Hello all! First day back at the gym this week after my mini vacation. Chest and Tri's...Kept everything on the light (ish) side.
Here's a pic of my trip :D
You know, you could smile once in a while. Just think of Pete and the guy at the bar in Barley's!! :D Looks like you had a good trip. M and I head out to damage some flounder the 15th.

Rob, did you see that burn? It hurt to smile! fished 30 hours in three days!
Ya know I was talking with my training partner yesterday about summers. He and I really are not at our best. Between kids, lawns, longer days, over time, fishing, grilling, beer ect.
Summers seem just like a maintain period for me. I train hardest oct-april.

It's the same here. Farming is taking a hell of a big bite out of my time. With the shop at the farm now, I can kill 2 birds with one stone. I still haven't found the catfish pen, I canoed 5 miles down river and nada!! They're going to have to condemn the bridge down from the farm, most of the support earth is gone!!

It's therapy for me to fitty, but last week really tore up my margins for this batch of tilapia and cats. I'll be damned lucky to break even on these ponds. We also lost 100-150 corn plants and I lost 40 baccy plants, not good. The wash was unfriggin' real last week, I had to pump the ponds down 4 times just to allow the water that was coming to not overflow the ponds. I've also had to add all kinds of chems to raise the ph back up from the rainwater, tilapia are a brackish water fish, so they like hard, salty water.

I'll be adding Jerusalem Artichokes to the farm next spring. I just finished reading about them, interesting tuber.
I found the catfish pen this afternoon. Dad and I hopped in the canoe and M chased us almost to the bay. We found the trap 13 miles from the farm, busted open and all to hell!! :mad:Oh well, we cn start a new pond tomorrow, I'll order another 10,000 fry and start again.

The main drawback of this root is that over half of the carbohydrate it contains is in the form of inulin and this cannot be absorbed by the body. It does mean that you can eat quite a lot of it without putting on weight, but it does also mean that many people will find the inulin fermenting in their gut causing quite a bit of wind! :D
John Goodyer, one of England's pioneer planters of the early 1600's wrote,
"But in my judgement, which way soever they be drest and eaten they stir up and cause a filthie loathesome stinking winde with the bodie, thereby causing the belly to bee much pained and tormented, and are a meat more fit for swine, than men."

Well, the vacation is almost rapped up. Had a great day and felling rather tipsy after multiple brews this evening, last piss up with the family. I'll be wondering what the scale will be saying when I get back - should be interesting. The rest of me is feeling pretty good, nice being off for a while. Lots of time to heal.
Sounds like everyone else had a rather interesting fortnight while away. I'll provide some insight on things when I get back. I will say that Paris was an interesting place to visit. But more on that later. World Cup final should be a good match. I'd give the French a slight advantage.

Back home and back to work. Prolly workout later tonight. I'll try to get a couple of photos later as well.
Got on the scale this morning at 239. Pretty much same weight I left at. Think I maintained weight okay, just have to refill the muscles and drop a little bit of fat gained over the past 2 weeks.
I will say this, MRPs are your best friend on vacation. I tooka box with me and used one daily. only way to get enough protein on vacation. And in Europe, it's even more important with smaller sizes on every meal.
Water is also a big issue. Dehydration is a European thing. Couldn't find many water fountains and had to pay through the nose for bottled water. Beer wasn't cheap either.
More later.

OK then. Busy as usual but I got back into normal mode this week. Had 2 good workouts this week where the intensity was what it always should be. The elbow is still not 100% but I can get some pressing work in, just have to pre-exhaust with cable stuff. Back and legs are normal and returning to size again.
Decided on not competing this year. No need to put the body and family through the additional stress. Also adding a bit more volume to the training I'm undergoing.
Finally, going to see Y&T tonight, a band I liked since high school and never got to see play live.

Had a good workout yesterday. Elbow is near 95% and have been doing some presses and tricep work finally. Been quite some time for those.
We did survive the rain the the other night. I definitely know how Greenie feels now. Nobody around here expected the amount of rain or flooding we saw the other day. I left early enough and was able to get to work on Friday. My wife got land-locked and couldn't get to work by the time she had to go in. They were saying that we got 9.7" of rain over a 24-hour period. It was pretty freaky. Here's a couple of pictures of my back yard. Water depth was a good 2.5 feet and ended up a couple of inches from my basement windows. I got lucky, some of my neighbors didn't.

Yeah nuc, I was watching the weather channel to see if it was gonna be 100 here again & they showed some film from Ashtabula. That's a lot of water in one downpour.

It felt like I was living in Lake Erie the other day. It's only 2 miles from the house.
And it was pretty nasty there as well. Nobody was expecting this much rainfall. A lot of folks are going to be hurting because very few have flood insurance in the region. Erie will never flood and the rivers had never seen flow like the other day. The were on the magnitude of 10X higher than previous records. We were lucky, it could have been worse. Looks like the death toll will only by 1. That is truly amazing.

Good workout this morning. Setting up to go heavy in the coming weeks. Hit legs and was squating for the first time a months. Stopped at a set of 385 ATG because I wanted to walk and have some mobility in my back for the next couple of days. Did a bunch of supplementary work as well for hammies and calfs. Next week will be the serious start going full out with a little more cardio (anything better than nothing is more) and a better eye on the diet.

Well, time to get back on subject, almost.
Be hitting the gym in an hour or so after just getting up. Definitely feeling the leg wrkout from the other day. Got chest and delts on tap for today.
Was out on the motorcycle the other day and cruising through the back roads arounfd the area looking at some of the weather damage while trying to cool down when I start running into cops everywhere. They had a couple of roads closed that I was going to ride on and seemed to be everywhere. Had no clue as to way they would be in the "odd" places. When I got home they had pictures of George W. arriving in town to look at the flood damage. Kind of bizarre.
Yeah I think so too; odd he would drive around. During Katrina he was in the 'copter waving to people standing on the roofs of their half-submerged cars.
NuclearArms
08-04-2006, 03:56 AM
The difference from here to Katrina is that the water had subsided and drained into the lake. IN NO, being lower than sea level, the water had nowhere to go.
Goo workout yesterday. Chest and delt. Sleep and theme park on the schedule for today.

Didn't make it to the gym yesterday, had to wait til this morning. Probably wasn't the best compromise either.
Did back this morning, and like legs, need more alive time before a back session. My lower back needs to be warmed up and active a lot more than it had in the past. I definitely felt rather stiff doing rows and some rack pulls. I'll have to ensure I'm either active for about 5 hours before a back workout or continue to work it late in the day. I still love to get up early and get moving in the morning, just not all the physical stuff anymore.

Went for a 20 repper with 300 and felt my lungs on fire by #10. Got up to 18 before my heart felt like it was racing to fast. That was enough for me. Been making a habit of Sunday morning workouts lately. Had another good one today. Chest delt with a little bit of tri work. I'm feeling like the tricep is no longer an issue and went full bore today with the intensity. Weight wasn't at pre-injury level but that was expected with the injury layoff. I'm thinking I should be close by the end of the month. Was doing incline presses for the first time in a while and like I said, was able to hit it with full intensity. Just another good sign of more things to come.

Good back/bi workout today. Numbers up to pre-layoff levels. Skin was feeling tight due to a real good pump. Time to be serious again in the gym. I think Fitty had it right a while ago, summer is too busy to be serious with the weight room, fall and winter are better times.

Got to the gym this afternoon for a back session. from previous experience I knew I couldn't have an effectove workout in th emorning without ample warmup time for my back, particularly on deadlift day. Last working set of 495, pushing myself just enough for a hard set. Finished with a little bit of pullup and bicep work. Was able to move rapidly for exercise to exercise with very few people in the gym. Probably be even less as football season kicks into gear.

Great leg workout today. Heavy presses and ham curls. The ham curls are single leg while kneeling on the resting one. Was about to start my leg #2 and got a hellacious cramp in the first leg. The blue and gold was what made me think of Leeds, though the sponsorship on the front was throwing me off. I'm a big fan of rugby and soccer, watch as many games as I can. And I''m the same with US/Canadian soccer, I don't follow it at all, the standard is still mediocre, IMO.

I work out here at the University...They only go up to 100lbs on the DB's. For 1 arm DB rows I bring my own DB bar, so I can stack the 25's on it. I can go up to 200lbs on that. It won't work for DB presses though..The 25's cut the ROM down to much.
When I asked when they opened about heavier db's...They said "We really don't want your type of lifter here" WTF?????
Finding another gym is not a great option..I Work Out and am at work in 2 min...So the trade off is worth it I suppose.

Kicked some more butt tonight in the gym, mainly my own. Elbow is almost back to old and the numbers keep going up for my chest and delt workouts. Fitty will be like this by the end of the month as his elbow gets back to normal. It is a great thing, just wish it didn't take so long.
I'll be doing another supplement trial for SAN coming up shortly. It's for their new vaso dialator/NO product. Supposed to provide an "all-day" pump. I never had the best of luck with NO products. Always felt a bit of a "pump" in the first 15 minutes of a workout and then it fizzled out. Hopefully this will not. I'll let you guys know when I get the stuff and start the trial.

Grandpa squating 500. LOL
You'll hit 600 in no time buddy.
I'd even bet if you don't blow out your knees, that you'll hit 650 by March.
I have been keeping my squats as more of my warmup for legs.....so I haven't went over 500lbs in a while. Maybe I'll try and increase my PB (which is 575lbs) sometime late next month or early November, before my cut starts ?

What's a little grease among friends.
Back to the training. Deadlift day and everything went as scheduled. Nothing special but all the lifts were good and I left the gym with a shirt soaked in sweat. Very muggy in there today. Also did some pullups and some curls to round things off. Good overall workout.
Bought a new scale for the house the other day. Old one went inop a couple of months ago. Anyway, hopped on it this morning and weighed in at............248. Kind of surprised with the weight but I guess I'm still a growing old man. I'll try for some pictures over the weekend.

Back and Biceps this morning.
Warmed up with some light pulldowns. Then did some semi heavy 1 arm DB rows (170) 6 sets. Three sets of low cable lat pulls.
3 sets DB spiders, 3 sets standing DB hammers.
One more day till Walleye Camp :D

Day off from training yesterday, rest was needed. Got leg presses on tap for later this morning.
Don't know if anyone saw the sports news yesterday but they want to have that SD Charger player that got shot undergo a blood test for steroids. WTF? Really hard to believe this ****. Someome thinks its 'roid rage'. Guess they forget that the guy had previous run-ins with the law and FIVE previous DUIs. Stupid ****.

Shoulders and Traps today.
Forearms are rather sore from this weeks training (a good thing) so holding the 100lb Db's for seated db presses was interesting to say the least. Managed a couple decent work sets.
Did some heavy trap work.
Some cable rear delt work.
School is in session, weather is cooling, training has really picked up :D
I even got another "You are that guy they talk about in class" comment today :)

Hello and thank you to all the visitors. Have a great weekend.
Great end of week workout. Leg presses and I am now maxed out on the press machine. Going to have to switch machines. Oh well. Beyond that ham and calf exercises were also at PBs. Definietely getting some photos taken this weekend. Lot of progress to show.
The North American championship show is in Cleveland this weekend. I may try to make it down there tomorrow to see if there is anything of an expo. Not too worried about the show. I'll wait a couple of weeks as there is another show in town that I support. Hell, Bob Chick is even guest posing at it.
Enjoy it folks, Im off to work now.

It's a line fishing line with a lot of hooks on it to catch lots of fish, usually catfish.

Diane, a trotline is a very old school way of fishing. 150' of 300lb line, one end tied to a tree and the length run out into a lake/river where the fish might be. Off the main line you may run up 50 baited hooks. The end must be weight with a large flaot attached with name/addy of the angler. Very nice way to spend a night.
Chest and Triceps todays. Elbow coming along. Managed a few sets with 315 in the flat BP, still keeping it light. Threw in some pauses. Combined DB pullover with swiss ball flies for three sets.
Four sets of reverse grip Smith presses.
One set of weighted dips.
Spent.
Strength should be up to par in 2-3 weeks. I have doubled my protein intake.

1. Take boat out before dark and set line.
2. Come back to camp, make a fire, cook steaks and taters over fire.
3. set by fire and tell lies.
4. Check line about midnight.
5. Clean fish while telling more fishing lies.
6. Go to bed.
7. Get up at day break and check line, wrap up gear.

Most Friday or Saturday nights. Most of the time we will just stay out in the boat and do some jiggin for Walleye till Midnight, then come back in and check the line(s). If we do that we will will have Walleye in butter and garlic cooked over the open fire at 12-1am. Rough life I know :)
The Steelhead are starting to run, so I will be spending more time up around Nucleararms neck of the woods the next few weeks.
Matter of fact, taking a comp day one day this week just to have some Steelhead fun :D

Hey fitty !
Someone in supps said you'd be the guy to ask about this.
What do you think of ZMA ?
Will it really raise my T levels ?
Will I really sleep better ?
Is it only for guys coming off of a pro-hormone cycle ?
I figured I'd ask someone like you vs. the kids in supps.
Thanks in advance.

ZMA did nothing for me really. You have to be lacking in Zinc or Mag to see any affect IMO.
A good diet does more then ZMA.

Didn't you and Chi heatedly debate this at one time ?
I swear I remember some old ZMA thread on a search I did last week.
It makes sense that diet should be 1st and foremost before any supps.
And it just amazes me the way people spend so much on supps when what they need to do is change or watch what the hell they are eating.
let me see if I can find that old thread and resurrect it. I'd much rather have a ZMA discusssion in there vs. hijacking your thread.
Sorry !

Squats today!!! :D :D Back to 500lb land!!! Wahoooooooo!!! Felt good and the reps snapped up :D
There is a younger fella at the gym who is a MMA fighter. One of the hardest trainers I have seen. 160lbs of badass. On my last set w/500 (Big Ragoo spotting me) he comes up and starts yelling COME ON OLD MAN COME ON!!!!! I rack the weights and smile, he slaps me on the back and says "when I am your age I hope to be 1/4 as strong as you"

OLD MAN, OLD MAN!!
That one is a double edged sword. You can't deny your physical age, mental is another thing.
Took an easy workout today and will again tomorrow. Merely a bunch of sets and reps at low intensity for back and biceps. Felt that a minibreak was called for after a real good six weeks. I got the VASOFLOW from SAN and will be starting a new product trial and I wanted to be on a fresh training cycle instead of at the end. There are 4 of us trying the product (3 others are college kids) so I get to represent the older crowd again. At some point I'll probably throw a link to the log that I'll do separate from here.

Exercise forum regular here. Good to know that's how you feel... especially at your level of experience. I use whey first thing in the morning and post-workout... the rest of the time it's whole food, a multi, and casein at bedtime for slow release.

Thanks all I won't hit my stride till November. Then 600's in the squats and 400's in the BP will be no issue. Same thing every year for me, summers are just aweful between work, family, outdoors etc.
I hope to hit 550 in the flat BP (doable) and 700 in the squat (iffy, but doable) by the Arnold..We will see.
I did forget supplement wise, the kind folks at universal give me all the liver tabs I want. I still swear by them. Just such a part of my every day diet, I forgot.
Aqua, welcome! Nuclear is a great BBer and has done some local comps. I prefer to see how strong I can get. We are both from Ohio and makes a nice contrast for a thread...I think this is our third or fourth year and we are both getting better, despite minor setbacks here and there :)

I have similar goals as yourself... I'm not a bodybuilder per se, I just want to get as big and strong as naturally possible, while not letting my bodyfat get too far out of hand :D, but I care nothing about having abs that show year round. I just want to lift heavy weights. I also enjoy the outdoors, but I'm not much of a fisherman... I enjoy hunting though when I have time.
