Hi Krystal,

What you are doing already sounds great and congratulations for taking the first step to be healthier :) It is going to be a slow process to loose the weight. If you do it the right way, you should only loose maximum of 2 pounds per week. Just make sure to eat 6 small meals a day and drink at least a gallon of water a day as well. Keep going to the gym and pump that iron girl....it will help you shed the fat off your body faster. And no you wont get all buffed out..muscle burns more calories than fat. Why don't you post what a normal day for you..eating wise and what kind of workout do you do at the gym? Good luck and hope to hear from you soon.

weight loss is quite simple actually, in the off season i add about 30-65 pounds of fat and shed it in about 4-6 months. all you need to know to lose weight is this, consume less calories than you consume. by eating healthy you are putting fewer calories into your body than you burn, by doing cardio you are burning calories. haveing a calorie deficit in your system=weight lose. but you ahev to be careful not to reduce the calories to much at once this can cause muscle catabolism(detirioration of muscle). simple eh;)

i don't loss weight i lose inches

A normal day for me is

breakfast: A bowl of mini wheat cereal, and 2% milk

Lunch: turkey sandwhich, with cheese, and nothing else

dinner: vegatables, broiled or baked chicken or turkey

before work out: glass of water, and some kind of fruit, and protein bar

after work out: water, and protein shake

MsFit

Try:
Breakfast: Bowl of oatmeal make with water and a few egg whites. (wheat cereal is processed, not the best thing for weight loss, and you need protein in every meal)

Lunch: Grilled turkey, brown rice, and green veggies (forget the cheese for weight loss)

Dinner: Grilled chicken breast and half a baked sweet potato. (complex carbohydrates before working out)

After workout: Fruit and protein bar or drink

Drink water between meals, add a few nuts (almonds, cashews) for snacks.

I agree with Ms. Fit. The main problem I see is that you may be going too long between meals if you are only eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I would put a snack in between each of those meals. Nuts are good, but I think you might want to have more protein and some vegetables. A good snack would be a small protein shake, some nuts or flax seeds/flax seed oil, and some brocolli and carrots. Have this kind of snack between breakfast and lunch and between lunch and dinner. It only takes 5 minutes to eat, so you should be able to find time at work. Those extra meals will go a long way towards raising your metabolism. To lose fat at a good pace, you want to make sure to get good protein with every meal. You also want healthy vegetables with meals as often as possible. And you want good sources of unsaturated fats(the best is flax seeds/flax seed oil, olive oil, nuts, and fish) with most meals.

My 2 cents is don't fret about losing weight. Muscle is 4 times heavier than fat so you can be losing fat and putting on muscle yet staying the same weight! You could be developing one HELLA physique which'll bust right outa there when the fat eventually goes and you'll be..like...DAMN!!!

Sorry, but that's very bad advice. Did you take into consideration that it's a female who's not a bodybuilder with a weight issue? Her concern at the moment is not a tight, ripped physique, but rather general weight loss.

A pound of muscle and a pound of fat weight exactly the same, a pound. Muscle takes up less space in is more dense then fat. Muscle is meatbolically active and the more you acquire, the faster your metabolism.

At 5'3" and 338 pounds, I think there is a weight loss and health concern. Those stats are not comparable to a bodybulders so your nutriton and exercise will vary slightly. Your primaly focus is weigh loss. Focus on proper nutrition, cardio, and resistance training, in that order.

Hey Krystal,

Maybe you should try taking a thermogenic supplement. Have you ever considered that? Taking a thermogenic supplement will speed up your metabolism and get you on the right track-I believe. You have much weight to loose and it may take you awhile, but hang in there. Like every suggests, take in 5-6 small meals a day. Eat lots of vegetables (veggies take energy to digest, thus you end up with a calorie deficit) as well. Keep the fruit intake at a low-limit yourself to maybe 3 fruits a week, or 4. Fruit has sugar in it-fructose-and sugar will make you fat unless it is used before a workout. Stay away from starchy carbohydrates (potatos, oatmeal, rice, yams ) later in the day. Most importantly, consume lots of protein! Eat protein sources such as cottage cheese, 100% natural unsalted peanut butter, tuna, salmon, edamane, etc. If you have a big appietite, eat your largest meal when you first wake up in the morning. Something like this:
1 cup of cooked oatmeal (none of the packaged sugary oatmeal though)
3-4 egg white, one whole egg
1 container of fat free yogurt (less than 15 grams of sugar)
and a small banana
This should give you a blast of energy to get through the day. What is important is that you eat every 2-3 hours. Yes, I know you want to loose weight, so why would you eat more meals?! But the very act of consuming food (healthy food..) uses energy from your body and burns calories. This means your metabolism will speed up! And your body will have a constant flow of nutrients. Your body will eventually become accustomed to eating ever 2-3 hours and will not think there is a famine. When you go many hours without eating, your metabolism slows down, your blood sugar levels drop, you become tired and cranky, and your body stores the fat more easily becus it believes it will not be recieving any food for a long time-so it thinks it needs to save up all that food for the next 5 hours till dinner.....i hope this all makes sense to you! I recommend that you keep going to the gym and doing your cardio, start eating frequent healthy mini meals, and READ as much as you can about nutrition! Bodybuilding.com has a wealth of health and nutrition articles that I am so thankful for! Check them all out and read them over and over till you get it!

Taking thermos is a start, will give you energy and speed up your metabolism, but approach with caution. Krystal, until you get a marjority of that weight off, you are a risk factor, making you susceptible you a multitude of illnesses and diseases, one of them being diabetes. If you do decide on a thermo, begin slowly, cycle it and take time off from it. Supplements are just that, a supplement. Nothing can compare to quality nutrition.

Eating real food rather than quick shakes are best because food makes your body work, digest. I recommend a lot of fibrous veggies. Fiber is non-digestable, but acts as a filler and cleanses your intestional track of toxins from all the processed foods. Fiber is necessary for proper cellular, bodily function, and weight loss.

Natural fresh fruit contains fructose and fiber, hence, not effecting the insulin as a regular refined sugar would do. Sugar from fruit is the only sugar that's safe and allowed for weight loss. Fructose is best taken in immediately after weight training to replinsh glycogen.

Complex carbohydrate are great for energy, provided they are natural and not processed. This is not always an easy task, so choosing the brown and green complex carbs over the white ones will simplify it.

Krystal you are doing a fantastic job. MsFit has given you some awesome advice. Just remember to take it one day at a time. Everytime I finish with my weights I feel that I'm a step closer, and when I complete my cardio I'm another step closer. But what keeps me on the journey to being healthy is my eating. I try to eat healthy but I don't bash myself if I slip. Keep going and you will get there!!!!!!!

And you shouldn't. Protein diets are crap, to put it simply.

Just make sure you eat everything in moderation and exercise.
Make sure you don't eat the white bread, ditch the cheese (substitute with skim milk if you want to).

You could also try drinking couple of glasses of skim milk as a snack. Or make yourself a sandwich with cottage cheese. That should keep you filled up until your next meal.

Keep it up and you'll definetely see results.

sounds like youre doing good I just thought id say a couple things that helped me. if you treat youre body like a furnace you will have the right idea you need fuel to burn fat. ive read that fibrous vegetables cant stick to you because youre body cant digest it like broccoli. another thing i use is low fat parmesan cheese as a substitute, all the skim milk cheeses are better than say chedder. oh yeah and try not to eat after 7:00 at night just veggies steamed broccoli with a little low fat dressing mmmmmmmm ! keep up the good work

I like all the advice you gave to KYRSTAL. The Atkins diet is good. The diet that I am going to elaborate will help to loose the weight on time. MUST HAVE ACCESS TO A cardio in the morning. BUY ONE OR BORROW IT. MORNING cardio is the best and the cycle is going to be ketogenic diet
protein 50% carbs 20% and th good fat 30%. The carbs should less 7 pm. Protein and salad or vegetables at night if you are craving for food or sugar try with protein with peanut butter.PLEASE no diary food at night like milk because of the sugar contents. water all day a gallon or more.

Personal Tainer is good but if you really want it so bad you have to sacrifice your sugar and carbs habbit regardless of personal trainer. I did it with discipline and persistence. At first it was difficut to cut the carbs. I decided to get a bike the cheapest at SEARS and set wake up alarm like half hour in the morning ride it for half hour. IF want to add FAT BURNER but be careful of the heart problem or any problems that might occur. Get the non-ephedra first and see the tolerance. EAT less calorie each day. Each day write all what you eat from the time you wake up and change it little bit. If shopping for grocery try to read NUTRIENTS FACTS LOOK FOR LESS SUGAR AND SODIUM.
six time meal a day
more vegetables
less carbs
breakfast a must with less sugar and 8 ounzes of water
3 hours later snack less sugar and sodium and water

Lots of people rave about Xenadrine.

Krystal, I read your thread.. and sympathize with you.

Did you start eating 6 times/day? I did. I also adopted a ketogenic diet, e.g. ditch all the carbs. I am on a targeted ketogenic diet and ingest 25 g of carbs before lifting or before a spinning lesson. And around 20 g of carbs throughout the day from dairy (cottage cheese) and veggies and hot chili sauce.

You are a very big girl Krystal and just to maintain your health you should be eating a LOT.
The rule of thumb is 10 x your body weight (in lbs) for a woman who wants to lose weight (12x for a male) , so in your case (338 lbs ?) or if it's 300 lbs now around 3000 kcal. Divided in 6 parts all over the day...

Tell us whether you calculated your food intake? I never did before I started this diet and I suppose that I ate far too little protein and also far too little fat.. you really need good fats.
I am starting my day by taking a huge spoonful of flax seed oil, which is a wonderful source of omega-3 fatty acids, if it was only not so yuckily tasting, I'd eat more of it.

I'm thinking that people who keep maintaining that the low-fat diet is the way to go should start shutting their mouth.. and wash it out with soap. The true way to fat loss is to keep the furnace burning with fats that are good for you.

Nearly every single person I know who's on a low-carb diet has had success with it.. but you need to fine-tune it. Eat too much and you won't lose weight, eat too little, and your body will hold onto the fat as well.. and of course eat the right fats (vegetable oils, fatty fish) and eat a lot of fish, eggs & grass-fed meats (e.g. lamb's meat)

I lost 8 kg (about 18 lbs) in 2 months but then I stalled. I had gone cycle-touring with my brother who eats very little, it was a drag to make him eat.. so as a result I ate less too and lost weight, but also lost my strength.

I have been plateauing ever since.. between 72 and 75 kg (158-165 lbs). I still need to drop about 20 lbs more.. but it is very hard even though I eat the proper amount of food, train with weights 5x /week, attend a spinning class 2-3x /week and cycle 150K (=100 miles) a week..

So, I drew a deep breath and ordered ephedrine (the pure unadultered chemical stuff) and will combine it with caffein pills (or coffee) and will see whether that helps .

I am also looking at www.caloriesperhour.com in order to see how many cals I am really burning.. so perhaps I'm eating far too little in order to lose weight.

Another reason might be a disease.. I have asked the doctor to look at my thyroid levels and after someone suggested I might have PCOS , I had other hormones checked as well (but results aren't in yet). Symptoms are hair loss/thinning hair on head, and unwanted hair in other regions due to highish testosterone levels, irregular cycles, diabetes II, tiredness, lack of libido.. I had all those symptoms, though my cycle had become very regular when I cycle-toured for a full year.

Reading your posts, it is apparent that you are looking for an easy way to lose weight and get into great shape.
There is no easy way.
No fat burner is going to work, unless you are dieting and exercising.
No personal trainer at the gym will help without a clean diet at home.
No diet is going to work with exercise...and vise versa.

You have to make a commitment to yourself to lose this weight and to do it with hard work and determination.
All of us here would love to eat cake and icecream or not have to get up at 430am to hit the gym every day.
But we do whatever has to be done to be healthy and to look good. It is not easy. But the end results make it all worthwhile.

You are 17 years old. Start right now to make a change in your life. We are here to support you and motivate you. But you need to make the decision to do this the right way and stick to it.
I hope you do. :)

Krystal -
I know first hand what you are going through. I spent my whole childhood and teenage years being extremely overweight.
And I used to do the same thing you are doing now - looking for a quick fix or an easy way out -
Unfortunately - there is none.
You need to make a conscious decision -
do you want to be healthy? do you want to feel good about yourself?
Set goals for yourself. Don't expect results overnight, because you didn't get this way overnight.
For example - I remember the way I started out , my goal was to be able to go to the beach and take my shorts off. (I NEVER EVER TOOK MY SHORTS OFF - I was always too embarrassed about my legs and butt)
My next goal was to wear a two piece bathing suit.
After that, my goal was to be comfortable running on the beach!!! LOL!
Trust me when I tell you - that each and every time I reached my goal -
it was the most AMAZING, and INCREDIBLE feeling ever!!
You can do it too! I have faith in you.
Just set your mind to it and you can acheive anything you desire!!
LOTS OF LUCK!!!
