He we go! Another year!

Jad an interesting start to the new year. Haven't been in the gym yet, but had a good time at a friend's house on new year's eve. At the party I scored a pair of Browns tickets. Took my eldest boy and went to the game and had a great time. ****, the Browns even won the game.
So, it will be gym time later tonight.
Have a great year.
And yes, Fitnessman is for real.

I had a great start to the year as well! Second cast of the 06 fishing season netted a scrappy seven pound Steelhead Trout :D Stayed out past dark and did some Smelt fishing and did real well.
Nuclear, those towers look awesome at night. Not a sign of ice on Erie, odd for this time of year.
No gym today as it is a holiday from work. Starting the new higher volume program tomorrow. Looking forward to it!

Great workout last night and another scheduled for today. Did back and biceps and the weight was the same as previous and reps were damn near the same. Intensity level was great as well. Legs later today.
Was kind of surprised that the gym wasn't that crowded last night. Should have had more resolutionaires in, but I guess it was still a holiday.
How about M. Clarett, talk about a talented life gone down the ****ter.

With the new program.
Combined flat bench with decline bench. Six total work sets 8-12 reps
Combined Incline fly with cable crossovers. Six work sets 8-12 reps.
12 total work sets for pecs.
Combined seated behind head DB ext with kneeling cable ext. 6 work sets.
In and out in 40 min. Good WO. Nothing great on poundage, but that's not the goal of this program.
Body weight 235. A pleasant number really after all the holidays.

Hi mom
Ever have one of those workouts were you end up looking silly in the gym afterward. That was me today.
Went heavy and hard on legs today. Ended up barely able to walk and with some cramps in the hammies. Ended up clinging to a couple of machine, half-bent over, trying to rub my legs. It wasn't a pretty site. But I bet I'm going to do some growing from it.
All cardio for tomorrow.

Hi Mom and Bigger foot!
Leg day today:
Combined squats and legs presses 6 sets  Last set was 465 for 12 on the squat ATG and all the plates I could on/on top of the leg press for 12.
Couldn't breathe after the six sets.
Managed to get some hammies and ab work in though.
Tough walk to truck :D

I live about 2 hours south of the Grand, but it is my second home! I launch my boat in the Grand at Rutherford's and every chance I get this time of year I am up there for Steelhead (wading or breakwall).
Very pretty river.
If the lake is rough I will hit the wall out of Fairport for Smallmouth.
I just love Lake Erie!

I just had some fun today.
I picked up about 640 pounds of old Pro Dumbbells to get me up to a complete set of 100 lb pairs:
http://homepage.mac.com/biggerfoot/.Pictures/produmbbells0101a.jpg
I also got some more plates, a couple of extra handles and one old 40 pound round head:
http://homepage.mac.com/biggerfoot/.Pictures/produmbbells0104b.jpg
I also got a new, very nice curl bar.
It is not an Ivanko bar and I am not sure what it is but it does have Ivanko collars.
It is nice and thick...1.25 inches.
Here it is compared to my standard Super Curl Bar:

Chest dlet and tris. Best out of the lot were some good weighted dips. Really burnt the tris at the end of the workout.

Well, I was mighty busy doing other things this weekend and precluded hitting the computer very much. Don't get the option to cruise the internet all day at work like Fitty does.
Did get to go to a hockey game Friday night. Minor league but always fun.
Workouts the past couple of days have been real good. Number keep going up but the wait time in the gym is also going up as the new members get oriented. I'll provide better detail of events during the week.

Joed, That is the base of a typical GVT program. Most people go with about 65% of their 1 rep max (+/-5 to10%)

Not a huge fan of GVT.
The weight I was using is what I normally would to 10 reps for. Four min rest between sets is a lot.
I throw one of these in for squats about every 7th or 8th week.

Chi_town turned me on to these. I was out of room on my DB bar and needed more weight to stimulate the muscle.
I stand inside the Smith rack and do them like a 1 arm DB row. You can really pile on the weight. This movements a keeper.

Didn't get around to posting yesterday, weather was too damn nice.
Got to take the bike out for a nice ride. Something about 50 degrees in January that force someone to get on the Harley.
Worked legs hard the other day. Was doing a bunch of squats, but not a 10 X 10. I worked things a bit different. I did three heavy set on squat and holds. Basically staying down in the hole position for 2-3 seconds before exploding back up. Really good pump and something I hadn't done in a while that I thought would be a good change.
Got chest and delt later today and some time off over the weekend.
Hell, I even went out this morning for a 20 minute jog - first time I've done that since summer.

Really good workout today. Chest work on the Hammer Strength machines. Nice and smooth with plenty of poundage. Delt work felt good with a bunch of different DB laterals today and finished with tris, primarily some rev grip benches. Definitely an exercise that will be in the rotation for a long time.
Have a great weekend.

Plenty of power in the gym today with not many people there. Must have been the bowling on ESPN or something.
Back and biceps, mainly machine work. Back was universal machine with pulldowns and cable rows on the universal. Still one of the best and most useful machines out there. Add in a ouple of sets of chins and back hypers and I was done. Biceps was with the Z curl bar and alt DB.
Pretty simple workout with the basic tools in any gym. Who needs to get fancy all the time.

Combined swiss ball flies with cable crossovers 3 sets.

Leg day today. Was feeling very well this morning. Squats with pauses were in order today. Hit the last set for 495 with a three count at the bottom (6 reps). While I felt very good about this...I attempted to get some hams in and couldn't do it.

At the gym they are great, for home it would have to be a extraordinary deal. They are a unique piece but good for one exercise only. Lot of money for something only done once a week. I would go with a multipurpose type machine first if I had limited space.

Was in and out of the gym rather quickly today as other pressing family need took precedence.
Bicep workout was straight bar curls. Did 3 sets with different hand positions each time. Closer grip was harder than a wider grip.
Back was mainly deadlifts. Pushing the floor. Back feels good and tight right now in my comfy chair.

Nother real good workout today. SHould of had the day off but I don't think I'll be in the gym all weekend. Hit legs using the leg press. Aint got room for many more plates on the machine, but may just really push up the reps and see how fast a heart rate I can get.
Finished the workout off with some overhead squats. Talk about a "CORE" exercise. This will work your entire body. Slow and easy is the key.

Good workout tonight. Another one of the "please let me make it to my car" workouts. They call it - Leg Day
The main exercises were:
ATG squats (with a pause) supersetted with leg extensions, 3 sets
Seated ham curls, 3 sets (finally doing the whole rack)
Front squats, 1 set
Adductors, 2 sets
Leg press calf raises, 3 sets
One hour and I was spent. May go light next time (in my dreams).

Today was going to be back/bi day, but my lats are still tender from the SLDL's the other...So I did Shoulders and traps.
Seated DB presses 4 sets
Rear DB raises 4 sets
Shrugs 6 sets last set 585 held for a 10 count
Finshed out with a few sets of front DB raises.
Wanted to get some sort of cables in..But the gym was packed with youngens.

Easy day in the gym, giving my shoulder a bit of a break. Chest/delt/tri day and went light. Used more machines today than normal. Hammer, nautilus and cables. Wasn't intentional but just the way things lined up and the way I felt. Reps were a bit higher than normal.
Back and biceps for tomorrow then a weekend off, but the weekend will include going to a motorcycle show.

Wife was at doctors office with disabled child and her home care nurse..Wife fell out of chair while talking to doctor. 3 min Grandmal seizure. Squad took her to ER. ER ran tests said everything was fine.
Came home, nurse said they are crazy..No such thing as one grandmal...Two hours later had the squad at the house. They admitted wife.. Tests being done tomorrow.
We are now figuring what caused her to fall the other day was a seizure,,,,,,

I actually worked on a project that was going to "try" to contain the Zebra Mussel infestation. That is until they figured that they are doing something good to the ecosystem. The down side is the clogging of the water intakes of the nuclear facilities and municipal water supplys. The up side is the water is 1000% better than it was before, a win, win situation if you ask me. I'm hoping they show up here in the Chesapeake in short order. I say make reefs for them to attach to. We have no structure in the upper bay to hold fish. This and pollution during the summer is a big problem, no structure = no fish.
I'm all about a trip to somewhere I haven't been before. The only contact with The Great Lakes is a dive on the Edmund Fitzgerald in the early 90's.
Hell I could fill up some serious bandwidth with fish stories. M and her battle with a 100 lb blach drum and a thunderstorm bearing down on us at the same time, her bringing a small trout to the edge of the boat and about a 50 lb cobia making off with her trout. Or my favorite, the 8 year old kid I helped break the North Carolina state record for croaker. I get more out of watching others catch the fish. I think when I've finally had enough of the rat race, you'll find me running a charter out of The Keys somewhere. This Indian ain't built for the cold weather!! :D

Starting to sound like a bunch of fish stories to me. I love the lake though.
Here's the FYI stuff. The cooling towers are 580' tall. They are based 620' above sea level. One makes clouds, one doesn't (we only have one reactor). Zebra mussels are a nuisance, but not much of a problem. We treat our enire fresh water system anually. And kill off any that get into the plant. Biggest problem is discharging the water back to the lake time consuming to neutralize the biocide used and dechlorinate at the same time.

Icy is a relative term. Water is 35 right now and it aint going to freeze over this year. This is the first year in a couple of years that it hasn't froozen over.
Erie is unique in that the water will turn over (invert). This is a phenomenon that does cause us some trouble because the temperature shifts rapidly. Good for fishing I hear.

the DL pain does have something to do with position. The weight does travel in a different path for each. Examine the form. Rack pulls may be the alternative.

Mark and Jag, I am going to add them after the Arnold...I am heading in the strongman direction in April. I have a chance to train with a local pro...What the heck I like to move heavy things...Should be fun.
Mark, I know what you mean on the time thing. Most days I am in and out of the gym in an hour...When lifting a power routine it's a good 1 1/2-2 hours...Just can't see three though.
BTW friend a 20 repper with 300 plus is nothing to sneeze at! (ATG I assume)...Now do me a favor and try 20 reps with a three sec pause at the bottom...Kay;)

Good workout this afternoon. Back and biceps. Was deadlifting today and pumped out a few more reps today than last time. Back didn't seem as sore as it had in the past few weeks, I'll have to see how the recovery will go. Lower back jas been pretty stiff after deadift days recently. Biceps were pretty standard with straight curls and hammer curls.

Ouch! Hope that heals up quick Nuclear.
Had a good Back day...So so on the Biceps. The heavy squats have been putting a lot of stress on the Bicep tendons..So took it easy on the Bi's...Hammered Back though with some Heavy 1 arm DB rows (170-12-15 reps). Weighed WG pull ups and some 1 arm low cable pulls.
Did get a nice comment today, fella said he had a lot of respect for my training partner and I..When I asked why he said "You guys are big and very strong...But you never make a big deal of it...You two just come in, stay to yourselves and move some of the biggest weights I have seen around here. No grunting or screaming or strutin around"
That was nice of him to say :)

Actually - the leg wasn't that bad today. Did some light squats and the adductor didn't feel that bad. SHould be normal on leg day on Monday.
Today's workout was so-so. Didn't move as much weigh on inclines as I thought I would. Delt work was good and tri's were average. Overall, could have been better, but could have been worse.
Have a great weekend.

Back/Biceps today. Bicep tendons are a little ouchy from the heavy squats.
Weighted WG pull ups, 1 arm db rows (gonna have to stop doing these as I no longer can add enough weight to my DB bar...Hit last set 200lbs for an insane amount of reps). Weighted V bar chins, palms facing pull ups (no weight).
Biceps were fried..Did a couple sets of hammers with 70lb db's and called it a day.

Back and biceps here as well. Totally different workout than the Fitty one. Underhand lat pulldowns and cable rows for me. Threw in a couple of light sets of chinups and hyperextensions as well. Biceps was pretty straightforward with Z-bar curls and alt DB curls.. Overall a 8.5 on a 10 scale.

Back to some good leg work today. The downshift the previous session helped the recovery process. Didn't do anything to aggrevate the adductor today and was hitting my maxes on the hack machine. I started doing these about 12 weeks ago and they are really beginning to pay off for me now. I've always cringed when I see them in your journal, so that's alot of cringing as you seem to love 'em (now I know why). As DC says, "take that weight your so proud of doing for 10 and do it for 20". So my new goal in life is to squat 405 deep for 20. I'm thinking I'm only about two years away!!:D I'm pretty damn close to hitting 315 for 20, which will be a huge milestone in and of itself. Man, as I sit here right now, my chest is twiching like a mofo. Today you really showed me something(other than you can handle 135lbs straight to the rib cage)
These past few months, I thought i've really upped my intensity, and I was working hard, and I guess that to an extent, I was. But today was something totally different.
The kind of raw energy that you work out with is insane. If that's what it takes to grow and become a monster like you and Carmine, then you can bet your ass you'll be seeing me in there everyday, giving absolutely everything I have.
If you don't mind, I may go through your workout log and what not, seeing what you do, and tweaking my workouts to be more like yours.
By the way, I gave absolutely everything I had into that chest workout that I looked like a zombie. My nursing professor asked me if I had been drinking the night before, and some girl next to me asked if there was a death in my family! lol! I probably had a 1,000 yard stare goin on!
