I didn't know that about Rebecca Romijin. When I was watching this last movie, I talked to little B about how much of a pain it had to be to have the makeup applied. I don't blame her! :)

Very nice job on the workout! Congrats on the PB on SLDLs. Those are one of my favorite exercises.

Happy Thursday!

Thanks, Hibby. I'm really liking the SLDL's. I've had to be VERY cautious about moving up too much in weight on them because they can aggravate my lower back if I get too carried away. So, I've been edging up slowly on the working weight with them. As for Rebecca Romijin, she's pretty hot...with or without the blue makeup. :D

Nice recovery workout.

Thanks, Joel! I'm feeling it in the legs this morning, so something went right with that workout! :)

The neck continues to feel a bit better. Still a bit of a low grade headache from it, but not it subsides a little every day. I tried to call my chiro to get in today as I think my neck could put up with the abuse of being adjusted finally and it turns out he's out of the office until Monday so it will have to wait. It's popping back into proper place on it's own enough that I think I'll be able to make it.

Beautiful, sunny day here in the Jungle! Hope ya'll have a great one!

I am growing suspicious… is it possible that he “enjoys” pain a little TOO much? Was it “really” an accident, is the surgery really “necessary”, and is it true that he frequents the Dentist and gets fillings in teeth “without” cavities??? Hmmmm…… :-)

Yesterday's Workout

Man oh man did I NOT feel like lifting yesterday after work. I had a headache a good portion of the day and it was busy at work so I didn't get much of a chance to hang out here in the forums. Hopefully I'll get into the chiro on Monday and get myself straightened out again. My neck is still pretty jacked after last weekend's freak accident GSC was referring to. I also went for my annual physical yesterday. All went pretty well. Doc says I'm doing pretty well overall. Had a scare with my blood pressure, though. The nurse took it when I got there and it was 160/110!!!! My doc looked at it and was freaking out. She asked the nurse if she used the big cuff on me and the nurse said "Yes" but it was written all over her face that she hadn't, so my doc went and got the big cuff and took it again herself, on both arms. Everything was much more normal when she used the right side cuff (I had it checked the day before at work and it was 128/80, and yesterday's numbers were more in line with that). She reemed the nurse a new one while I was sitting there, going "You HAVE to use the big cuff on these bodybuilder guys or you'll get a wrong reading! Look at his arms, for crying out loud!" Have I mentioned that I love going to my doc's office? LOL! At any rate, everything else was looking pretty good. They drew bloodwork to check all my hormone levels and then we're going to start talking about HRT options. They also talked me into getting my tetanus booster while I was there, which made working my left shoulder during my workout a little interesting. Anyway, it was a pretty good workout, yesterday. Here's how it went:

Preface: 30 second stretch from multiple angles after each segment/exercise. Kept rest times between 60-75 seconds. Threw some slow negatives in on every set as well, just for fun. :D

Jump rope - High speed for 45 seconds, rest for 15 seconds. I repeat this over and over for five full minutes. Good light warmup.

Ab's Superset
Weighted Crunches w/35 lb. plate - 3x10
Roman Chairs - 3x10

3x6 - Shoulder Width Grip Pullups - BW+25 lbs. on Grizzly Belt
3x8 - Lat Flies - BW+25 lbs. on Grizzly Belt
3x6 - Hammer Grip Sternum Pullups - BW+25 lbs. on Grizzly Belt

Took awhile to get into the swing of these, today, but by the end of the second set I was starting to feel more like working out. The lat flies in particular felt great today, so I tacked a couple extra reps to each set.

Rack Deads- Warm-Up - 185x8 /Warm-Up 2 - 275x6/ Working Sets - 300 -3x6/ - Kept things a little bit lighter on my working sets than normal as my neck was giving me a little bit of trouble doing these. Overall, though, they felt really good.

T-Bar Rows - 3x6 @ 180 - Up 5 lbs. New PB!.

Close Grip Bench- 220 lbs. - 3x6- Up 5 lbs. for a New PB!.

Lying Cross-Bench DB Pullovers - 100 - 3x6 - Very nice burn on these.

Dips - 90 lbs. - 3x6 - Back up to two plates on these. Also ran a set of 10 with no weight afterwards.

PWO Supershake(tm) and stretched out after putting the weights away. No cardio yesterday.

Total Lift Time - 61 minutes

Also got up and got some BCAA's in me this morning and then cranked out 25 minutes of pre-breakfast cardio on the "epileptical". Nice. Going to relax a bit today and get a few things done around the house before going to some friends for a BBQ tonight. Should be fun. Hope ya'll have a great Saturday!

LMAO! Yeah, I'm gettin' STRONG! :D

Alright, I'm way overdue with documenting my progress, so here goes.

-----------------------6/22/2005 -------------------------6/10/2006
Weight:.................172 lbs...................................199 lbs.
Left Bicep..............15.25"...................................17"
Right Bicep.............16"......................................17"
Chest....................42.5"....................................46.5
Left Thigh..............23.5".....................................25"
Right Thigh............23.5".....................................25"
Neck....................16.5".....................................17"
Left Calf...............????........................... ............16"
Right Calf.............????............................. ..........17"
Waist..................35".........................................36"
Hips...................????....................... ..................41"

I've been pretty happy with my progress over the past year. I've evened up quite a bit on both sides, where my left side was lagging quite a bit this time last year. I've also added a good deal of mass despite fighting the low testosterone issue, but I haven't dropped much if any bodyfat while doing it, though I have managed to keep from ADDING a ton of bodyfat while slowly bulking so no complaints there. The icing on the cake for me is that I've really added some great strength this past year and I'm a far cry from where I was when I quit smoking and started working out in earnest on March 30, 2005.

All in all, it's been a pretty productive year of lifting for me. I stil have plenty far to go and plenty more to learn and the first year of my new journey in health has been a good one. I'm even considering running a cut for the very first time as well, as I'm pretty happy with the mass I've added. My thanks to all of you for sharing your comraderie, expertise, knowledge and encouragement. It's meant a great deal and I hope that I have returned the favor. I look forward to many more years of laughing and lifting with all of you.

Below I'll be posting some comparison pics for you all to ravage and critique. Be gentle. I'm fragile. :D

Cheers,
jag

Excellent! A gain of 27 lbs and it doesn't look like you have added too much bf in the process. I'm not sure what your goals are, both short and long term, but you could bring out some great definition with a cut and really show off the spoils of your hard work. Great progress, man.

Hey, thanks, man. I'm relatively happy with my progress over the past year. It's been VERY challenging to clean bulk and keep the BF% in check while I do it. It's made for a slower adding of muscle than I might have gotten otherwise, and I've managed to do it despite the low test issues which has prevented me from adding muscle as fast as I used to. As for the thong, I still have it but Lady Jag's the only one that see's it. LOL! :D

Thanks, Gunn. For the past year, I've been pushing to gain mass with as little BF% increase as possible. I think I've done well with that goal, particularly while fighting hormone imbalances and such. I think I'm going to step back and reassess during my downtime from my sinus surgery and while I'm getting into an HRT program. I'm sort of torn between cutting down and getting shredded and continuing to add more muscle for awhile longer. I would certainly LOOK bigger if I cut down a bit and got my waistline more in check to reflect the size my back and lats have put on in the past year (it's hard to see it from the pics and also because my waist has grown a little bit along with them). But, I'm also still wanting to put a little bit more size on all over as well. I'm leaning towards doing a cut to get the BF% down to maybe 12% or so, which is only maybe 5% or so, roughly, and then start a clean bulk again. I have a feeling the HRT is going to alter the way I add muscle/lose fat, also, so it may take some fiddling to figure out what works best for me once I'm on it and it's had a chance to kick in. I do know that it would be nice to take a bit of a break from consuming so many calories every day. I actually get TIRED of eating! At any rate, thanks for the words of encouragement. I really appreciate it.

Hahaha! I don't know if I'm a Beast or not, compared to some of the REAL beasts lurking around here like fitty, timber, Nuc, Most Muscular, Mr. S and SO many others. Compared with where I was at a year ago, though, I might be a bit of a beast in comparison to the old me. And really, that's who I'm competing against when it comes down to it is myself. Sorry about the emotional scarring you got from my first pic with the thong. They make good medications to help people with that, now. :D

Nice size, Jag. I see it especially in the front poses. Your quads leg like they have gotten a lot bigger.

Thanks, dbflgirl! I've definitely put on size. Would I have liked more? Yeah, but I'll take what I can get all things considered. My clothes definitely tell the tale. I had to get new shirts because most of my old one's don't fit me right anymore, and my skivvies have become rather tight in the legs, so there's not question I'm growing. Now to decide whether to cut or keep bulking. Still not sure. I'll wait until I'm on pain med's from sinus surgery to make a decision. :D

Had a nice time at the BBQ some friends of ours threw last night. It was a large portion of the main gang of folks we hang out with and they took the opportunity to wish me an early birthday and help me celebrate. I made out like a bandit with a few very nice bottles of wine that I plan to enjoy while I'm off for a few weeks after I get my schnoz bored out. :D Today is chest/bi's day and then I'm taking Lady Jag to the circus tonight! Should be fun! Enjoy your Sunday, folks!

Holy **** jag, you added a ton of mass EVERYWHERE.

Your wheels are HUGEEEEEEEEE. And 4" added to your chest .

And your measurements speak for themselves, as your arms are now EQUAL, from a .75" deficit on the left! That's amazing **** bro, you've GOT to tell me how you managed that. My left arm has always been lagging as well.

27 lbs and only 1 inch added to your waist. If that wasn't a lean bulk I don't know what is.

Awesome tattoos!

Wow, Jag! Looking awesome! Have you ever thought about competing?

Awwww, thanks, T3. You flatter me. I'm a far cry from having enough mass for competition, but I appreciate the sentiment. I honestly don't think I have the tenacity to stick to the diet it takes to get in competition shape, and my hat is off to anyone and everyone that's able to do it. Maybe I'll change my mind down the road after I've added some more muscle, but right now I'm just happy finding out how my body operates and how I can use exercise and diet to alter it; I'm like one big giant science experiment. :D

You are eloquent as always and bring a smile to my face, my friend. I have to say, when I evaluate my bodybuilding IQ as it stands today in comparison with what I knew a year ago, it is like night and day. I have learned so much for so many on these boards, (fitty, Leon, Baldie, Nuc, Chris, Mr. S, fire, Hola Bola, Diamond Delts, ATrainer and many, many more), and continue to do so. The thing I'm really enjoying the most this past six months or so is taking what I have learned and applying it to myself and finding out what works and what does not. There are so many here that inspire me to keep going, and if I'm able to return that favor to them or anyone else then I can only smile about that. Thanks again for the kind words and words of encouragement. They're very much appreciated.

Hey, thanks, youngblood! I've definitely evened out quite a bit over the last year. My left lat doesn't quite want to pop out like the right one, yet, and the left calf is lagging a bit, but other than that I've really brought up my symmetry which was another of my goals this past year. I still have more work to do on that front, but it's getting better. Sticking to my lifts and being conscious of form has helped a great deal. I was also throwing in some extra concentration curls and dumbbell rows for the left side on leg day for awhile, and that seemed to help as well. I don't think I could have added much more mass on a clean bulk like I have managed to, so no complaints there. I appreciate your encouragement and enthusiasm, man.

The Workout

Was moving a little slow this morning. I think I may have had five too many beers at the BBQ last night. I can't tell if the headache I had was from that or from my neck still being so far out of whack. Either way, it subsided this afternoon so I hit the weights. Felt pretty good, too. I moved back to my favorite config of 6x3's. Here's how it went:

Preface: 30 second stretch from multiple angles after each segment/exercise followed by a tight flex/squeeze on the appropriate muscle group to really flush the blood in there. Kept rest times between 45-60 seconds.

Jump rope - High speed for 45 seconds, rest for 15 seconds. I repeat this over and over for five full minutes. It's a good light warmup and gets the blood pumping. I do this before every workout.

Ab's Superset
NO ABS THIS WEEK

Reverse Grip Hammer Style Incline DB Presses (http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showpost.php?p=8533921&postcount=63) - 80 lbs. (each DB) 6x3- Very nice burn to these, tonight. Up 5 lbs. for a New PB!

Flat DB Bench - 110 lbs. (each DB) 6x3 - Back up to the 110's on these, today! Nice!

Incline DB Flies -70 lbs. (each DB) 6x3 - Very nice stretch on these, today.

Dips -Bodyweight + 90 lbs. -6x3 - Kept a chest focus on these.

Weighted Chin-Ups - BW + 25 lbs. On Grizzly Belt 6x4 - Swapped these in to take a break from the BB curls. I really like the way these hit the bi's.

Standing DB Hammer Curls - 55 lbs. (each DB) - 6x3 - Did these standing for a change of pace.

Reverse Grip BB Curls - 85 lbs. - Another changeup on the bi's routine. I liked adding these back in.

PWO stretch and cool down/stretch and then PWO Supershake(tm). No cardio tonight.

Total lift time: 65 minutes.

So, solid workout and I even managed to eek out a PB. Now I need to go get cleaned up and ready to go to the circus! :)

Happy Sunday, folks!

just say no to thongs (on guys)... but he progress is top notch! well done. those double jags really do have a 3D look. you may bulk more while taking a rest, so that could be a great time to test out that cutting plan. will you be starting the HRT while down from the surgery or after?

from the guys i have talked to about HRT, if done right, it can make a huge difference. my uncle tried a program with no results, then another with great results, considering he doesn't work out and is way overweight. also, my friend's father is on year number 2 of T & GH replacement at 50+ years old and he "used to" work out. he said that without even getting back to the gym yet (but he might) his muscle has turned rock hard under the fat, which has come WAY down, along with his LDL, BP, etc... he said he feels like he is 20 now.

ps - there is something about the blacked out face that makes the shots look like porn from the 1920's... or maybe it's the thong? either way, i am going to have nightmares now, thanks. and you know i need sleep damn it.

Sorry about your mental anguish. Like my dad used to say to me when I was a kid, including when I stepped on a rusty nail that went completely through my foot, "Walk it off!". :D

Thanks for the kind words, man. Much appreciated. I'm not sure if I'll be starting the HRT before or after the surgery. Still shopping for a good local endo but hope to have some word on that, soon. I'm more interested in the mental/attitude, overall personal drive and libido issues being resolved, but if it makes it a little easier to drop some of my BF in the process, you won't hear me complaining.

We have several of these places in town, but I'd never taken Lady Jag to one of them. They put on quite a show while they're cooking, which is a lot of fun to watch. My favorite part is where the chef flips shrimp into the mouths of everyone at the table. I caught mine, but everyone else at the table got a shrimp in the face. I guess it helps to have a big mouth. :D The circus was a lot of fun as well. It was a smaller circus, but they had some really great performers and some GREAT elephants that put on a fantastic show. The tickets were cheap and it was a fun, kind of romantic thing to do for a date with my wife. We had an absolute blast and seeing the smile on her face was priceless.

Haircut and a trip to the chiropractor today after work! I suspect a restful evening with some ice on my neck is in store for me this evening.

Well, the results of my bloodwork came back today. Just got off the phone with my Doc. Total Testosterone is at 174 (it was 308 last time)!! WTF?! Free Test percentage is a bit on the high side as is my liver functions. Everything else looks fairly normal. My doc is freaking out because she thinks that "all this stuff you take for weightlifting is screwing up your testosterone levels". Umm...multi-vitamin, whey, casein, liver tabs, fish oil caps and extra vitamin C are overriding my test levels? I don't think so. The only thing I've run that could impact my system like that was the three week cycle of SAN Attitude that I did. At any rate, she's recognized she's in over her head and we are in agreement that we need to find a good endo for me who's experienced in men's health and hormone issues and has some sports medicine knowledge. I don't trust her to find me a good one, though (her last two recommendations have sucked rotten eggs), so I've got my feelers out to a couple of folks who know a lot about the doctors in this town to see who's the right person I should be seeing.

At any rate, no wonder I've been feeling so sluggish and unmotivated with a pretty apathetic attitude overall. Geeez! At least we know where my numbers are at. I have to say, this is kind of discouraging, though.

Jag, I am pretty sure you have the power hooks. I am thinking Joel has them or maybe he just recommended them. Anyway I have a question about them. I find that I am having a hard time with them, meaning I can't lift as much weight with them. I think it is all in my head but it stems from having to pay so much attention so I don't get them rehooked on the bb when I am doing my reps. I think having them on the Db at all times just takes some getting used to as well.

I have an idea but I don't want to screw anything up. I am wondering if I can cut the bar that the wrap goes around from each side. Then I can jsut pick up the db and when I am done I put it back in place. The hooks would stay on the bb at all times. What do you think about this.

Joel if you see this and you have them I would like your opinon as well.

Thanks guys.

Hi, dapper. You might ping the guys at Country Power (the manufacturers of the Powerhooks) and ask them about this. I know they've had people using the hooks in that fashion, but I don't know the specifics. I'm sure they'd be happy to help you out with this one. I had amazing response from Leo Jr. at Country Power when I had questions and some problems with my first set of hooks and found them to be extremely responsive and very customer service oriented. If you need their email addy, let me know and I'll be happy to PM it to you.

Went and got my neck and back popped back into place, finally. WOW was my neck in bad shape. It sounded like a gunshot going off in my head when my chiro got it put back into place. The ribs were pretty out of whack as well, which is highly unusual for me. At any rate, all is where it should be again and I'm feeling 100% better afterwards. I definitely had jammed my neck during the post-driver incident. Nice to be back in alignment again. Time for some ice.

It could very well be coming off the SAN. I've used 3 bottles and have noticed similar feeling after stopping. I've never had my test levels checked, as I was in a kinda "experimental" mode trying a few different supps. Oddly enough, my libido increased the first week, but then went south pretty quickly. Let's just say that my performance in the gym was excellent, but my desire to perform anywhere else wasn't there lol.

How long ago did you stop taking it? I bounced back after a few days of stopping each time.

It's been over 7 weeks since I finished the three week cycle of that stuff. I'm kinda ruling it out of the equation at this point. What's funny is that, when that stuff kicked in, EVERYTHING got rockin' including my attitude and my libido. I'm suspecting hypogonadism to be the culprit. We'll see what a good endo has to say, I guess.

I've thought about adding in an extra set or two of (insert exercise here) for my lacking bodyparts as well. Once I get my hands on a tape measure and log my progress for a few more months, i'll decide what to do.

And excellent workout jag! I'm off to the gym, hopefully I'll get some back lifts recorded for ya'll to critique!

Sorry about your mental anguish. Like my dad used to say to me when I was a kid, including when I stepped on a rusty nail that went completely through my foot, "Walk it off!". :D
...Still shopping for a good local endo but hope to have some word on that, soon. I'm more interested in the mental/attitude, overall personal drive and libido issues being resolved, but if it makes it a little easier to drop some of my BF in the process, you won't hear me complaining. jag

i did that when i was a kid too, it really sucked when it came out the top of my tennis shoe... but not half as bad as when i had to lift my foot and rip it back out!

there are a few (long & boring tech) reasons that your free test could have seemed high when your total test was off the scale low at 174. were the free test results given to you in the format of: testosterone, % free "with a number that appeared high" followed by... testosterone, free "with a number that appeared to be in the low mid range" shown as pg/ml? proper blood work will most likely show that your test & free test are both low. how did your GH and IGF-1 come out? and your PSA? I will PM you.

Killer workout tonight. I'm gonna be feeling it tomorrow. Here's how it went:

Preface: 30 second stretch from multiple angles after each segment/exercise. Kept rest times between 60-75 seconds. Also tried to slow negatives on every rep of most exercises when I was able to.

Jump rope - High speed for 45 seconds, rest for 15 seconds. I repeat this over and over for five full minutes. Good light warmup.

Ab's Superset - 3x10
NO ABS TODAY

ATG Barbell Squats – W/U 1 - 135 x 8; W/U 2 - 205 x 8; 250 @ 6x4 - Kept the full on ATG squats in the mix as my neck is still a little funky and I've been slacking on working the ATG into my workouts, anyways. Still, I've never done full on ATG squats with this much weight before, so.... PB!

Standing Calf Raises - 265 lbs. 3x20 - I do these in my Power-Rack kind of like a Smith machine without the Smith part. How's YOUR balance? :D Up 10 lbs. from my previous working best, so.... PB!.

SLDL's - 205 lbs. 6x3 - Up 20 lbs. New PB!. Still working my way up slowly on the weight with these, but I'm very happy with the progress I'm making lately on them.

DB Military Press – 55 lbs. on each DB -6x3 -Backed the weight off on these a little bit as my front right deltoid has been bothering me. Worked in some slow negatives. Nice.

BB Shrugs - 315 -6x4 - Alternated between a close and shoulder-width grip. 3 count at the top of each rep and held the bar at the bottom for 10 on each set. These felt okay on my neck at this weight, tonight.

Standing Side Lateral Raises - 30 lbs. -6x4 -- Ooof!

Bent Over Double DB Row/Reverse Fly (rear delt focus) - 30 lbs. 6x4 -- Alternated between these two exercises on these.

Got my PWO Supershake(tm) and then stretched out. No cardio tonight, because I got a bit of a late start after work.

Total Lift Time - 62 minutes. (abs/warmup not included)

Solid workout with some PB's. I gave my abs the night off for my birthday. :D Time to hang with the missus and enjoy a nice dinner. Ya'll have a great night.

Cheers,
jag

Well, hopefully next birthday I won't be trying to cram as much lifting in as I can prior to a surgery that will take me out for three weeks.

Had a nice last night with Lady Jag, following my acupuncture appointment. We relaxed a bit and made some beef kabobs on the grill, served with some steamed broccoli and some baked beans. Tried to get an early bedtime, but didn't make it as early as I would have liked.

I get my tooth fixed today, finally, and then head home for a back/tri's workout. I'm feeling pretty sluggish the last couple of days. I had to cut nearly all my supp's for two weeks prior to my surgery. I think I'm starting to feel the effects of not being able to take the liver tabs, which I get quite a bit of energy from. Meh. Should be an interesting workout, tonight.

How long before you start to feel better?

Not sure. It's just a local block so I'll be conscious when I leave the surgery center. Coherent, no. Conscious, yes. The folks I've talked to who have had it done have said that the day of the surgery is a bit of a blur and you want to sleep a lot. The second day is a bit rough, but then the third or fourth day is when things start to get functional again. I guess we'll see how it goes. Since I'm in good shape (and I'm also a mutant in that I heal remarkably fast), I may have an expedient recovery. I plan to force myself to eat the day of my surgery since I know appetite is going to be an issue, and I'm also going to get as much water in me as I can afterwards to help flush the anesthesia out of my system.

anesthesia rocks.

I hate it. I hate being unconscious in a room full of people I don't know. I'm a bit of a control freak, so allowing that to happen is tough for me. I'm pushing to have my wife in the operating room with me while I'm under. We'll see if they will allow it.

Happy belated birthday Jag, from everybody at the Teepee!

Thanks, M! Give all the hairy critters there a scritch behind the ears for me. I guess that would include Rob, too. LOL! :D Ya'll missed the pics I posted last week!

The Workout

I was wiped after I got home from work. I DID get my tooth fixed, though, so maybe the white-knuckling it in the dentist's chair didn't help me feel any more energized. LOL! Wasn't too bad, and I was in and out of there in less than an hour. Came home and promptly got a 20 minute cat nap. Heh! Took me a bit to wake up and get moving, but I had a pretty decent workout afterwards. Here's how it went:

Preface: 30 second stretch from multiple angles after each segment/exercise. Kept rest times between 60-75 seconds.

Jump rope - High speed for 45 seconds, rest for 15 seconds. I repeat this over and over for five full minutes. Good light warmup.

Ab's Superset
Weighted Crunches w/35 lb. plate - 3x10
Hanging Leg Raises - 3x10

4x10 - Shoulder Width Grip Pullups - BW only
4x10 - Hammer Grip Sternum Pullups - BW only

I'm playing around a bit with my lat workouts. First, I dropped the extra weight and upped the volume, because I suspect my lats respond much better to this approach than the heavier weight and lower reps that I've been doing. I also dropped the lat flies/shrugs for the time being while I am doing this, partly because I want to isolate the pullups for this experiment, partly because I'm not entirely sure they're really doing what I'm intending them to do, and partly because they can be tough on my shoulders and I want to give them a rest. Got an EVIL pump off of these in my lats tonight, though, which is a good sign I'm on the right track!

Rack Deads- Warm-Up - 185x8 /Warm-Up 2 - 275x6/ Working Sets - 315 -6x3/ - Felt good to move back up a bit in the weight on these, again. Heaviest I've gone since my post-driver accident.

T-Bar Rows - 6x3 @ 190 - Up 10 lbs. New PB!.

Reverse Grip Bench- 205 lbs. - 6x3- Up 10 lbs. for a New PB!.

Flat Bench Barbell Pullovers - 105 - 6x3 - Switched up from cross-bench DB pullovers to these for a bit of a change and to hit the tris' from a slightly different angle. Really nice pump on these, tonight.

Dips - 90 lbs. - 6x3 - Felt REALLY strong on these, tonight. Even managed to work in some reverse negatives which I've not been able to do much of with two plates hanging on the Grizzly Belt. Nice.

PWO Supershake(tm) and stretched out after putting the weights away. No cardio today as it was getting late and my workout was a little bit longer than usual for whatever reason..

Total Lift Time - 71 minutes

So, little bit longer than I'd like, but not too bad. Some PB's in there and weights moving back up on the deads. I also got some good news tonight as well. My Mom's friend who is a nurse did some killer research and got me the name of a urologist in town who's specialty is men's testosterone! Excellent! I'll be checking to see if he's in my insurance network and calling him tomorrow to see if he's the guy I ought to be talking to about my low test issues. Encouraging news, though. I've felt a little discouraged this week by my hormonal issues, so it's good to finally have a name that might be able to offer some help.

Well, Lady Jag's got dinner about ready, so I'll go wash up and prepare to devour. Hope ya'll have a great night.

Hopefully this will be the only surgery I'll need to do for this issue and I can get on with breating well. I found out today at my pre-surgery meeting with the doc that they DO use a full anasthetic rather than just a local block because they don't want you moving around at all while they've got you on the table. Gonna be that much harder to shake the wooziness off. Meh.

Nahhh. No bad experiences and I intend to keep it that way. As for cameras and camcorders, those can be brought in AFTER you are put under the anesthesia. Heh! All I know is, I'm going in to get my nose worked on. If I wake up with a sore ass there will be hell to pay!

LOL! Yeah, like I need any help being a bigger mutant than I already am. :D

Had early morning meetings today (with VP's no less! ) and then went to my pre-surgery meeting with the doc, which went well. All looks good to go. I'll be there bright and early....REALLY early.....next Thursday. I have mixed feelings about it. Not looking forward to the pain afterwards, or trying to shake the anesthesia, but I am looking forward to the relief it's going to give my sinuses. Suffer a little in the short term to not suffer in the longer term, I suppose.

The other good news is that I'm booked for a July 3rd meeting with the urologist I was referred to who specializes in men's hormone issues. I'm kind of jacked about that, as my low test problems have been somewhat discouraging to me the last couple of weeks.

LMAO BS and dbx! :D

Been a busy weekend, so far, but fun and productive. Celebrated mine and my bro's birthday's last night as well as Father's Day for my Dad. Had some really great BBQ'd ribs and fried shrimp. Yum! Spent today doing some clean-up around the house and prepping some clothes to give to charity. I was way overdue to clean out my closet and dresser of the things that I nevery wear anymore or don't fit any longer. As a result, I've got a nice stash of stuff to take to our favorite charity tomorrow, along with a few other items. It goes for a good cause and gets used by people who can really use it, and it's also a good federal and state tax write off as well. It's a lot of work getting that stuff together, though! At any rate, after all that, I had a little cat-nap and then hit my workout. I'm discovering my energy levels are a little lower than I'm used to since I dropped pretty much all my supp's prior to the surgery I have coming up next week. Bummer. Still, a good workout.

Weighted V-Ups w/35 lbs. plate - 3x10
Hanging Leg Raises - 3x10

Reverse Grip Hammer Style Incline DB Presses (http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showpost.php?p=8533921&postcount=63) - 80 lbs. (each DB) 3x6- Very nice burn to these, tonight. Kept the weight I addes last week

Flat DB Bench - 105 lbs. (each DB) 3x6 - Worked a few half-reps in on each set just for fun. Ouch!

Flat DB Flies -65 lbs. (each DB) 3x6 - It had been quite awhile since I've done flat bench DB flies, so I worked 'em back in for a change-up. I really liked the stretch on these tonight.

Dips -Bodyweight + 90 lbs. -3x6- Kept a chest focus on these.

Weighted Chin-Ups - BW + 25 lbs. On Grizzly Belt 3x6 - Kept these in the mix, replacing the Oly BB curls.

Standing DB Hammer Curls - 55 lbs. (each DB) - 3x6 - Nice pump on these tonight.

Reverse Grip BB Curls - 90 lbs. - These bothered my elbow a little bit, but not enough to keep me from doing them.

PWO stretch and cool down/stretch and then PWO Supershake(tm). No cardio tonight.

Total lift time: 50 minutes.

So, solid workout. I'll be sufficiently sore tomorrow. Hope ya'll are having a great weekend!

i hope that speedo/thong was in the box. although, make sure the box is marked to go to a very warm climate. we do not want to see a homeless guy walking down the street in that thing in the dead of winter!

i am sure the surgery will go well, they won't mess with you while your out, for fear of what you might do to them when you wake up.

Happy . . . . errr . . . Sunday Jag.

Nice workout. How do you like your Reverse Grip Hammer Style Incline DB Presses? I might have to give them a try the next time I do DB Bench Presses. I kind of do the same thing with my cable flies.

I'm also impressed with your weighted dips and pull-ups. Nicely done.

Good day good sir.

Ah yes, the one exercise I have on my "chart" that I never actually do :) I guess I don't like them, but I was doing them occasionally a year ago. I think about 60lbs for reps is more MY speed. By golly, I'll do some tomorrow. Thanks for the reminder ;)

Heh! Ya'll are crackin' me up! Been a busy boy today at work as well as over the weekend. Life is in full speed, lately. Still quite a bit left to do before I have my surgery Thursday, but I think I'll get it all done. Had an awesome workout tonight after I got off work.

Swiss Ball Crunch w/35 lbs - 3x10
Roman Chairs - 3x10

ATG Barbell Squats – W/U 1 - 135 x 8; W/U 2 - 205 x 8; 255 @ 3x6 -Up another 5 lbs. on these from last week, so PB!. I'm really getting into the ATG squats, lately.

Standing Calf Raises - 270 lbs. 3x20 - I do these in my Power-Rack kind of like a Smith machine without the Smith part. How's YOUR balance? :D Up 5 lbs. from my previous working best, so.... PB!.

SLDL's - 210 lbs. 3x6 - Up 5 lbs. New PB!. Really liking the steady progress I'm making on these as of late.

DB Military Press – 60 lbs. on each DB -3x6 -Worked in a few slow negatives and even a couple of 1/2 reps.

BB Shrugs - 320 -3x6 - Alternated between a close and shoulder-width grip. 3 count at the top of each rep and held the bar at the bottom for 10 on each set. Back up to my previous best working weight on these, tonight. Nice.

Standing Side Lateral Raises - 30 lbs. -3x6 -- Ooof! I try to do slow negatives on these since I don't have a cable machine to give me constant tension.

Bent Over Double DB Row/Reverse Fly (rear delt focus) - 30 lbs. 3x6 -- Alternated between these two exercises on these.

Got my PWO Supershake(tm) and then stretched out before busting out 15 minutes on the "epileptical".

Total Lift Time - 45 minutes. (abs/warmup/cardio not included)

So, nice workout with some PB's sprinkled in. Felt pretty strong tonight, too. Hope ya'll are doing great. Off to spend a little quality time with the Missus.

Cheers!

i would be willing to bet that even though this down time is not planned or welcome, you will benefit greatly from it. for one thing, little unnoticed injuries will have time to heal, and you are smart, so you will start back lighter and work back to where you left off, then (i predict) jump past that point quickly. not to mention how the extra breathing ability and O2 supply will benefit your training.

will you be allowed to do small things like seated calves with a plate on your knees and some forearms while sitting watching TV (as long as you stay out of rooms that might have dust or dirt and don't push too hard)??? those would at least keep the blood moving to the furthest extremities and maintain healthy circulation...

Morning, jag! :) Sorry about the surgery stuff :p -- but hopefully it will fix what ails you and your sinuses won't give you such heck anymore.

I hate it. I hate being unconscious in a room full of people I don't know. I'm a bit of a control freak, so allowing that to happen is tough for me. I'm pushing to have my wife in the operating room with me while I'm under. We'll see if they will allow it.

I agree. I felt the same way when I was given nitrous oxide one time. Never again. I hated being awake and not being able to do anything. That freaked me out.

When I had Britt via cesarean, I was given an epidural and was wide awake feeling fine. However, afterwards they gave me something to put me to sleep/relax me in recovery and I felt like poo poo for at least 3 days. When I had little B, I told them not to give me the stuff to relax me afterwards and the difference in how I felt was like night and day.

I have had some surgery on my nose, however -- not for sinus problems :D -- a long time ago. The doctor told me for that area it's best to be knocked out due to how aware the patient is of the (excuse me) grinding, scraping, etc. :p Anyway, they were breaking my nose -- so that's probably why he suggested being put under. Are they doing endoscopic surgery on you? I've read the recovery time is more speedy with that.

Hope you had a happy non-Father's day and I'll keep you in my prayers for your upcoming surgery. :)

We'll see how it goes. For the first week, I'm not going to do anything at all (and probably won't feel like it). I'm meeting with the urologist on the 3rd of July and I have a feeling I'm going to wind up on HRT while I'm on my downtime, which could also bring some amped up progress my way. But just being able to breath is going to make a huge difference for me in general, not just with my training, and that's the goal of it all, anyways.

Doesn't doing 60 crunches (half of them weighted, no less), tire you out, resulting in a worse workout?

Nahhh. Actually, they work well as part of my warm-up. Plus, I hate doing abs, so I'd just as soon get them out of the way. If I leave them for the end of my workout I can sometimes get too tired to bother, so I do them first as part of my warm-up and kill two birds with one stone that way.

Another hat trick!

Hehe! Thanks, Joel! :D

Yeah, I think I'm going to be asking them not to give me a bunch of crap after they bring me out of anesthesia as well. That stuff is worse than the anesthesia itself in many respects. Blech! They are doing computer guided endoscopic micro-surgery on me. They're knocking me completely out for the same reasons they gave you. I appreciate the well wishes and the prayers, though, Hibby. Going under the knife is always a little scary.

Ohhhh, man, I love cherries. They're definitely in season. I think we've been popping around $4 a pound for them. The great news is that my brother has a huge cherry tree in his back yard that always delivers some of the best cherries I've ever had. He always gives us way more than we can even eat. I like raspberries too, but what I really miss are blackberries. Where I grew up there were wild blackberry bushes all over the place. We used to go pick 'em on the weekends and my Mom would make these outstanding blackberry cobblers. My brother and I would eat the damn things plain until our teeth were dark blue and we were sick to our stomachs.

you mean lady jag doesn't cut the grass? i convinced BBabe that it is the cardio that all the top BB pros use!

Well, don't forget that Lady Jag is originally a city girl from New York. The concept of even having a lawn was pretty mind-boggling for her. I let her try to mow it last year but she's pretty petite and fiery and got it in her head that she wanted to fight the lawn mower the entire way rather than work with it and use it's momentum. She was wiped out before she even got half done. LOL! I had to mow oveer what she'd done again, anyway. She's expressed interest in learning how to do it again, so maybe we'll let her have another crack at it. I'm kind of anal about my lawn. I have the best lawn in the neighborhood due to my being so particular about it. I treat it myself for insects and fertilizer, etc. All my neighbors have the Chemlawn guys doing theirs, and they all look like ****. The Chemlawn guy actually caught me one day when I was getting the mail while he was treating my neighbors lawn and tried to sell me on their service. I said "Look at all the lawns in this neighborhood that you guys treat. Now look at my lawn. Which one looks really lush, green and healthy?". He sheepishly said "Yours does." I asked him why I would ever want him to touch my lawn, knowing that. He didn't have an answer for me. :D

My 6th sense tells me this is a joke.

But i'm not sure. lol.

Well if you think I'm gonna tell you whether it was or not...

Hey Jag, just letting you know my thoughts are with you. I know your surgery will go well. Let us know how it goes ASAP.

Thanks, BS! Tomorrow is the big day. I'm not overly worried about it, other than the anesthesia part sometimes bothers me because I've had a bad experience with the stuff due to my asthma. When I had my wisdom teeth out many moons ago, I passed out in the car and my face turned blue because I wasn't breathing on my own. Luckily my Mom was watching me closely and woke me up and took me into my General Practitioner's office which we happened to be driving past at the time. They kept me under observation for about an hour and kept me awake and after that I was fine. Still...kinda scary. When I'm feeling up for it, I'll try to pop in here and let ya'll know I'm still kickin'.

I get my last back/tri's workout in today and then I'm off the weights for awhile while I heal up. I'm pretty much counting tomorrow as a wash and know it will be pretty much a blur. I'm going to head to the movie rental place after work and snag a bunch of movies so that I'll have something to watch when TV gets really bad.

Happy Hump Day, folks!

Hey Jag....finally getting a chance to catch up, not that you need any more traffic in here! You're the male version of Hibby! lol

Anyhow, glad to see you finally posted up some pics. Once I rubbed my eyes hard enough to erase the images of the April 2005 attire, I could see that you have definitely added some thickness to your frame! Nice work. Thats what happens when you continue to lift heavier and heavier weights over time and feed yourself along the way. One thing I don't seem to notice in your journal is cardio...do you do any? I hate to see anyone trying to limit their calories when trying to add size and the way to get past that hump is cardio. Plus cardio helps you stay hungry enough during the day to eat all that food you need to! I do cardio every day I'm not working legs now. 45 minutes on off days and 20 minutes PWO on lifting days. As I think I've already mentioned in another thread, in the past 4 weeks since I began my 4th DC blast, I managed to drop 6 sloppy pounds while at the same time eating MORE than I had on my last blast and I keep beating the log book. Trust me, it is tough to get over the mind f**k of thinking you are going to be a fat bastard, but if you eat clean and stick with the cardio (I also cut my carbs at 5-6 pm every day unless I workout at night), I'll bet you anything you'll be able to add muscle with little to no fat gain (you can even reduce bf% by eating really clean).

Anyhow, kudos again...the pics back up the lifting journal numbers.

Hey, Steve! First, while I don't mind the comparison at all, I'm willing to bet Hibby probably doesn't want me lowering her property values by association. LOL! :D

Second, wow...thanks for the kind words and compliments. I know that there a lot of "e-stats" on these forums and many don't buy the numbers that people put up. I've seen no benefit to that and really wanted to document my progress (or lack thereof) for myself and everyone to see in vivid detail. I appreciate the feedback you and many others have given me this past year and I'd like to think I've made good use of this information and applied it to what I am doing. I think the pic's show I haven't been slacking, at least.

Third, yeah, you've called me out on the one piece I'm not as dedicated about as I need to be, and that's cardio. I usually do about 15-20 minutes at the end of my workouts and then I smatter a few walks, some yardio and the occassional bike ride in there as well. The problem, as you've surmised, is that I'm not as dedicated and consisten with my cardio as I need to be. I certainly haven't had a problem getting the calories I need and I'm not really limiting myself on that front. I still have to force myself to eat in that 3500+ calories per day range that I need to be in. And, I've been working on limiting carbs after 6pm or so, but you try being married to a woman of Spanish descent where rice is a huge part of any meal. LOL! The real obstacles for me with my cardio being consistent (particularly with days away from the weights) has revolved around energy levels or rather, my lack thereof. I have two things going on in the near-term that I believe are going to help me with that (among other things). The first is the sinus surgery I'm having tomorrow. More airflow in my breathing certainly isn't going to hurt me in the least. The second is the appointment I've got set up with this urologist who specializes in men's test issues on the 3rd. The low test issue for me has finally really started impacting my energy levels (and attitude) to the point that it's a challenge for me to do damn near anything. My workouts have kept me from REALLY falling into a pit of laziness and apathy. Getting my hormonal levels balanced out is going to really help me have more energy to do the things I want and/or need to be doing, and cardio is on that list.

Again, thanks for the feedback and words of encouragement, man.

Good luck tomorrow, Jag.

Thanks, T3! I appreciate you thinking about me. Kick some ass on Saturday!

Oh, MAN, was I dragging ass when I got home from work today. I was in "falling asleep in my chair" kind of shape. I debated even doing my workout at all, but I figured that even if it was half-assed it would be better than sleeping this afternoon and then not being able to sleep tonight, and may even help me sleep tonight. So, I got changed and went for it. It turned out to be a decent workout:

Preface: 30 second stretch from multiple angles after each segment/exercise. Kept rest times between 60-75 seconds.

Jump rope - High speed for 45 seconds, rest for 15 seconds. I repeat this over and over for five full minutes. Good light warmup.

Ab's Superset
Unweighted Swiss Ball Crunches - 3x10
Roman Chairs - 3x10

Did my crunches without weight today, for a change of pace.

4x10 - Shoulder Width Grip Pullups - BW only
4x10 - Hammer Grip Sternum Pullups - BW only

My lats got sore as hell last week (usually a very good sign that I'm growing where I am concerned, personally) after doing a more volume oriented lat workout, so I kept it in the mix this week. Nice pump on these!

Weighted Hyperextensions - 45 lb. plate - 3x6 -- Didn't have it in me to do deadlifts tonight, so I swapped these in instead.

T-Bar Rows - 6x3 @ 190 - Kept the weight I added last week.

Close Grip Bench- 225 lbs. - 3x6- Up 5 lbs. for a New PB!. Hey...I gotta have ONE PB in there, at least! :D

Flat Bench Barbell Pullovers - 105 - 3x6 - I'm liking these in place of cross-bench DB pullovers, lately.

Dips - Bodyweight - 5x10 - Decided to give the volume approach my lats are responding to a try on my triceps following that other heavy tri work. What a friggin' PUMP I got off doing this many dips! I threw in some slow negatives in every set for good measure. I thought my tri's were going to pop out of the skin on the back of my arms.

PWO Supershake(tm) and stretched out after putting the weights away. No cardio today as I was already dragging ass and I need to leave a little in the tank for my sinus sugery tomorrow.

Total Lift Time - 50 minutes

And so ends this four week run before I get my schnoz bored out tomorrow. Now begins my going bat-**** insane for the next three weeks while I can't lift. At any rate, ya'll have a great night. I'll pop in once I'm coherent enough for it and let ya'll know if my brains are running out of my nose or not after tomorrow. :D

Cheers!

Get some rest Jag. You're in for a whole new world once you've healed up. I had a friend who had sinus surgery a few years ago. There was a slight change to his voice, he could breath, and he could smell things. It was like opening a windows. He had always had sinus problems (head colds, infections, ear aches, etc.) and finally asked his doctor about it. Surgery was recommended and done, then he was asking himself why he hadn't done it sooner. I'm not sure why you're having your surgery but if your reasons are anything like my friends I'm excited for you. It will go well and you'll have a new world ahead of you.

Hey, all. Thanks for the well wishes. I survived it. Had a fairly easy go of it today, all things considered. No naseau or dizziness from the anesthesia and the pain meds are good but don't make me super loopy. I've had to get in the shower every hour and irrigate my sinuses with a warm salt/baking soda mixture using a bulb syringe, so that's been a bit of a drag though it does feel good. I've lost quite a bit of blood today, but overall I'm doing pretty good. Even managed to get some sleep here and there. I've been hitting the ECAA's today and trying to keep the liquids and food in my system as best as I can. I even got back onto the liver tabs tonight and those seem to have helped a bit with the iron deficiency from my blood loss.

At any rate, I appreciate ya'll checking in on me and for your support. BoyscouT now owes everyone in this thread $10, by the way. :D

The meds are the best part of the whole affair. :D

There's an easier way to flush your sinuses... 1 cup of warm water w/ 1 tsp of kosher or sea salt. Hold your head tilted over the sink and either pour the solution into one nostril and let it run out the other, or use the bulb syringe. No need to get in the shower.

I sent for a "Rhino Horn" for the sole purpose of nasal irrigation. It's actually an ancient practice. http://www.peacefulcompany.com/detail.aspx?ID=433

Heya folks, just popped in to say "howdy". Been a rough few days, but I'm on the upswing. Mostly I'm just still a little tired. I've been having to sleep sitting propped up, which doesn't work well for me, so between that and not being able to breathe through my nose much it's been difficult to sleep at night. I woke up early yesterday morning with a cardboard tongue which was lovely. Last night I dug into my GABA stash, though, and that seems to have helped me sleep much better and sleep is what I'm really needing while I heal up. I've been catnapping during the day and watching TV and movies when awake. My energy levels haven't been very high, though.

The irrigations are going well. Not many "cranberries" anymore. I seem to be healing rather quickly. The shape of my cheeks is such, though, that no matter what I do I wind up with the saltwater/baking soda solution running down my neck, thus I've been doing this in the shower, still. I'll keep practicing. At some point, I'm going to have to get better at doing this so that I can do it while I'm at work as I have to keep doing it 4-5 times per day for the next three months. Everyone swears that, even though this is bothersome, it's still much better than having to deal with gauze being packed up the nose.

At any rate, I appreciate all the well wishes. For those of you who've posted something who made me laugh, this is for you:

Whew! I think I'm caught up with everyone else's journals. Time to catch up with my own.

Doing fairly well. Back to work for the first time since the surgery, today. I'm working from home for the rest of the week. My boss told me to just take it easy and not get too carried away and go take a nap if I need one. Gotta like that. I mostly have tried to rest and sleep the last couple of days. The irrigations are going well, and I'm getting a lot of "gunk" out of there when I do them, which is a good thing. They're still a hassle, though, because I have yet to discover a way to do them without having the salt water/baking soda solution just run right down my cheeks and neck so I have to continue doing them in the shower. I'll keep experimenting and find a way to do them without having to do that, but in the meantime I'm really damn clean. :D I've been getting a little more sleep each night. The GABA has been helping on that front (there's plenty of reading on GABA on the forums and the BB.com Supersite, boyscouT, but it might be a waste of money for you since you're young and have all the benefits of that going for you). The tough part has been going to sleep and breathing fairly well through my nose and then waking up around 5am and not being able to breath through it at all, all while trying to sleep sitting up on the couch. Not fun. I've caught up on some DVD rentals and bad TV, and tried not to over exert myself the last few days. I have really appreciated everyone's support and comments in here, though. Ya'll are a great group of folks.

Have a great Tuesday!

No, but I do think they gave me all of his boogers. :(

I AM happy to report, thought, that my appetite is coming back to life. It was pretty poor the last few days and I've really had to make myself eat. The plus side to this, I guess, is that I've leaned out and lost a little bodyfat during that time (the Xtend has helped quite a bit with this process, as well). I'm finally starting to FEEL like eating, though, and am starting to be able to taste things again so that's definitely a good thing.

Also, I had my geek out moment of the month a few moments ago when I watched the new teaser-trailer for Spider-Man 3 (http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony_pictures/spider-man_3/) over at Apple.com's movie trailer section. Spidey has been my favorite since I could focus my eyes long enough to see the pictures in a comic book and I've been reasonably happy with the films thus far, but this third one....oh, my....it looks like a Spidey fan's wet dream and I really can't wait to see the damn thing, now! It's going to suck waiting for an entire year for this thing to come out!

what about picking up one of those plastic barber shop covers with the velcro neck? maybe a really small one, like kid's size. then, when you have to do it at work, it will keep you clean, and you could probably hang it right into the sink to keep from making a mess out of the bathroom floor.

if that fails, go to the vet and get one of those big plastic cones for large breeds! just don't drown.

I thought about the barber slips that go around the neck, actually. Might do that if I don't get any better with these rinses before next week. I think I can milk the working from home thing for another couple weeks if I really want to. My boss's husband has had THREE sinus surgeries so she knows full well what I've been going through. It's great to have an understanding boss, no doubt. As for the plastic cone, that may not be a good idea. I'd be too tempted to wear it like they make the dogs wear them so that they can't lick themselves, just to mess with my coworkers. Hehehe! :D

LOL, Frank! Those also go by the name of "Farmer Brown's" in my neck of the woods. I can't do them, though. I'm only allowed to GENTLY blow my nose and as sparingly as possible. They want me to do the irrigations rather than blow my nose whenever possible.

I know. It's probably the best teaser/trailer I've seen for a movie. Supposedly they're showing it before the new "Superman Returns" film at theaters. I haven't gone to see SR, yet, so I can't confirm.

I'm tellin' ya, go check out a bull fight while you're in Mexico City. It's one of those cultural things you have to experience.

If you go see "Superman Returns", you'll likely get to see this "Spider-Man 3 trailer". However, it wasn't "a soft place in your HEART" that I thought you had for Wolverine!

Feeling pretty good today. Slept really great for the first time since the surgery, I think. Sinuses stayed open all night and I really slept deeply as a result, even with sleeping on my back and all. Hey Jag,

I'm glad to see the recovery is coming along and that you are getting back to your own self.

I'm praying that it continues to go nicely and that you are back in the gym before long.

The Xtend seems to be paying some dividends with my recovery (although it did not work on my sore knee last night). It seems to be working nicely with the Aminos I am taking first thing in the morning and the creatine cocktail I am taking an hour before the workout. I am using 2 scoops of Xtend immediately after the workout.

Have a great holiday weekend.

Many thanks for the kind words and prayers, Ray. Very much appreciated.

Glad the Xtend is starting to work for you. It took a couple of weeks of using it before I started to really visibly see differences, but maybe a week of use to start feeling it in my recovery. I had to play around with different dosages to get a handle on what worked best for me, as I alluded to in your journal. I've found sipping it for about 30 minutes prior to, during and then after my workouts has helped a lot, as has trying to get a minimal dose on days off the weight. Enjoy your weekend as well, amigo!

No ****, man! That's an expensive movie going stint that youngblood's been on!

Had a nice evening out with some friends last night. We went and had pizza at this new place that opened up. They served their pizza on this amazing crust. It was almost like ezekiel bread. Very flat and thin and flaky. Really good. We then went and caught "Superman Returns", which was very well done. Brandon Routh sounds just like Christopher Reeve, if you shut your eyes while he's talking. He's definitely a good fit for the role, though I still find Reeve to have been more personable and charming. Maybe he'll continue to grow into the boots, which are admittedly pretty big ones to fill. He did a good job, though, and certainly wasn't bad in the role by any means at all. Good to see Supes rebooted and back up on the big screen.

Slept very good last night, too. I'm still sleeping in bed, but I reverted to propping myself up and sleeping on my back like I did while sleeping on the couch after my sinus surgery. The primary reasons for this are that I was starting to get used to sleeping like that, and because I was getting NO neck, back or shoulder pain while sleeping like that. When I started sleeping in my bed again, some of those aches and pains started coming back. After last night, sleeping in a fairly straight position all night like that (and I slept really well, too), I think I've found a new favorite way to be sleeping. It's comfortable and I have no neck and back pain this morning. Gotta love it!

Speaking of my sinus surgery, I had my first check-up yesterday following the procedure. The doc was amazed with my recovery. Said everything looked fantastic when he checked it out. I told him I was finally able to start sleeping in bed, laying down again on Wednesday and he raised his eyebrows and goes "Really? That's quite a bit ahead of schedule!". He said that if I wasn't getting bloody noses from doing that, then to feel free to keep doing it. He was a bit surprised I hadn't woken up with a bloody nose, it seems. Then he asked me how I was doing on pain meds and if I needed any more. I told him that I only took the hydrocodone he prescribed the day of the surgery and them switched to Tylenol after that, but that I haven't even had any Tylenol for the last two days. Again, he raised his eyebrows and said "Really?". LOL! Apparently most people stay on the pain meds for two weeks on average. I can't imagine doing that. At any rate, he said everything is looking great and that I'm healing very well. Next check-up is next Friday.

So far, we have a lazy weekend ahead of us. No major plans. Probably do some yardio tomorrow as the lawn is starting to get a little out of hand. Lady Jag's enjoying doing some work in her flower bed's this morning and I'm just enjoying being a bit lazy. The Fourth Of July is always a very special, romantic time of year for us. We were engaged on top of the Empire State Building just before the fireworks went off on a July 4th, so we get a little sappy for this holiday. :)

Hope you all have a safe, fun holiday weekend!

Glad the Xtend is starting to work for you. It took a couple of weeks of using it before I started to really visibly see differences, but maybe a week of use to start feeling it in my recovery. I had to play around with different dosages to get a handle on what worked best for me, as I alluded to in your journal. I've found sipping it for about 30 minutes prior to, during and then after my workouts has helped a lot, as has trying to get a minimal dose on days off the weight. jag

is that a powdered form of that pill that has all that maca, zinc, arginine, etc in it?

i have really felt the drop from running out of glutamine and forgetting to order more. i mix up 64 oz of coolaid with 10 grams or creatine and 10 grams of glutamine as a pre and during workout drink, then 5 gr and 5 gr on non workout days. it was really doing the job. i think xience has the best stuff on the market, but it is expensive and i am poor, so i get the cheap stuff and mix it myself. i know it can not match the quality and blends they use, but it still helps.

Glad you're doing well jag, I'll say a few words for you over some sage tonight, I need to speak to Old Man some.

Morning, jag! :)

I really enjoyed Superman Returns also! We thought he sounded a lot like Christopher Reeves to.

I'm glad your recovery is going so well! I hate pain medication. The last time I had surgery, I told them I'd just use Tylenol because every stronger pain medication I've tried makes me feel sick. I thought I was going to have to call 911 after taking a Vicodin one time.

I hope you and lady jag enjoy the holiday weekend!

Hey Jag, just stopping by to catch up on all I have missed here. Glad to hear the surgery went well, and the recovery seems to be going even better than you could have hoped for.

Isn't today your appointment with the specialist for TRT? I was going to fill you in on my status in that regard, but I have to update my journal and I'll post it there.

Good to hear that the recovery is coming along there Snot-Man (and his faithful sidekick Mucus Lad :D )

I am torn about the whole Superman thing - never was much of a fan (I guess it is the old Marvel/DC bias) - I may just wait for the DVD.

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I have been staying away from the boards as work has been awfully busy and it is getting to be fantasy football season.

Hell no that wasn't an accident. That was meticulously planned and executed, my friend! :D She had no idea I was doing it, so it was a total surprise. I'll post the story of that event when I have a little more time. It's a fun one.

Xtend is a powdered drink mix. Mighty tasty, too. :D I don't do creatine, as it doesn't do a damn thing for me but make me retain water, but I throw a little extra glutamine in with my shakes.

I've had to dump a couple Tylenol in me here and there the last four days or so, but I'm not taking them nonstop like M&M's like I was the first few days after the surgery. I hate taking any kind of med's if I don't really need them. Especially if they make me feel off at all, like pain med's have a tendency to do. Glad you enjoyed the flick. It was pretty well done. Have a great 4th, Hib!

Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na Snot Maaaaaaaaan! *BIF!* *POW!* *SNORT!* *SNIFFLE!* *SPLAT!* :D

You should check out the Supes flick, man. Supes isn't one of my real favorites, either. I'm more of a Marvel guy like you are (though I do have a soft spot for Batman), but it was really well done and worth seeing on the big screen.

No worries about not being around, much, man. I haven't been online as much since my surgery, either. Partly because I'm still dumping anesthesia out of my system and just don't have the energy to post as much as usual, and partly because hanging out here only makes me want to lift. :(

So, speaking of lifting, I actually snuck in a very light body-weight workout today just to see how it would go. I didn't feel too strong and boy was I sucking wind a lot during this (as well as during the yardio I did yesterday), which is supposedly a fun ilttle after effect of the anesthesia, but it felt really good to be a little bit physically active after a week and a half of not doing a damn thing. My blood sugar dropped severely at the end of my workout today, though, and left me feeling really funky. At any rate, here's what I did:

Warmup: Jumprope 30 seconds, rest 30 seconds. Repeat. Wound up doing this for about 4 iterations.

Roman Chairs - 3x10
Pushups - 3x10 - Did three different hand positions: wide, shoulder-width, diamond
Pullups - 3x10 - Did three different positions: Wide grip, hammer grip, shoulder-width grip
ATG Squats w/ Oly Bar only - 3x10
Calf Raises w/ Oly Bar only - 3x10
Dips (Tri's emphasis) -3x10
Chin-Ups (Bi's emphasis) - 3x8
Dips (Chest emphasis) - 3x10
Seated BB Military Press w/ Oly Bar only - 3x10

Took me about 30 minutes to cruise through that.

Afterwards, I got cleaned up and went and visited the urologist that I was referred to as a specialist on men's hormonal imbalances. I walked him through everything I've done the past year, what the issues are, and we looked at my bloodwork. He also did a testicular exam and said that there is definitely some slight atrophy that is usually associated with.....*drum roll please*.....hypogonadism, which is what I've been guessing is the issue for awhile, now. I'm going back in on Wednesday to do some more bloodwork, because there are a few things my past bloodwork hasn't checked for that will help him determine if there is a testicular production problem with my low test levels or if it's more of a systemic issue, which will help him to figure out the best route to take to address it. Bottom line, TRT is almost certainly in my future, but he wants to have a clear picture before we start doing anything. The other issue he wants to talk through is if Lady Jag and I are going to want to try to have kids in the future because that could impact how we proceed treatment-wise as well as some methods can impact sperm production and others are less prone to it. Overall I was impressed with him. He talked on the level with me, obviously knew his stuff, and didn't treat me like I was uninformed about this stuff and he did take the time to read through my history and supplementation. So, I'll get the bloodwork done on Wednesday and then get together again with him next Monday to look over the results and talk about next steps. I have some hope of finally getting this addressed, and that's a bit of a relief. :)

Hope ya'll are having a great weekend. Sorry I haven't kept up with most of your journals. My energy levels are still pretty spotty, so I don't camp out on the 'net very much at the moment, which has made it difficult to keep up with everyone.

Cheers!

Jag, any time you add in any sort of exogenous testosterone there is the possibility of low sperm production. This has been the basis of the "male pill" research for the last 5 years. I was watching a show a few years ago of a guy getting a test- enanthate shot in his quad. He was declared sperm free about 4 months later. This TRT will almost always cause more hypogonadism as well. Did he say anything about HCG therapy? That will cause a rise in LH which stimulates sperm production and testicular size in the process.

When the uro did my vasectomy he found that my right vasa was 1/4 the diameter of the the left so I was essentially 1/2 sterile to start with. Finding a good urologist is like finding the proverbial needle in a haystack, find him and keep him. The one I have is super, he helped me with all of my stone issues as well and he gave us ZERO **** about the vasectomy since we have no kids.

Thanks, bro! I'm definitely going to be keeping it light. I got reminded that the anesthesia is still working it's way out of my system the last couple of days, between the yardio and the very light workout that I did today. Still, it felt good to be active way ahead of schedule, and all the sweating I did was certainly good for me, helping to clear the gunk in my system from that surgery.

LOL, the day I lose the good memory is the day I have to look for a new employer.

Well, here's hoping your memory is working flawlessly the next time I'm flying into Toronto. :D We'll see what sort of TRT I get myself into, here. Greenie kind of tipped his hat at what I was sort of thinking of with HCG, so more below on that. Hope your own efforts to resolve your low test issues go well, and it will be good to compare notes, man.

Interesting that you brought this up, Greenie. My first instinct is to ALWAYS see if I can get my own body to restart itself and the HCG approach certainly does what it can to help the body use what it has to help itself get back on track without causing further testicular atrophy or sterility (and can in fact increase testicular volume from what I have read). The trick will really come down to the type of hypogonadism that I'm working with here. If it's hypogonadotrophic hypogonadism, then apparently response to HCG Therapy is usually relatively good. But, if it's idiopathic hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (IHH) then response to flat HCG Therapy and even to pulsatile administration is usually minimal and/or rare. That's why he's checking all the LH's, FSH's and pituitaries among others to see what's really going on, here. My hope is that a therapy will be viable for me that will work WITH my body and help it to help itself rather than just flat out replace my testosterone manufacturing system altogether. We'll see what happens with the bloodwork. Appreciate the info and good thoughts, bro.

where do i start? my coffee has not kicked in yet... oh, yeah... have you ever tried some of the newer more advanced creatines that reduce the bad water retention and add to the good water retention? also, since you do use glutamine, have you ever tried it at 5+ grams mixed with only coolaid or something with no protein as a "during workout drink" and then again before bed on an empty stomach? the reason i ask is that (as you prob already know) like GABA, it has a very strong influence on GH production during exercise and sleep. but like all aminos, when you mix it with food or protein you loose those effects. i have tested creatine and glutamine several different ways, the best i have found so far is 5gr creatine 1st thing when you wake up b4 coffee or food, then a workout drink of 5 to 10 grams of each mixed together in 64 oz water and coolaid type powder, then 5 grams of glutamine on an empty stomach b4 bed. i have never tried GABA, BBabe is going to be the test rat for it this month. well, i have run out of coffee and steam, so i must go refill. brb...

:D We're still undecided on the kids thing (and not sure if we can really even have them due to a couple different circumstances). And, even if we can't have any of our own, we're not adverse to adoption if we decide we do want them.

I've tried creatine every way known to man, including the way you've mentioned above. Doesn't matter the type of creatine or how I use it, it really doesn't do much of anything for me. I'm a confirmed non-responder. I do some extra glutamine in my shakes as well as with my BCAA supplementation and that seems to work really well for me, though.

Doc said it was okay to mow the lawn as long as I did my irrigation immediately before and immediately afterwards, which I did. Doesn't seem to have bothered me or made my healing take any backwards steps. As for working out, he didn't say I COULDN'T do a light workout. Of course, I may have overlooked asking him if I could or not, too. :D Don't worry, it was a WAY light workout and it felt good to get my blood moving a little bit like that. I'm being careful. I promise.

I did get my bloodwork in hand, but it's not complete enough according to my urologist so I'm off to get more done in the morning, which will really help figure out best approaches, here. Everything I know so far about the HRT I've posted right here on this Batchannel. :D

Enjoying a lazy morning, today. Listening to the Red Hot Chili Peppers new album, "Stadium Arcadium", which is excellent. I got it for my birthday and just hadn't gotten around to listening to it. We're going to see them live in August, so I figured I'd better get familiar with their new material. Very good stuff! I took Lady Jag out for a little anniversarry dinner last night. We went to a local BBQ rib place and had a cheat meal from hell! LOL! Oh, MAN was it good, though! :D I feel like my appetite is REALLY starting to come back the last several days. Funny how that anesthesia kind of kills your desire to eat for a prolonged time. At any rate, we're just taking it easy today and enjoying having a day where we don't have to do anything at all. A rarity in this day and age.

Everyone have a safe and happy 4th of July! Happy birthday, America!

let me guess, the regular doc forgot the GH, IGF-1, PSA, Prolactin, LH, etc...? now they have to suck out more blood! i am sure you have read up on most of this already, but just adding Test when your GH is low won't help as much, and GH doesn't do much if your blood sugar/insulin is off... and it can all be wasted if they don't do a full Thyroid Panel with TSH to keep watch... it sounds like this guy is into discussing treatments rather than handing you a quick script and booting you out the door, but be sure to use the term HRT with him more than TRT, so he knows that you are interested in ALL of your important hormones being normal/high normal, not just the one. that was the mistake i made letting a doctor that had no clue what he was doing give me box after box of androgel and waste fat too much of my time. when i insisted on a FULL blood test and listed the parts he was missing and or stating were "fine"... the results were exactly what i knew they would be and i have been talking to a new doctor, i am reserving judgment on this one for now, but at least i have tested him and he passed with full knowledge of HRT for men and women, diet & nutrition and vites and supps, (which is rare)... he understands the interaction of T, GH, HCG, E-blockers, and so on. i will catch up with you later with more details.

Yeah, they pretty much pulled everything this morning when I went in for my bloodwork. So far this guy has impressed me. He's wanting to understand what's going on and THEN talk about the various options and what will work best for me. The more I read about HCG, the more I like the sounds of it, though. I want my hormonal profile to be nice and balanced, rather than just wanting my test all boosted up without taking the other hormones into consideration, and I want to try to work with whatever my body's got left in it before I start flat out circumventing the endocrine and pituitary systems altogether. HCG Therapy could be a great way to do that. We'll see what we see when I go talk to him on Monday to go over the bloodwork and talk about next steps! Got your PM. I'll respond when I get a little more time.

Actually, his appointment scheduler was the one who said it, technically, not the Doc. :D No worries, youngblood, I'm being careful. It's almost like not even lifting for me, and I'm keeping a very simple rule in place; no exercises that put my head below my heart and nothing that makes me strain too hard.

Had a nice July 4th, here. A HUGE storm rolled in last night with hurricane force winds right about the time we'd just gotten some tilapia into the oven for dinner and some red beans & rice on the stove. It rained heavy and tore down the neighbors back fence (mine survived, thankfully) and then took the power out for about two hours. So, we fired up the BBQ to finish cooking our dinner in the wind and rain and then ate it by candlelight with a nice glass of wine. :)

Hope ya'll are having a great Hump Day!

Not sure how long it will be before they'll release me to start really lifting, again. They initial prognosis was three weeks, but my mutant healing abilities have me ahead of schedule so we'll see if they let me lift sooner than that. I haven't really felt like hitting it that hard, yet, so I'm listening to my body as well as the doc.

My in-laws said the storm that hit NYC early this morning was pretty nasty. The storm we had here had 60 mph winds and did some major damage around town. I'm glad it didn't take the fence down. I would have been right out there with Lady Jag doing something about it. :D

Overall, my energy levels were much better for this workout than the one I did Monday, and my blood sugarf didn't drop out on me afterwards, either. My breathing capacity was also a lot better as well. Seems this is helping work the last remnants of the anesthesia out of my system.

After that I cleaned up the kitchen, took out the garbage, and put our lamp-post out front back together since the wind yesterday managed to dismantle it. All is well in the Jungle this evening. Hope you and yours find it the same no matter where you are.

I figured you'd be the one to key in on that. It's true, though. I tend to heal about twice as fast as most people do. Have since I was a kid. :)

Hiyas Jag

Heya, Moms! How's that new haircut treatin' ya! :)

Yesterday was a little bit rough. I took the last of my prednisone Wednesday morning and whenever I go off that stuff after being on it for awhile I experience a drop. Yesterday was that drop. My energy levels were ALL over the place. One minute I was awake if not overly energetic, and then I'd be really sleepy. At one point I fell asleep in my computer chair while TYPING! LOFL! Narcolepsy is fun! :D Energy levels have been much better today, though. My sinuses swoll up a little bit yesterday as they readjusted to not having any prednisone keeping them from getting inflamed, so that was a bit painful. Woke up this morning, though, and the sinuses were aces again and my energy levels have been very good today. I even snuck in a workout on my lunch hour. I added a few things to the mix and ran the whole thing as a bunch of supersets. Here's how it went:

Superset
Warmup: Jumprope 30 seconds, rest 30 seconds. Repeat. Wound up doing this for about 6 iterations.
Roman Chairs - 3x10

Superset
Pushups - 3x10 - Did three different hand positions: wide, shoulder-width, diamond

Superset
Pullups - 3x10 - Did three different positions: Wide grip, hammer grip, shoulder-width grip
DB Shrugs w/ 25 lb. DB's - 3x10

Superset
ATG Squats w/ Oly Bar only - 3x10
Calf Raises w/ Oly Bar only - 3x10

Superset
Dips (Tri's emphasis) -3x10
Overhead DB Pullovers w/ 25 lbs. - 3x10

Superset
Chin-Ups (Bi's emphasis) - 3x10
BB Curls (Oly bar only) - 3x10

Superset
Seated BB Military Press w/ Oly Bar only - 3x10
Standing Lateral Raises - 15 lbs. - 3x10

Total Time: 40 Minutes

Felt a little more strength coming back to me, today, which was kind of nice. I've felt awfully weak these past two weeks.

I had my next checkup with the sinus folks this afternoon. My surgeon wasn't in due to an emergency, so his PA did the checkup. Seemed like a nice guy, but I think I made him nervous for some reason. He was acting like I might rip his arm off and beat him with it at some point. I was friendly, so I'm not sure what the deal was. At any rate, he took a look up the schnoz and says "Looks like it's healing pretty well. You had your surgery three weeks ago, right?" I told him it was two weeks ago. He goes "Oh. Wow. You're healing WAY ahead of schedule, then.". I thought to myself "That's because I'm a MUTANT!" :D At any rate, he decided to go ahead and have me run another round of antibiotics. He said it's standard practice since this point in the healing is such a crucial time and everything is so sensitive there and he'd hate to see me get an infection, even though there's really no sign of anything going wrong in there. So...more drugs. Meh.

Well, time to wrap things up. We're heading out tonight for a bite to eat with friends and to see the new "Pirates Of The Carribean" film. Arrrrrrrr, matey! Have a great Friday night, folks!

Alright, well, first of all, when did anything anyone ever said in the Misc. section ever matter? That part of the forums is good for a laugh, and well...that's about it.

I had some pretty high expectations going into this film and I was afraid that it just wasn't going to be what I thought it would be, but "Pirates Of The Carribean: Dead Man's Chest" lives up to the hype. It's well written, has a great cast who all handle their characters well, has some very interesting and beautiful visual compositions and direction, crazy stunts and action, and the special effects are absolutely incredible. Davey Jones, an almost completely CGI character is just stunning and his crew are equally well done to the point that you can't tell where the actor starts, the prostetics end and the CGI components of them begin. And, of course, it has Johnny Depp doing what he does with the Jack Sparrow character, and make no mistake...this is absolutely his movie. Bloom and Knightley have central roles and are great with their characters, but Depp is who makes this movie all come together. It's a fun movie that doesn't take itself overly seriously but at the same time manages to balance the adventure with the character development perfectly, which makes all the incredible action have some weight and meaning. It's the first real true summer blockbuster movie that I've seen, and that includes the Superman and X-Men films. Anyone who didn't like this film probably has little imagination, no sense of adventure and most likely just doesn't "get it". I highly recommend it. Go see it and have fun.

Thanks, Beast! Appreciate you looking in on me! Hope all is well with you!

Spent the better part of yesterday just relaxing. My energy levels were a little low, so I got a couple naps in and watched some really bad TV after getting up early and getting the oil changed on my pickup and running some errands. It was nice to just relax a little bit.

One of the "fun" parts about recovering from the surgery is that I haven't been able to sleep past about 8am no matter how hard I try because my nose is just too stuffed up by then for me to be able to sleep comfortably. This morning I was able to actually sleep until 10:30am, though, which my body really, really needed. Man that was nice. Once I was up and moving around a bit, I got the fence mended where the high winds messed it up on the 4th, and then hand washed my pickup for the first time in ages (I've gotten in the habit of taking it to those touchless carwashes or to the places you drive in and pop some quarters in and use the high pressure hoses yourself). I got one of those Mr. Clean Auto-Dry carwash systems for Xmas and finally found some time to play with it today. Very cool gadget and it does work as advertised. It's kind of a zen thing to wash your own car by hand and getting every little spec off the paint, doing all the vacuuming and really cleaning out the interior, putting the black magic on the tires and slathering the Armor All onto the parts of the interior that need it. I just rarely take the time to do it like I should, but I do enjoy it as a meditative practice and something to give me a sense of accomplishment. The only downside to it was that it's over 100 degrees outside, so I roasted my butt off while doing it. Heh!

At any rate, I hope you're all having a fantastic weekend. Tomorrow is the big day for me in that I finally get to have that conversation with my urologist regarding my low test and how we're going to get my hormone profile balanced out. I'm kind of excited about this, and have been doing quite a bit of reading about HCG (thanks for the info, Greenie) and I'm hoping that's going to be a viable option for me as I think it's an approach that really gels with my own preference to work WITH my body and whatever it has left to offer rather than just completely supplanting the test production processes altogether. We'll see what he says, tomorrow!

Enjoy what's left of your weekend, folks!

Hi, folks. Had my appointment with the urologist today to discuss what options I have available to me. My latest round of bloodwork showed my test at 133! It's dropping lower every time I get the bloodwork done. We talked about bi-weekly test injections, but the concern that's raised by doing so is that approach pretty much shuts down sperm production and I want to be able to leave the option of kids on the table. I'm also more fond of trying things that will work with my body first rather than just heading into options that will completely supplant the test production in my body. So, we talked about HCG and he felt that it was certainly a viable option for me and worth trying. So, I'm going to be giving injections of Novarel a try, three times a week for six weeks, at which point we'll do more bloodwork and evaluate where we're at and decide whether we should continue down that path or if we need to add something else to the mix like HMG or some Test or if it just makes sense to stop and go strictly to test if my levels aren't going up like they should. My pharmacy had to order it in, so tomorrow I get lessons on my first injection at the doc's from his nurse, and then I'll be doing it myself after that. Good thing I got over my fear of needles some time ago. :D

So, that's where I'm at with this grand adventure. We'll see if this helps or not. I prefer this approach first, since it will work WITH my body, before we go to other methods that will basically replace the test production functions of my system.

Well, I usually like to sleep until about 9:30am or so on the weekends. After getting up at 6, 7 or 8 for almost two weeks straight though, it was damn nice to be able to sleep in that late. Glad you guys had fun on the coast. Beautiful country that is!

I'm pretty excited about the next six weeks or so. It's going to be interesting to see whether it makes any difference for me or not.

Meh! I hate movie critics. And Siskel was bald and Ebert's a fatty, so don't compare me to them. If you've got to compare me to a movie reviewer, I'd prefer Henry Rollins of former Black Flag fame who has a movie review show on IFC. He's buffed and tattooed, has a great sense of humor, a giant attitude and an even larger vocabulary. And, yeah, the movie rocks. Go see it. :)

The Workout

After I promptly passed out in my EZ chair after work for a 45 minute nap, I got up and got moving. The strength is slowly coming back to me, so I'm adding in some light weight where I feel comfortable about doing so without straining my sinuses. Here's how today went:

Superset
Warmup: Jumprope 30 seconds, rest 30 seconds. Repeat. Wound up doing this for about 6 iterations.
Crunches- 3x15

Superset
Pushups - 3x10 - Did three different hand positions: wide, shoulder-width, diamond. Slow negatives on every rep.
Dips (Chest emphasis) - 3x10

Superset
Pullups - 3x10 - Did three different positions: Wide grip, hammer grip, shoulder-width grip
DB Shrugs w/ 30 lb. DB's - 3x10

Superset
ATG Squats w/ Oly Bar only - 3x10
Calf Raises w/ Oly Bar only - 3x10

Superset
Dips (Tri's emphasis) -3x10
Overhead DB Pullovers w/ 30 lbs. - 3x10

Superset
Chin-Ups (Bi's emphasis) - 3x10
Standing DB Curls w/ 30 lbs. - 3x10

Superset
Seated BB Military Press w/ Oly Bar only - 3x10
Standing Lateral Raises - 25 lbs. - 3x10

Total Time: 40 Minutes

All in all, a solid workout. I'm starting to feel a little bit more like my old self in the gym, but I still have a ways to go before I really start cranking away again. I'm targeting next week to start running my split at some lighter weights.

I'm glad to see you are being patient, Jag. I had abdominal surgery about 10 years ago to remove a piece of my colon, and at the time, I was probably in the best shape of my life. I had to go about two months where the only thing I could do was walk briskly, which was killing me. When I got back to the lifting, I had to go slow, but things came back quickly, and I found I got to the point I had left at in about 2 months. And I felt great, except for the zipper I now sport on my stomach.

Great props also for not finding excuses to stay out of the gym as well.

Been feeling pretty good the last couple of days. I'm still getting a little tired in the afternoon's, but overall my energy levels have been better and my general attitude seems a bit better as well. I'm hesitant to say whether that single dose of Novarel I had on Tuesday is responsible because I don't know what the saturation point and timeframe is for the drug to start showing signs of working. Could just all be in my head. Wouldn't be the first time. :D I do my second pin of the stuff tonight. I'll be flying without a net or nurse supervision. Should be interesting. LOL!

Happened to weigh myself on the super-duper-uber accurate scale here at work yesterday. It's the same kind with the sliding weight scales that they use to weigh prize fighters and such. It clocked me at 195, which is only four pounds down from where I was at before my surgery. Not bad. I was prepared to dump 6-8 pounds, so I guess my undereating a bit for awhile due to the anesthesia didn't have as heavy an impact as it could have. Can't complain about that, as it doesn't appear I've lost much muscle mass and most of that appears to have been body fat.

Indeed, that's precisely what I have done, my friend. I hope the weekend treated you equally as well as it did me.

FM, got your PM. Thanks, and you've got mail yourself.

The Workout

So, I've had a full week (three days) of injections with the Novarel in my HCG therapy. I started feeling a little lighter in my mood after the second injection and, though it's difficult to describe, I can "feel" the stuff working. I've read it can take 2-3 weeks or even a little longer before the stuff really kicks in and you start truly feeling the REAL difference and your test levels start rising, but that the mild sense of good mood is not uncommon within the first 2-3 injections. Seems like all is on track on that front.

Got a couple of hours of yardio in yesterday before the sun got too high over the horizon and cracked 100. It was still damn hot, though. Summer is in full effect! The weeked overall has been a very nice one. Lady Jag and I have been able to spend some nice quality time together and get some R&R. It doesn't get any better than that. :)

Today was my first day back on my split after my sinus surgery, since it's been over three weeks since I had that done and was ready to start lifting again. It felt sooooo good to do a "REAL" workout! I kept the weight light so that I don't strain myself too badly just yet, and to give my strength levels a chance to catch up again as they're still lagging from the time off and the anesthesia. Still, I seem to be progressing nicely and the strength gets a little bit better every time. Here's how it went, today:

Preface: 30 second stretch from multiple angles after each segment/exercise followed by a tight flex/squeeze on the appropriate muscle group to really flush the blood in there. Kept rest times between 45-60 seconds.

Jump rope - High speed for 45 seconds, rest for 15 seconds. I repeat this over and over for five full minutes. It's a good light warmup and gets the blood pumping. I do this before every workout.

Ab's Superset
Crunches- 3x15
Roman Chairs - 3x15

Reverse Grip Hammer Style Incline DB Presses (http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showpost.php?p=8533921&postcount=63) - 55 lbs. (each DB) 3x8- Very nice burn to these, tonight. I guesstimated a good weight to lead off with on my first time doing them after the surgery.

Flat DB Bench - 75 lbs. (each DB) 3x8 - Nice pause at the bottom of most reps just for fun.

Incline DB Flies -55 lbs. (each DB) 3x8 - Nice stretch

Dips -Bodyweight + 45 lbs. -3x8- Kept a chest focus on these.

Chin-Ups - BW only - Not quite ready to add weight on the Grizzly Belt with these just yet.

Standing DB Curls (palms up) - 35 lbs. (each DB) - 3x8 - I'm really, really liking these lately.

Reverse Grip BB Curls - 70 lbs. - Nice pump to wrap up the workout.

PWO stretch and cool down/stretch and then PWO Supershake(tm). No cardio tonight.

Total lift time: 45 minutes.

A ways to go before I'm back at pre-surgery levels of strength and intensity, again, but all in due time. I'm just glad to be back on my split, finally! :)

Happy Sunday, folks!

Thanks, youngblood! It really feels good to be back in the swing of things and actually do some lifting again. The full body workouts just weren't satiating my cravings. I'm taking it slow and letting my strength come back in it's own good time.

Thanks, bro. I'm finding the dips somewhat challenging, but I think I'll be back up to two plates before I know it.

Nice workout, jag! Glad you're feeling better!

Thank you, Hibby. Every day is a bit better. My sinuses are staying nice and open more and more. The biggest difference I notice in it is when I'm sleeping. They used to clog right up the moment I laid down and that's not happening anymore. They're staying nice and open during the night and I'm sleeping better as a result.

Welcome back, Jag.

Why thank you, young lady! :)

Nicely done. It is good to see the intensity picking up.

Thanks, Ray! About now is when I'm patting myself on the back for going nice and slow and easing my way back into it. The intensity is ratcheting up slowly and steadily and I'm really enjoying it.

Thanks, Beast! I'm feeling good, these days! Hope all is well in your neck of the woods!

I've been incredibly busy at work the last week or two, so I apologize if I haven't been able to keep up with everyone's journals. A job can be a harsh mistress sometimes. :( I hope you're all doing great and racking up PB's all over the place. I'll try to find some time to check in on everyone's progress sometime this week.

The Workout

My strength levels are still somewhat low, but my energy levels have been through the roof the last several days. So has my attitude and drive, and I've been feeling more like a jackrabbit than a jaguarr the last few days as well. :D I think the Novarel is starting to work it's magic. :D

At any rate, tonight's workout felt great.

Ab's Superset - 3x10
Crunch - 3x15
Roman Chairs - 3x10

ATG Barbell Squats – W/U 1 - 135 x 8; 205 @ 3x8 -Really felt these today and had to work for it. Felt good to really push my legs a bit today.

Standing Calf Raises - 205 lbs. 3x10 - I do these in my Power-Rack kind of like a Smith machine without the Smith part. How's YOUR balance? :D

Leg Curls - 100 lbs. 3x8 - Up 5 lbs. Wanted to do SLDL's but figured I'd better not get too carried away with doing exercises that will rush blood to my head just yet, so I went with these. Nice burn and pump.

Leg Xtensions - 150 lbs. 3x8 - Nice finish to the leg workout.

DB Military Press – 45 lbs. on each DB -3x8 -Worked in a few slow negatives and even a couple of 1/2 reps.

BB Shrugs - 225 -3x6 - Alternated between a close and shoulder-width grip. 3 count at the top of each rep and held the bar at the bottom for 10 on each set.

Standing Side Lateral Raises - 35 lbs. -3x8 -- I'm enjoying going a bit heavier on these, lately, and liking the results.

Rear Delt Row - 35 lbs. 3x8 -- Hadn't done these in awhile and worked them back in to put some good focus on the rear delts. Me likey.

Stretched out real good and got my PWO Supershake(tm).

Total Lift Time - 40 minutes. (abs/warmup not included)

I was really happy with this workout. They just get better and better, which gives me hope that I'll be back up to my previous intensity and strength levels sooner rather than later.

Hope ya'll have a great Hump Day's Eve!

Thanks Mom, Batts, Gunn and JT1! I think it will be awhile before I'm knocking out PB's again, but it does feel good to be throwing a little bit of weight around, finally.

Holy CRAP have I been busy at work the last couple of weeks! I feel bad, because I just haven't had time to keep up with everyone's journals. I'll try to get caught up one of these days. The good news is that my energy levels continue to get better and better. This week, I've felt pretty exhilerated following my workouts whereas I used to feel just wiped out afterwards. Another thing I noticed just tonight is that my sweat has just a bit of a musk to it. Not a big deal to most people, but it's usually a really good indicator that my test is rising where I'm concerned, becasue usually my sweat doesn't really have much of an odor to it unless my testosterone levels are on the rise. So that was encouraging. So, stamina and energy are going up, strength is slowly coming back, and I have stinky sweat! All is well! :D At any rate, I hit the weights right after work tonight, and here's how it went:

Preface: 30 second stretch from multiple angles after each segment/exercise. Kept rest times between 45-60 seconds.

Jump rope - High speed for 45 seconds, rest for 15 seconds. I repeat this over and over for five full minutes. Good light warmup.

Ab's Superset
Swiss Ball Crunches w/25 lb. plate- 3x15
Weighted V-Ups w/25 lb. plate - 3x10

Finally worked a little bit of weight back into the mix on my ab work. Nice.

3x8 - Shoulder Width Grip Pullups - BW only
3x8 - Hammer Grip Sternum Pullups - BW only

The highest volume of pullups I've done since the surgery. This is one of the areas I've felt that my strength has really been down in my time off. Slowly coming back to me.

Rack Pull Deads - W/U - 135 3x8/Working Sets - 205 - 3x8 -- First time I've done deads since the surgery. I kept it nice and light tonight and went slow.

T-Bar Rows - 3x8 @ 150 - These felt really good tonight.

Reverse Grip Bench- 170 lbs. - 3x8- Picked a good weight to start back up on these. I was able to push myself a little bit without straining my sinuses.

Cross Bench DB Pullovers - 75 - 1x8 -I did one set of these and realized it was going to be too much pressure on my sinuses, so I switched to the standing DB Pullovers.

Standing DB Pullovers (both arms at same time) - 75 lbs. - These were easier on my sinuses. :)

Dips - 45 lbs. on Grizzly Belt - 3x8 - Nice to back into the weight on the dips.

PWO Supershake(tm) and stretched out after putting the weights away. No cardio following my workout, just yet. I'm looking to add some in next week.

Total Lift Time - 40 minutes

So, solid workout. Felt good. Hope ya'll had a great week. Tomorrow is finally friggin' Friday!!!!!!

My breathing is already better than it was before the surgery and he said it will improve another 30-40% before all is said and done, which wowed me. This was definitely a great idea.

The Workout

The strength is starting to come back! Whoo! Overall, I've been feeling really great the last week or so. The HCG is starting to kick in a bit more. Lady Jag swears she see's me starting to drop bodyfat and even add a bit more muscle. I'm not so sure of that, just yet, but we'll see. I do know my attitude, drive and...er....carnal desires have definitely improved a great deal and continue to do so. My breathing gets better every day as well, and I'm sleeping better than ever as well. Feels good to be on the upswing.

The workout today was awesome. I added weight to nearly everything today, which gives me some hope of getting back to my pre-surgery weights sooner rather than later. I'm still taking it easy and not doing anything to really strain the sinuses. I told the doc I was lifting again and he said the big thing to watch out for is rupturing the sinuses, but that I've healed so much and so fast that it looks like the chances of that even happening are really minimal. He said I obviously know my own body so just listen to what it's telling me with the workouts. Gotta love a doc like that. At any rate, here's how today went:

Preface: 30 second stretch from multiple angles after each segment/exercise followed by a tight flex/squeeze on the appropriate muscle group to really flush the blood in there. Kept rest times between 45-60 seconds.

Hanging Leg Raises - 3x10
Weighted Swiss Ball Crunches- 3x1o

Reverse Grip Hammer Style Incline DB Presses (http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showpost.php?p=8533921&postcount=63) - 60 lbs. (each DB) 3x8- Felt much stronger on these this week than last, despite adding another 5 lbs. back into the mix.

Flat DB Bench - 80 lbs. (each DB) 3x8 - Nice pause at the bottom of most reps just for fun. Up 5 lbs. from last week.

Incline DB Flies -55 lbs. (each DB) 3x8 - Nice stretch. Kept the weight the same as last week and concentrated on that deep stretch.

Dips -Bodyweight + 50 lbs. -3x8- Kept a chest focus on these. Added 5 lbs. I'll be back up to two wheels on these in no time! :)

Chin-Ups - BW only - Not quite ready to add weight on the Grizzly Belt with these just yet.

Standing DB Curls (palms up) - 35 lbs. (each DB) - 3x8 - I'm really, really liking these lately. The pump and burn I'm getting of them is really intense.

Reverse Grip BB Curls - 75 lbs. - Added 5 lbs. from last week. Nice pump to wrap up the workout.

PWO stretch and cool down/stretch and then PWO Supershake(tm) and then cranked out 12 minutes of cardio on the "epilieptical". Felt really great to finally get a little bit of cardio back into the mix, finally. First time I've really done any since the sinus surgery save for a couple of shorter walks.

Total lift time: 45 minutes. (not including warm-up/abs/cardio)

The Workout

Well, it's been cracking 105 or higher on a daily basis around here. Our poor A/C has been really struggling to keep up and it's still getting up to around 80 degrees in the house in the later afternoon. BUT, the damn thing has been running finally since the issues we've had with it this month have popped up. Until tonight, that is, which had me kicking myself that I let the A/C company reschedule their regular tune-up appointment for the thing, which they were due to do today, because they had so many emergency calls. It was running pretty well this morning and most of the afternoon, but as the heat in the house started increasing in the late afternoon, it wasn't doing to well. During my workout, I happened to put my bare foot over the register only to discover HOT air coming out of the damn thing! I went and checked on the unit and the fan was not running and there was a hellacious noise coming from it. I went and tripped the circuit breaker and it seemed to kick it back into action and but was only blowing lukewarm air. @#$@#()@(@(##!!!!!!!!! (You don't want to know what that really says). It did it again while I was writing this and the breaker reset didn't do a damn thing. Dead A/C. I have this sinking feeling I'm going to have to buy a new air conditioner unit.

At any rate, my workout went well, tonight. A little better, every workout!

Ab's Superset - 3x10
Swiss Ball Crunch w/25 lb. plate - 3x10
Weighted V-Ups w/25 lb. plate - 3x10

ATG Barbell Squats – W/U 1 - 135 x 8; 210 @ 3x8 -A little bit stronger than last week on these. Added another 5 lbs. to the mix.

Standing Calf Raises - 210 lbs. 3x10 - I do these in my Power-Rack kind of like a Smith machine without the Smith part. How's YOUR balance? :D Up another 5 lbs. from last week.

SLDL's - 170 lbs. - 3x8 - Nice stretch in the hammies on these. I'll be feeling them tomorrow.

DB Military Press – 45 lbs. on each DB -3x8 -Worked in a few slow negatives and even a couple of 1/2 reps.

BB Shrugs - 235 -3x8 - Alternated between a close and shoulder-width grip. 3 count at the top of each rep and held the bar at the bottom for 10 on each set. Added another 10 lbs. from last week.

Standing Side Lateral Raises - 35 lbs. -3x8 -- I'm enjoying going a bit heavier on these, lately, and liking the results.

Rear Delt Row - 35 lbs. 3x8 -- Kept these in the mix after last week, as I really like 'em.

Stretched out real good and got my PWO Supershake(tm).

Total Lift Time - 50 minutes. (abs/warmup not included)

Now off to see if I can't get the house cooled down a little bit. A daunting task since it's still 100 degrees outside. Have a good one, foiks.

Come on down! Then we'll come visit you after the first hurricane. We'll be bringing lots of birth control with us, too. :D

Great! We'll send your birth control over to my brother's house to play with his birth control while we go drink margaritas! LOL! :D

Well, the A/C decided to kick back on this evening, so the house is cooling back down. I guess the heat was finally just too much for it and it needed a break. Great...my A/C is a slacker. :( I'm going to get the tune-up guys out here tomorrow and see if it can be salvaged. If it can get me through another summer, I'd be happy, as we're giving thought to maybe looking for a different place next Spring. I'd hate to pump a few grand into a new air conditioner system and then move out.

At any rate, no matter where you are, or what you're doing, I hope you're staying cool and comfy.

Nighty night, folks.

Looks like the workout numbers are creeping back up, once again. Good job, Jag.
