That's good news.
What area would that be?

The area where the smoke of 20 forest fires meet. Blech! Man am I glad that smoke has cleared out.

Your references to pre-surgery weights reminded me of a t-shirt I saw yesterday. I thought it would be prefect for guys like me who have many years between their glory lifting days and today, it said:

"THE OLDER I GET THE BETTER I WAS"

LOL! Well, I think you're gonna find that your glory days aren't nearly as far behind you as you really thought they were. May take a bit of time, but we're every bit as capable of making amazing gains as we were when we were younger. Sometimes even more capable.

Same goes for my back too .

Some people do better with heavy weight/low reps, but after experimenting and much trial and error, I've found that my lats respond better to volume more than anything else.

Hey Jag,
Those reverse grip bench presses - how far apart are your hands on those?
I'm thinking of modifying my routine and might have a play with them.

I move them out quite a ways. A bit wider than shoulder width, actually. Any closer than that hurts my wrists quite a bit. I really love that lift, though.

Nice arm work, Jag. Good job also on the T-bar rows.

I'm glad the high volume on the chins is working for you. I like how you are marryng the increased intensity on the other movements as well. As always your workouts are well-rounded and I always look forward to seeing the little wrinkle you throw in there.

Thanks, Ray! Lots of trial and error has gone into finding what levels of volume and intensity work the best for me on each body part. I don't evolve my routine a whole hell of a lot, but once in awhile I glean something useful from somebody else and integrate it into what I'm doing. :)

Hope ya'll are having a great Friday and have a fantastic weekend in store for you!

Heya, folks. Intended to do a little bit of cardio this afternoon now that the smoke has cleared the air as it would have been good for my lungs after breathing dirty junk for nearly a month straight, but I got sidetracked working on some electronica. When my creative bug comes alive and I get inspired, I tend to get pretty absorbed in it. At any rate, I have a new song coming along nicely. Took a break from it this evening to have dinner with my folks and spend some time with Lady Jag. Chest & tri's comin' at me tomorrow. Hope your weekend is treating ya'll spectacular!

Adding the riff from Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water" would be apt considering all the forest fires in the area ;)

What she said

Heh! More like "touchy"!. :D LOL!

The Workout

Preface: 30 second stretch from multiple angles after each segment/exercise followed by a tight flex/squeeze on the appropriate muscle group to really flush the blood in there. Kept rest times between 30-60 seconds.

Jump rope - High speed for 45 seconds, rest for 15 seconds. I repeat this over and over for five full minutes. It's a good light warmup and gets the blood pumping. I do this before every workout.

NO ABS THIS WEEK (YAY!)

Reverse Grip Hammer Style Incline DB Presses (http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showpost.php?p=8533921&postcount=63) - 75 lbs. (each DB) 3x6 - Lately I've been doing these with an ever full rotatation on every other rep. On odd reps I'll bring the DB's down in a hammer grip position and then on even reps I'll rotate them all the way around to a palms up position (standard bench press grip position) before rotating them all the way back around on the way up. WOW does that burn!

Flat DB Bench - 105 lbs. (each DB) 2x6 & 110 lbs. x 6 - Hit the 110's on the very last set. I got all 6 reps...barely. Don't think I would have been able to use the 110's for the entire routine. Still, 110 is pretty much where I left off prior to my surgery, so I managed to get back to my pre-surgery weights on this lift. Nice.

Flat DB Flies -60 lbs. (each DB) 3x6 - Realllly nice stretch on these. I'm going as wide as I can lately and pushing a heavy squeeze at the top of each rep.

Dips -Bodyweight + 90 lbs. -3x6 - These are an ass kicker at this weight!

Reverse Grip Bench - 205 - 3x6 -- Started off trying to do Close Grip Bench and for some reason today I just couldn't do them even at a lighter weight. Switched back over to these isntead.

Cross-Bench DB Pullovers - 105 - 3x6 -- Last set was murder!

PWO Supershake(tm) and then cranked out 15 minutes on the "epileptical", which felt pretty good since I haven't been able to really do much cardio the last month or so, with the smoke that was hanging in the air. Now that it's gone, I can start digging back into that just a bit.

Total lift time: 50 minutes. (not including warm-up/abs/cardio)

So, solid workout. My body is starting to tell me that it's ready for a bit of a break, so I'm glad that I've got a bit of a rest planned after this tenth week of post-surgery lifting. Hope ya'll are having a great weekend!

Excellent stuff, jag! Is it really 10 weeks of post surgery workouts? Man, time passes way too fast.

Get some rest.

Yep, I know it's hard to believe but it's been almost 10 weeks since the surgery. I've been pretty happy with my progress in that time and I've pretty much hit my previous working weights on all but a handful of lifts, not to mention healed very quickly from my surgery and am already reaping the benefits of having it done. Gotta love it! One more back/bi's workout on Thursday and then I'm going to enjoy a nice solie 7-10 days off, enjoying some vacation time with the Missus.

Great workout Jag.

Thanks, Joel! I've really felt "on" in the gym the last couple of weeks, other than those CGBP's. I haven't had a lift just not work for me at all like that in a VERY long time. Weird.

Morning Jag! Glad to hear the "friendly" skies aren't bugging you so much anymore! The smoke seems to have stuck around long enough here to give all of us in my house continual stuffy noses. Grrr.

The smoke has been much better for me, without a doubt. Sorry your and your family is still getting the short end of the stick. We've been getting a little bit of rain which has helped even more, so no complaints about that!

Look at those dips! You're a monster.

Happy Monday buddy.

Hey thanks, bro. I gotta say, it's been great getting back to two plates on those. When I first started back after the sinus surgery doing them at bodyweight I half wondered if I'd ever get back to 90's again. I'm really glad I've been able to do that.

Nice workout, jag! My body always tells me it's break time.

Per usual, younglbood's got the inside scoop. Thanks for filling me in, man. Don't know what happened with the CGBP's the other day. They just wouldn't budge for me. I'm hoping it was an isolated incident.

I'm WAYYYYYYYYYY behind on everyone's journals. I've had a full week at work and it's only Tuesday! I'll try to catch up later this week with everyone and see what ya'll have been up to!

The Workout

Got home late from work and pretty much jumped right into my workout because I knew if I sat down I wouldn't be lifting. Once I got rolling, I felt really strong and had a killer workout tonight. Here's how it went.

Preface: 30 second stretch from multiple angles and then 10 second hard flex after each segment/exercise. Kept rest times between 70-90 seconds.

Jump rope - High speed for 45 seconds, rest for 15 seconds. I repeat this over and over for five full minutes. Good light warmup.

NO ABS THIS WEEK

ATG Barbell Squats – W/U 1 - 185 x 8; 250 @ 3x6 - Up 10 lbs. over last week, but boy did I really have to work for these tonight. This puts me pretty much where I was at before my surgery. I pushed 255 for a couple of sets before I got my sinus work done, but nothing consistent. I'll be able to top that in no time. My goal is 300 ATG by the end of the year and I'm pretty confident I can hit that.

Standing Calf Raises - 250 lbs. 3x20 - Still not quite ready for Donkey Calves just yet, so I stuck with these again.

SLDL's - 220 lbs. - 3x6 - Up 5 lbs. for a NEW PB!!!!

DB Military Press – 50 lbs. on each DB -3x6 -Worked in a few slow negatives and even a couple of 1/2 reps.

BB Shrugs - 260 - 3x8 - Alternated between a close and shoulder-width grip. 3 count at the top of most reps and held the bar at the bottom for 10 on each set. Ran sets of 8 just to gert a couple of extra reps in for good measure. Really liking the way this particular weight range hits my traps, so I've kept it right here even though I can go heavier. I'm getting better growth at this weight than I do with the heavier weight I've done in the past. Interesting. I added 5 lbs. to the mix tonight just for fun.

Standing Side Lateral Raises - 45 lbs. -3x6 -- Keeping with the 45's on these for awhile.

Rear Delt Row - 70 lbs. 3x6 -- Up 10 lbs. NEW PB!. I'm still finding my ceiling on these, but I don't want to rush it just yet as that's how injuries happen.

Got my PWO Supershake™ and stretched out. No cardio tonight because it just got too late on me.

Total Lift Time - 55 minutes. (abs/warmup not included)

Killer leg/shoulder workout and a nice way to wrap up the last 10 weeks. If I can hit 275 on my deads on Thurdsay, I'll have all my pre-surgery weights back up, since I'd dropped a bit on those from 315 for some reason (I'll have to go back and read my logs and see why I'd dropped the weight down, but I believe it was due to an issue with my inner left thigh if I remember correctly). Nice. Hope ya'll are having a great week! Tomorrow is Monday Part III for me at the office, starting at 7am and wrapping up around 6pm. Yay. :(

Cheers!

Hey, thanks, camchad! Being back at my pre-surgery weights sure seemed a long way off right after my surgery, but I'm just about there. It's only been three months since I got my schnoz bored out, too, so I'd say I've made some pretty good progress. And thanks for the well wishes on the time off. I'm more than ready for it!

Hey, good to see you around, man! Hope you're still hitting the weights, even if you haven't had much time for this place, and that all is well with you!

Man! Been a crazy couple of days around here! Work's been pretty busy and keeping me hopping. I swear, sometimes I'm nearly positive that I work with a bunch of crack babies. I've also been trying to catch up on things around the house that I need to get taken care of before we take off and leave town for a few days. I also wound up having to put a new battery in Lady Jag's car yesterday. Guess the cooler weather brought out the weakness in it. At any rate, I'm ready for some time off, both from work and from the weights. A week of hedonism and debauchery should do me some good. :D

On another front, saw my urologist today and he thinks we're ready to do a semen analysis to see where I'm at and if it would be a good time to start making some jag-sicles or not. I called my wife and told her I had a date with a specimen jar. LOL! :D

The Workout

Had a really busy day at work and was pretty wiped, mentally by the time I got home. Had to really force myself to hit the weights tonight because of it, but once I got rolling I had a stellar workout.

Preface: 30 second stretch from multiple angles after each segment/exercise. Kept rest times between 70-90 seconds.

Jump rope - High speed for 45 seconds, rest for 15 seconds. I repeat this over and over for five full minutes. Good light warmup.

NO ABS THIS WEEK

3x10 - Shoulder Width Grip Pullups - BW only
3x10 - Hammer Grip Sternum Pullups - BW only

High volume still working for me.

Rack Pull Deads - W/U - 185 3x6/Working Sets - 275 - 3x6 -- Up 20 lbs. to 275 which puts me where I left off prior to my sinus surgery, which had me dealing with a slightly pulled muscle in my left inner thigh. A ways to go before I'm back at 315 but at the rate I'm moving on these, that shouldn't take me long.

DB Rows - 3x6 @ 100 - Up 5 lbs.from the last time I did these for a new PB!!!!

Standing DB Curls - 45 lbs. - Very nice form and pump on these, though I will say that the pre-exhaustion from the pullups really notified me of it's presence while I was doing these.

Concentration Curls - 45 lbs. - Up 5 lbs. on these. Great pump!

Superset - 95 lbs
Reverse BB Curls
Forearm Curls

Got my PWO Supershake™ and stretched out. Got a little too late for cardio, but I'm going to be doing a lot of walking on my vacation, so it will even out.

Total Lift Time - 60 minutes. (abs/warmup not included)

So, a very nice workout and a great way to wind up 10 weeks of post-op lifting. This puts me at three months out since I had my sinus surgery and I'm now pretty much back to the levels I was at before I took time off for the operation. I'm pretty happy with my progress in that time.

Hope ya'll are doing great. I'll try to catch up with everyone's journals tomorrow sometime. Have a great night!

I'll post a few photos when I get a spare moment. A lot going on at work to catch up on first, though. Planning on starting back on the weights on Sunday.

Heya, folks! Been a busy few days. The worst part of coming home from vacation is the crap that piles up for you to while you are away! Yeesh! At any rate, hitting chest and tri's in about 30 minutes, here, but in the meantime I finally got a chance to put up some pic's of our trip. You can find those HERE (http://s89.photobucket.com/albums/k203/jaguarr2/Oregon%20Coast%20-%202006/), but here's just a little taste of some of the great pics we snapped:

That's gorgeous, Jag. Someone is a good photographer, too.

Thanks, dbfl! I am mediocre to borderline awful when it comes to portrait photography, but let me shoot scenics, nature, wildlife and architecture and I manage to grab some pretty good stills. The fun part about the one above and the others I took during that timeframe, is that there were a BUNCH of freaks with big-ass pro-level cameras on tripods running around taking pictures of anything BUT these great scenes I happened to be shooting. A couple of them noticed me doing this and saw what I was seeing and started following me around and trying to shoot what I was shooting. After I amassed a small entourage of about five "assistant" photographers, getting in my way and distracting me, I started to get a bit irritated. So, I turned around and started pretending to take pictures of the houses on the hillside behind us at the start of the beach (I run my Cannon G5 with a silent shutter mode since I like to shoot wildlife and don't want to startle them when I'm shooting, so these people had no idea I wasn't really taking pictures), curious to see if these idiots would start doing the same thing. Sure enough, after about two or three minutes, I had all five of 'em turned around and taking pictures of the hillside. LOL! I quickly escaped to a new location, far away from those guys while they were distracted, and resumed taking pictures of what I was trying to shoot to begin with. Most of those people stayed and took countless shots of the hillside, which really wasn't worth shooting. :D

Awsome pic, dude!!

Thanks, man! Thank God for digital cameras! I can shoot to my heart's content and then dump what I don't like, which is usually quite a bit. LOL!

The 'surfer at sunset' looks wicked cool.

Thanks, man! I happened to get lucky, catching that. We found a nice piece of driftwood at Otter Rock State Park beach to watch the sun set the last night we were in Newport. This is a popular spot with the surfers and he just happened to wander into view and I thought it looked cool so I snapped a shot of him. Turned out pretty cool, I think.

The Workout

I was excited to get back to the weight today. I discovered that I was feeling pretty strong once I got into it and was able to pick up right where I left off before the week long break. Here's how it went:

Preface: 30 second stretch from multiple angles after each segment/exercise followed by a tight flex/squeeze on the appropriate muscle group to really flush the blood in there. Kept rest times between 70-90 seconds.

Jump rope - High speed for 45 seconds, rest for 15 seconds. I repeat this over and over for five full minutes. It's a good light warmup and gets the blood pumping. I do this before every workout.

Murderball Crunches w/25 lb. plate - 3x25

(each DB) 3x6 - Very nice pump on these, tonight.

Alternating between a chest focus and a tri focus.

Reverse Grip Bench - 205 - 3x6 -- Yowza!

Cross-Bench DB Pullovers - 105 - 3x6 -- Last set was murder!

No cardio today because I just don't feel like it, dammit! :D

After all that, i added a bit of extra water to my BCAA's and then threw in a couple scoops of Vitargo. For the record, Fruit Punch Vitargo with Watermelon Xtend is AWESOME! This was my first time trying to Waxy Maize Starch post workout. I have to say, I do like it, thus far. I didn't have a PWO energy crash like I usually do, nor do I feel bloated. I did get a little bit of that mild hypoglycemic feeling some people report, but nothing too harsh and it faded off quickly. Now I'm due for my PWO shake as I've waited about 30 minutes after my workout and drinking the Vitargo before I do that. I'm a bit excited about this new protocol. Big props to Mr. S for writing about it.

Total lift time: 50 minutes. (not including warm-up/abs)

So, killer workout with a killer new PWO protocol. I'm looking forward to seeing what it does for me.

On another note, I got the results of my tests back and we've got a big, giant green light to make some jag-sicles as all looks well. We're sorting out the options we have on this, financially, as freezing the swimmers ain't cheap. My urologist said my idea of an ice-cube tray and our chest freezer wasn't gonna cut it, either. :D So, we'll sort it out, soon. Lot's to consider.

At any rate, hope ya'll are having a great Sunday. Hard to believe the weekend is nearly overwith already. The busy one's just fly by way too fast!

Thanks, Chris. I used to go to the coast at least once a year, but I haven't been in the last five years or so. It was a great chance to show Lady Jag some of my favorite spots and reconvene with the ocean, which is pretty much my idea of church.

LOFL! Yeah, bro. It comes in Fruit Punch or Orange (http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/prosup/vit.html). The fruit punch flavor mixes very nicely with the watermelon Xtend BCAA's. I've spent too much time ingesting things that I wouldn't wish my worst enemy to eat, so it's worth a few extra bucks to me to get something that doesn't taste like ass.

I'm going to be crippled tomorrow...

Murderball Crunches - 3x25 w/25# plate

ATG Barbell Squats – W/U 1 - 185 x 8; 240 @ 3x10 - Backed the weight off ten pounds from where I left off prior to my week away from the iron and upped the volume. I almost threw up on the last set, so something must have been working right! :D

Standing Calf Raises - 250#'s - 3x20 - Still not quite ready for Donkey Calves just yet, so I stuck with these again, free standing BB across the shoulders calf raises in the power cage. How's YOUR balance?

SLDL's - 220#'s. - 3x6 - Picked right up where I left off last. Nice.

EZ Curl Bar Military Press – 110#'s - 3x6 - Tried these at Greenie's suggestion as my right shoulder has been bothering me a bit during this particular movement. Kept it a bit light and liked what I felt with these. Worked in a few slow negatives and even a couple of 1/2 reps on top of 6 full reps per set..

Standing Side Lateral Raises - 45 lbs. -3x6 -- Keeping with the 45's on these for awhile. Hella-pump! :D

Rear Delt Row - 75 lbs. 3x6 -- Up 5 lbs. NEW PB!. Hey...I had to get at least one this week! :D

Added a bit of extra water to my BCAA's and then threw in a couple scoops of Vitargo, which I chugged while I was stretching out and putting away the weights. Supershake(tm) to follow, soon. Opted out of doing cardio tonight because the freakin' forest fire smoke is back in the area and playing havoc with my asthma!

Total Lift Time - 50 minutes. (abs/warmup not included)

Happy Hump Day's Eve, folks!

Great workout Jag. For calves I use a standing calf machine. The only problem is that the machine's shoulder pad presses on the seams in my T-shirt and I am left with marks on my shoulders that take days to go away. I don't have good enough balance to try using a BB.

If it weren't for my power cage, I'd have fallen flat on my face with a barbell across my neck a long time ago doing those damn things. LOL! They're damn effective on the calves, though, particularly because they invoke some isolator muscles for balance that you might not use otherwise. I'm about ready to go back to the donkey calves, which REALLY rock! They're a little rough on the lower back sometimes, especially when you start putting 250+ #'s on the Grizzly Belt, but they are the best thing going for calves.

Get your Grizzly Belt, load it up with some weight and give the donkey calves a try, man. I think you'll like 'em.

I've never tried these. So, where do you put your hands? Wide, so forearms are vertical?

I just put them at the ends of the bar, which is about shoulder width for me. I'm not sure how much I really like them, though, as my left shoulder/collar bone has been pretty darn sore the last couple of days. I'll give 'em a go next week again and see how it goes.

All I can say is OUCH! I hope you don't have lots of stairs .

No stairs, thankfully. Good thing, too, because I've been awful sore! First week back after time off is always the roughest.

That's the benchmark I like to use for squats, you know the intensity level is right when you reach that point! Nice.

LOL! Well, that was about a 7.5 on the Puke-o-meter. You can reach an 8 without throwing up at all. An 8.5 is a little bit of puke in the mouth. A 9 as a full mouth full of it and a 10 is spewing like a firehose. :D

Been a rough couple of days with the sore leggies. Of course, they chose this time at work to make us move to a different area which meant I had to spend half the day yesterday crawling around under my desk moving wires and cables, and then all morning today re-stringing them once again at my new desk. I kept making grunting noises every time I had to crouch down and get under the desk, which had my co-workers wondering what the hell was the matter with me. LOL! Back and bi's tonight after work. Left shoulder/collar bone is still a little sore so we'll see how it goes.

Not entirely sure what's causing the shoulder problem, yet. Prime suspect is the EZ bar military presses, since that was the only new factor in the mix last workout. However, I haven't ruled out the possibility of my shrugs giving me a bit of trouble, though.

Last time I moved cubes at work I had 6 machines to rewire around me. Took all day.

The worst of it is that I spent nearly two hours mucking around with my 5-port hub and various LAN cables trying to get a connection going. Finally narrowed it down to my hub dying somewhere between my old desk and my new one, because it worked fine before we moved.

The Workout

I had a KICK ASS workout, tonight!

Preface: 30 second stretch from multiple angles after each segment/exercise. Kept rest times between 70-90 seconds.

Jump rope - High speed for 45 seconds, rest for 15 seconds. I repeat this over and over for five full minutes. Good light warmup.

Murderball Crunches - 3x25 w/25#'s

3x10 - Shoulder Width Grip Pullups - BW only
3x10 - Hammer Grip Sternum Pullups - BW only

High volume still working for me.

Rack Pull Deads - 185x6 warmup/Working Sets - 275x6/295x6/305x6 -- I FINALLY cracked 300 again on these mofo's! Whoo!

Pendlay Rows - 3x6 @ 170 - It's been a REALLY long time since I've done these. After experimenting for quite awhile with the T-Bar rows, I think I'll start working these back in to the mix and alternate them with the heavy DB rows for awhile.

Standing DB Curls (palms up, raise both DB's at same time) - 45 lbs. - Very nice form and pump on these.

Concentration Curls - 45 lbs. - 3x6 - Done seated, elbow braced against thigh and leaning forward to take the back out of the movement. Yowch!

Superset - 95 lbs 3x6
Reverse BB Curls
Forearm Curls

Mixed some Vitargo with the rest of my BCAA's and chugged it down. Whey shake coming soon. Stretched out after I put the weights away.

Total Lift Time - 55 minutes. (abs/warmup not included)

So, strong workout. Felt really great to hit 305 on the rack deads again. I've really struggled with that lift ever since my sinus surgery, so this was a good step in the right direction. Gotta love that! Tomorrow is Friday! About friggin' time! :D

Nice workout jag,
Those suckers really burn don't they!

Thanks, mate. Indeed they do burn, indeed they do!

Is there something in the virtual water here? Geeez. I'm afraid to read another journal

Nahhh. I sometimes get aches and pains my first week back after some time off, so I'm not too worried about it.

jag with shoulder problems too?!

PS: Hope all is well with you bud! Haven't been able to post in here much lately, sorry .

My shoulders have always given me slight bits of trouble off and on over the years. Given that this is my first week back after some time off, though, I'm not overly worried about the pain. Shoulder is feeling much better. Hope you're doing great, bro! I may be headed your way over the Xmas holiday. I'll let ya know!

Glad you had such a great workout, cutie!!

So, I'm not keeping up as usual. I just saw the photos. Beautiful!! I'm glad you guys had such a nice time!

Happy Friday!

Happy Friday to you, too, Hibs! We had an awesome time on the coast. Wish I was down there right now! :(

Great work on those rack deadlifts. I find that doing them from the floor hits my hams best. Maybe its time for you to get some mats so you won't dent your floors.

I actually prefer them from the floor, personally. I've already thought about trying your suggestion many moons ago, but the problem is that my house is built with raised floors so it probably won't help me much. We're going to be house-hunting in the Spring, and good space for my home gym setup is right up there on the list, a concrete pad below the floor being one of the requirements. :)

One day I'm going to have one of those but until then I'm happy you're feeling it. The Hulk is Back .

The back and bi's are hollering at me this morning, so I did something right, anyway!

Boy did I want another hour of sleep this morning! That alarm went off WAY too early! Busy day at work so far, but productive. I'm feeling much better, though, as I discovered an issue with one of my supplements that's been causing me problems. When we went to the coast, I went off most of my supps, including my AAKG (arginine). My breathing suddenly got MUCH better and I hadn't realized how much I'd been impacted. I chalked it up to the smoke in the air at home. But...as soon as I started back on some of the other supps, including the AAKG, my breathing worsened again, which made me suspect the one's I'd addded back in. I hit the web and found some articles by The Mayo Clinic and John Hopkins both citing arginine as aggravting asthma and causing airpassage inflammation in asthma suffers. I cut it out yesterday afternoon and sure enough my breathing was already better by the end of my workout (I was doing AAKG in the mornings and before workouts). This morning it's even better still. Arginine is now off my supp list permanently.

Hope everyone's having a great Friday!

Glad you narrowed the breathing problem down to the supplement - too bad you had to spend money on the stuff to find out!

Just goes to show that a lot of the stuff we muck with in the name of better health can actually give us undesired effects if we're not careful. At least it didn't give me a really severe reaction that could have put me in the emergency room or something.

Hope you enjoy a fabulous fal

LOL! Yeah, for Friday and Saturday I pretty much felt like a truck ran over me and then backed up to make sure it got the lats extra good before it took off. It was a beautiful weekend here, though. Sunny and around 68. I took advantage of the nice weather yesterday and FINALLY got the damn garage cleaned up as it had gotten completely out of hand. Also did a bit of yard work. It's about time to start putting down Fall lawn fertilizer and tree food and spraying spider barriers around the house, I think. Hope ya'll had nice weekends!

The Workout

Today I got a bit of a later start on my workout than I'd hoped for, but it worked out well. Had a really nice lunch with some good friends and enjoyed telling crazy stories over some good food. Then I came home and let things digest a bit before hitting the weight. I decided to work some progressive loading back into my sets, and move the weight up on each set rather than picking a static weight and running all my sets with that. I haven't used this approach in quite awhile and it felt good. It's a nice way to change things up and stimulate some growth. I also left the stretching after each set out of the mix to "confuse" my muscles a little bit as I think they'd adjusted to my doing that. I'll work it back in after a couple of weeks and try to take sporadic breaks away from it here and there to keep it fresh. Here's how today's workout went:

Preface: Kept rest times between 70-90 seconds.

Jump rope - High speed for 45 seconds, rest for 15 seconds. I repeat this over and over for five full minutes. It's a good light warmup and gets the blood pumping. I do this before every workout.

Murderball Crunches w/25 lb. plate - 3x25

Reverse Grip Hammer Style Incline DB Presses (http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showpost.php?p=8533921&postcount=63) - 70#'s (each DB)x6/75#'sx6/80#'sx6 - Lately I've been doing these with a full rotatation on every other rep. On odd reps I'll bring the DB's down in a hammer grip position and then on even reps I'll rotate them all the way around to a palms up position (standard bench press grip position) before rotating them all the way back around on the way up. WOW does that burn!

Flat DB Bench - 100#'s. (each DB)x6/105#'sx6/110#'sx6 - Very nice pump on these, tonight.

Flat DB Flies -55#'s (each DB)x6/60#'sx6/65#'sx6 - Realllly nice stretch on these. I'm going as wide as I can lately and pushing a heavy squeeze at the top of each rep.

Dips -Bodyweight + 85#'s x6/90#'sx6/95#'sx6 - Finally jumped above my 90# plateau on these! New PB!!!!

Close Grip Bench - 210x6/215x6/220x6 - -- Finally back to the CG benches. These were a little rough today. No clue why these have suddenly become harder for me the last several weeks. I'll keep plugging at them.

Cross-Bench DB Pullovers - 95x6/100x6/105x6 -- Brutal!

After that I cranked out 20 minutes on the "epilleptical" and then got my Vitargo and BCAA's while I stretched out and put weights away. Supershake(tm) is in my immediate future.

Total lift time: 58 minutes. (not including warm-up/abs/cardio)

So, killer workout with a new PB in there to boot. I'm glad to work the progressive loading back into the mix as I do find it effective, even if it is a pain in the ass to change out weights between sets.

Phew!

I really like progressive loading, specially for the heavier moves. Don't know why, but it just feels right somehow.

Thanks, bro! I was using 230 for those CG Bench Presses so I'm down a good 10-15 pounds. Still trying to figure out what's driving that, but I suspect it's my slight change in routine a few weeks ago. We'll see.

Well, you are fueled by oatmeal cookies, aren't you? :D I do my dips on parallel bars off of my power cage. I alternate reps between elbows out and head down for a chest focus and elbows in and head up for a tri's focus.

Nice workout mate, specially PB.
I really like progressive loading, specially for the heavier moves. Don't know why, but it just feels right somehow.

Thanks, mate! I got really into static loads because I have adjustable dumbbell handles and it's a pain in the arse to change out the weight between sets. I've altered my set up a bit the last year or so, though, and I'm able to make the changes and swaps a bit quicker, so it was time to bring back the progressive loading. My body responds very well to that approach, too, so maybe it'll help spur a new round of rapid growth.

Those are some serious dips.
Congrats on the PB !

Thanks, Pete! It's been awhile since I've moved the weight up on those, so it felt good. There comes a point where the PB's slow down as you start moving the heavier weights and it takes a bit longer to move past them.

I always wondered how you started mentoring Scout. His enthusiasm is infectious.

Yep. Ran into him on another board and he was pretty serious about wanting to learn how to train right and was asking questions about that, so I referred him over here where he could get some real help from someone other than just me. He's really applied himself and made some amazing progress.

The new Dip Monster.

LOL! That just sounds....wrong. :D

Been a pretty busy Monday at work, but not to the point of being a stress fest. I'd planned on doing some yardio this afternoon, but the rain came in and doused those plans. All I know is that my chest and tri's have some pretty serious DOMs going on this afternoon. For me, when I've got DOMS I'm growing, so this is a good thing. Hope Monday hasn't been too rough on ya'll!

Had a rough start this morning. The power went out about 5am and woke me up when it did. Couldn't get back to sleep, even after laying in bed for an hour. Got up and the power was still out, so Lady Jag and I got ready for work by candle light. Very romantic. Thanks, Flynn! It's our second wedding anniversary but we've been together for much longer than that. But yes, she's a very strong woman. I'd say she was a saint, but one of her favorite things to say is that she thought SHE was a pain in the ass until she met me. :D

The Workout

Waking up at 5am didn't agree with me very much, so I came home and had a little power nap before I got rolling with my workout. That must have helped because I Hulked Out on my workout tonight! Here's how it went:

Preface: 30 second stretch from multiple angles and then 10 second hard flex after each segment/exercise. Kept rest times between 70-90 seconds.

Jump rope - High speed for 45 seconds, rest for 15 seconds. I repeat this over and over for five full minutes. Good light warmup.

Murderball Crunches - 3x25 w/25# plate

ATG Barbell Squats – W/U -185 x 10; 230x10/235x10/240x10 - Right up to the edge of hurling again. LOL! I'm gonna be walking funny tomorrow.

Standing Calf Raises - 250#'s - 3x20 - Didn't feel like changing the weight out for Donkey Calves, so I stuck with these again, free standing BB across the shoulders calf raises in the power cage. How's YOUR balance?

SLDL's - 215x6/220x6/225x6 - Popped up to 225 on the last set for a New PB!

One Arm Shoulder Press – 35#'s - 3x6 - Swapped these in to take the place of my standing DB Military Presses. Kept it light. Really liked the ROM on these a lot.

BB Shrugs - 255x8/260x8/265x8 - Alternated between a close and shoulder-width grip.

Standing Side Lateral Raises - 45 lbs. -3x6 -- Keeping with the 45's on these for awhile. Hella-pump! :D

Rear Delt Row - 80 lbs. 3x6 -- Up 5 lbs. NEW PB!. Very nice!

Added a bit of extra water to my BCAA's and then threw in a couple scoops of Vitargo, which I chugged while I was stretching out and putting away the weights. Supershake(tm) to follow, soon. Got too late for cardio. I'm heartbroken about this. :D

Total Lift Time - 60 minutes. (abs/warmup not included)

Everything was running on all cylinders tonight. Gotta love that. Maybe I should shoot my Novarel and then take a 30 minute nap before every workout! LOL! :D

Happy Hump Day's Eve, ya'll!

Whats up jag, Congrats on the PB's. Hows your chest development coming along with those weighted dips? I just started doing dips the otherday. Il ike them but at my current body weight 235 its like doing weighted dips already. On my last few sets I have to do them assisted.
I finally got BB shrugs up to 315+ the only thing keeping me from going heavier right now is the reccuring threads in the over 35 forum of hernia stories.
Keep it up man your back and traps are looking good.

Things are coming along pretty nicely. I've been happy with the results of my chest routine. I'm currently weighing in at around 205, so those dips got a bit harder for awhile as I put on the extra bit of weight. Same goes for my pullups. I think I'm starting to adjust, though. I got up to around 325 on my shrugs prior to my sinus surgery and had to back the weight off during recovery. I discovered in that process that I was getting better growth from somewhat lighter shrugs using some of the grip variations and static holds I note in my journal, probably due to a truly full ROM, so I haven't gone back to the heavier shrugs even though I can do them. Thanks for the kind words and for stopping by!

LOL! Love the new sig, man. :D I don't really count the jumping rope as cardio. It's enough to get the blood flowing and open up my airways, but not much more than that. If I did it for 20 minutes (which would probably kill me), then maybe it would count for cardio.

Thanks, Baldie! Always a pleasure to have you around these parts. I like the concept for the new ink. Looking forward to seeing the final version. What body part are you planning to put it on? I still have a few ideas for new ink kicking around in my head, but they haven't really gone past the conceptual stage thus far.

Nice job, Hulkster!! Congrats on the SLDL and Rear Delt Rows PB!

Thanks, hottie! A little bit stronger every week. :)

Hey Jag, how much BCAA's are you taking a day? You using powder or capsules?

I'm using Xtend as my BCAA supplement. On lifting days, I use six scoops and start sipping it about 30 minutes prior to my workout. I then sip it throughout my workout and then when I'm finished lifting, I'll refill the water bottle, add two more scoops of Xtend and two scoops of Vitargo and chug that down. On days away from the weights, I've been trying to sip on a 24 oz. bottle with five scoops of Xtend off and on over the course of the whole day. The exception to this is if I'm going to do any pre-breakfast cardio (rare these days :D ), where I'll use five scoops in 24 oz. of water and drink about half of that before I do some cardio to protect the muscle mass and then finish the rest up a bit more slowly afterwards. After much experimentation, this is what I have found to work the best for me in terms of maximizing the benefits of the supplement without wasting it or using more than I need to, since it's a bit pricey.

DOMS is starting to sink in hardcore in my legs this morning. I think by this afternoon I'm going to need a Lil' Rascal scooter.

Happy Hump Day!

Waking up at 5am didn't agree with me very much, so I came home and had a little power nap before I got rolling with my workout. That must have helped because I Hulked Out on my workout tonight! Here's how it went:

- Popped up to 225 on the last set for a New PB!

so I've kept it right here even though I can go heavier.

- Keeping with the 45's on these for awhile. Hella-pump! :D

Just Googled your Xtend but made the mistake at first spelling it with an E. Ooops. Well Little Snake was interested but at my age WTF.

So its Glutamine with BCAAs. Over the years I took BCAAs before workout, Glutamine after and Arginine/Lysine at bedtime. I'm down to Glutamine alone in my quest to shrink (with dignity). So what I'm saying is Xtend looks good to me. Smart suppliment. The NOS craze is just an Arginine thing....correct??

Answereing your question...back below neck line. So far my ink is not visable in a business shirt.

Damn, brother..........keep this up and people are going to start asking you what type of AS you are on. LMAO <j/k>

I use just bulk bcca's.
It's much cheaper that way and I control the carbs I put in there.
I am using the Maize carbs right now. Sure it takes a few extra mins each day to prepare my pre and post WO drinks, but it's well worth it IMO.

At your weight, that's probably going to work well for you, Hib. You can't OD on the stuff, that's for sure. Maybe bump it up to three or four scoops and see if it gives you even better results. It takes a bit of experimentation. If you do a search on the boards for Xtend and the username Beast you'll find some good info on the product and how to get the most out of it.

LMAO! Yeah, I bet Extend is something different altogether. Xtend is basically BCAA's with some B6:

Vitamin B6 (as Pyroxidine HCl): 10mg 500%
L-Leucine: 3.5 g
L-Glutamine: 2.5 g
L-Isoleucine: 1.75 g
L-Valine: 1.75 g
Citrulline Malate: 1 g

So it's got it's emphasis on L-Leucine first and foremost, which makes sense since it's primarily intended to be used pre, during and post workout when your muscles need it the most. Lots of glutamine in there, too. The NO craze is pretty much arginine, I believe. I've never tried any NO products, and I'm damn glad of it since I discovered a week or two ago that arginine is a known aggravator of asthma in people who suffer from it. I dumped the arginine right out of the supp's list and my breathing improved by leaps and bounds. Go figure. One trick I picked up from fire, though, is if you put a couple of those sublingual vegetarian B-12 dots under your tongue about 30 minutes prior to a workout, you'll get a nice energy boost AND a hell of a pump to rival any of those NO products at a fraction of the cost (and with no chance of having your airways close up on you during a workout).

Looking forward to seeing this new ink, man! When are you planning to get it done?

Thanks, Chi! No AS, but I am dutifully taking my Novarel, still as part of my hormone therapy, so I'm sure that's certainly not HURTING my performance in the gym! Heh! The Vitargo is also making a huge difference in my recovery times and growth, I'm finding. There's no carbs in the Xtend BCAA's, by the way. The Vitargo I snagged before finding a different source for WMS, but to be honest, at the rate I'm using it (three times a week) it's really pretty cost efficient to use the Vitargo and holy **** does the fruit punch flavor taste good with the watermelon Xtend! LOL! It's like PWO desert! :D

The Workout

Came home after work. Got the Novarel going. Wrote my workout plan up and then fell asleep in my computer chair for ten minutes. LOFL! Must have done me some good, though. Here's how the routine went:

Preface: 30 second stretch from multiple angles after each segment/exercise. Kept rest times between 70-90 seconds.

Jump rope - High speed for 45 seconds, rest for 15 seconds. I repeat this over and over for five full minutes. Good light warmup.

Murderball Crunches - 3x25 w/25#'s

3x10 - Shoulder Width Grip Pullups - BW only
3x10 - Hammer Grip Sternum Pullups - BW only

High volume still working for me.

Rack Pull Deads - 185x6 warmup/275x6 warmup2/Working Sets - 305x6/310x6/315x6 -- Up a full ten pounds over last week. This puts me back up at pretty much my pre-surgery working weights. I cracked 325 a couple of times, but not consistently. I've really been applying myself to these the last month and a half or so and it's paying off.

DBRows - 3x6 @ 105 - Up 5 lbs. for a NEW PB!!!. I'm gonna feel these tomorrow!

Standing DB Curls (palms up, raise both DB's at same time) - 45 lbs. - Very nice form and pump on these.

Concentration Curls - 45 lbs. - 3x6 - Done seated, elbow braced against thigh and leaning forward to take the back out of the movement. Yowch! Tried to do these with 50 lbs. tonight and got about three and a half reps out and realized it wasn't gonna happen. Almost there, but not quite.

Superset - 95 lbs 3x6
Reverse BB Curls
Forearm Curls

Mixed some Vitargo with the rest of my BCAA's and chugged it down. Whey shake coming soon. Stretched out after I put the weights away. No cardio, as it started to get a bit late on me.

Total Lift Time - 60 minutes. (abs/warmup not included)

So, killer workout. A PB in there, and some HUGE advancement on my deads, which was really the only thing really lagging since I had my sinus surgery. I'm back in top form again and now I can start gunning for some new PB's in all areas again. Nice.

Have a great night, folks!

Impressive Jag, great job on the PBs as well. You'll be shopping for some new clothes soon. I'm really liking that Xtend. I sip it during my workout and then add a couple of scoops to my PWO shake. Good stuff.

Thanks, Mark! I was thinking about that the other day. I already had to invest in some new clothes this summer when I discovered my summer wardrobe didn't fit me anymore. I have a feeling I may wind up with the same problem with much of my Fall and Winter wardrobe. The hidden costs of weight training!

Xtend sounds like something I should try. I am taking BCAA's now, but they're capsules. So in the middle of my workout I have to run to the locker room and down them. Kind of a hassle.

The beauty of a liquid BCAA is that it allows for some very specific micro-nutrient timing. The trouble with the BCAA capsules is that people usually take them far too late. By the time your muscle really needs the BCAA's, they're still dissolving in your stomach (and largely getting scoured away by digestive acids). With liquid BCAA's you can target a specific timeframe (just before, during and especially after a workout) due to the faster absorption rate. Well worth the investment.

Nice workout Jag. Congrats on the Rack Pull PBs.

The bicep workout looks charged as well. I have stopped rotating my hands on the db curls, and I find it really works the bis.

Thanks, Ray! Still not at PB's on the Rack Pulls, but I have a feeling I'll be getting there very soon. Ironically, I much prefer pulling from the floor and find it far easier than rack pulls which is the opposite from most folks. There's just something about that particular position on the rack and my lower back that aren't optimal. Once I get a different house next year, I will hopefully have a set up that will allow me to do deads from the floor once again. And, yes, I've really found that keeping the palms up all the way through the curl movement works the bicep muscle group much more effectively.

Busy day at work around here, but I'm finding a LITTLE bit of time to come in here. :D Today's my wife and I's second wedding anniversary (though we've been together for much longer). We're having a nice, quiet, romantic night at home to celebrate and I have some fun surprises in store for her.

Happy Friday the 13th, by the way. Friday the 13th is always a great day for me. I was born on a Friday the 13th. I turned 13 on a Friday the 13th. I turned 31 on a Friday the 13th. And, though I didn't get married on a Friday the 13th, I did get married on the 13th. 13 is my lucky number. :D

Either that OR lady jag was doing something to distract him. hehe. Happy anniversary.

Just checking in on you. Glad I did, as I see it's your anniversary. Happy Anniversary!

Hope you had a great anniversary Jag!

Happy anniversary to Jag and Mrs. Jag.

Happy anniversary Mr. & Mrs. Jag. You should have many more, each one more wonderful.

Many thanks, everyone! The Missus and I had a really wonderful weekend together. To the point that I even postponed my workout yesterday in favor of doing it tonight instead because I was so wiped out by the time yesterday rolled around. :D Hope all is well with you and yours, my friends! I'll try to catch up with your journals as soon as I get a chance.

Happy anniversary

Hey, thanks, WK! :)

The Workout

Waiting a day to hit the weight turned out to be a very good idea. I had a killer workout and I managed to finish sweating out any remaining alcohol from this weekend in my system. Heh! Here's how it went:

Preface: Kept rest times between 70-90 seconds.

Jump rope - High speed for 45 seconds, rest for 15 seconds. I repeat this over and over for five full minutes. It's a good light warmup and gets the blood pumping. I do this before every workout.

NO ABS THIS WEEK! WOOHOO!

Reverse Grip Hammer Style Incline DB Presses (http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showpost.php?p=8533921&postcount=63) - 75#'s (each DB)x6/80#'sx6/85#'sx6 - Lately I've been doing these with a full rotatation on every other rep. On odd reps I'll bring the DB's down in a hammer grip position and then on even reps I'll rotate them all the way around to a palms up position (standard bench press grip position) before rotating them all the way back around on the way up. WOW does that burn! Moved things up 5 lbs which snagged me a NEW PB!!!, too! MAN was that last set a bitch!

Flat DB Bench - 100#'s. (each DB)x6/105#'sx6/110#'sx6 - Very nice pump on these, tonight. Not quite ready to jump to the 115's, but it won't be long.

Flat DB Flies -55#'s (each DB)x6/60#'sx6/65#'sx6 - Realllly nice stretch on these. I'm going as wide as I can lately and pushing a heavy squeeze at the top of each rep.

Dips -Bodyweight + 85#'s x6/90#'sx6/95#'sx6 - Kept the extra weight I added last week, which is great. I hate hitting PB's and then slipping right back off of them the following week, so keeping that 95#'s in play tonight made me feel good.

Reverse Grip Bench - 200x6/205x6/210x6 - -- Up 5 lbs. NEW PB!!!

Cross-Bench DB Pullovers - 95x6/100x6/105x6 -- Brutal!

After that I got my Vitargo and BCAA's while I stretched out and put weights away. I had consulted my Magic 8 Ball earlier in the evening, asking it "Magic 8 Ball, am I going to do cardio tonight?". It's answer was "Outlook not so good.". Wouldn't ya know that Magic 8 Ball turned out to be right? :D Supershake(tm) is in my immediate future.

Total lift time: 54 minutes. (not including warm-up/abs)

So, a strong workout. Some new PB's and a definite feeling that I hit the intended muscle groups hard and heavy. A also didn't drop any weights on my face. Doesn't get any better than that. Hope Monday wasn't too bad to ya'll!

The Workout

Got a little bit later start on my lifts tonight than I would have liked, but it went really well:

Preface: Brought back the 30 second stretch from multiple angles and then 10 second hard flex after each segment/exercise this week. I'll work it in and out on random weeks. Kept rest times between 70-90 seconds.

Jump rope - High speed for 45 seconds, rest for 15 seconds. I repeat this over and over for five full minutes. Good light warmup.

NO ABS THIS WEEK

ATG Barbell Squats – W/U -185 x 10; 235x10/240x10/245x10 - I seem to have found my sweet spot on these, as I've walked right up to the edge of hurling on these three weeks running, now. LOL! I also didn't think I was going to get that very last rep on the last set. Barely got that one back to the rack! Whew! Up 5 lbs. over last week.

Standing Calf Raises - 245#'s - 3x20 - Didn't feel like changing the weight out for Donkey Calves, so I stuck with these again, free standing BB across the shoulders calf raises in the power cage. How's YOUR balance?

SLDL's - 220x6/225x6/230x6 - Popped up to 230 on the last set for a New PB!

One Arm Shoulder Press – 35x6/40x6/45x6 - Worked the progressive loading into these tonight. Wound up 10 lbs. over last week. New PB!

BB Shrugs - 255x8/260x8/265x8 - Alternated between a close and shoulder-width grip.

Standing Side Lateral Raises - 45 lbs. -3x6 -- Keeping with the 45's on these for awhile. Hella-pump!

Rear Delt Row - 85 lbs.

So, strong workout. Really felt like I hit everything extra hard and picked up a hat trick of PB's to boot! Doesn't get much better! Hope Hump Day is treating you all well! On Hump Day, EVERYONE should get humped!

HAVE A FABULOUS THURSDAY!

Thanks, Barb! It takes a little while to get used to the freestanding BB calf raises, but I'm really liking the way they bring all the isolator muscles into the exercise. The cage will keep you from falling over and it's saved me quite a few times, but I prefer to keep all the weight centered as much as possible. I originally started doing them because I was too lazy to pull the weight off the bar and set up my Grizzly Belt for donkey calf raises. Now I mix the two, but lately I've been sticking with these...because I'm too lazy to change the weight. LOL!

Here's hoping you puke your guts out the next time you do abs. :0

LOL! This kind of talk from a pastor? What's the world coming to? :D

That's some serious poundage on the sldls, buddy. Combined with the squats, you must be stimulating some serious hammy growth.

And yet again, more PBs! Is there anything that can stop the Jag???

I'm seeing some fairly decent growth in my legs these days, yes. I'm glad about that because I've always felt my legs had some catching up to do, anyway. And, yes, there are things that can stop me but they're all rather debaucherous and probably best left not discussed with a pastor. LOL!

LOL! I'm moving up fast on the weight on those. Can't wait til I pop 100 on those bad boys!

I'm seeing red!

Has there ever been a week when you didn't hit a PB, Jag? Wow!

Oh, sure there has been. Plenty of 'em. Especially when I was recouping from my sinus surgery. I'm just now getting back into PB territory again, four months after my surgery, actually.

Good stuff Jag!

Have you tried behind-the-back bb shrugs?

Thanks, Chris! I've tried the behind-the-back bb shrugs and didn't like them for a few reasons. The biggest was that they put a lot of stress on my shoulders, which left them fairly sore. The others were that my ass got in the way and that I couldn't use straps with them and couldn't go very heavy with them as a result due to my slight carpal tunnel syndrome. So, I stick with the front shrugs, mostly. They still seem to be doing the trick.

Jagster, awesome job on the PB's.

Thanks, Cam! I really appreciate the support!

Gotta luv all those pb's! Great job, as always, Jag!

Just trying to keep you with YOU, T3!

Had an absolutely insane day yesterday. Negotiations all day long and having to deal with a person on our negotiation team not pulling their weight and undermining what we were trying to do so that soaked up even more of my time getting that situation straightened out. Then Lady Jag and I made a trek to a nearby town after work to look at Pomeranian puppies. We weren't real sure if we were ready for another one, having lost our 13 year old pup a few months ago, but I felt it was time to at least push the Missus to look at them, if anything to help the healing process along. Besides, the cat has been super lonely and lacking companionship when we're not around. So, we had made plans to hit a couple of different places that had them. We got to the first house and well, let me introduce someone:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/jaguarr/Puppy/IMG_1179.jpg
Hi! I'm the newest member of the Jaguarr clan! I don't have a name yet, but I'm helping my new Mom & Dad pick one out just as fast as I can! The people who live where I was born called me India, but I don't know if I like that name or not. Mom's thinking of calling me Luna Negra, or Luna for short. We'll see. She's been through about 50 different names since I came home last night so that might change, too. I'll keep helping try out names, though, but in the meantime I'm gonna play and eat and harass my big brother the cat who is taking awhile to get used to me. I know he acts tough, but pretty soon I'll have him wrapped around my little paw. I'll also keep making it really hard for my Dad to take pictures of me by not holding still for very long. Anyway, it's nice to meet all of you and I'll be seeing more of you, I'm sure!

Ain't she a cutie? :) We're keeping an eye out for a little male pup from a different breeding tree to be a companion for her and maybe eventually let them have a litter or two. Hopefully we'll find one in the next couple of months so they can really grow up together.

Tonight is back/bi's after work. Have a great Friday, folks!

Ended up working fairly late tonight wrapping up a contract and then headed into the gym. My nutrition today hasn't been very good due to work getting in the way, and I've felt a little bit funky the last couple days anyway so I wasn't sure what I was gonna get. I wound up cranking my usual pullups (Shoulder-Width Grip @ 3x10 and Hammer Grip @ 3x10) and did my warm up sets on my deads. As soon as I got to the third rep on my working weight with the deads, though, my blood sugar tanked into the basement all of a sudden. I put the weight back down and called it a night. I was gonna get hurt if I kept pushing it in that condition. I'll pick up again on Sunday and start fresh.

Thanks, gang! Been a busy weekend. We've had a lot to do to get the yard ready for the late fall and winter, so I spent the better part of yesterday working on those things. Also did a bit more outside this morning before grabbing some lunch and then hitting the weight after I digested.

The puppy is doing great. She's settled right in and is the queen of the castle at this point, much to the cat's chagrin. We've kicked several names around for her but I think we've pretty much settled on Kali, one of my wife's favorite mythological figures. It's fitting too since, like her namesake, this pup sort of reprents death and rebirth in many ways since the loss of our old dog a few months ago. We're still keeping our eyes open for a little male pup with an eye on naming him Shiva. If you know anything of Indian mythology, this will make a great deal of sense to you. :)

The Workout

I was still feeling a little tired today, which makes me wonder if I haven't been maybe fighting a bug of some sort following my failed attempt at a workout on Friday. I decided to deload just a little bit and back the weight off and up the reps a little, so I moved to a 3x8 config this week. Went fairly well:

Preface: Kept rest times between 70-90 seconds.

Jump rope - High speed for 45 seconds, rest for 15 seconds. I repeat this over and over for five full minutes. It's a good light warmup and gets the blood pumping. I do this before every workout.

Murderball Crunches - 3x25 w/25 lb. plate.

Reverse Grip Hammer Style Incline DB Presses (http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showpost.php?p=8533921&postcount=63) - 65#'s (each DB)x8/70#'sx8/75#'sX8 - Lately I've been doing these with a full rotatation on every other rep. On odd reps I'll bring the DB's down in a hammer grip position and then on even reps I'll rotate them all the way around to a palms up position (standard bench press grip position) before rotating them all the way back around on the way up. WOW does that burn!

Flat DB Bench - 95#'s. (each DB)x8/100#'sx8/100#'sx8 - Had intended to move up to 105 on the last set but it wasn't gonna happen so I left it at 100.

Flat DB Flies -55#'s (each DB)x8/60#'sx8/65#'sx8 - Realllly nice stretch on these. I'm going as wide as I can lately and pushing a heavy squeeze at the top of each rep.

Dips -Bodyweight + 85#'s x6/90#'sx6/95#'sx6 - So, I THOUGHT I had backed the weight off to 80 on the first set with the intention of working 80/85/90, but I miscalculated what I put on the Grizzly Belt and wound up working at my usual working weight only with more reps. No WONDER I pretty much hit failure on that last set!

Close Grip Bench - 200 - 3x8 - I'd intended to progressively load at 5 lb. increments on these starting at 200, but wound up sticking with that weight. After I realized what I'd done with the dips, I figured out why 200 seemed so heavy on these. Yay, pre-exhaustion! LOL!

Cross-Bench DB Pullovers - 85x8/90x8/95x8 -- Phew!

15 minutes of cardio on the "epileptical" after that.

After that I got my Vitargo and BCAA's while I stretched out and put weights away.

Total lift time: 60 minutes. (not including warm-up/abs/cardio)

So, a really, really solid workout. The extra volume felt really good and going a little bit lighter was nicer on the joints, though I probably should have deloaded a little bit more on the weight in some places.

Now to go drain the sprinkler system out for the winter and get ready for dinner with the folks. They're coming over to meet their new "grandaughter". LOL! :D

Yeah, it's been entertaining, that's for sure! LOL! She's completely unafraid of him, even though he's about 10 times her size. I will say, he's been fairly gentle with her all in all. He's bapped her a few times, but he's obviously pulling his punches and not hitting her full force. Even when she's snuck up on him and bit his tail. LOL!

Oh, goooood! When I come to NYC you can workout with me and I won't even have to change out the weight for you. :)

Thanks, bro! Recovering from that race, yesterday!?

I think it's time for a little relaxing and then some bedtime. The folks came over and met their "grandaughter" tonight and sprung for some mexican food. Good thing I'm still bulking! :D

Animals are hilarious to watch when they're getting to know each other. I know our cats put the German Shepherd pup in her place when she was little. Now that she's huge, she still won't go near them.... the other neighborhood cats (and squirls) are a different story though.

We've got a five month old kitten that has some "mental" problems. He's become convinced (at least I think) that his tail isn't really a part of him... at first he used to chase it and when he caught it, he'd bite it really hard, and then get mad at it when it HURT! Now, he just sucks on the end of it, like a little kid sucking it's thumb. Heaven forbid anyone try to take it out of his mouth! LOL!

Watch out for that Mexican food in your bulking plan... you'll bulk more than you want!

You'd probably kill me, youngblood! I'm an old guy! I thought I was going to make it that way for Xmas, but it's looking like we're going to bring my in-laws down for the holidays instead. They've never visited my wife and I, so it should be fun. We're pushing to maybe move them here next year some time as NYC is just too darn expensive for them, so this would be a way for them to see the town before we start pushing them too hard about that.

Solid workout buddy.

Good eye, mate. I did forget to change that, indeed. The fun of cut and paste following a workout! :D

Hey Jag, Awsome WO !

Thanks, Mike! Things starting to cool off your way? What part of Montana are you in? I'm somewhat familiar with the state.

LOL! Thanks, Hibby! She's been a lot of fun to have around. It's a handful having a puppy around, though. So far she's started learning her name and has been asking to go outside when she has to poo. We're still working on getting her to go outside all the time to piddle. But, she hasn't piddled in her kennel at all since the first night and has only had little accidents a few times since the first day. I'm pretty amazed at just how smart she is.

Strong Workout Jaggo !

Oh...........nice pup too.

Thanks, bro! I'm feeling it this morning, that's for sure. It was nice to give the tendons a bit of a break and go a little lighter yesterday, too.

HAPPY MONDAY BIG CAT!!
Hope you and the MRS enjoyed a great weekend!

A happy Monday to you, too, Bionic Woman! :D

Great looking workout Jag. Hope you're not feeing as tired today

Thanks, Hoos! I think the main problem has been not getting enough sleep. I'm a bit of a night owl anyway, and so is the missus, and we have a tendency to stay up too late. Hopefully it will get a little better after the daylight savings change next week.

Hi, devil1. I guess it depends on your definition of "intense". I list all my weights, sets, reps and assorted details in each of my workout logs that I post here, including rest times and anything unique I might be doing with any given lift. I try to push myself as hard as I can on any given day. If you have questions, just let me know.

Happy Monday, folks!

LOL! Yeah, my ocelot cat likes to lick, chew and suck on the end of his tail, too. He's never chewed the hair off of it, though, but I've half expected him to the way he goes after it. He's had a little toy weasel that resembles his tail since he was a kitten so I guess that's how he got started. And I'll definitely try to keep the mexican food to a minimum. LOL! :D

OK, lets cruise by the Den. Hmmm. Lady Jag still there. Understanding lady. Oh I see, a cute little addition and smaller than one of your tats. Like the pic of pup...is that a fresh kill on the floor behind her or a toy? Workouts seem to be going OK and loads of visitors popping into your Journal. Must agree for most part these/your Journals are about bodybuilding which the Misc. section has all but abandoned.

Have a great fall season. Stay well and post more PBs.

HAPPY TUESDAY you DIPPIN' MACHINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks, Barb! Hope your Tuesday rocks your socks off!

Busy morning thus far, but things are going pretty well. The puppy has pretty much taken over the whole house and her and the cat are getting along pretty well now. He still has to put her in her place once in awhile, but otherwise they've been having fun chasing each other all over the house. She's been a little ray of sunshine to have in our home. Today is her first day spending time in her crate while we are at work. My wife and I are taking turns checking on her during our lunch hour this week. She's done very well with the crate thus far, so I hope that continues.

Legs & shoulders later tonight after work. Should be puke-tastic. Hope ya'[ll are having a great day!
