ON's 100% Whey Gold is a 100% whey protein powder comprising of only whey proteins which are ideal for use after workouts and first thing in the morning. The product profile u r talking about is a multi-blend which is a medium to slow release to be used at other times of the day. As for ur fancy words "undenatured", "high fraction", CFM etc.. all of the whey proteins in ON's 100% Whey Gold are undenatured and high fraction anyway due its quadlpex blend of 4 WPI/WPC/WPP's.

I like designer whey. Always have. I'm not a bodybuilder just a guy who lifts to maintain bone density as I get older. (And, I wanted to bulk up some. I went from 157lbs to 177...mostly muscle.--taking designer and working out 3-night a week with a trainer.

Does anyone have anything posi or neg to say about Syntrax's proteins? I love the taste of Nectar and then started taking the Perfect Chocolate Matrix. I love the tastes of both and seem to get good gains.
I also take ON on and off. Any opinions on Syntrax though?

Bioplex All Natural WPI. I've been on it for three months with about 200 grams per day. This definitely works. Its just straight protein. The taste, well, it does leave a weird after taste. Not bitter, but just weird.
Any thoughts on this kind?

Well, people should know that there ae a lot of protiens for many difeent things. Casein, whey, soy, and even egg are in powders for convienent use. I personally like Eas protien, but if you're tight on a budget, go with Pro-Nos for that extra pump. Micellar and hydrolyzed whey protein are my favorite forms, because besides from whey, casien, soy, and egg, there are diffeent processing forms of protien as well.

I tried syntrax Twisted Cherry and thought it was terrible! Whatever sweetener they used with that flavor left a terrible aftertaste for the longest time! I went back to 4everfit Tropical Mango and YUM much better! Can't wait to try the new flavor Black Raspberry that BB is carrying now!

My straight answer: Mix the following and make sure you use exact gram amounts:
? 266 g Prolab N-Large2 (apprx 7 scoops)
? 35 g Higher Power Casein Power (apprx 1 scoop)
? 9 g Total Body Research Colostrum
? 80 g Garden of Life Super Seed
That makes for a total of 390 g of the best MRP or Weight Gainer. Using 92 g of this provides you with approximately 28 g protein, 35 g carbs, 5.5 g fiber, and it?s also a good source of vitamins, minerals and omega-3 oils. Personally, one dose of this keeps me full for at least 4 hours, so it?s also good for when you want to lose weight, because you don?t eat so much. I should also mention that is costs $3.85 per serving if you buy from BodyBuilding.com.
Elaboration (for those who like to spend time reading):
So, for a long time I?ve been experimenting with different formulas in order to find the right combination of protein to carb ratio (P/C) and fiber while having a good taste.
Why the concern fot a P/C ratio? The right P/C is 0.77 to 0.8 or 3 parts of protein for 4 parts of carbs. When I say ?right?, I mean a P/C ratio that will have the optimum effect on your hormonal system right after eating, thus putting you in the most anabolic and illness-resistant state possible. This is well documented by a doctor called Barry Sears; his 15 years of research has helped people fight obesity, diabetes, chronic pain and inflammation and other various conditions. The Zone Diet he developed even helped me focus better for my studies, sleep better and be less stressed. Dr Sears has a series of supplements including an MRP with the same composition as the one I developed. The difference? The one I showed you here is 1.5 times cheaper while still having the same effect.
Why Prolab N-Large? Because it?s a good base protein to start with. Its P/C ratio is close enough to what I desire, so it needs little supplementation, and it?s loaded with vitamins and minerals.
Why HP Casein? Because Casein digests slower, thus keeping you fuller for a longer time. And you got your portion of whey from Prolab anyway. The other reason is because HP is much cheaper than any other; why pay more for the same product? Because it has fancier labels and is better promoted? You don?t want to pay someone else?s marketing campaign, do you?
Why Colostrum? Because it adds to the P/C ratio, and it gives better taste to the whole formula. Some may believe that it is also effective at boosting anabolism, but that doesn?t interest me; for one thing, it?s definitely not bad (I haven?t seen anyone saying colostrums is bad).
Why GL Super Seed? Because it?s the only fiber product that:
? Mixes well with the rest powders and in the liquid after.
? Has various fiber sources including Chia (Very Good)
? It has both soluble and insoluble fiber
? Contains omega-3 oils
? It?s the cheapest of its kind

Actually 100% whey protien is also pretty decent in the price range and prtoien availability. people also need to understand that bulking up is a good thing foryou will gain a little you kniow, but it's ok because if you shred too quickly your are going losemuscle mass and look flat out.

What do you guys think about
ON Pro-Complex vs. ON Hydro whey vs. AST VP2 VS. 100% gold standard?
I've been using gold standard for about 2 years, and lookin for a change
As i understand Procomplex is an Isolate like Hydro whey, except it's filled with allot more BCAA's, and other ingredients, while Hydro whey is just an isolate without all the Glutamines, BCAA's and such, and VP2 is just a high quality Isolate
Which should i go for. If i'm goin with Pro-Complex which flavor would u guys recommend?

on gold standard is mine and all of my friends favorite protein. to build muscle, you obviously need a protein and it is the best tasting, most effective, best price for a protein on the market. i use it in between meals, pre, and post workout. always a scoop and a half, never use over 30 grams in a hour of the powder. you'll jus fart out anything over the 30 grams and in relation, wastes $$$.

Im def a noob, but I am happy with my choices in protein so far. ON Gold Standard and Casein are woking great for me. I have made significant gains in just about everything and I love the taste and mix-ability. I've stuck to the chocolate flavors and they are all awesome - just like drinking choc milk as a kid. I dont plan on switching anytime soon as I see no reason to do so....but I would like to hear from someone who has a reason to switch to ON's Hydro whey.

ur comparing apples to oranges my friend. ON's 100% Whey Gold is a 100% whey protein powder comprising of only whey proteins which are ideal for use after workouts and first thing in the morning. The product profile u r talking about is a multi-blend which is a medium to slow release to be used at other times of the day. As for ur fancy words "undenatured", "high fraction", CFM etc.. all of the whey proteins in ON's 100% Whey Gold are undenatured and high fraction anyway due its quadlpex blend of 4 WPI/WPC/WPP's.https://www.fitnessphreaks.info/workout/upload/34/b/happy.gif
This. Can't go wrong with ON's

So everyone says i got the perfect height and starting weight to start working out, last 3 months i've just been curling small dumbells (20-25lbs) so i'm gonna grab a tub of ON 100% Gold standard, hopefully Chocolate mint from the reviews i've been hearing and HIT THE GYM HARD :D
If there are any other helpful tips or advice, it would be much appreciated!

I haven't read the whole thread, but I went back about five pages and...
Am I the only one here who uses 'tru3 Proti3n' (why was that edited out?) to get their protein? The flavor choices are enormous, you can choose anywhere from 1-1 gazillion lbs at a time, you can add protease (a must for me if I want to avoid gastro problems).
I use their 'Team Skip' and I add about 5 grams L-leucine to it. Team skip is equal 3rds Whey, Egg, and Micellar Casein.
My favorite flavors are Double Dutch Chocolate and Cookie Dough.

it sounded too pre composed to not be a real person with an actual opinion...I'm sick of company reps doing free advertising at the expense of the populous...
judgement day is real and industry quaiprostitutes are liars
I doubt if this guy even lifts, far to busy pitching products as opposed to simply saying what he uses and why....are the directions really that hard to follow?

Throw in some no-xplode pre workout but looking at changing it when I'm empty to some White Flood, but not thinking about changing the Optimum Whey Protein, good product

Max muscle has great stuff they have a bunch of suplements that are a derivative of the pro hormone tren. I saw huge gains while taking tren extreme.

Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey post workout.
Syntha-6 as a meal replacement.
How are you going to use syntha as a meal replacement when 1 scoop is only 20g of protein and 200 calories and basically nothing else.
Look at the label and compare it to True Mass from the same company. That's more of a meal replacement then syntha is.

I used that junk a while back and in terms of gains i made in comparison to ON's nitro core the body fortress didn't even make a dent. It's a sad fact but usually the best products are the most expensive. Am I right!
