--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have an issue that I need advice on regarding training. I currently weigh 132 and want to get down to about 118. I also want to in few years compete in fitness. My body fat is around 20% and I also want to lower that. Yet, I've had 2 trainers tell me different things. One advised me to do weight train 4 days a week, doing each body part only once a week ( legs only once a week since i need to trim out my lower body where i store fat) and an hour of cardio a day. While the other trainer wants me to do train weight train 4 days a week, doing each body part twice a week, and lifing some part of my lower every session to trim it out, and recommends at least doing 1/2 hour of cardio and an hour on my non weight traing days. I really want to do this right, and get good results. What's your advice?

The key to losing weight is in your diet.

The key to building muscle is in your weight training program.

Cardio is for heart health and a finishing touch to the above (until you are pre-contest and then you will likely do insane amounts of it).

For now, you would probably be welled served with an upper/lower split or full body routine, a sound eating program and cardio 3-4x per week.

A very helpful book, even for women, is the Arnold Schwarzenegger Encyclopedia. It covers everything from nutrition - exercises (with pictures) - losing weight - competition - etc. It helps me a lot & you won't have to use a trainer unless you're more comfortable. It cost me about $25.

First, you should listen to one person. Too many cooks in the kitchen can spoil a good meal. ;) Secondly, I'd stick with trainer that has you training each muscle group only once a week.

A good book to check out is Iron Dolls (http://www.theelitephysique.com/irondolls) :D
